I lived in Japan for 6 years and lived in San Diego for over 10 years. Most of the ramen shops in San Diego are ok, nothing to really brag about. Yesterday my wife wanted to eat Ramen so on on way home from Newport Beach area, we found this restaurant on Yelp. Hate to say that the main reason we stopped here is was because they were still open. I am glad that we did try this restaurant. The Ramen was excellent and the staff is great. We learned that the owner was from Hokkaido Japan, a place renowned for their cuisine. The Ramen broth was amazing and the other ingredients is on point. I love Ramen places. This was amazing! Im so happy to find a Ramen place in SC (especially one I can walk to) that is delicious. The pork was perfectly soft/chewy/firm/tasty but the real star was the broth. I had the Tonkotsu ramen with soy sauce and it was delish. The broth I could drink straight in a coffee mug. Price: 12$ for one egg, and everything else you see in my attached picture. This is an insanely good price considering a place that is comparable to here (i20 ramen aliso viejo) has their ramen 11.50 but with 2 pork slices and spinach only. It is 1.50$ add on for seaweed green onion, egg, shoots, etc. I used to think that was affordable! I also had the pork buns but, while they were really good, I do not think they are in the top 10 that I've had. Definitely though, the star of the show was the ramen. I also loved the ordering system although it needs an easy way to add to the order (extra noodle/egg/chashu for example) im sure its still in development, but just in case if they need a recommendation anyways. If you are reading this, go with your instinct and try this place out! Where do I begin? We were camping at San Clemente State Beach and decided ramen sounded like it would hit the spot. Just over a mile away - we came to what looks like a hole in the wall - but really it's cute enough for date night! I love places that do just a few dishes but do them right and this is one of them! We ordered the pork tonkatsu ramen, one of each appetizer to go. We sat on the patio while waiting for a short bit when we saw one of the servers eating takoyaki and smiling because it was so good - so I had to order that too. You know the food is good when you see employees still eating it! Service was fast and incredibly friendly ( they were also wearing masks, the place was spotless and the tables are a good distance from one another). Let's start with the ramen - the noodles were the right consistency, the broth was a tad less flavorful then I was expecting-- but when you have a bite with the pork chashu or the soy sauce soft egg, you know it's because they want you to have the perfect bite each time! It was a decent potion and we shared. My 12 year old LOVED the takoyaki - I usually don't like anything seafood but it was yummy without being fishy. The dumplings were pan fried to perfection and my understanding is they make them from scratch! My husband and I liked the pork buns - light and flavorful! The fried chicken appetizer was not on the menu but oh so yummy with the Japanese Mayo on the side. Super cute place, good food, great friendly service - definitely come try them out! The pork was really good, the broth wasn't as rich or spicy as I would have liked. The noodles were awful. We also had the dumplings that weren't good. And I couldn't get over how perfect every slice of Chashu was - just the perfect amount of fatty and cooked perfectly... I also had the matcha IPA, which was a delight! One person to wait on you and one person to bus table so lots of waiting. Long wait to sit, long wait to order your food and longer wait to get your meal. The service is naturally not good. The waitress who I believe is part owner is stressed, doesn't write things down and runs from table to table. For example we didn't get our drinks for over an hour even asking for it twice. Love this spot! The best ramen in San Clemente. Erica the owner is so sweet and always greets me upon arrival. She is friendly and knowledgeable. You can tell she loves what she does! She told me that every day they cook they're ramen broth fresh and it slow cooks for 6 hours. Yumm. The ambiance is beautiful and very well decorated.
