My family and I stopped in here on a Friday for lunch. We are greeted the door by a man and he was behind the counter and he also made the pizza. 8th street pizza is a downtown new Albany Indiana pizzeria that sits as the name suggests on the corner of 8th street. My family and I made the trip from Lousiville to dine at Thai establishment. It is smallish on the inside. You walk up and order at the counter. They have a small sitting kitchen bar in front of the counter for people to eat real quick or wait for there order. They also have about 3-4 small tables in a lobby area. So obviously you can dine In but the place is more geared for takeout orders. Being we made the 25 min trip from Lousiville and we are a family of 6 we commandeered the tables In the lobby and dined in. We got a 16 inch New York style pepperoni pizza to share and I personally grabbed a ham and cheese calzone with my wife getting a Cesar salad as well. Pretty reasonably priced. While order cost under $35 so not bad at all. There was a bit of a wait but the worker was very upfront and told us before we even paid "there may be a long wait tonight especially on the calzone". Which I'm ok with. I don't mind long waits as long as it communicated. So props to them for having service integrity and keeping us informed. The pizza was covered in pepperonis. It is thin we crusted which I guess makes it the New York style. The pieces we're New York style large. But they were still a decent slice. The slices were covered too to bottom with pepperonis too. My kids all loved it. I tried a slice and I will say it was pretty tasty. I was was nervous about all the pepperonis (I like pepperoni but too much is overkill for me) but it was really good and maintained and overall good flavor. My wife said her Cesar salad was good and deceptively large. She kept saying "I feel like someone keeps putting more in this bowl where I'm not looking. My calazone was just ok. Decent size portion, good breading and cheese and a nice sauce. The ham pieces they skimp a bit. They put the little ham blocks in it that you would find on a cheap salad bar platter. So that was my complaint on it. It wasn't bad but the ham made it seem cheap and generic. Would much rather prefer some baker and Cooked ham traditionally found in ham and cheese calzone. That said we still had a good experience here. As I stated the kids loved the pizza and want to come back. I'd be very willing to come back. I'd probably just stick with pizza or inquire about the type of ingredients used in the other calzone toppings. read more

On our way back from a trip to Rough River Dam State Park (see my review), I called 8th Street Pizza to order for dine in. We were about 10 or so miles away. When we arrived, the pizza was ready and it was as good as previous reviews stated. There were 3 very friendly and professional female staff members. Score! Another great pizza place near me. 8th Street Pizza has been around for a while and has been on my 'intending to try' list much longer than it should have been. Not only do they have great food; they have a great mission. From their website: "8th Street Pizza, located at 411 E Spring Street in New Albany, Indiana, is the area's only pay-it-forward pizzeria serving Floyd, Harrison, and Clark counties since 2016." I love that one of the options on the menu is to be able to purchase a slice for someone who may be hungry, but can't afford food. I have been doing quite a bit of carry out lately, and I have to tell you that the breadsticks almost didn't make it home. The tantalizing aroma of garlic had me wanting to reach in the box and start dinner early. But pictures must be taken, so I fought the urge to munch. They were worth the wait! So soft and so garlicky. And the marinara that accompanied them was very good, too. Not that they needed it because they are tasty all by themselves. Next up was a sausage, mushroom & onion calzone. The adjective that came to mind with the first bite was 'pillowy'. I don't know that I have ever had bread that soft and light before. The fillings were tasty, but that bread... I can't speak to their dine in service, but everyone I have encountered behind the counter has been friendly. 8th Street Pizza puts a lot of effort into giving back to the community and acting as a resource for those in need. I really admire that and gave an extra star because of it. I wasn't a huge fan of the pizza, unfortunately. The style is a hand-tossed, thinnish crust with a good portion of toppings! The sauce was pretty thin to the point of missing and the pepperoni had an overwhelming sausage smell and flavor. It was decent pizza. Service was fine. It took a minute to get someone to recognize that I was there for carryout, but quick once they did. The store is spotless! Great mission. Good service. Alright pizza. read more

First time at 8th St pizza. I have to say, I am impressed! Not just the pizza, but the mission. Feeding those who need it most. Ordered a nice sampling of items for dinner for the family. Calzone, cheese sticks, Neapolitan, BYO 16" with bacon and sausage. The restaurant is spotless. The staff are super friendly. Calzone, BYO and cheese bread were fantastic and I would highly recommend. Plenty of toppings on the pizza and the bacon was plentiful and well cooked! Tried this place for the first time this evening, and I must say that the pizza is very good. I really enjoyed the tangy sauce, and the pepperoni's were large and delicious. I don't know much about the history of this eatery, but I definitely plan on visiting the place in person one day soon. I had this delivered to my home tonight, but I look forward to trying some of their other offerings. The price point was pretty much on par with similar offerings in the area, and their toppings did honestly stand out as great quality. This place is not for me. The food is fine but not my style. Be sure and join the text club for coupons. We used the free bread sticks with purchase. I bought a large all meat. While everything tasted okay the bread sticks were very small and the 1 tiny garlic butter wasn't enough to dip 1/2 of them. On the pizza the pepperoni was good but the other 3 meats were ground up too fine and all melted together into 1 flavor. The crust was too thick on the outside with to much edge but too thin in the center. The cheese level was pretty good, but on a meat pizza I like to get a good size chunk of each meat and be able to distinguish it from the rest of the pizza. read more

What is better than eating good food from good people on a great mission? When it is good pizza! Tried their pizza for the first time last night as part of a fundraiser for Let Us Learn - well what a pleasant surprise. I was expecting frozen cardboard crust and sweet sauce typical of Southern Indiana. Instead I was presented with a chewy edge and crisp under crust topped with perfect sauce, cheese, pesto and roasted veggies. Their dough is like no other. They forgot one of my fillings for the Calzone, but the dough and cheese mixture will definitely have me come back sometime. My friend and I, who has Tourette's syndrome were kicked out of the restaurant and threatened to be called on by the police. The owner did not display his best judgment and acted irrationally! Over priced for the quality. Our sausage pepperoni pizza tasted bland and about the same quality as a Jacks frozen pizza from Kroger if it had a thicker crust. We ordered the 16", they were very busy when we picked up the order but had good customer service!
