My bf and I came during an early afternoon weekday an found the place somewhat empty. The lady that helped us was super friendly and only took a couple minutes to get us all set up. I love how they charge by the hour per player and not the game. We were able to play about 5 games prior to leaving haha. Oh, and the bathrooms are pretty dopeeee. It's not too high priced (compared to other Bay Area activities) and they have a good selection of drinks and bar food. The place gets decently filled towards the evening but mid Saturday afternoon, we were easily able to grab a table. Things to note: if you come to watch and not play, you still get charged. It's been sad that we keep losing all the pool halls in the last decade due to rising costs & COVID. This is one of the newest pool halls in the South Bay and we're really glad that it's part of the APA! My husband and I play in the local league so occasionally we will get to play here - I love that the place is new & there are many tables. Food menu is decent (but pricey of course) and the service is amazing! The tables are much faster here than other locations - know that when you "think" you hit soft, you can definitely hit "softer", LOL! I always have to constantly remind myself to finesse my shots on game nights. The only complaint I have is they can do better with allocating more table + sitting space all around. read more

Where have all the good pool halls in the South Bay gone? I've been relegated to playing on beaten up tables at local dive bars. On a Friday evening, my friends and I stroll in to kill some time before dinner and were pleased to have stumbled into 946. The deets: Parking-smaller lot but ample street parking along El Camino Real Ambience-music, generous amount of tv's, cool decor and murals Equipment-cloth is clean and tight...balls are polished and run well...cue sticks don't wobble when conducting the roll test Bar-huge granite slabs running down the center of the room. Lots of beers on tap to choose from. Didn't see any hard liquor Crowd-chill and respectful with no riffraff in sight Pricing-roughly $100 for 3 people to play 4 hours. That seemed a little step for me but I suppose it's a sign of the times. Blame in on the chip shortage, the Suez Canal or the a a a a a alcohol This is an extremely cool pool hall for enthusiasts and for those wanting to catch a ball game. I really hope that I get the attention of the general manager and understands how ridiculous my service was last night. I hope that instead of handling the situation (that wasn't my fault) like the worker I encountered yesterday, that the manager recognizes how inappropriate and over the line the their staff could be. Previously, I was a huge fan of this place. I've been here several times with friends and is a great place to practice pool, socialize, and grab a beer. So much so, that I was starting to come here and practice by myself because I loved the place this much. Great low-key vibes, plenty of television, quality tables, and *usually* welcoming staff. Until last night. I was with a friend and decided to play some pool on a Sunday night. Everything was going well until we were about finished and ready to pay our tab. For further background information, you have to put a card down under your name as a deposit before the start of a session. We approached a worker by the name of John, and said we would like to pay for our table. He then reached for the card organizer and he lost my card! I get it, I understand mistakes happen, but it's how he handled the situation that brought me to writing this review. Losing a card is not fun. Especially when I just replaced it and about to go out of state. More especially when it's in the hands of somebody you don't know. John displayed no sign of responsibility, remorse, and urgency. No apology for the inconvenience caused and was even smiling off this situation. Why is this funny? Why is my card misplaced? How did you potentially give my card out to another party my accident? When handling people's cards, it shouldn't be anywhere but the card organizer or the hands of the person that the card reads. His lack of apology and situation of the matter made me furious. While backtracking where he could've lost my card, he says, "So in the meantime, your bill is going to be 30 dollars." How about you find my card first? How about you try and make this right? Instead of looking for my card, his priority is to still shake me down for money *when he lost my card*. No compensation, just still looking to charge me full price when he lost my card and no way to pay him. John ends up asking for my name and phone number, which I then ask "What are you going to do with my name and number?". And then he responses, "So if I find your card, I'll be able to charge your tab and return it to you." Just the greed and lack of remorse disgusts me. He needs my contact information to not fix his mistakes, but to charge me for my table. Keep in mind that I didn't buy any drinks or rack up a ludicrous tab, my friend and I just played pool! He tells me that he'll call me if anything comes up and I immediately place a freeze on my debit card. The story is not over. I arrive back home, still fuming about this greed of this place, and receive a call while preparing to leave the state the next day. John says that he found my card and was eager for me to come back the same night (probably so I can pay off that tab that he's been obsessed over). And I was like great, I can't grab it anymore because I'm already home, far from Sunnyvale, and need to leave early the next day. And John said that he'll "hold it for me". While packing, I receive an email from my bank account that my card was just declined. Furious that John tried to charge my card while I'm not there or letting me know he was going to do so, I immediately called 946 Billiards and demanded an explanation. Why are you charging my card before even letting me know? John answered with "I was just checking...uhhh..." Checking that you can finally take my money and breathe again? So disgusting. They find my card and immediately try and charge me. I laughed when I saw my Wells Fargo account notify me. How about try and make things right before diving into my checking account? Couldn't even try and give it back before trying to charge me. I also have a screenshot to prove that John tried to charge my card before even returning it to me in my face. I'd like to say that there was another employee that apologized on behalf of John and it was only then that John apologized and not by his sole doing. The employee that was with John (I think he's a new hire) actually felt for my situation and was sorry. I'm severely disappointed because this place is really nice but John's greed and no sense of responsibility or customer service drives me away. I really want to come back, but until I feel like this situation is handled properly, me and my friends will be going to Lucky Shot Billiards. Final words, I understand that mistakes happen. But be mindful of your mistake and be responsible. I can understand John's avid tenacity to shake me down for money if me and my friend had 3 beers each, a pizza, and played for 3 hours. But me and my friend were there for less than two hours, didn't rack up a bar tab, on a night with plenty of open tables. C'mon man. read more

I've been playing at 946 as my home venue for APA league every Sunday night for nearly two years. It is very well kept, classy, and high quality. I'm not sure where most of their business comes from but I have to imagine APA is a large part of it. Edgies Billiards in Milpitas closed during the pandemic and that shifted a lot of APA business to 946. However, when Edgie's re-opens if certain things don't change they will see an exodus. The food is very expensive and not great for the money. Alcohol also expensive. The music is the same playlist every single time and has been since as far as I can remember. It's overly sanitized and impersonal, and APA folks want to feel a sense of being at home and catered to. When they feel this, they are more inclined to come on non-league nights to practice. More business. Suggestions: improve the menu if you're going to charge that much, or charge less. People will eat there (they used to at Edgie's all the time) but very few of us choose to because it's not worth it. Charge less for alcohol and people will drink more of it. APA is a good crowd, with good people. As long as I've been in league I've never seen rowdiness. You've GOT to get a TouchTunes in there. It's the standard, and makes being there so much more fun and fresh and adds a lot of personality. Think of your employees too. They don't like listening to the same playlist over and over and over again. Everyone will appreciate variety and personality. They will come more and stay longer. Lastly, you should really consider an APA discount on table time. Compared to other venues it's very expensive. I know you're trying to maintain a standard and a balance sheet. I'm telling you, if you make these changes you will stem the coming exodus. 946 is very convenient for many of us and we love that. But the above suggestions are not just my own - they are shared by many. Show that you care about your customers. If not, you're going to see a lot of APA business move to Edgie's when it reopens. Personally, I'd rather stay at 946 - but not without changes. TouchTunes would be the first best step in that direction. It will IMMEDIATELY show that you're listening. That said, if you'd rather not have APA there, leave things as they are. You clearly have a lot of other people that love your venue. OK, fun story about 946 Billiards. Home to visit my mom for Thanksgiving, and I soon became very tired of bickering between family members. I had a headache. I had to escape. The plan was to meet up with friends, have a few drinks, then do karaoke. Plans didn't go as planned. On my way to Mountain View from Cupertino, I travel down El Camino into Sunnyvale. I am willing to bet, at the point that I came to 946 El Camino, those were the bright lights that attracted my attention. Yeah, 946 Billiards! I quickly made a U-turn and drove into their parking lot. I was amazed at the quality of the environment and the sheer number of tables -23. Nine foot tables including a snooker table. They are looking to expand sometime in the near future, as well, for even more tables! So I played a brief time, to my absolute delight. The place just stands proud with quality. Tables and felt perfect! Waitresses fun and friendly. Plenty of choices for draft beer. The management and I had a great casual conversation and it felt like home. I wonder if I can get them to build a second hall nearer to me in Redding, Ca. Fat chance. I fully and enthusiastically recommend 946 Billiards to anyone that can appreciate a fine and fun venue to play your best games ever. Date nite for some... it's that good for a first date. The nicest, newest pool hall in the south bay and peninsula AFAIK. Place was busy and nice and air conditioned when I arrived. Tables have enough spacing between them so you're not bumping into other guests. Lots of pool sticks and a fair amount of beers on tap. Very reasonably priced at $18 per hour for 2 people. Lorenzo was working that day and was friendly and helpful. There aren't any other games like pinball or darts here, strictly a pool hall with flat screen TVs. I'm so excited for a late night billiards location! It's a bummer that this is more expensive from what I'm used to, but I guess support your small business (especially during/post COVID). It's a fun spot and they charge you per person despite who is playing or just speculating. Nonetheless, this place is always fun and hip for everyone of all ages and personalities. It is always clean too, which I appreciate. The staff is friendly, but also doesn't talk too much. They serve snacks/small portions of foods and a decent variety of drinks. Music is fun and has a good playlist going. The decor is fun and makes you want to stay longer to have fun. They welcome everyone. It is also interesting to see how they sanitize the pool balls on their machine. First time seeing it through a machine. It looks like a tiny washing machine or car wash. I was so glad to finally get a game of pool back in after all the mayhem of 2020 and what a great way to be reintroduced. The pool hall looked amazing with brand new tables, felt and sticks and the balls were rolling beautifully. My sister and I had a couple of beers on tap which were served ice cold and promptly. The workers were really diligent on keeping the place sanitized and were on top of their customers (including me =( haha) keeping their masks on which I appreciate. Place is nice and clean, owner is VERY nice but the one star is because of the food and the handling of the food that they sell. The small bags of chips and candy bars for sale were all expired. When ordering prepared food, I saw that he didn't wash his hands or use gloves when handing food to prepare such as nachos so needless to say, nothing we ordered was even touched let alone eaten.
