My favorite is the furikake salmon but there are so many styles to choose from! Try them all! The mac salad and edamame is delicious as well. The shop is very popular & opens at 11am. There is a decent line that accumulates by 11:30am-noon so be prepared to wait but patience will pay off with a delicious meal! A small but mighty poke takeout shop located in Ocean Beach, just a short drive from Sunset Cliffs. I'm not often in the city, but after trying It's Raw Poke Shop once, I know I'll be a regular each time I visit. This was probably the closest you'll get to authentic Hawaiian poke on the mainland. The concept is simple yet fresh, where less is more, allowing the quality of the seafood to shine and take the spotlight. Besides poke, they also offer plate lunches with traditional Hawaiian cuisine like Kalua pig and Chicken Long Rice. We went with their poke combo, which comes with your choice of two poke varieties, a scoop of rice, and mac salad. We came around 1 p.m. on a Saturday, and not all of the choices were available. For our order, we had the furikake ahi and spicy crawfish tails and were blown away by the freshness and flavor. I've never seen crawfish as part of a poke lineup, but I sure wasn't mad about it! While my husband and I shared a plate, it was so good that I declared I'd be getting my own next time. The line was a bit long, but it moved quickly as the workers were efficient at getting orders out. I got the Kalua + poke combo, thinking it's a good deal for only $4 extra but turned out you got less than half lb of poke compared to the $18 regular poke plate w/ half lb poke. Also, if you don't care for the rice or their angel-hair mac salad (which was weird), just buy the poke by the pound--it's way better value, especially for salmon ($26.99/lb) vs. ahi/tako ($29.95/lb). You're basically paying $5 extra for the rice/Mac if you order the cheaper salmon poke. The Kalua pork was great and plentiful, but the shoyu ahi was just ok and the kimchi ahi lacked umami (more like straight gochugaru). We still ended up getting multiple different kinds of poke to try. My guy and I both agreed the poke was good and the quality was fresh, but it really wasn't anything special. I also thought the sauce to fish ratio was off (too much sauce); my guy agreed but doesn't mind it as much as I do. Honestly one of the best poke I've had in SD! We went towards the end of the day but luckily they were still open. The line was a bit long but once we ordered, it was pretty quick to get our food. It's a pretty small shop and there's only street parking so definitely expect to be waiting around a bit, or drop some people off to get in line while you park if you're with friends. There's a couple of tables outside to eat at but my friends and I just ate standing up. was in town for the weekend and our group wanted to try It's Raw which was highly recommended from other friends. we waited in line for about 40 min on a Sunday afternoon around 11. for the amount of time we waited, i cant say it was super worth it. the amount of poke was disappointing and the mac salad (although their special) was a bit bland. however the fish was pretty fresh and it satisfied the poke craving. we got the kalua pig plate + poke plates, and 3-4 more poke plates to share. the kalua pig was decent and my favorite poke order was probably the furikake salmon. they also gave extra furikake containers with our order which i liked. but tip from a local we received after waiting in line: call in your order instead so you can skip the line! if we didnt have to wait as long, i would probably have found it a bit more worth it. the service was great tho, if coming back, i would definitely call instead of waiting in line. read more

Our first meal in San Diego was at It's Raw Poke Shop. Companion and I love poke, and having lived in Hawaiʻi, I know good poke. I will say it's good for the mainland, but definitely not like the island. This is a well-known spot among locals. A great introduction to mainland folks on what poke actually is. Also, they're a takeout spot, so we chose to eat at the beach. Okay, so the food breakdown. I had the Poke Plate, and my companion got the Kalua Pig Plate Lunch. For my poke, I chose Shoyu Ahi and Spicy Salmon. Anytime I get poke, I feel like you gotta have a baseline--shoyu ahi being mine. It was good, but the cuts and texture of the ahi weren't consistent. It was still tasty, and I appreciate how you could add as much or as little shoyu as you want, but I wish there were a bit more flavor. The spicy salmon was good! Creamy, spicy, and tasty. The fish was fresh, but I do feel like they could've given a bit more. I had a bite of my companion's plate, and the Kalua Pig was so salty that it was a bit overpowering. The portion was very generous, but some pieces were dry. The mac salad was good, a different pasta shape I'm used to, and the rice was hard. So overall, it was good but not worth the wait. Thanks to yelpers I decided to try this poke spot! The poke was so fresh! It's a tiny spot in OB so expect a small line as they are very good and have no seating inside. It's basically to go only. It's also only 5 minutes from the beach. I got the spicy ahi tuna and the wasabi ahi tuna which I loved. For sides I got rice, cucumbers, and macaroni salad. And because I like trying a little of everything I indulged in some edamames and spam musubi. I will definitely make a point to visit more often! read more

Prepare to pay for parking worth more than your poke and wait up to an hour to get your fish scooped. I came all the way with some friends from LA to try this place out and our experience left more to be desired. We all ordered a plate with came with 2 proteins and 2 sides for $18. For my proteins, I got the spicy salmon and the furikake ahi and both of them were pretty good. I liked how creamy the spicy salmon was and I liked the flavor of the furikake ahi. However, the scoops of fish weren't as big as I hoped. I tried my friend's spicy ahi and I liked that one the best. Despite the poke being good, they weren't good enough to carry the experience. The sides were pretty disappointing. The white rice was on the harder side and wasn't soft and sticky like sushi rice. The mac salad was made with chopped up angel hair pasta which I found weird. It also wasn't creamy and flavorful as I hoped. I did like the little coconut jelly piece though, it was a nice and small dessert palate cleanser especially since the poke had a fishy aftertaste. The area was crowded since it was next to the beach and the paid parking nearby was $25 for a minimum of 2 hours. Unless you're planning on doing other things in the area, it's not worth paying for parking just to get poke that's cheaper than the parking. The line was long but it felt longer since the staff took a long time to prepare each order. I would plan to wait up to an hour in line on weekends. It's Raw was a great stop in San Diego! The poke is super fresh. I got the furikake salmon because I don't love spicy foods and it was perfect. I also got the edamame for $1 extra. Just FYI, it comes still in the pods so you have to eat it by itself first and remove the seeds from the pods. The edamame was a little spicy too. You get your food in a timely manner. It's a small shop, and they offer Hawaiian sweets such as: Kauai Kookie, chocolate covered macadamia nuts, Ube Crinkles (cookies), butter mochi. Oh, and jars of furikake. Each of us got the poke plate which all came with rice and a mac salad. They also give you a side of furikake to sprinkle. I got to try spicy salmon, furikake salmon, shoyu ahi, and their special that day, spicy ahi cali roll. My favorite had to be the spicy ahi cali roll, but they were all good. It definitely reminds me of Hawaii. When it's comes to poke, I believe the rice should be as good as the fish. Unfortunately, the rice was not as moist and fluffy as it looked? A bit dry in some parts. Kinda threw me off when eating the poke plate. Maybe I got the last scoops of that batch of rice. I never had mac salad like this before.
