I hopped on my favorite lunch-navigator app that we all know and love (that's right, I'm talkin' about YELP!) typed in the broad search statement "food" and proceeded to pick the first spot that caught my eye. This time, it was 8th & B Poke! Based on the area and appearance, this looks to be a newer spot in an up-and-coming area! I popped into the shop and was kindly greeted by staff. It was my first time, so I'd asked one of the staff members on what the flow is and how I should go about my order. He gave me the rundown, the options, and suggestions (which were all supremely appreciated!) I ended up ordering a medium sized bowl with the miso garlic salmon, guava tuna, and an add-on of the portuguese sausage. Within a handful of minutes, my made-to-order bowl was ready to go and I was ready to grub! I was dazzled at how beautifully my bowl was composed! The bright colors, the clean & meticulous plating, and the medley of flavors was a feast for my eyes. And for my belly? An INSANELY fresh and delicious meal! Oh my gosh was the salmon and the tuna absolutely DELICIOUS!!! I appreciated that the rice and included fixins complimented the fish and wasn't too over-the-top. It was balanced and just right! Very small restaurant with some seating inside and three big standing tables outside. They only let 3 people in at a time to order so the wait outside was extremely long. I got the medium, which comes with two poke choices. I got the spicy garlic tuna and limu salmon, and it came with crab salad, seaweed, and some sort of spicy fish side. I've heard a lot about 8th & B Poke, so I was excited to try this poke shop out. It's primary street parking. There was already a line when I got to the shop, but the wait wasn't too bad. So expect a line when you get to the shop, since it's popular! It was about a 20 minute wait. The shop is small inside, and they only allow 3 customers inside the shop. There's seating inside and outdoor tables. I took my food to go though, and ate it in the car. I did wish they had a menu available for outside, since it was a bit difficult to read the vestaboard menu inside the store. Service was alright. They greeted me and my boyfriend, but they didn't give us any recommendations. I ordered a medium bowl, with guava ahi tuna, garlic ahi tuna, and shrimp tempura. I believe the bowls come with imitation crab, spicy tuna, and seaweed salad already. I got my food, and was ready to grub! I took my first bite, and was disappointed. For me personally, the sauce on the poke felt really off-balanced, like the poke was swimming in the sauce. The ahi tuna tasted gummy and was tough to chew. I didn't enjoy the furikake on the rice, since it was too salty for the rice. The shrimp tempura wasn't that crispy. To be honest, I enjoyed the side dishes the best, like the imitation crab, spicy tuna, and seaweed salad. My boyfriend got salmon, and he ate his food since he was hungry. However, he ate half of his bowl, and I ate 25% off my bowl. I think I came with too high expectations since everyone was saying this place had amazing poke. I arrived at 10:45 am and there was a short line before it opened at 11 am. The line moves slowly since they can accommodate only three customers inside. Portions are reasonable for the price, and overall it's a great spot when you're craving poke. The biggest downside is the line... there's almost always one, and it doesn't always move quickly. Since they only allow about 3 customers inside at a time, I really think it would help if they posted the menu outside so people could decide what they want before getting to the counter instead of standing there thinking while the line gets longer and longer. I've been wanting to try this place for the longest time. I used to live in San Diego, CA. I'm so glad I finally got that chance. I follow them on Instagram, so I know they run out of their goods. Parking is usually on the street, thankfully we found a spot but it was not close. We didn't mind the walk. We showed up around 11am and waited about 30 minutes before we could enter the store. Staff and owner were friendly and helped us decide what to order. We were able to order a plate to go. Went outside where they had these tables that you can stand and eat at. Food was delicious! Still the best poke I've ever had. I've been raving about this place to friends since my last visit in 2024 and it absolutely held up. The sauces are what set it apart. Everything is so well balanced and they've got flavors I've never seen on poke anywhere else, like guava. But even the standards are better here. Their shoyu and furikake beat every other spot I've been to, and those are everywhere. The rice is cooked right too. Grab a pack of seaweed while you're at it and make little handrolls with the poke. FINALLY! I made it to 8th and poke. Happy to announce my husband and I found our new favorite spot! The poke was fresh and the flavors were delicious. We ordered and picked up food very quickly and the cashier was friendly and very helpful with my questions on the flavors (ones I never heard of) service was fast. The place is tiny but they have seating bar style inside and a bunch of standing tables to eat outside. They were all taken when we arrived so it fills up quick! My favorite flavor was the shoyu ahi. I came here for lunch and had this place on my list for a while. I do like that this spot has tempura and Portugese sausage among other things to add on to poke. I've never seen that before. I split the 3 scoop plate. All of their flavors are very fresh. I think we did a shoyu ahi, salmon ahi, and one other one that came with imitation krab. The staff here was also super friendly. The lines do get long. I think I waited here for about half an hour so it was not too bad. Parking-wise, there was some free street parking a block or so down so not too bad at all. My friend and I visited on Monday around noon. Guava Ahi: Super interesting, and the first time I've had something like this! It was not too sweet like I feared, but you could still definitely taste the Ahi and the guava flavor. Soy Crisp Salmon: This was my favorite! The soy crisp added both a nice flavor and texture to the salmon. Spicy Mayo Salmon: Very flavorful, but not so spicy that it masked the salmon flavor! The gentlemen were welcoming and thanked me for coming in, i felt very at home. Coming in felt like how it is back in Hawaii. A tiny hole in the wall with minimal space. One group of customers at a time , but the line goes quick. I picked up two pieces of my poke and placed it on top of my furikake covered rice. I could not help myself and picked up one piece of each side and stacked it on top of my poke. The plates come with rice topped with furikake, imitation crab mix, seaweed salad, and scoop of spicy tuna. All the flavors are straight bangers. There isn't one I didn't like. The flavor is so intense and packs a punch. The only thing I needed is more rice! I ended up ordering rice before I left to eat with the leftover. The cuts of fish are so buttery and texture just melts in your mouth. No tough or sinewy pieces. Each flavor tastes exactly as it's described and seasoned well. Cherry on top is that the service has been great both times. They're super chill and willing to answer questions and offer suggestions if it's your first time. There's a small counter with a few seats inside to eat and a couple tables outdoor. Also enjoyed the music they were playing inside as it's not the typical Hawaiian music as you'd expect. This place deserves the high ratings. Pros: - Awesome quality and flavor. I've had my fair share of Hawaiian poke in Hawaii and this place is just as wonderful! - Impeccable service. It was our 1st visit and they were patient with us; they even recommended us to sample the flavors. - Very cool vibes. I love their "live" menu. It automatically displays what's sold out and all the variety of flavors. I believe some flavors are on rotation and they have daily specials. Cons: - Very small place, and somewhat hidden. It's around the building so be aware. Seating is very limited, but they do have some outdoor seating. - Price is a tad steep, but I think for the quality, it's justifiable. Poke can be sold by weight and/or bowl/combo. Why go to Hawaii when you have Hawaii at home? LOL kidding. It's a 20 min drive from me, but well worth it. Easily top 5 Poké. They were out of the miso garlic salmon which I tried which would've been my go to choice after sampling. We got a half pound of the furikake salmon and the Kali Ahi.
