Kinda stuck in the middle on to what to really put for Arni's review wise. I would give 4 stars for the pizza and breadsticks and 3 stars for service and location. I was browsing for locally owned pizza place options in New Albany and saw this place pop up. I phoned in an order and first time line was busy, 2nd time I got through. Ordering went ok, not great. It would be half hour before food was ready. I arrived literally on time however, never being here before I didn't know what to expect. It's a small building and it does look pretty old, it has been around 60 years and is an Indiana staple. The parking lot is pretty small as well with additional parking in the back. I go inside and there is a line of people waiting. It didn't take me long to be waited on though. It was around $21 and some change for pizza and breadsticks. Pretty reasonable if you ask me honestly. I got a 14 inch pepperoni and breadsticks. I was supposed to get marinara sauce but got cheese sauce instead. Now the pizza, I like that the pepperoni is shredded instead of round, Pizza King is the only other place I know that does their pepperoni like this. The pizza itself was absolutely delicious and the breadsticks did pair well with the cheese sauce. I would like to try their other foods as well. Reason for 3 stars, location is small and dated but, I'm very into nostalgia. Parking can also be scarce. Inside seemed small and not much room for dining in, I ate some of the pizza in my vehicle. I give 4 stars to the pizza and breadsticks. I would return here. read more

I know Arni's is a "thing" in Indiana, but the particulars of this location are just absurd. You can only do carry out. You call ahead to order, then you sit on your car and try to call in again to let them know you are here. I'm not sure if the issue is a lack of staff or a lack of phone lines, but I had to try TWENTY times before I could get though. TWENTY. And, even after I got through, I found out the order that was supposed to be ready @ 730 wasn't even in the oven yet. It was a busy Saturday night so it took a few minutes but it gave me an opportunity to watch the kids (all of the staff that I could see looked like teenagers) at work. Every one of them was masked properly. There seemed to be a well organized, very efficient system in place. Honestly, it was a little like watching a well-choreographed dance. I've been going to Arnis for literally 30 years and I'm done. Their antiquated phone system makes it impossible to get thru to order and when you go pick it up it's impossible to get thru to let them know you're there to bring it to you. The result is cold food and it's not inexpensive. Their phone it's ridiculous. The employees seem to care less. When I asked about it they just said, it just sucks and shrugged their shoulders. I am always about helping out local pizza joints and this is one of my favorites. I will drive to southern Indiana to get their pizza. They have been my go too since 1998. The prices are affordable and you get awesome pizzas. They have a good menu to choose from. It's easy to order from. I wish they had online ordering but it's all good. I have never had bad food from them. Their pizza is always hot. It's cut in squares which I love. The staff has always been friendly. My food is always ready. I am currently staying in New Albany for a while and was looking to try some new places, have heard people rave about this place for a while as I have some family that live over here. I have to say I was very disappointed, it's really hard for me to dislike pizza because even bad pizza is usually good. This place achieved the impossible. This pizza tastes like the Tostino's frozen pizza you would get at the grocery. They even use the little cubed pepperoni's. What got me though was how little cheese was even on my pizza, I would have thought they forgot it all together except there was a little on two small corner pieces. The pizza is great. Let me start by saying that. Thin crust, a nice crisp, not burnt. I genuinely love their pizza. However, I've also had other menu items that were sub-par. The "nachos" for $7 are movie theatre nachos. What a disappointment. I could go to Kroger and get my own chips and toppings for less than $7. If you're touting "nachos" as a menu item, at least include some jalapeño or other toppings. What a scam!!! I've also had sandwiches from here that were skimpily dressed. Perhaps the defining example of "Indiana Cracker Crust" pizza. This is an ardently old-school pizzeria with a small, no-frills dining room and a whole lotta traffic-cone orange throughout. NuLu it ain't, and I wouldn't have it any other way. The Killer Cajun is an outstanding specialty pizza, but honestly, my most common order is a good old pepperoni pie. Their little cubed pepperonis are polarizing, but personally, I can't get enough of 'em. The prices are exceptionally reasonable across the board and you're unlikely to find cheaper local pizza in this area. I'm 3rd generation to be raised on Arni's pizza nights. In all seriousness there are very few things I miss about Southern Indiana, now that I live in California, but Arni's is one of these things. Within the first two days whenever I'm back visiting, Arni's is a must. The thin crust that is slightly burnt on corner pieces with the season and salt is unlike anywhere else. The toppings are always fresh. It's also the only place I will get sausage on my pizza. It's chopped up and so good! The suave is light and not over powering, which is the way I like it. Arni's takes me back to my childhood and important moments in my life. I grew up going to this small little pizza shop where the crust is thin and cut into small squares. Toppings are piled on and cooked in the oven to perfection. For years I've been getting a large pepperoni and mushroom with extra cheese and extra paste. This tasty pizza was there during many life moments including the passing of my mom, wedding rehearsal dinner, and the birth of 2 of my children. If your from Indiana than you probably know Arnis. What a disappointment. The New Albany location switched to carry out only a few years back during the coof panic. I get that. Since the coof panic is long over, I went there recently looking for a seat in their dining room and having another delicious memory of my misspent youth. I was met by a most unfriendly kid at the door who said I cannot enter as it is carry out only and if I wanted a pizza, go back to my car in the parking lot and call in an order. Every restaurant I know of has long since reopened their dining area, except Arni's. They can't blame the covid panic any more, so now it's only greed driven and at the expense of their loyal customers. They now have fewer on the payroll since no tables are waited on, but the dining room is no longer packed solid like it used to be. I grew up in New Albany and Arni's was the place to be in the late 60's-early 70's. Back then, the Astrop's ran it. J.B., Donnie, and Lois were always working, greeting you as you walked in, and making the best pizzas you've ever had. I left New Albany many years ago, but whenever I'm back in town, it always included a visit to Arni's. I've always loved this place. First problem is they took an hour to make 2 sandwiches and some cheese bread. When I called they did not tell me they were 30 minutes behind. I thought 40 minutes till work would be okay for a carry out order and ended up late to work. I got the Italian beef sandwich. The beef was okay but the cheese was a little lacking and the marinara was flavorless. She got a vegetable stomboli. Now I checked and the definition of stomboli is a turnover. Used to it being a baked pastry shell with filling. This was a sub like my beef sandwich. She said the vegetables were cut so fine you could barely tell what you were eating. The cheese again was skimpy and she thought the sauce was bland too. Her bread was very scorched. We also got garlic cheese bread. It was similar to the frozen stuff you get at the grocery. 3 Little pieces of highly processed bread baked in a pan with a smattering of cheese on top. Lastly they hit one of my pet peeves. No receipt, just a credit card slip with no itemization and to their detriment no way to tip. I almost forgot this is a pizza/Italian restaurant with real marinara but my cheese bread came with hienz marinara dip like I was eating at a concession stand. read more

Horrible Stromboli!!! My wife ordered 2 whole Stromboli then brought to home. I opened one of Stromboli and the bread wasn't even toasted enough since they were still white instead of brown. We are long time customers and this carry-out order was disgusting. One star is a gift. The lettuce in the junior salads was going bad, had turned brown, and even looked like it had been frozen. Disgusting. The deluxe pizza was as bad and tasted like I imagine an old sock would taste like. Again, disgusting. Let my just state that their hot ham and cheese is the best in town. Their Stromboli's aren't as good as they were, say eight years ago. They are substantially smaller, different bread and I swear a different sauce, but hey maybe my taste buds have changed. I still enjoy it though. I use to automatically get chips and a pickle with my hot ham, now I have to ask and more often than not they still forget. I don't even bother anymore. I still crave their pizza every once in a while. Their pepperoni is the only type I like on pizza. It's greasy and ooey gooey which I love, its part of it. They have a great cherry coke fountain drink, I don't know why I just enjoy it. The reason I give them three stars is because service SUCKS. It has for years and it just gets worse. They have children in there working and okay, I get it, first job. They are young, they don't care much, but man. Their food isn't quick to make, so I try to order to go. I will call when I get to my car. I think out of all the times I've called I've only had them pick up twice in recent years. It takes me around twenty to thirty minutes to get from my work to this location. I will be waiting the entire time on hold or getting no response. So I just give up and either order in the store, only to discover that they aren't busy at all. They just didn't want to answer the phone. I've even had to stop them talking to each other to have them place my order after being inside for several minutes. I don't mind waiting for food or service if it's busy, I get it and I understand. However when there isn't anything going on there are no excuses. More often than not I just go to a different restaurant that seems to want my business. read more

Pros: -Pizza is inexpensive. For a large two topping pizza, price was around $12. - Parking is ample around Arnis. Even if you don't find parking in the little parking spots in front of the restaurant, there is a lot of street parking nearby. - Service was quick. I called ahead and was told 15-20 minutes but when I got to the restaurant 12 minutes later, the pizza was ready to go. Cons: -Arnis got my pizza order wrong. I ordered a pepperoni and mushroom pizza (don't hate), and when I got home I realized that they gave me a bacon and mushroom pizza. Not the same and while I normally like bacon, I was just feeling like pepperoni that day. I only limit myself to pizza about once a month so I had the pizza in front of me and I decided to try Arnis pizza for the first time. - Unless pizza is advertised as a deep dish or some other sort of pizza that isn't the "traditional" type of pizza, I feel that pizza should come in those well known triangle slices. I was surprised to open the box and find the pizza cut into random square sizes. - Pizza is super thin compared to pretty much any other pizza joint I have visited in Kentuckiana. And I would be ok with that if the pizza blew away those other places in flavor. Unfortunately, the thin pizza only contributed to the heavy oil being tasted instead of the toppings. The bacon tasted really hard and after taking a bite of it I considered going back and getting the pizza that I ordered. And then I thought, will pepperoni replacing this bacon really make the rest of this pizza taste any better? I didn't think it would. This is the only time that pizza has made my stomach hurt later that night because of how much grease there was, this was even after patting down the pizza with napkins. I get a lot of people like Arnis because it brings on feelings of nostalgia since apparently it's been around for a long time in the New Albany area. But as far as pizza quality, it just wasn't for me. I'm not going to go as far as saying that making pizza is an art but certain places have done something more to wow me with their amazing pizza recipes. I have to tell you that this is a great little pizza place. The staff are all very young folks but they all really work hard. The place is very small and we have always just ordered and took it home. There are always 4-5 of them stuffed back in a small kitchen area and they work around each other like a machine. We always tip them good because they are all working so hard. The pepperoni is chopped up and spread evenly. I love this about the pizza. It is also a thin crust. I also like this because it is not all bread. Their toppings are plentiful and service is good. To me Arni's is a step above frozen pizza. It would be like telling your friends Tombstone is the best pizza they'll ever taste. I'll eat it but I'd never suggest ordering it. Thin crust pizzas with your choice of standard toppings. This is a dine in/carry out establishment only. The staff is usually five high school students supervised by one adult. They also offer sandwiches. The only one I tried was the Texas BBQ sandwich and it was a total joke. Sandwich consisted of bread, the same sausage balls they use as pizza toppings, and BBQ sauce. It's the kind of sandwich you would make when food is running low in your fridge and payday isn't for another week. Pass. If Arni's pizza were a day in the week it would be a Tuesday.
