Whenever I am craving some authentic Szechuan food, I come here, and to THIS location only. They have two menus...one catered to more American Chinese food like Beef and Broccoli, General Tso's chicken, etc. and a Chinese menu where you will find the authentic dishes. Be aware that Szechauan style cooking is usually very HOT with whole chilies and peppercorns, and quite oily. That's just how it is. If you want a traditional appetizer, order the ox tongue and tripe. It is served cold and thinly sliced, but super flavorful. Don't worry if your tongue starts to feel a bit numb after eating a few bites. That is the peppercorns working...it is completely safe and normal. It will return to normal after you stop eating it for a few minutes. So good and unique. read more

I spend about $50 a week here on delivery and tip their driver $10 each visit. After today I will no longer do so! Rude, rude, rude on the phone. I would say 888 Bistro at Clear Lake is the best Chinese restaurant outside of Chinatown in Houston area. Great Fine Dining atmosphere, excellent food. My favorite dishes were filet fish with chef special pickle cabbage and chicken with eggplants. I like their Kung Bao chicken, string beans with chicken, stir fry shredded potato and Mapo tofu. My friend loves their smoke ducks and has to have one duck a week from 888 Bistro. We love to have a small gathering or have a party at 888 Bistro in their party room. I probably won't be ordering from here again. I ordered online and received a call confirming the order and the delivery time to be 45-1 which I was fine with. When the hour passed I called again and spoke with the person to see what was taking so long. She said the driver would be there in a few moments. Yum! Cold Tsing Tao on tap. Very good steamed pork dumplings served with nice chili sauce and shredded ginger (on request). The very best Szechuan chicken I have had in 25+ years and the Szechuan shrimp is excellent! Our waitress, Tiffany, was spot on, helpful with suggestions and quick to clear plates or refill beers. The prices are really good too! Only $5.95 for 8 dumplings. Total bill for 2 people with 4 beers and an appetizer was $40 before tip.The only thing from keeping me from a 5 start rating is the dumplings were the tiniest bit doughy. We will be back! Looks like most of the negative reviews are regarding their take-out service. My review is about the dine-in experience. This restaurant is excellent. The menu is authentic Chinese. The only reason "Sweet & Sour Pork" & "General Tso's Chicken" are on the menu is to provide the local hillbillies with their expected dishes. Go to the abomination that is PF Chang's if you want that kind of cr*p. I would be embarrassed to compare that swill with the cuisine at 888 Bistro. We come here for years, and we have pleasant experiences usually, for the last few times, things get much different. Employés became very rude ( most of them are new stuff), they do not know any thing about service policy or how to respect their customers. We went today for lunch, the hostess was very unprofessional, and she wanted to complain with us about the size of the table, and she wanted to fit 8 people on a table for 6. They forgot a plate from our order, and we did not get a refill for our drinks. I needed to use the bathroom, but it was very unclean, so I waited after lunch to go back, but it was still dirty. It seems like for an hour and a half no one checked on the restrooms. No toilet papers there ( in both restrooms) and papers everywhere on the floors. read more

Gonna give 888 4 stars. Never done take out here , so your on your own. Did leave a phone here once for about 10 mins and got it back. Thank you. Food ranges from athentic-ish Chinese to your typical fare. I like the non English menu , even though some of the dishes cross over to both menus...but with different numbers ? Anyway, they have good cooks, so the food can be very good. Staff can be a little tricky some nites , but never too bad. You will probably like this. read more

This is a relatively small restaurant, tastefully decorated. Went on a Saturday night and there was already a crowd at 6PM. The small parking lot was full but there was ample parking in back if needed. This place can can get crowded fast. There is a full bar (w/Western bartender). I ordered Hot and Sour Soup, Wontons in Hot Sesame Oil, Szechuan Style Jumbo Shrimp. The soup was good, even if it had a bit too much black pepper. White pepper would have given more dimension to it. It was full of meat, tofu, white mushrooms, black fungus, bamboo shoots, scallion, egg, and the dark broth. The wontons (about 8 or 9) were spicy and plump and I thought them very tasty. The dish lived up to the spicy description. They could have been served at a warmer temperature. Their interior was just slightly warm and the sauce provided only modest additional warmth. The shrimp dish (8 to 10) was served on top of assorted stir-fried vegetables (broccoli, asparagus, bell pepper, scallions, pea pods, water chestnuts) and topped with a cilantro and lime wedge garnish. The shrimp were crisp, batter-fried large shrimp. They were plump and flavorful, not overcooked, with a mild level of spicy heat. I received good service from Daniel. I would recommend this restaurant for very acceptable Chinese cuisine. read more

I didn't even get a chance to try the food here, my horrible experience started with the ordering over the phone, I was told it was $10 minimum order, so they lady rang me up for a broccoli beef dinner order for $11.50, then charged me an EXTRA $1.50 for FRIED RICE after asking me what kind of rice I wanted, so I assumed fried rice came with it, didn't even clarify it was an additional charge. I waited over an HOUR for my food to arrive to see my bill at almost $14 for ONE MEAL, I could have gone to the BUFFET for that price. I placed an order for ten$ and gave the tip of 2$ for driver. they did not deliver for one hour. after one hour i called and they were saying that they wont deliver if the amount is less than 10$ Why did they allow me to make a transaction if they cant deliver. Normally, we frequent the location on 646 as it is closer to our home, but have easily been won over by this one. It was moderately lit, with nice big booths, and gorgeous décor.
