Note: This is a less detailed review than normal, as we ordered a ton of food from the AYCE menu, as can be seen from the photos Anyway, I've been back to this tasty Chinese place twice since my first review, with the second one being a very similar meal. The most recent time, I was here for their dim sum brunch, which is either $36 for AYCE plus $2 for tea, or they price each thing individually. It was a bit annoying that the tea was not included, but at least both the Oolong and Chrysanthemum teas were good quality and readily filled. Service in general was pretty fast and frequently checked on our large semi- private table to see if we needed anything else to order or more tea. The dim sum selection is a bit smaller than many of the traditional dim sum spots, but the overall quality was excellent, with a couple of definite highlights and some more unique dishes such as dumplings with pickled shrimp, crawfish, or Taizhou rice along with Ningbo wontons. In general, I would say that the wrappers were properly thin and everything was filled generously. The aforementioned Pickled Pepper Shrimp Dumplings were one of the highlights. The slightly spicy and sour pickles made it taste very light and paired nicely with the plump shrimp. In terms of other shrimp dim sum, their version of Har Gow/Crystal Shrimp Dumplings included a little bit of sweet crab for an extra touch. It was also tasty. I also liked the Ningbo wontons, filled with a variety of ingredients including minced pork, dried shrimp, yard long beans, pickled vegetables, bamboo shoots, and others. It had a wonderful mix of textures with some interesting crunchy notes. Another unique option mentioned is their Crawfish Dumplings, which are very noticeable compared to the other dumplings due to their bright red color. I appreciated the spiciness but found these a tad fishy with a thicker wrapper than most, but others loved these and ordered more. For more standard dumplings, their Xiao Long Bao/XLB were pretty good, and they had a tasty version of Sticky Rice Pork Siu Mai. The Baked Pork Buns were good as they were not too sticky sweet. Finally, there was a decent version of Pork Dumplings in Chili Oil. Non-dumpling highlights included their excellent turnip cakes along with steamed spare ribs, chicken feet, and a particularly tasty version of steamed beef tripe with satay sauce. I would skip the Beef Short Ribs With Black Pepper, which had good flavor but was way too chewy. I know someone else ordered the spring rolls, but I don't remember trying them. They also apparently now have a Ningbo speciality called Shi Bing Tong, but I don't remember ordering it. Someone else got their simple and tasty porridge/congee, only available traditionally with pork and century eggs, and enjoyed it. I tried a bit, and it was indeed good. Desserts included a tasty Crispy Durian Pastry, alright Sesame Balls, a good Pineapple Bun/Bolo Bao, and Custard Buns, which everyone loved, but they had a cuttlefish ink shine, so I couldn't try them. This is a fantastic, reasonably priced AYCE Dim Sum. Would recommend it if they still offer this deal. read more

Another wonderful visit to Yong Chuan! A full order of their excellently executed Peking duck presented beautifully. The kicker? Their wonderful duck is 1/2 price on Wednesday!!! We also ordered the crispy beef which is finely shredded and glazed and served in a nest fashion. We also enjoyed the delicious walnut prawns and the stir fried pea shoots with xo sauce which was delightful. The service is friendly, casual but not wholly professional (more familiarity with the menu and cocktail menu would help a lot!) The surroundings are contemporary and simple. I'd recommend some gliders/pads for the chairs because they make a loud unpleasant sound when pushed. Both of these issues are easily corrected. At this point, I've visited this spot several times. There is nothing bad to say about this restaurant. The peking duck is a must have! This is one of the best if not the best peking duck restaurant I've had in nyc. The other dishes such as char siu, sweet & sour fish, eels were all great. Personally, I wasn't a fan of their jelly fish dish because the pieces were too chunky and no tentacle pieces. The back area's atmosphere was very different from the front area. Place is organized and their seats are well situated. The staff from the front to server and even the bartender they are all awesome! Really friendly and made the experience relaxing. They have accommodated us even though we are 10mins past our reservation. This place also was also booked during the NYE. So we are glad that we are able to secure our table. The crispy branzino was better than the duck. 10/10 would recommend. It tasted like a sweet and sour sauce. That one we finished all of it and there was barely any bones. Made reservations for their all you can eat dim sum brunch for my mom's birthday on a Saturday. Surprisingly, we probably didn't need the reservation since the place was empty at noon. It's a deceivingly large and more upscale restaurant compared to your typical dim sum place. We were seated immediately and given menus. There is no cart service here. Order each item from the waitress and staff will bring the dim sum items out. Everything we ordered came extremely quickly, and was served hot at fresh. There are even some items not typically available at other dim sum places such as their spicy crayfish dumplings. My favorites were the beef ribs in black pepper sauce as well as the chicken feet. My mom really wanted to get AYCE dim sum for Mother's Day but unfortunately the place we used to go to in Flushing closed down. But during our search for another spot that offers AYCE dim sum we stumbled upon Yong Chuan. We booked a table for 5 at 11AM on a Saturday. As it turns out we were the only ones in the restaurant for a good while. In their defense the weather was terrible out and people really started to roll in closer to noon. The way ordering works is you just tell your server what you want and then they bring it out to you. No fussing with checking off boxes on a flimsy paper. For simplicity's sake just go by the alphanumeric code next to what you want. The menu is decently sized. What surprised me most was how FAST the service is. I initially ordered a ton of dishes expecting them to trickle out slowly but we got most of the things we ordered in less than 5 minutes. And everything was nice and HOT. I won't bother going through everything, but I will hit on the standouts for me. I really liked the pork dumplings in chili oil and spicy crawfish dumplings. They aren't really things you see offered at your typical dim sum spot. I also really liked their black pepper beef. It was cooked well and super flavorful. Some of the dishes were misses; not terrible, but things I would not want to order again. I suppose that's to be expected. Another nitpick I have is that they charge for tea. I don't think I've ever had dim sum where tea wasn't included. That said, the service was fantastic. The place is spacious and clean. I thought this place didn't live up to the hype. It was very average with the exception of the fish blossom, but even that was a little on the small side. The restaurant had music pumping which made it feel more like a lounge or bar than a restaurant which made little sense. Last night was such a delightful meal with a group of 10 people. Service was spectacular. When we arrived around 6:15 pm the restaurant wasn't too packed but it quickly filled up as the night progress. The restaurant is dimly lit and has a warm intimate aroura. I especially the wood wall decor. It had a modern asian ascent. As for dinner, every dish was wonderful. We started out with the fried sliced beef and it was fried and seasoned perfectly. I also enjoyed their fried rice. Not sure if they added bits of fried noodle, but the crunch to each bit was delightful. Of course the star that night was the peking duck and I have to say, it was GOOD!!!! I had plenty of pekin duck at other high end restaurants and this place definitely is a good contender. The duck was tender, moist, not oily and taste wonderful. Overall, I had a great experience here and would definitely recommend this place to anyone that wants to enjoy delicious chinese cuisine in a relaxing atmosphere. The AYCE dimsum brunch is at a very reasonable price $29/pp + Tax and tip. they have the popular dishes that you usually get from other dim sum places. the selection might be a bit limited compares to other dim sum restaurants but their quality are great. pieces are big and flavorful. my favorite is the crawfish dumplings. best thing is that you can try everything and re-order as many as. you want. Yong Chuan is so good that I'm now back for a second visit seven days after my first. Their AYCE Dim Sum brunch is fantastic with relatively robust and creative menu. It doesn't have as many choices as some other places, however, I'd argue both the quality and portions are superior. My favorites include the Crawfish Dumplings, Shiumai, Tripe. The spring rolls were also quite excellent. For the Pineapple Pork Buns, taste is great but there is a lot of air inside - filling is a bit lite, but this is by design as usually one stuffed one will fill me up (looking at the bakers over at Mei Lai Wah). The service was excellent and attentive. Setting is decidedly upscale compared to the rest of Chinatown, so this is a great place to bring friends/family from out of town or gather for special occasions. Second visit....and doesn't disappoint. Great experience from start to finish. A little pro-tip: follow them on Instagram to see their daily specials. That's how I found the branzino with pine nuts in a sweet and sour sauce. It was my personal favorite dish. The real star of the show was the Peking duck. We got the full duck with the thin pancakes, hoisin sauce, julienned cucumbers, scallions, and jalapeños. It was a hands-down family favorite. The meal kept coming with a light and flavorful braised gourd soup, followed by these amazing cumin lamb chops. They had a mild but fantastic kick. Also had a refreshing pickled cucumber salad to cleanse the palate, and our waiter was kind enough to recommend the homestyle rice cake soup, a classic Ningbo dish that's not on the menu, so you have to ask for it. For dessert, ordered the black sesame mochi. It's fresh and made to order. Took about ten minutes but worth the wait. It came out warm, soft and dusted with soybean powder. Third visit: I enjoyed YongChuan so much that I came back the next day by myself to try their weekend dim sum brunch. They have an all-you-can-eat option and they were very accommodating to me as a solo diner. They brought me a platter that let me try one of each dumpling like siu mai, crystal shrimp, crawfish, and veggie dumplings which was perfect because I like to try a little bit of everything. One of the best places to get peking duck in NYC. They offer a half size option for couples (perfect!) and do a great version of the famous Hong Kong style Cha Siu (pork). We also tried the Ma La Prawns and Crystal shrimp and crab dumplings. Both were tasty but not a stand out. Next time we'll probably try something different just for the variety. I only tried the Tai Zhou Rice dumplings (Pork, bamboo shoots, tofu, and scallion filling) from their dim sum menu here and it was just soso. Wrapper of the skin was too thick. Tasted like tang yuan. They used the same vinegar dipping sauce here as most places do for Xiao Long Bao. This dimsum definitely needed the dipping sauce because the dim sum on it's own was just mid. I only did take out but from what I can see, it was a dim lit restaurant at night and very nicely decorated and looks like an elevated Chinese cuisine place. I believe this restaurant is relatively new, but we had reservation that was easy to get. We were sat as soon as we got in. The food was good, not the best Peking Duck I have ever had, but when we went, a whole Peking Duck was $69. The menu says different compared to the website. The website says $69 but the menu says $96 or $98, and then the server told us that they were doing a special where the whole Duck was $69. I think there should be more consistency between the menu and website. Also the whole Duck does not include the experience where the carve it in front you nor the soup. If that is really important to you I would recommend going somewhere else where that cost is included. Here, the carving of the Duck in front of you is an added cost. The Duck was also very oily, Duck is inherently oily but I have had Peking Duck where it was not as strong. The beans were delicious and the Duck was also delicious but not the absolute best Duck I have had. The restaurant is very nice and modern on the inside. Liked the ambiance. We were a large group and had a nice room to ourselves, with a large round table, a lazy Susan and our own waitress. A great spot for a big group in NYC we could all talk and actually hear each other. But that's not the reason to go come here. Food was outstanding. Great spicy wantons, soup and fried dumplings as well as pickled cucumbers. Peeking duck was a big winner and mopo tofu was the real deal with lots of Szechuan peppers. We had a few vegetarians and it was no problem having lots of delicious dishes including dumplings, noodles and perfect veggies. This place is a winner.
