What an absolutely awful experience. I took off work to be there for the repair. They called the day of and said they couldn't make it and could I move my appointment to Wednesday. I agreed to accommodate them, even though I would again have to take off work. When they arrived they stated they would give me a good price to make up for their delay. Upon "completion" of the 20 minute repair which they said was the dryer element, they turned to me and said how much do you think the repair was worth? Really? Don't you have set rates? I have no idea how much the repair should cost. I was told normally it would cost $375, but they would knock off $100. I stated I thought that was seemed too high for 20 minutes worth of work. We finally agreed on $225+tax. Still seemed very high to me, but I needed a dryer. After they left, I looked up the part they replaced. Sure enough $40 part on literally every website I looked. So I am being charged $185 for 20 minutes of labor. That comes out to $555 an hour in labor. What is this guy a lawyer? So, I go to use the dryer for the first time since the repair and guess what still no heat. So, I called to tell them and they sent the same guy out to look again. He shows up and states it was not the element this time but was the timer. Really? I paid to have them repair the dryer and now it is a timer issue. Ok. Fine. I asked how much is the timer and he stated he would have to look it up. I told him about the $40 part I found online because I did not want to be screwed again. He stated, "well everything is cheaper on Amazon." So I tell him find out what the part costs and call me with the estimate. He said fine but I have to invoice you for today. Really? You are going to charge me to come out and look at my dryer that you overcharged me to fix in the first place and didn't even fix? I asked him to leave. There is no way I was going to pay him the $99 fee. Please do yourself a favor and never, I mean never use A-1 Appliance Service. They are completely unprofessional scam artists. read more

I called this company and the owner Jack came out to my house. They charge $99 for the service call, and if you decide to do the recommended repair, they apply that to the cost. My ice maker wasn't making ice. My brother was there with him, while I spoke to him over the phone. He said I needed to purchase a new motor. and quoted me $400+. I was hesitant to do so since I could buy a countertop ice maker for half the price. He told me to think about it over the weekend and let him know since he has to order the part. Friday night while researching the refrigerator online, I found a video that said the ice maker tends to go out due to the wires underneath the door getting ripped/torn every time you open the door. My brother spliced them back together and guess what? My ice maker now works. No new motor needed!! I tried calling the owner back the next day, Saturday, Monday, Wednesday, and then Thursday morning. He finally returned my call Thursday afternoon. When i explained to him the real issue, he said "great, glad your brother fixed it", then he got belligerent with me, and started talking over me. He said to call him if I ever needed help with anything else (obviously being sarcastic) I responded by saying that I would make sure to leave reviews so that the City of San Antonio could be aware of his fraudulent repair services. He then said he would sue me for defamation if I left him a bad review. Sir, you quoted me for a new motor that i did not need. You tried to say that that it's all one piece. LIES. I have used this company for years always friendly and very professional. When they send out the technicians they are professional and do a wonderful job. They've fixed my refrigerator when it wasn't cooling properly. Jack came and fixed it I haven't had any issues since. This year when my stove didn't heat I called they sent Tyler he fixed it with no problem. Both of the techs I have delt with have been friendly and helpful. Stay clear of this company. I had a horrible experience with them. I contacted a-1 appliance when my ice maker on my refrigerator/freezer stoppped working. Tyler came and diagnosed it as a water valve repair. He moved the refrigerator from the wall at this time, and then went into the freezer part through the front. After inspecting it he stated that it was a broken water valve. Tyler asked that I pay for the part up front-$250.00 and the balance would be due when he installed the part. He came back a few days later and replaced the water valve through the freezer compartment in the front. He did not move the refrigerator from the wall. I paid him the balance $193.22. The total of the deposit and balance for the water valve was $443.83. We left on a trip and returned after Xmas and the ice maker started doing exactly what it was doing before-a tray filled with ice not ice cubes. We called a-1 appliance and low and behold in fine print they only warranty parts for 60 days. The woman answering the phone said this was standard. I ended up contacting several companies who said that a water valve costs $50-$55. They also said they warranty parts for 90 days. I sent the receipt to three companies who said that I had totally been taken advantage of and heard this company was known for this. I picked one of the companies to do the repair. When they came out I explained what Tyler had done-going through the front of the ice maker to repair the water valve. They said not only was I overcharged but I was also hoodwinked. Why? Because you cannot fix the water valve from the front. You must fix it from the back. This new company believes that the lever was stuck in an uneven position. Tyler went up through the freezer and moved the lever to a level position allowing the ice tray to fill. The new company charged me $200 for a brand new icemaker and the install. That's right $200 to replace the whole unit and all the labor and tax and service charge. My experience with A-1 Appliance was so bad that I reported them. I am including a copy of my receipt as well so you can see for yourself. They offered a military discount, but declined to give it at time of payment. read more

I trust that this organization has undergone some significant changes as the horrendous reviews seen here range from 2013-2016. Excellent experience with A-1. The Bosch "Certified" technician we worked with first couldn't repair our ice maker after 3 visits, and 3 guesses as to what the cause of the problem was. Unbelievably, I've received a full refund for the unsuccessful repair service that spanned 12 weeks! In swoops Derek with A-1 Appliance Service. Within minutes he discovered the cause of the problem and returned the next day to install the part. Problem solved! What I appreciated most was Derek's willingness to visit in the late afternoon. For those of us that work, we all know how painful it can be to be out of the office for the day hoping the cable guy or repair company will show up. It cost a few hundred dollars, yes. Am I pissed off that my expensive Bosch refrigerator broke? Of course...But Derek communicated well, the appointment wasn't a chore to setup, and he even identified an equivalent Whirlpool part versus the more expensive Bosch branded alternative. This is the worst appliance service company. I was told I needed a new door lock and motor for my front load washer. $509. I was charged $74 just to come look at the machine. I got a second opinion for FREE and it had nothing to do with motor or door lock. The pressure switch was bad and ended up costing $100 total. But I am still out $74 on a service call for nothing. I used them once before for my Dryer which they repaired for $400 but left a dozen screws sitting on the floor and I still have no idea where they go. DO NOT RISK using this company! read more

I want to start this review out by stating that I had excellent quality of repairs from this company and all staff were extremely friendly. That's where the fun and happy times ended. A few of weeks ago I had an emergency repair that was needed on my washer. I called early in the morning and an appointment was set up that day. The service manager who came out was timely, friendly and very professional. He quickly diagnosed my problem and had it repaired in under 30 minutes. When it came time for payment I asked if he needed a credit card he said no, a check is fine. I went upstairs grabbed a check, filled it out and handed it to him. Thinking everything was fine, about a week and a half later I get a very loud banging on my front door. I work from home and so I didn't hear the knock right away. The banging continued. I went downstairs, open the door and there was the same service manager, this time with a much different demeanor. He quickly barked at me, asking what are we gonna do about this hot check you wrote us? Taken aback, I asked him what he meant? The check you wrote us was no good your bank said the account was closed. I was trying to reach you multiple times last night with no answer. This price me, as I hadn't had any phone calls from his company the night before. I even checked my call log and found no calls from his company and no messages left. After advising him of this, I said I'm happy to get this taken care of today. He said great, you'll need to get cash though. I asked what about a credit card, and he said I need you to pay cash. I responded that I would have to go to an ATM. He said that's great, but I'm going to follow you to make sure that we get paid. I drove to the closest ATM with my devoted repair man not far behind me. Took the cash out handed it to him and he then asked if there was anything else he can do to help. I replied everything was fine and went on my way. Now I'm not sure when private repair companies started employing the Gestapo as the repair technicians, but this was pretty disturbing. I easily could have given him my credit card number for him to call in over the phone and get this pay period to bang on my door and then essentially parade and intimidate me was completely unacceptable. After researching this further, I realized I had grabbed a check from a leftover box of checks from a closed account. Accidentally not grabbing a check from my existing account. Perhaps this is something that doesn't happens to most people, but it did happen to me. If I was trying to avoid paying, clearly I wouldn't have gone to get the cash out, or offered to give my credit card number two different times. I do want to say again that initially A timely booking at the appointment, how fast the service manager came out and the quality of the repair were absolutely fantastic. Everything else is extremely disturbing causing me to write a rare negative review. Had I not already tried to resolve this with this company to no avail, I would not have had to resort to publicly making everyone aware. read more

I should have got the hint when I called the office. I felt like I was bothering the lady who answered the phone. I made my appointment. When the tech arrived, he was totally clueless and rude. He asked about the water line for the fridge and I told him it is under the sink. He couldn't find it. I asked if water was coming out and he said I'm not a plumber. WTF! It when downhill from there. I finally asked him to leave. 30 minutes later he still had no clue what to do. My wife suggested a few things and he went off on her. She told him to leave. I have one thing good to say - the freezer did get fixed. They took 10 minutes of their time, a $17 part and charges me $280.69 for a broken defrost timer. Of course, had we said that was too much we'd have been out the $75 for the call and the contents of the freezer would have continued to thaw so we agreed to it. When my husband realized how cheap the part was, he even very nicely called and asked to speak with the owner so he could better understand the charge. The technician, not the owner called back and told him that's just how they charge. So again, it is fixed but I would only call them if you enjoy being gouged. read more

I had Tyler come to my house to look at my dryer, dryer turned on but couldn't start. He stated it was Start motor, stated it would take a week to get start motor, I said yes and moved forward. I have 3 kids and had to start drying at Laundry mat. Then Tyler calls me and tells me he was mistaken and it will take a month to get this part. I said okay and stuck with waiting... he ends up coming my home a little sooner with part which was great. He called and I met him at my house with no hesitation. He comes and takes dryer apart and finds out it was not the starter and it was the control board.. stated it was going to be about $600, even more pricer. I ended up declining and buying a new dryer. Just don't understand how he got the piece wrong and still charged me fee of coming to my house knowing the inconvenience this has caused me and left me with no fix, weeks of waiting patiently. He apologized but no solution of saying I will just waived fee completely because I went forward with him and waited. He even said no point to contact office because he was the manager. I called to have our Whirlpool oven repaired. I was told repair technician would arrive between 9-1 on Saturday and the fee would be 59 but would be waived if they repaired the oven. Well the technician didn't arrive until 2:40 with no explanation or apology. He looked at the oven and explained what would need to be replaced to repair the oven. However, to give me a quote he had to call on Monday morning. No problem. He then told me I would need to pay 69 for the service fee. I simply questioned the price as I had been quoted 59 - well his entire demeanor changed and he demanded payment. I asked him to wait while I called the office. I reached someone at office who was even more rude and told me it was my problem that THEIR office misquoted the price and he didn't care that they were almost 2 hours late!! I paid the 69 and asked again when to expect a call regarding the quote. By 9 am Monday. After the technician left I realized he left my built in oven in pieces. Even worse, he left my outdoor fuse box WIDE OPEN WITH THE HINGES OFF AND LAYING IN MY GRASS!!! I will report this to CPS as it is dangerous to have an outdoor electrical box left open for anyone to be able to tamper with. After that I googled the part needed for repair (with the part # as my oven wasn't even put back together!) I wanted to know the price so I had a reference for comparison with their quote. I found the part in less than 5 minutes. Monday I got no phone call. I finally called at 2 pm. Steve returned my call and said the part necessary had been discontinued in 2011. I know this was a blatant lie because I found the part myself at a repair store in Austin. Do not use this repair service. They are not honest. If I could give ZERO stars I would. To begin with, this man was rude to my husband, telling him in a snarky voice "I am not a plumber." Then, when he tried to blame all our issues on the water filter and I had to suggest he do a couple other things to get the water running through the fridge so we could address the real problem, he decided he was not going to further explore the reason we called him (which was a leaking ice maker). Naturally, I had many questions, because we still had not addressed the reason we called for the repair in the first place. His response to me: "WELL, WHY DON'T YOU COME OVER HERE AND DO MY JOB FOR ME. YOU SEEM TO KNOW ALL THE ANSWERS. I JUST EXPLAINED EVERYTHING TO YOU." Needless to say, I was shocked. When I called him out on his attitude, he said "maybe I should just leave." Damn right you should leave! I truly have never experienced such incompetence coupled with such rudeness. I gave it a one star because I was unable to give it no stars. We were quoted $75 diagnostic fee and then were later charged $80. The $5 difference would have been no big deal except that my washer is still broken after the technician diagnosed our problem. We did exactly what he told us to do and it was incorrect. We attempted to get him back out to our house and he was unwilling unless we paid another diagnostic/trip fee. We attempted to contact the owner, but was unable to reach him. NO ONE in their establishment would allow us to speak with a manager or the owner. Now I am out $80 for the "diagnostics" and $100 for the part and I still have a broken washing machine. I would not recommend this company. Our refrigerator stopped making ice & A-1 sent Steve. They informed me of the $95 trip fee, which I accepted. Steve arrived late, very short and rude attitude. I was asking questions & he was rude and not polite to try to answer questions. We discovered mold around ice dispenser when the icemaker stopped and asked if he could provide service to clean to which he responded "We don't do that" I asked how could we safely take it apart to clean it. He said "Leave it." Not caring that our health was in jeopardy if we didn't get the mold out should have been enough to ask him to leave, but he quickly opened freezer removed panel ignoring me, looked at ice maker literally less than 2 seconds & said "Yes you need a new ice maker". Without taking it out, without examining it, without checking any other connection or switches or water line. Told us he couldn't come back until next day. Arrived several hours late again. Changed out icemaker assembly in 5 minutes. Said "It hasn't filled with water yet but I 'guess' it will" Then charged $475. 5 days later still no ice & was not about to call this company again. So I found & called CNSC Appliance Repair yesterday, they came this morning, on time, and did an actual diagnostic check that we didn't get with A-1. The REAL problem ended up being a broken wire in the electrical connections in door. Only $89 repair in about 40 minutes. Within a few hours we had ice again. Expensive lesson. I should have made Steve leave and not allow him to continue with such rude, dismissive behavior. I hope at least by sharing my experience I might save someone else the expense, inconvenience, and unpleasant experience we had. read more

I paid for a Refrigerator to be repaired that took Ken all of 15-20 minutes to fix. He charged me $530 total. A new GE Main Control /PCB board assembly cost approximately $120 off amazon for a new GE component. So, $85 dollars for labor, $120 for the part and $325 overhead. I will not user or recommend this service. They probably charge everyone a 260% upcharge on parts. read more

Our experience with this company could and should have been much better than it was. We called them to come out and repair our washing machine due to a leak. Ashley answered the phone and had the technician, Derek, out there that day. He looked at the back of the washer, said the valves were leaking and that he would order them and have them replaced within 1-2 days. This took all of 10 minutes. He comes back in 2 days, spends 10 minutes putting them on, charges me $325, and leaves. We still have a leak. I called him to come back out, he starts the washer again, and then points to the drain line and says, "there's your problem, looks like a clogged drain, you should call a plumber." Seriously? The answer from the company that took our money to fix the leak, told us its our problem, not theirs. So we start wondering what we paid $325 for. We call the office, speak to Ashley, and she offers to refund our money back onto our credit card, however, we paid by check, so she said she would get with the owner, Jack, to see how he wanted to handle it. 6 WEEKS PASS where we call every week to get an answer on how they want to handle it. We were very cordial, did not get irate on the phone, just patiently waited for the owner to get back to us, as was TOLD TO US by Ashley. Finally, I speak to another person named Michelle, tell her the situation, and she says she'll pass along the information. That same day, I receive a confrontational call from the technician, Derek, stating that we were not getting a refund, our valves were leaking, and that there was not going to be any refund of any sort. I asked him to calm down, as we were not trying to get something for nothing, we were just following up with what was TOLD TO US by his company. Now why would Derek be the one calling us, angrily, and not the owner? Why would Ashley repeatedly tell us that the owner was given the message and we never received a follow up from the small business owner? Why would we be told we were getting a refund and then never receive contact? Why would we call every week on something that was not going to happen? This company represents a poor excuse of the how a small business should operate. The owner either does not care how his customers are treated or he (Jack) does not know. Either way, horrible customer service and would not recommend this company to anyone. read more

We called A-1 Appliance Service to fix our ovens fan. The tech was able to come the same day which really pleased us. He was very friendly and helpful and told us things about our ovens that we didn't know. The oven fan was fixed that same day with only a minimal charge. The tech was able to spray a product on the fan and it was done! No more howling oven fan every time we heat it up. We thought we would have to pay for a new part and labor and after it was fixed we wish we would have called A-1 Appliance sooner. read more
