I think 9292 Shabu is currently one of the best mini (individual) hot pot restaurants in metro Atlanta. What makes 9292 Shabu stand out from other hot pot restaurants is their unlimited self-serve buffet of Korean appetizers/sides and hot pot ingredients like noodles, rice cakes, fish cakes, mushrooms, and vegetables. It's great. Only meat and seafood are served at your table; you get everything else yourself. While this place seems more quantity over quality, the quality is actually pretty decent for buffet-style eating. During our visit, everything on the buffet was fresh and clean. The selection was ginormous. 9292 Shabu opened in January 2019 in the Reynolds Crossing (Kroger) shopping plaza at the corner of Steve Reynolds Blvd and Old Norcross Rd. It's part of the 9292 family of Korean restaurants which presently includes 9292 Korean BBQ and 9292 Gopchang (intestines), all located in Duluth. This is a Korean hot pot restaurant. If you've been to 9292 Korean BBQ, you'll notice the layout and atmosphere of 9292 Shabu is similar. It's big and spacious with plenty of seating in a large, sectionalized dining room. They have private rooms too. This place is great for groups. There are lots of staff on-hand and they wear headsets to communicate. The space has an open, contemporary look to it and, like 9292 Korean BBQ, there are tons of TVs playing K-pop music videos. Typical of Korean restaurants, there's a convenient server call button at every table. Ventilation was good, but not perfect. With all the hot pots boiling away, the interior did get fairly humid with condensation build-up on the windows. However, our group never felt uncomfortable nor did we leave the restaurant smelling like hot pot. The format is simple. You can either order a la carte meat and seafood or purchase one of the unlimited all-you-can-eat options. If you do unlimited, the entire table has to order unlimited. If you order a la carte, you pay a base price per person ($9.99 weekday lunch, $12.99 weekday dinner, $13.99 weekend/holiday lunch/dinner) - this gives you access to the buffet - plus the cost of each meat and seafood order ($3.99 to $8.99 per plate). There are two unlimited options and they cost $29.99 (option A) and $34.99 (option B) each with set menus: six specific meat and seafood selections for option A and nine for option B. The restaurant offers 17 different meat and seafood selections total so if you want to go for variety, I recommend a la carte, though value can certainly be had via the unlimited route, especially if you order lots of ribeye. You cook everything yourself. If you like to drink, they have a nice variety of beer, including Asian beers, soju, wine, and sake. The buffet is beautiful and functional. It's accessible from two sides and shaped like a snake rather than a straight line which I believe eases congestion. The buffet was well tended to and well-stocked during our visit. There are two sauce stations which is helpful. Hot foods like rice, soup, tteok-bokki (spicy stir-fried rice cakes), and japchae (stir-fried glass noodles and veggies) are only available during peak hours: 12:00pm-2:30pm and 6:00pm-8:30pm, weekdays and 12:00pm-8:30pm, weekends and holidays. We went with a la carte to try most of the beef cuts: * Prime Ribeye - $8.99 (2x) * Prime New York Strip - $7.99 * Prime CAB (Certified Angus Beef) Top Blade - $6.99 * Prime Brisket - $3.99 * Tripe - $3.99 You can't get the Prime Ribeye in any of the unlimited options; the best you're going to get there is the cheaper "Choice Ribeye" (regularly $6.99). Our server steered us away from the Prime Non-Fatty Beef ($4.99) and flat-out did not recommend the pork ($3.99). There are five broth options: dashi and spicy dashi (dashi is fish stock), vegetable and spicy vegetable, and beef bone. I ordered the beef bone and also tried the dashi and vegetable broths. I liked the beef bone the best, but it was also the richest and savoriest, so some people may not like that. The dashi broth is a solid default broth. Most of your flavor is going to come from your sauce anyway. If you don't know how to mix your sauce, there are helpful suggestions at the sauce station. I recommend following those guides if it's your first time. I custom-made mine with Sichuan peppercorns, chili oil, sambal, minced garlic, scallion, cilantro, and sesame sauce. It was terrific. I love how they offer numbing Sichuan peppercorns on the buffet here. I've never seen them on a buffet anywhere else. The Prime Ribeye was definitely our favorite meat so we ordered it twice. However, all the cuts were delicious and good quality. The tripe was served frozen. I really enjoyed the kimchi and self-serve tteok-bokki (very appetizing). Some of my favorites from the buffet included the pork dumplings, assorted fish cakes and fish balls, mushrooms (enoki, oyster, wood ear), tofu, watercress, lotus root, taro, and cactus and spinach noodles. I've been here multiple times, and I've never had a bad experience here. I don't think they've ever changed the menu drastically, and it's always a nice, healthy place to go to even if it is a bit pricey. It's a buffet style and you can get whatever you want for your hot pot, but if you want meat you have to pay extra. Other than that, everything's included in the "basic" one. When they ask for which broth you want, I get the seafood broth (everyone I know gets it and stuck by it). If you also need more broth, they'll give you a refill but it is extra (and one pot is usually enough). The only thing preventing me from giving them a 5 star review is that the buffet part closes at 9:30. The restaurant itself closes at 11. When I say that, they don't put out any more food an hour prior and start putting them away, so if you get there around 8:30-8:45, there's enough of everything else besides fresh vegetables. Incredible! We had the opportunity to come to the $9.99 weekday lunch buffet (without meat) option and were so impressed by the fresh food options, service, cleanliness and overall experience. It seems that we are not the only ones who feel this way as the line was growing long even at lunch opening at 11:30am. When we arrived, we were given a number and seated within 15 minutes (because we came early at 11:20am). We were given the option to choose our broth (unlimited) and then had the option to choose whatever toppings/sauce we wanted. There were a variety of various options from rice cakes to fish cakes to noodles to cooked traditional korean dishes. The restaurant was busy with 56 different tables but service regardless was incredible with servers constantly cleaning tables to staff restocking the fresh vegetables. Visited for my birthday weekend with friends and had the worst experience I've ever had in a restaurant. We came in at 8:45 restaurant closes at 10:30. From the moment we walked in, we were rushed out the door. Rushed to pick our broth the second we sat down, reminded SEVERAL times the bar closes at 9:45 to get food and not kindly. They closed the bathrooms an hour early to clean, wouldn't bring us water so we would leave faster, immediately brought our checks and stood over us until we paid. We went an hour with no water yet they came over several times to rush us. Then they stood right outside the door way waiting for us to finish. We left before 10 when the place closes at 10:30. I would never recommend this place to anyone. My friends and I have been to several wonderful restaurants in Duluth this weekend and have experienced service this horrible. You also can't sit more than 6 people in this restaurant so if your party is larger you will be separated. read more

Never thought I'd give a AYCE shabushabu place a 4-star. If you have a large stomach that can take in countless servings of somewhat-quality/edible meat and buncha boiled stuff to dip, go for the $40/head option (prime beef & brisket are the two proteins to go for) . Make sure to prepare a series of different dipping sauces to cleanse your palette and keep it interesting (literally translates to "to eat more until you burst"). Do try their suggested recipe posted at the dip station but Google "hot pot" dipping sauces for more variance as they have all the fixings ready at the station. Their mala-tang option is bullshit - grab some LaoGanMa @ the Great Wall before heading in. Don't be a dummy hot pot newbie pigging on the carb & starchy offerings, but do sprinkle some of those sugary starchies during heavy rounds of meat/meat/meat; keeping it in a rhythm will help you go far into the futile defeat vs. the ACYE buffets. Good kimchee options to fix that fobby Korean cravings too. And that Tang slush at the end? Wish I brought a gallon-sized Yeti to take some home. read more

If you've lived in the greater metro Atlanta area for more than six months, particularly in the Gwinnett County, you had to have stumbled upon places with the numbers 9292. If you have not gone there, I don't care what you think your food experiences are, you don't have any! You think you know food but you don't! Here's why. I don't care what your bucolic proclivities are because if you have not visited any 9292 joint, you missed out. Their Korean BBQ flagship restaurant is a must as their quality of meat, industrial ambiance, k-pop flared musical choices, and timely service is a must. But the quality of the meat alone is worth the visit and with their all you can eat option, it is worth dropping the price. Just bring 2 or more to enjoy it all! Then you have their 9292 Gopchang place. Again, your proclivities for your food choices are irrelevant. You don't know anything and aren't as culturally diverse as you think you are! 9292 Gopchang specializes particularly in offal. Yes, we're talking intestines. From large to small, stomach lining, tripe, and yes, even heart. It's not all you can eat but rest assured, it's worth going to especially if you want to expand your experience at FlavorTown! Which leads me to the last of the 9292 trifecta, 9292 Shabu-Shabu. Shabu-Shabu is a Japanese onomatopoeia of what it sounds like when you swish food in a broth. And if you know what shabu-shabu is, you know it's glorious! But with 9292 Shabu-Shabu, they kick it up with variety. Normal shabu is done with water. They offer broth styles like a hot pot joint but with the shabu shabu experience! The meat are all sliced thin, the quality of the veggie bar is on point, and their sauce options are pretty varied as it's a DIY bar for sauce. The meat quality is 9292 expected, pure quality! They can improve their service a bit by being a bit more attentive to the guests. I love the Mala broth. It's this spicy broth with Szechuan peppercorns mixed in giving the broth that numby feeling in the mouth. It's not a savory broth per se because the meat and the sauces will give it that flavor but it is flavorful from a spice angle of which I highly recommend. Again, 9292 anything is worth going to and 9292 Shabu Mini-Hotpot did not disappoint at all. They lived up to what I expected any 9292 place to present, top quality ingredients, fair pricing as it is $40 for all you can eat hot pot, interior is spacious and well lit while being trendy and not dingy like other "buffet" style places. Just don't make the mistake I did, and arrive 30 minutes before the kitchen closes which is 9:30 pm. Which doesn't make sense to me considering you're a place that stays open till 11 and people may want meat at 10pm. This was the one place I came to Atlanta looking forward to, and it truly did not disappoint. Their hours are limited with lunch ending at 2pm, so we got there right at 11:30am when they opened. And their staff was all immediately ready to seat the multiple parties waiting, despite it being a Monday lunch hour. They immediately seated us to a roomy booth and got our hot pot broths situated. Their most popular is the Dashi broth - a seaweed-based, not overpowering good soup base. Their AYCE hot pot ($17) does not come with unlimited meats unless you opt for the meat option, which is $35. However, the number of veggies and other sides they have in their buffet line are more than enough. Lots of the expected hot pot vegetables as well as fishcakes, noodles, rice cakes, etc. The quality of food was delicious. My very Korean parents even approved of their sides (like the kimchi, pickled radish, and bean soup). The meats, which you could order per dish, were great. The ribeye was a favorite. Lunch is pretty limited & still really pricy. Their lunch special prices kind of shocked me for what they offer. The veggies are pretty good & seem fresh/cycled over time. The meat is good but portions are disappointing (I got 12 slices of thinly sliced brisket for $9). The service here always leaves you a little wanting. We have had reservations not honored & have sat around with no one to greet, welcome, or seat us. Sometimes, they don't even bring you water & there is usually no follow up service. Tucked in the corner of the Kroger plaza on Satellite Blvd, I like that this hot pot buffet place really emphasizes on vegetables rather than make meats the centerpiece. for the all vegetable buffet, it's like 11-13$ a person and you can a la carte meat portions. If you're going for the all inclusive never ending meat, then it's 25-27$ a person and the whole table must do meats if one person does it. I think this is sensible and would otherwise prevent waste of food. The vegetables are all in the center of the restaurant ranging from fish balls, greens, different tofus, noodles, cabbage, pumpkin, taro, rice cakes, sauces. 'you have some hot options too like dukbokki and kimchi and soup all included. The soup options have spicy mara (ma la in Chinese), dashi (bonita fish stock), vegetable, spicy vegetable. I thought that their soup options were very light which was appropriate as you can always tack on your sauces to flavor things. some places have too much MSG in their soup base and this makes a post meal thirst problem. All the soups are good options since you can create your own sauces from the 20 or so toppings offered on the bars. Meat options- they have prime rib eye, brisket, chicken, pork and seafood with large mussels, clams, octopus, squid, shrimp. We had a party of 8 and basically one of each and each meat option is about 4.99-8.99$ so if you aren't eating that much meat at your table, then the a la carte option worked out nicely. Be careful about leaving noodles cooking too long as they can sink to the bottom and start burning if your fire is too high. Good service and attentive. we had the closed off room but I was personally freezing in the Air conditioning and the steam was nice for me. I always wondered why Atlanta didn't have an unlimited Korean shabu shabu restaurant. And 9292 owner listened haha. (Unlimited as in buffet for vegetable and such, but they have unlimited meat option as well). The restaurant is ginormous too. Yet they are extremely busy, so expect to have a wait if you go at peak hours. But, if you go near the end of peak hours (e.g. end of lunch), expect to see buffet items run out (they won't replace until dinner time unfortunately). Once you pick your broth options (more options like beef broth offered during dinner and weekend/holidays) and order any meat/seafood, you can go ahead and head out to the buffet to grab all the vegetable and other items (variety of veggies, tofu, potato, noodles, rice cakes, etc). When you return, you'll see the broth has arrived at your seat and is cooking. You can ask for more broth if you run out. I certainly recommend you make kalgooksoo (hot noodles) at the end with the leftover broth. Another recommendation (if you're not too full), is to make porridge. They have rice and uncooked egg to use. I recommend you have kalgookso or both kalgooksoo and porridge. Porridge is only good when you cook with the thickened broth after you cooked the noodles. The only disappointment was the service. Didn't even bring us water. Mixed up our broth (put them in the wrong seats and gave us dashi when we ordered spicy dashi). This is a vegetarian's delight b/c there are rows & rows of non-meat options to choose from and if you're non-vegetarian like me, there is plenty of choices to make you forget you even need meat, seriously. As you can tell from the name, they're a sister restaurant of 9292 Korean BBQ -- but this one is all about "shabu shabu" where you add your meat/veggies in a hot pot of broth in front of you, and then dip your cooked meat/veggies in your own homemade sauce. The concept here is slightly different from others b/c rather than have a heaping plate of meat/veggies, there's an AYCE buffet w/ rows and rows of veggies, noodles, mushrooms, fish cakes, ... they also have mandu, pastas, duk bokki, jap chae and kimchi. My favorite items for shabu shabu are the Korean sweet potato, butternut squash, watercress, bok choy, cabbage, sujebi, kalguksu, shiitake mushrooms. And for my homemade sauce - I just pick random stuff like chopped garlic, cilantro, ponzu sauce, sweet chili sauce, sanbal sauce, peanut sauce, minced radish, green onions ... like all hot pots, the sauce is key to enjoyment :) For my broth, I like getting the beef bone version. FYI the broth initially doesn't have much flavor but will after all your items cook in the broth and it will thicken too ... you might consider adding some of your condiment sauce too for flavor. And don't add everything at once b/c most of your items will cook fast and you don't want them overcooked. You'll also have to adjust the temperature yourself. FYI you can ask for more broth. One more thing - you can't take leftovers home. The pricing seems to fluctuate. In early April, dinner was $14.99, and now it's $13.99 for wknds/holidays, and $12.99 Mon-Thu. Meats/seafood is extra -- for my 2nd visit, we got the beef brisket for $3.99 which included 12 pieces. Man, I guess they know they're getting popular for being open only a couple of months (slightly over two I think). The weekend/dinner price is now $14.99. Also, how aren't you able to find a reservation for a group of 15? I gave you a name and another potential name, but you still couldn't find it?! Thanks for making us early birds wait. They have lots of options other than just veggies. They have rice cake, fish cake, fake crab meat, hot dogs, dumplings (filled with actual meat), noodles, mushrooms, kimchi, and various other tidbits to add into your pot. So you can see, adding the AYCE or a la carte meat option isn't really necessary. One thing you have to keep in mind is that Shabu broth will be more flavorless compared to hot pot. You can always order the spicy version and add the spices to it later as it comes in a separate dish. Psst. There are some hot food selections on the very right-hand side. There's fried rice, spicy rice cake, and two types of noodles. I honestly don't know how to feel about this place. A gf said some of her friends have gotten sick here before. After dining with her and the group, she didn't feel well. This is a brand new restaurant so why all this business about being sick. After glancing at some of the reviews, it seems like sanitation may be lacking... I like the concept of a buffet spot, but I have mixed feelings about this place. 9292 Shabu was a better experience for me a few days ago, but I still don't think it climbs up to 4 stars. 3.5 stars at best. They raised prices again (thank you inflation) and the people I ate with were visiting ATL, so they wanted to get the AYCE meat at $39.99. But to be fair, the weekday dinner price ($22.99 + a plate of prime beef $14.99 = $37.99) was just absolutely expensive and it would be only $2 more for AYCE so we said why not. Typically, I would just get the buffet and share one plate of meat since there's so many options in the salad bar. Some new things they added were naengmyun (cold noodles), different fried rice, and a variety of dishes in the buffet area. Food wise -- 9292 shabu actually has pretty good meat. Maybe because they get supplied with one of the biggest KBBQ restaurants, but it's usually a pretty solid quality, especially for AYCE. The naengmyn was not that good. The noodles were all bloated and I took one bite and did not eat the rest. I want to try their porridges next time for sure but I don't know if I can afford this anymore.. read more

So I made a reservation on Friday for 8 people today at 5:30 . Today is June 20, Father's Day. They seated us in one of the rooms and used on of the blinds that come down from the ceiling to separate us from the table seated next to us. Service was prompt and they have one of those buttons on the table so you can call someone if you need anything. It has been a while since I have been here. They have new broth now. I had the Mala broth - it is like a peppercorn taste. I think it's supposed to be slightly numbing maybe but it wasn't for me. As always, the meat and seafood and be ordered a la carte or you can get the all you can eat option. We opted for some squid and an order of beef and passed on the AYCE because if you get the buffet, it's more than enough. The buffet part of the meal is a hot bar with items like soup, fried rice, spicy rice cake, japchae, pasta with meat sauce and pasta with Alfredo (or a similar cream sauce?). Their fried rice is addictive. I always go back for a second plate. The rest of the buffet is various vegetables - a LOT, rice cakes, different kinds of noodles, dumplings, hot dogs, fish cakes, crab sticks and of course a make your own dipping sauce station. I always eat a lot when I go. My go to sauce is peanut sauce, sambal, a little chili oil, cilantro, garlic, a little fish sauce, a little soy sauce, a little sesame oil and hot pepper. But you can make as many combos as you like. There are so many different options. The Mala broth was tasty and the more stuff that was cooked in it, the more concentrated it became. My dad likes to go to the bar and get some sauces to add to his broth. Then he makes a separate dipping sauce. As for COVID they are providing everyone with gloves for when you are getting your food at the buffet area. The gloves are centrally located at the buffet. They ask that you wear a mask when you are around the buffet area with the gloves. Everyone seemed to be adhering to the rules. If anyone is a vegetarian this would be a great option. But if you are like me and love hot dogs and fried rice, this place is still a great option.
