I've been curious about Poki Bowl and wanted to give them a go, as poke in Mission Valley area is pretty scarce. I popped in and the ladies working that day were very friendly! I got all the good recommendations in terms of what sauces to go for, offering combinations that they liked and I had a great ordering experience. My bowl was a regular bowl, which consists of 3 scoops of regular fish. I was able to go half on the rice and greens, and chose spicy tuna and double the salmon. The staff offered to mix the cucumbers in a spicy mixture before tossing it in, and it provided a lot of flavor. My sauces I chose were the house signature spicy and their wasabi sauce. Their spicy tuna was not at all spicy, but thanks to the sauces on top it mixed very well in the bowl. As poke does add up, this bowl was quite filling given the amount of toppings you're allowed. Their spam musubi are only $1 until 7PM I believe, which is a nice happy hour deal! It is a laid back restaurant and I enjoyed my bowl dining in. I went with the small bowl ( 2 scoops of fish $15 + $1 avocado ) after everything my total came out to around $17 due to their discount when you pay cash ! I've read other reviews and will agree the portion size of the fish is a little skimpy and sauce wise lacking a little flavor , other than that they do pile it on and you'll def get full . When I saw the employee prepare my food and she was pumping the spicy marinade, some of it kind of missed the bowl and ended up on the edge of the rim. Maybe that's why it wasn't flavored well, and maybe I should have said something but I didn't want to be "that" person and I thought she probably knew what she was doing, otherwise she would have just put more in. My boyfriend and I shared the regular sized bowl which comes with 3 scoops of protein. They have pretty much all the typical toppings of a poke shop and was surprised to see that they also offer boba and spam musubi. The poke itself was ok...I think The Poke Co. in the plaza across the street is much better. Their rice just seemed undercooked. There was a lack of flavor in the spicy tuna which is a bummer because that is my favorite protein to get. I will say I did appreciate how they offered a non-spicy sauce. The establishment felt clean and service was friendly. Perfect amount of portions, with lots of options for toppings. The salmon was cut into big chunks that was tender and flavorful. The yellowtail was nice and squishy. Brown rice was cooked perfectly and there was not an overload amount of sauce- it was just right. They also give you chunks of fresh avocado rather than mashed avocado. Got a large poke bowl to share. I'm not too big on poke so just tasted parts of it. I'm not too big on raw fish but like tofu. We didn't order the tofu as a protein as it seems a bit expensive if you just wanted tofu since it's the same price as the fish options. (I wish if you just wanted tofu as a protein that it would be cheaper) But it did taste fresh and was good. Loved the toppings (I did eat most of the toppings) They have a happy hour and the spam musubi looks good and I might try that but I'd be back. Ordering is easy. And service is great. I did not realize until today that there is a parking lot with retail parking spots in case you can't find a spot on the street. They really load the bowls up here. New hot spot in mission valley! Poki bowl is very clean and roomy. Their menu is easy to read. Just like most poki places, you build your own bowl. Starting off with a base, then choice of protein followed by sauce and toppings. One thing this place lacked for me was flavor. They do mix sauce with the poki and add more sauce on top (option), but it wasn't enough for me. I'm a sauce girl. Next time I'll ask for more on top and mixed in with my poki. Poki Bowl is one of a handful of new eateries that have opened in the Civita complex of Mission Valley. The shop just had a grand opening a week ago and was located right around the corner from LA Fitness. Nearby parking becomes challenging as the exercise facility draws a lot of patrons. The suite was clean and modern with an oceanic blue color scheme that more than a few competitors have adopted. The inside seating had four tables that could each seat four customers. Three bowl sizes were available... regular (three protein scoops), large (four protein scoops), and kids (no protein scoops). Interestingly, the price for the last choice was still $10.95 which I found to be very expensive for no seafood included. The base had options of white sushi rice, brown rice, mixed greens, or chips. The protein selections were spicy tuna, salmon, ahi tuna, yellow tail, octopus, shrimp, and tofu. One of four sauces could be added... non-spicy, mild, medium, or spicy. Up to a dozen toppings were available as part of the price and then you could finish with a dressing drizzle. The large bowl I selected had a white rice base with salmon, ahi tuna, yellow tail, and shrimp. Non-spicy sauce and most of the toppings were added. I did like that there was no surcharge for an initial scoop of avocado. Miso dressing was the drizzle of choice. The mixture was carefully assembled in the bowl by the worker. The quality of the seafood was good while the raw toppings seemed fresh. Inflation has ballooned the cost of build-your-own poke bowls everywhere so the prices at Poki Bowl were on par with what I have observed around town. read more

Won't comment on service since they'll need time to train their staff and get a groove. The layout and ordering process is pretty standard, pick a size bowl (regular or large), base, protein, sauces, toppings. Avocado is included! The seasoning of the fish is pretty interesting, it's different oils and soy sauce. I liked the clean/simple flavor rather than being coated in overly salty and sweet sauces like other spots. Love that there is a fresh and healthier alternative to the taquitos place that has been the only other restaurant on the street, the only drawback is the price really. $17 for a regular (3 scoops), $18 for the large (4 scoops), it's pretty pricey to have frequently but I believe the cost is commensurate to the quality. read more

This is a convenient location in Civita, right across from the LA Fitness which is great for an after workout meal. The restaurant has some outdoor and indoor seating and everything is clean and new. I was greeted upon entering and there was only one worker there at the time so took a little while since the person ahead of me had never ordered a poke bowl before and needed a lot of guidance. The price point was a little higher than I expected but was very satisfied with the large portions and ability to add many toppings (there is an extra charge for additional scoops). The fish is fresh and the variety of protein and toppings was very good. They did a good job marketing to the LA Fitness crowd by giving a 10% off coupon which I used, and they gave me another one after paying.
