I went here with a group of friends, and we ordered a bunch of dishes to share. Everything is pretty good, and it's a great spot for groups to come, enjoy some beer, and dig into shareable plates. Honey Glazed Popcorn Chicken - $14 Loved the fried basil with the chicken. Well-fried and would order again. Beef Noodle Soup - $18 Pretty good, but not ideal for sharing in a group. Would recommend ordering solo rather than for the table. Dry Beef Noodles - $19 Absolutely delicious. The meat melted into the noodles. Definitely recommend. Scallion Pancake Beef Wrap - $16 Great appetizer to share with the table. A classic you can't go wrong with. Fly's Head - $17 A great addition to any noodle or rice dish. Very flavorful and mixes well with carbs.

The food was decent, reasonably priced, and consistently satisfying. While it may not have been the most upscale Japanese restaurant, it was a comfortable spot for a casual meal. The atmosphere was pleasant, and the staff were always friendly and welcoming.

Came for brunch and sat outside. The meal was pretty good but nothing really was memorable. The fried chicken was the standout bite of the meal, as it had really good seasoning and crunch.

Honestly still dreaming about that popcorn chicken...how do they get it SO crunchy, yet tender & juicy & so insanely flavorful? I'd buy that seasoning and put it on literally everything. The Scallion Beef Pancake Wrap & Dry Beef Noodles were also incredible. Each dish had a unique flavor, while complementing one another and bringing the Taiwanese culture to life, in a fun, night markety restaurant.

When I'm craving Taiwanese food in NYC, 886 is always on the list. It's not about hypey IG dishes--it's about comfort and homegrown flavors. Food: 5/5 On this visit, I was thrilled to see bitter melon stir-fry as a seasonal special. To me, that's peak Taiwanese--it's simple, authentic, and exactly what I want. The sesame noodles were another highlight: straightforward, hearty, and perfectly satisfying without trying too hard. I also loved their winter melon tea, which hit all the nostalgic notes for me, while my husband stuck with water but was just as content. Our highest damage is usually around 80(after tip). Vibes: 4/5 886 feels like a Taiwanese diner at heart. It's not fancy, and that's the charm--you sit on simple chairs, the space is buzzing, and you're there to eat and enjoy. It's casual, cozy, and very much a place for people who want real Taiwanese flavors, not just the trendy stuff. Service: 4/5 Friendly and efficient. Things move quickly here, which matches the diner vibe. If you're looking for authentic Taiwanese food in NYC without the pretension, 886 is the spot. Whether it's seasonal stir-fries, classic noodles, or a refreshing tea, it always delivers the flavors I crave.

Solid Taiwanese food, although not quite as good as I remembered. The food was a bit bland, but overall flavor was still good. The fried rice and pea shoots were my favorite, and the beef scallion pancake was good as well. The noodles in the beef noodle soup were very good, but again I did think the broth was a bit bland. We were served quickly and no wait at Saturday ~12:30.

Food: popcorn chicken and TFC were my faves. They both had that perfect combination of crispy, flavorful, and yet tender chicken inside. Noodles in the beef noodle soup were also good. Fried rice was a bit bland for my taste. Popcorn chicken sauce and the TFCs furikake fries were amazing. Service: ok. They seemed to have forgotten our drinks, but food came out extremely fast (I guess the perk of a limited menu), and they were attentive. Ambiance: it was loud with a lot of young folks drinking a lot in a small space. I wasn't a huge fan of the cheap plastic stools they had us sit on. There was also only one bathroom, although it was clean.

This is a go-to dinner or late night grub spot for us and it's been so consistent in taste, service, and vibes since they opened years ago! We always get the lo ba beng which hits the spot with the savory pork belly on rice with a soft boiled egg and pickled greens. We also got the tomato egg (comfort food iykyk) and the black pepper beef which was bombbbb. Service was attentive and they even got us water for our pup which was very nice of them!

This place was not bad, but a bit underwhelming. We came with a group of 7 and had a reservation. The space was pretty small and the seating was on stools which wasn't the most comfortable, but we managed. We got a bunch of items to share. Their dishes are more Taiwanese fusion style, so don't expect anything really authentic. We got the popcorn chicken, cabbage salad, beef pancake roll, beef noodle soup, lo ba beng, and bean curd pea shoot stir fry. I couldn't eat the lu rou fan since it had peanuts, and most of our group didn't really like that one. The rest was decent though, and I did enjoy the veggie dishes and beef pancake roll a lot. Overall, I wouldn't say this is a good spot to catch up since it is quite loud and seating isn't very comfy. If you need a spot that is a little different near St Mark's though it may be worth a try.

Loved the vibe here! Very busy on a Friday night but luckily there was no wait for a party of 3. Service was friendly but very slow. 3.7/5 Whiskey Winter Melon - very whiskey forward, wish the Oolong tea flavor came out a bit more. 4/5 Popcorn Chicken -- crisp, well seasoned, loved the dipping sauce! Wish the pieces were a bit smaller for a more ideal coating ratio. 3.7/5 Crispy Silken Tofu -- super crisp and crusty bits of tofu, sauce leaned a bit too citrusy for me, wish the radish served with it was pickled. Also a small shout out to the DJ for the night -- music taste was great, from kpop to chinese OSTs to radio hits! Eric Sze was also sat at the table next to mine, and it was really nice to see a restaurant owner enjoying the food and ambiance of his own place!

    Bad Idea Challenge.

My friend and I came by here for dinner in the area and were able to get seated right away without reservations. This spot is a young and fun vibe mixed with some modern Taiwanese specialties. First of all, the Bad Idea Challenge ($27) immediately grabbed our attention. The goblet consists of sake, red wine, soju, and coke, which tasted quite similar to a sangria. For the challenge, two people have 6 seconds to finish the entire thing for 2 free sake bombs. We couldn't help but take on the challenge. Even though we didn't finish it on time, the drink was still tasty but light on the alcohol. As for the food, we ordered the Lo Ba Beng ($15), Peashoots with Tofuskin ($18), and Scallion Pancake Beef Wrap ($16). The lo ba beng is delicious from the savory braised minced pork over rice with a perfectly soft-boiled egg and mustard greens. The peashoots were simple, but refreshing when you want some greens. While the first two dishes were smaller, the beef wraps came with 7 good-sized pieces stuffed with beef and veggies. Great spot to get some dinner and drinks to start off a night out. Definitely more of a younger crowd here. Oh, and yes --it does come with fire like the photo!

As a Taiwanese American who goes back to Taiwan every few years, the food here is pretty good. The beef noodle soup is similar to what I've had in Taiwan. The popcorn chicken is also not bad, the honey sauce makes it a bit on the sweeter end, but still good. Service was pretty fast. Inside, it's a more modern vibe with some neon lights and whatnot.

Located within the historic Chelsea Market building--a former Nabisco factory where Oreo cookies were first produced--the restaurant feels theatrical in the best possible way. The soaring ceilings, dramatic lighting, and energetic atmosphere create a sense of occasion from the moment you walk in. It feels less like simply going out to dinner and more like stepping into a beautifully staged production. I started with a Botanist Gin Martini with a twist, which paired wonderfully with the meal. The surprise star of the evening was the new Cucumber Tiger Salad. The balance of flavors was exceptional: bright acidity, a pleasant touch of heat, and just enough mint to make each bite feel fresh and exciting. Every so often the mint would come through and suddenly all the flavors would click together in a way that made me immediately want another bite. This is a dish I would happily order again. Next came the Edamame Dumplings. They were delicate and comforting, especially when enjoyed with the accompanying broth. The broth adds depth and richness that elevates the entire dish. My only suggestion would be the slightest touch more salt, perhaps even a finishing sprinkle of black volcanic salt for both flavor and presentation. I also found myself wishing there were a bit more of that delicious broth because it contributes so much to the overall experience. For my entrée, I ordered the Glazed Alaskan Black Cod, and it absolutely lived up to its reputation. The fish was rich, buttery, and perfectly prepared. What impressed me most was how thoughtfully the accompaniments were composed. The pickled cucumbers brought brightness, acidity, and crunch, while the black bean and eggplant relish delivered deep savory notes and unexpected complexity. I'm generally not an eggplant fan, but this relish was outstanding. The cucumbers and relish sit at opposite ends of the flavor spectrum, yet both somehow make the cod even better. Looking back, I think a glass of Sauvignon Blanc alongside the cod would have been the perfect pairing. I finished with the Miso Caramel Milk Bar, which was spectacular. Decadent, sweet, salty, and touched with just enough umami to keep every bite interesting. The chocolate crumble underneath added a wonderful crunch that contrasted beautifully with the creamy ice cream and luscious caramel sauce. Every component worked together perfectly, creating a dessert that was both indulgent and sophisticated. From start to finish, the meal felt polished, thoughtful, and memorable. Thank you!

I really enjoyed my drink (toasted coconut reconstruction, $26) because it was pretty mild in alcohol and basically came with a dessert

We tried the mushroom wontons, curry and eggplant. Mushroom wontons were my favorite there, followed by the eggplant and then the curry.

Our favorites of the night were the salt and pepper chicken with scallion biscuits (jam was amazing, and the chicken was moist and fried perfectly), the walnut shrimp (super juicy and well-cooked, not too over-sauced), the pot stickers, and the cold sesame noodles which had great chew and a lovely, creamy sauce. The crudo was pretty small and nothing to write home about, and the eggplant and tofu curry were a bit under-seasoned for me. The bowls of rice we got to eat with the side dishes were also pretty mushy, as if the rice hadn't been properly rinsed before it was cooked, which was disappointing at $3 a bowl. Room for improvement! Still definitely a spot I'll recommend to friends looking for interesting takes on Chinese food! Service was attentive and smooth throughout the night, and we got some good suggestions on serving sizes for the group. Left stuffed and satisfied!

Ambiance (5/5): The establishment is extremely ornate and decorated in theme from top to bottom. I…read morelove how much detail and elegance they put to each room (not to mention the 16-foot buddha statue in the main dining room!) Be aware that the lighting is dim and the background noise is loud! The front bar room is so loud that you have to shout with your guest. Our party of 6 was seated in a tiny booth which we had to ask for an additional chair to accommodate us. Service (5/5): We were able to get someone's attention to order and we were refilled on water often. The food was organized by appetizers and entrees that arrive all at the same time. The wait between ordering and food felt reasonable to short. The waiter also specified that certain dishes quantity (i.e. potstickers) could be increased to accommodate our party size for an extra cost. Food (5/5): TLDR; every dish was honestly SO good; I was surprised and will rank the items by 'must get' to skippable: Short Rib Bao Bun (3 pc): The short rib was so tender and flavorful. The bao bun was soft. The sauce was thick and worked well with the short rib. Pork Potstickers (5 pc): I preferred this over the lobster and scallion dumplings. The exterior skin is pan-fried with a nice glaze, hint of truffle. The bite was umami from the creaminess of the Parmigiano Reggiano. Chicken Satay (3 pc): The 3 pieces of chicken were relatively large, very tender, seasoned well. They were well complemented with the peanut sauce that is worth keeping to dip into other things! Don't sleep on the side of spicy cucumber salad, which was so well balanced in tartness and flavor. Pad Thai: This is one of the best Pad Thai I've ever had! The flavors are bursting, with a balance of sweetness, nuttiness from the peanuts, and tartness from a squeeze of lime. Peking Duck for 2: This dish is definitely more than enough for our party of 6 and appeared to be a half serving of the whole duck. The duck pieces are pre-cut for us to self-assemble into the wraps (not the usual bao bun but like thin tortilla wraps). I think I counted 8 wraps? Triple Pork Fried Rice: The rice has a lot of depth and generous chunks of pork. The rice is thicker than regular jasmine with a more chew which I liked. Dragon Tail Spare Ribs: Although this has a nice flavor, handling with your fingers makes them super sticky for your whole dining experience. The restaurant should give out wet towelettes if this dish is ordered!! Meat was tender and easy to chomp off the bone. Tuna Tartare: A small quarter-sized tartare dollop is served atop a small cube bread. The fish was fresh, presentation was beautiful. Was hoping for more tartare for the price point but it was very good. Overall, the dish was not filling so would skip if the party is hungry. Lobster and Scallop Dumplings: Great flavor with reasonable chunks of meat inside. Just preferred the potstickers a lot more! Bok Choy: Pieces were chopped in half and cooked with a nice crunch. Topped with something that gave it more texture. The garlicy taste was forward (in a good way). Rainbow Roll: While it was fresh and the individual pieces were large in portion, this felt like any other sushi roll. Skip this! Side of White Rice is $9?! That's theft and is skippable The amount of food ordered was probably a little more than what we needed but glad we ordered as many as we did.

I especially loved how it was placed elevated above the floor -- it gave such a calming and respectful feeling. Even with the hustle and bustle, the place still felt relaxing and serene. As for the food, it was decent. We ordered a few different chicken dishes since we don't eat pork or fish, so our options were a bit limited. One thing that did make me feel uncomfortable was the hallway near the downstairs bathroom where a picture of a Buddhist monk in saffron robes was displayed. Personally, I felt it was not the most respectful placement. Overall, I still enjoyed the experience and would love to come back again to see the beautiful giant Buddha.
