This is the first time my husband and I had to use a Lawnmower service. We decided to go with a son and pop shop to help out small businesses, since we our in the same category ourselves! We are so glad we did. Patrick was attentive and listened to our needs. He set up a time to drop off our lawnmower and he let us know whether he was able to fix it or not. He stated he would not charge us if it couldn't be fixed. This was very noble of him, considering we both lost our jobs ( and all our income) over Covid-19. :( He called us back in a few days from dropping it off and told us he did all the tune up and fixed the issue. His charge was very reasonable. Great service! Lawnmower works like a charm! A-1 Lawnmower Shop Repair Service is only one of a couple of places in the Vancouver metro area that sharpens reel mowers. My service for my reel mower was a sharpening for $35 (very reasonable). In early October it was ready in 7 days for pick up. The blades are now cutting cleaner and better than ever. Patrick, the owner and one doing the work, was very responsive and kind with communication over the phone and in person. I will definitely be coming back yearly for my service needs. read more

I have gone to Patrick several times over the years as we have a few properties so several different lawn mowers. He is the BEST. He is honest and charges a very fair price. I wanted a pre-spring tune-up for my mower. I searched and read several company's reviews. A-1 and Patrick's reviews are spot on - excellent. He called me back several times to schedule a time for drop off. Amazing prices, excellent service and a real pleasure to do business with. His business is a small home located shop - but BOY am I glad I went there. Other larger businesses were slow and very unpleasant to deal with. A-1 was wonderful, fast, and excellent. Excellent service! Super nice guy. I went in knowing very little about my machine and Patrick was patient and helpful. My tiller wasn't what Patrick usually works on (he specializes on lawnmowers) so he started to recommend another place... He looked at my machine anyways, sorted out the problem AND he didn't charge me a penny since it was a very simple fix that didn't require disassembly. All in all seems to be a pretty good operation per his reviews, I didn't get a chance to try him out, because he's overloaded with work to the extent he can't take new business right now. I had to go with my 2nd choice and am still out two weeks. (this is peak time right now) I would suggest calling first to make sure he's taking work. I have a 10 year old, 32cc Craftsman edger. $275 when new. It's been well cared for and always maintained with regular air filter cleaning, premium gas and good spark plugs. A couple months ago the edger would start and idle but not accelerate. I had a feeling it only needed some carburetor cleaning. Patrick diagnosed the issue in a couple minutes. One week later he had it all cleaned and adjusted. It runs and works like it did when I bought it. Patrick charged me $30, which I felt was a great price. To give you some perspective, initially, I took the edger to Roy Boy's in Tigard. They (ponytail - man child) were extremely rude and condescending to my wife. They said it would be at least three weeks and cost a minimum of $80. After 3 weeks and no call, I called and was told the piston was "gummed up" and it would cost more than the edger was worth to fix it. They said the "inspection fee" would be $20, but, if I just wanted to leave them the edger for recycling they'd waive the fee. I'll go back to Patrick with my business and I would definitely recommend him. Good Luck read more

My lawn mower was spewing white smoke and this was happening after I had taken it in to Sears in November. I could see it was doing the same thing again and even though I was covered under warranty, I didn't want to drag my lawn mower back and have it do the same thing again after I received it. I spoke to the owner and he was so very nice. He asked a few questions and diagnosed the problem. I had overfilled the oil well. He told me to dump the oil and yippppeee, it worked. If I have a real problem with my mower, A-1 is where I'm taking it. read more

All these reviews are spot on. Great service at a very reasonable price. In my case, I have a 10 year old mower where the blade became free spinning after I hit a large rock. I tried to repair it myself only to make things worse to the point where mower wouldn't even start. I took it to A-1 and they repaired it, changed the oil and sharpened the blade for a great price. Our lawnmower needs service. My husband called both numbers for this business and left the required voice mails. I know it is a challenging time, but I don't understand why a business wouldn't at least get back to you and acknowledge receipt of the voicemail, even if to say, "Hey, we're too busy for any more business right now," or "We're sick or on vacation or something." Totally understand being swamped with business, but there should be some process in place to inform or respond to inquiries. read more

I am so glad I made an appointment to see Patrick. He was kind enough to look at my Craftsman lawn mower that was apparently clogged up with old gas. He took not even 5-10 mins to fix it. He saved me so much time. He seems to know his stuff and is friendly and humble. I also learned what to do next time I have a similar problem. wow! i loVe this place! my new-ish lawnmower wouldn't start. i dreaded taking it somewhere for fear that a.) it would cost an arm and a leg to fix it, and b.) i would be made to feel like an idiot because i know nothing about lawnmowers, plus i was doing everything wrong...using old gas, maybe not putting enough oil in, and beating that mower to h*ll in high, wet grass. i took my simple little mower to A-1, ten minutes before they closed. i immediately felt welcomed as the guys took the mower out of my truck to take a look. they cleaned out the carburetor and filter, added some oil, loaded the mower back into my truck, and sent me on my way....all for $20. now it runs like a dream! if you are having any kind of mower problem, don't hesitate to take it to A-1! read more

Last weekend my husband over-filled the lawnmower with oil and it started blowing white smoke. We thought we blew a seal. He called another repair shop and they wanted $100 just to look at it. I suggested my husband call A-1 after reading all of the great reviews. Patrick said it probably just needed to be drained of some of the oil and explained to my husband how to do it rather than having him bring it in.
