I used to frequent Thailand in Clark prior to the ownership change so since then I haven't really encountered a Thai place that I liked in the surrounding area. Fortunately, after trying 8Thai last night I am happy to say it has taken Thailand's place. Service was fast and efficient- even the owner came up to ask how we were doing. It's BYOB which is a plus- my husband even walked around the corner and picked up a few beers from the local brewery after we ordered. We had the following: crispy wings, shu mai, spring rolls, pad Thai, drunken noodles, pad see ew, duck volcano, mango sticky rice and Thai iced teas. I usually judge a place based on their pad Thai, drunken noodles and Thai iced tea- all were excellent, full of flavor and tasty. Portions were generous and overall affordable. We haven't had a good Thai food in a while around our area. Khun Thai by Millburn in my opinion was very good but it folded during covid so we traveled to Cranford to check this place. We were delighted of the food. I think the quality of their food will improve much more after just being opened for a few months. It has the authentic Thai taste after ordering phad thai and beef green curry. The ambiance of the restaurant can be improved, especially if the owner can get rid of the funky smell as soon as you breathe the first air inside. The first impression is big... but going back to the food. The Phad thai was excellent and the green curry as well. Although they should have used a real serving plate instead of a small aluminum casserole, which some may like and find unique but its primitive looking and the portion was too small. I mean, what would adding a little more bamboo shoots, scallions, red and green peppers do to your bottom line? Nothing, not only will customers feel very satisfied with the overall experience. Just had an order delivered at a cost of $83.00. My girlfriend spent a lot of time in Thailand and wanted a good Thai meal. The food did not meet our expectations. The shrimp dish was dry and no flavor. The appetizers were less than desirable. Living in Cranford we want to support local businesses. The cost was not a problem. The food is incredibly good! My boyfriend and I went three weekends in a row. I had the chicken pad see yu and he had the red curry with shrimp. The flavors were authentic and dimensional. The ingredients were fresh and tasty. The staff was perfect because they were attentive and quick, while still giving us privacy. Takeout review but I'll note that the place looks very clean and contemporary inside. The various dishes ordered were good but nothing really stood out as a "must-try." Spring rolls were a bit greasy and had an extra layer or two of dough but they were tasty. Chicken Satay was cooked nicely and a good portion size but the accompanying peanut sauce was too chunky and the cucumber relish needed a little more liquid. Summer Roll was lackluster and cut in such a way it was nearly impossible to pick up and eat. Typically it is sliced in half. This time it was sliced in thirds which meant the filling was falling out all over the place. Some entrees tried were Pineapple Fried Rice, Prik Khing Curry with Chicken, Pad See Ew with Shrimp, Garlic Crystal Shrimp, Thai Basil Duck and Spicy Cashew with Beef. Dishes ordered mild were in fact mild. Two star level spice level was a hint of spice. Four star spice level order "Thai Hot" was also a hint of spice. It is hard to find Thai places that actually turn on the heat when that is what you want and this place is no exception. Tasty Thai in Fanwood continues to be the only place nearby that goes all in on the spice level when that is what you want. The portions of protein were also smaller than most places in the area but prices were just as high if not higher. Typically you can make two meals out of a dish but not so with 8Thai as there is not enough protein included in the dishes. So everything was good but nothing great. read more

Being local and having been in this restaurant for years as a pizza place they did a great job with the space and made it bright and inviting. I've been a cranford resident for over 37 years And always supporting local businesses but with this one I don't think that they give a shit Just this morning I went to the dry cleaners on the corner which offer parking in the lot just to the left of cleaners which also share the lot with the coffee shop and yes 8 Thai Anyway, if anyone if familiar you exit u go around the building I too understand that restaurants need to unload produce but there was 4 guys unloading a personal vehicle with maybe 8 items All 4 we're discussing I guess who's going to unload Then started to unload items Then only one person continued to unload the last of items Which by they way he took his time Then went into back of restaurant for a few minutes Then getting a little aggravated of waiting I kindly beeped my horn. And finally the same guy came out and signaled for me to reverse and back out of the lot. Just think the restaurant personnel would have more courtesy to expedite the unloading and move the vehicle But no he signaled to reverse then went back into restaurant and closed his trunk and back into restaurant door and closed it Just like say go F yourself. Almost like I was doing wrong and inconveniencing them. Because of this action I will never dine or order anything from this new business which is trying to make it And by the way, I too run a local business for the same 37 years and my respect and reputation has allow my local business to succeed in Cranford. This action was unprofessional and not necessary I told the rude guy that because of his actions I will post to share with others just how rude either the worker was. There will be more. we ordered takeout for three. duck, pad Thai, and pineapple fried rice as entrees, and crab Rangoon and chicken skewers with peanut sauce as appetizers. The food was delicious. I've eaten here a few times before and the food is delicious. The ambiance is very nice also. Unfortunately the service is not on point. I dined here last night with a party of 4. We ordered apps to share which came out 2 plates at a time which was no problem. The problem was the service of the entrees. They were served one dish at a time over 20 minutes. The last entree was cold even after the long wait. I'm sorry but the hallmark of a good restaurant is serving all of the entrees at once. There is nothing more uncomfortable than sitting and staring at your food while waiting for others to get served or eating one person at a time. We Arrived at 8:40 and as we Were seated we were told "we close at 10". The waitress was Clearly annoyed with us and never Smiled.
