A much needed end of the week girls meet-up. Reservations were made and are STRONGLY suggested. A CC is required and you must agree to terms and conditions upon making said reservations. One of those terms is that there is a $25/pp fee for late cancelations or no shows. **Given the rules, I think it would be nice if THEP informs everyone when they book reservations that there is a great likelihood that you will be seated at a communal table.** Upon arrival we were seat when 3 out of the 4 arrived. Yes, we were seated at the communal table, which was off putting initially because we were looking for a more private experience and opportunity to catch up. However, we powered through and made the best of it. Service started off shaky and rushed initially, with incorrect drink orders presented. However once we all settled in things improved. The food was good and the atmosphere was lovely. A few entrée dishes were unavailable and required a little flexibility in the night's taste palate. Overall Thep was enjoyable and I would like to return now that I know what to expect. We walked in without a reservation for dinner and were able to grab seats at the bar. The bartender lady and overall service from the team was friendly and I appreciated the attention to detail with my food allergies. We ordered a few different plates among which I found the steak was my favorite being cooked well and the rice being a good compliment. I like a great Thai meal every now and then, and this place really delivers, especially when it comes to the pad thai. It is super delicious and flavorful, and the portion is generous enough to easily split into multiple servings. The drinks are fun and whimsical - not the strongest or most alcohol-forward, but very pretty and tasty. There is a large indoor dining area and an outdoor seating area as well, and overall the service is usually pretty good. I keep going back, which says something. read more

I hate to say it, but this experience was subpar for me and my girlfriend, unfortunately. We made a reservation and most of us were there within the timing, but we were sat at a communal table, which was a huge disappointment. One of the reasons we picked this spot was because the reviews noted that is was a quiet spot and a good place to catch up. That was not the case. It was loud and we were a group of four people that were seated on the end of a long wooden table with about two other parties on the other end. The place itself was pretty and had a great aesthetic. I wish I could say the food made up for it, but unfortunately, I was not wow by what we had. One of their signature dishes, the duck dry pot, they did not have. I made a pivot and saw that they had crab fried rice, one of my all-time favorite dishes, and was super excited when I saw it came in a coconut shell. And although the dish was beautiful, it lacked a little something. It wasn't bad, it was just not as flavorful as others I've had. While looking for Thai food on the Upper East Side, I had THEP Thai saved on my list and decided to stop by based on the strong reviews. I arrived right around opening, so service was excellent throughout the meal and the staff was attentive and welcoming. The space itself is very pleasant, with hanging plants and warm, relaxing lighting that gives the restaurant a nice ambiance. Unfortunately, the food didn't quite hit the mark for me, especially having been in Thailand fairly recently. Krapow Puff - 3/5: I'm usually a big fan of Thai curry puffs. This version was good, but I personally prefer a more traditional preparation. Pad Kee Mao - 4/5: Solid flavor overall, though the dish was a bit heavy on the onions for my taste. Green Curry - 3.5/5: The curry leaned more orange in color, which left me unsure if it was meant to be a classic green curry or the restaurant's own interpretation. I heard so many good things before coming to Thep, and it lived up to the hype. Firstly, it's noticeably clean, which always makes me feel better about dining out when I can tell a restaurant is serious about cleanliness. The service was excellent--each staff member was attentive and polite. I had a rose Thai tea that was extremely refreshing on a hot day, perfectly sweet, and rosey. Our appetizers were the spring rolls and papaya salad, both vegetarian but still very flavorful and hearty. I had the red curry with chicken, which was phenomenal. Thep has an amazing menu, I will be going back to try more! The interior felt very trendy and modern, and the service was friendly. I enjoyed that they have many creative cocktail options. I had the mango sticky rice and appreciated the fresh mango flavor in the drink. For an appetizer, I got the chive dumpling massaman, and for the main dish, I had the khao soi. The dumplings were good, however I wish the curry was more flavorful and had a kick to it. In contrast, the curry in the khao soi was incredible! I went to THEP with my partner for Valentine's Day and let me just say it was amazing! We made a reservation maybe a week before and there were still a few options for times. The restaurant itself is very nice and we both really enjoyed our dishes. I ordered the Khao Soi ($24), and he ordered the Cashew King ($22). I had never tried my dish before and it was so flavorful and delicious. It had a lovely depth of curry flavor and the crunchy noodles and red onion were great complements. The food also came out less than 5 minutes after we ordered it, which was insanely quick! Let me also shout out that they have Shirley temples on their drink menu! I love that so much because they're my favorite, and they wouldn't have to be ordered off menu! We will definitely be coming back, the food was really great. read more

First stop driving into the city at the recommendation of our host. Quiet space with a wonderful interior that allows 1-14 to dine easily. Eclectic decor and a great chef. Visually, this is a work of art. The color contrast between the curry sauce and the rice wrappers is incredibly appealing. It was also a unique appetizer that I have not seen commonly; i wish there was more filling in each dumpling and that the dumplings were easier to pick up as the wide circular shape made them fall apart easily. But overall this was a great start to the meal and I would recommend ordering to share between 2-4 people. - massaman curry (8/10): choice of protein, sweet potato, avocado, onions, and peanuts in a spicy and sweet massaman curry base served with rice. The curry sauce is the same one from the appetizer which I was glad to get more of. I liked the sweet potato for creaminess and peanut for saltiness. I could have done without the avocado as I felt it did nit go well simmering in the warm broth. This is the only vegan curry option. - pad kee mao (9/10): stir fried wide rice noodles with choice of protein, bell pepper, and onion in a spicy chili sauce. This was exactly what I would expect out of a pad kee mao. When eaten hot, the noodles were coated in just enough sauce fir flavor but not so much that they felt oily. I would have liked it even more if it defaulted to coming with more vegetables but it pairs well with a curry for a complete meal. WOULD I GO BACK? Yes! Nice Thai spot in the UES, open on the later side. We were seated quickly without a reservation, although we came later in the evening. The cashew king was flavorful, although the rice portion was too small to match the dish and we found ourselves wanting more. The pad Thai was cooked well, one of our top ones in nyc so far! The texture was good, it was saucy and sticky, flavorful and a generous shrimp portion. The bok choy was meant to come with oyster sauce but the sauce was lacking, couldn't really taste it. We all ordered a variety of dishes (pad Thai, pad see ew, pineapple fried rice, and Khao Pad Mun Nua) and Everyone's plates were left clean. The meat in the Khao Pad Mun Nua was so flavorful and tender. The dishes are a bit on the pricey side, but the flavors are great and the portions are solid. They have a promo offering free thai iced tea if you leave a 5/5 review with 2-3 sentences WITH THE WAITERS NAME. I eat here often with friends and coworkers, so I decided to bring my family here. The woman in the front who wore a silk navy button down shirt had a disgusting attitude from the moment we sat down to the moment we left. I will break down the evening for you below. I did not realize they were closed for lunch 4-5 (usually come after 5) so we arrived around 4:30 and asked if we could just wait outside until they open. The woman who I assume to be the manager or owner in the front said sure and emphasized no service until 5. We said it was fine & ask if it was ok to wait/sit in the outdoor seating area (where we also planned to remain after 5pm) and she agreed. Throughout us sitting there, she came outside twice within 30 minutes. One time to pick up a fork on the floor with a baby dropped & we quickly apologized for (it didn't happen) & remind us that they are not serving until 5pm then AGAIN at 4:50 to remind us that they are not serving. She did this both times with a nasty attitude and even rolled her eyes at the baby with us while picking up the fork.Not once did we ask for anything before 5pm so I am unsure where the annoyance comes from. Again, if it was a problem to seat us - she could've said no! We live nearby - it would've been no issue. Instead our entire experience was shaped by this rude tone. Then again, she comes at 5pm on the dot and tells us "you have to stay seating here. there is no space inside." in a very NASTY tone almost as if we weren't allowed inside? It was also empty inside until we left. Nonetheless I made sure to tell her we were planning on staying outdoors anyway. When our server came, they were very abrupt and rude then slowly got nicer as they communicated with me. However they were rushing to clear the table as we were eating. It was uncomfortable and really rude to have your plate taken mid bite. This was by far the worst experience i've experienced at THEP and I have been a loyal customer for over 7 years. I am SO disappointed because the only difference between today and every other time was that I came with my baby brother. I'm not sure if it was an issue with the woman in the front or what - but this is a restaurant advertised for all ages so why would children be an issue? it is completely unacceptable. I can tell the staff were bothered or uncomfortable by the presence of my muslim american family. I get it, babies are a little extra but hold it together! You were a baby once too! My only other visit was wayyyyy back in 2018 when they just opened; they've definitely gotten so much busier (and cramped) since! Food was better than I had remembered. My massaman curry with bone-in chicken (no actual bones though) was really good! The sweet potato and avocado garnishes were unexpected but thoroughly enjoyed. Loved finding a new Thai spot to add to my rotation of Thai restaurants! I had the shrimp spicy udon noodles. The spice level was really good (though if you don't tolerate spice it may be a tad too spicy for you), the udon was the perfect texture, the shrimp was really tender and flavorful. I also had their seasonal watermelon mocktail, it was super refreshing and perfect for this summer heat. The service was really quick, staff knew the menu items well and were able to provide great recommendations. The interior was nicely decorated as well, had an upscale mini tropical feel. walked in on saturday early afternoon and the restaurant was already quite full. the tables are rather small and the lighting is slightly too dim to see much, but the food was extremely tasty. the tables were very close to one another, so be prepared to hear the conversations of other guests! extremely welcoming staff, but was hard to get their attention. my favorite dishes here were absolutely the hoi jor and pad see ew. the hoi jor was paired extremely well with a sweet sauce, and the pieces themselves were pretty large. I was filling up just after the app! we also got the branzino, which I would have preferred broiled/grilled rather than fried, and the massaman curry. I've never had massaman w avocado slices, but my boyfriend loved the pairing. both my boyfriends and I's stomach hurt pretty bad after this dinner, but was tasty regardless.
