I am writing as a deeply concerned and frustrated potential customer who has experienced an unacceptable series of failures by your organization. On 10/13, I spoke with Christina to schedule a fireplace cleaning appointment for a date shortly after our call, with an arrival window of 8:00-11:00 AM. During that same call, I requested that a supervisor contact me regarding additional questions. No one from management ever returned that call. On the day of the appointment, the technician never arrived. At 10:00 AM, I contacted Jeffrey, who informed me the technician was running late and would arrive in the afternoon. No one showed up that afternoon either. When I spoke with Jeffrey again, I provided my address a second time. He then sent a confirmation notification containing the wrong address and even the wrong city. I called back once more to correct the information so the technician could locate my home. Despite all of this, no technician arrived at any point that day. At 4:00 PM, a customer service representative called to inform me that the technician "had something to do with his wife." This explanation was completely unprofessional and unacceptable. I demanded an immediate call from a manager. No one contacted me. To this day, I have still not received a single follow‑up call from any member of management. Adding insult to injury, I began receiving text messages a few days later offering to reschedule the fireplace cleaning. I made it clear that, given the severe inconvenience and complete lack of service, the cleaning should be provided at no charge. I received no response. This entire experience is a clear example of extremely poor customer service, a lack of basic professionalism, and an absence of any meaningful management oversight. Despite multiple requests, not one manager has contacted me. Based on the conduct I have witnessed, I cannot recommend this company to anyone. If these practices continue, it is difficult to see how this organization will remain in business. read more

One star, despite getting a good price of $50 to replace a window screen, and $299 for inspect and clean chimeny, I expected to clean the chimney area, meant inside chimney and at base of chimney or anything in contact with chimney. Alex went up to the roof but did not clean away the debris up against the chimney, he took pictures but did not clean up the debris. I paid $100 for sealing the cracks in the chimney box and he did a good job with that. The inspection on the outside is where things get quite questionable, Alex advised they would fax me back and estimate of any additonal work. The estimate is for $1007. The report lists the condition of my Chimney report as "unsatisfactory" It also says the note is d/t the exit set up of the chimney, but that is not explained. further down in the estimate. Then below are 3 items for remediation. Repair to cap arrestor is noted as "rusted" needs prime and paint, then next box says " preventative" and " fire hazard", $259., the next is Chase cover " rusted or discolored, needs prime/paint, says "preventative" $399., for the base of chimney says " flashing - water issues - install diverter next box says preventative - gives the code that lists water diverter or cricket. The pictures do not show any rust on the cap arrestor nor the chase cover only soot, and the discoloration is dirty water on top d/t it had just rained. The base of the chimney picture is covered with debris that alex did not remove before he took the picture which means he did not actually look to see if flashing was below the tile, nor did he see that there was flashing there w/ a water diverter that had been installed by my roofer in July last year. It can be seen in the picture zooming to the R. The quote says w/ the code either water diverter OR cricket, but when you talk to them they say well its better with both. When asked about the estimate they sell you that its all legitimate work but then say, estimate does say preventative however, estimate also says condition of chimney is "unsatisfactory". If this is work that is not necessary at this time estimate should say currently satisfactory, just because it could be better does not mean its necessary. I would even beg to differ that since they did not remove the debris at the base of the chimney, not only is the inspection of that area invalid, it is also incomplete work because he failed to " clean the chimney area". I have talked to them at length about the report and they justify the "type of work is code work" but not really necessary to my house today. They dont come right out and say, this all might be things you should do in the near future to be proactive. The cost of just priming and painting, per my brother in law who is a contracter said thats an hour job and they want to charge you $700 then wondered why for the cost they would not just replace the cap arrestor for that price? Since I did have roof work done by a licensed contractor in July I will be reaching out to him for his comments and follow them up here. Used tarp to protect floors. Used extreme care in my home. Carried large vac in. Outside he went on roof and full inspection. Pictures were fab. Went thru one by one. They are emailed post appt. Their ad warns you to beware, and so you should-- of THEM. I received an estimate for extensive firebox/chimney repairs to a rental property amounting to almost $5,000. The estimate consisted of a narrative and detailed photos of the areas requiring remediation, a costly mess to be sure; but, upon my personal inspection of the firebox area, lo and behold the photos were of some other chimney, not mine. OMG, we're so sorry, what a misunderstanding, how could this have happened, we take matters like this very seriously, heads will roll!! These guys should go into politics, this is an increasingly common tactic used by unscrupulous vendors to scare customers into paying big bucks for unnecessary work, with little risk of discovery. I have seen this also with fast-buck plumbers, roofers and other tradesmen where the work site is hard to access, and thus very hard to confirm by consumers. Greed takes many forms, and we are all potential victims. Don't be a victim, go with your suspicions always solicit at least two bids. This is the only way to inspire ethical behavior from dishonest vendors. I am looking forward to reading their "OMG, we're so sorry, how could this have happened!!" response. read more

I called in for a dryer vent cleaning and was greeted by a knowledgeable gentleman who said he could arrange for one of his technicians to come by the house and figure out the best way to clean my vent. I was able to get an appointment 4 days from when I called. He gave me a 4 hour window and expect a call when the tech would be on the way to my house. Boom it all worked out as described. I was pleasently greeted by Jeremy one of the A1 senior service team members. He got right to it, assessed the situation, explained the issues and how he was going to clean it. He cleaned the entire run and even cleaned out all around my dryer. He reconnected everything and left the areas he worked in cleaner than when he started. I called A-1 Chimney Inc. to get a Certified Safety Inspection for my Chimney because the Home Inspection Report for my newly purchased home recommended that I get one. I agreed to the $249.99 cost for a technician to come out in a day or two. I thought that was pretty great. However, the experience didn't end as I had expected, because I never received a Certified Safety Inspection for my Chimney. In fact, A-1 Chimney Inc. does not offer a Certified Safety Inspection for Chimney's. So, the guy on the phone either misunderstood, mislead, or straight up lied to me. Instead I got a "Job Receipt" telling me that A-1 Chimney Inc. only offers "Level 1" visual opinions. They do NOT offer the more qualified "Level 2" or "Level 3" safety certifications. It says all this on the job receipt itself (see pictures). I'm not even sure if the technician cleaned anything since he was done super quick. Finally, A-1 Chimney Inc. emailed me a ridiculous estimate to paint a rusty Chimney Chase Cover ($399), replace an undersized Storm Collar ($279), replace Firebox Panels ($499 + $299) and replace a Spark Screen ($249). That's almost $1,725 in "chimney repairs" that require a WAIVER and "little to no guarantees or warranties" (see pictures). I could have bought a fireplace insert and stainless steel Chase Cover and Storm Collar for way less on Amazon. I will be contacting the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA) and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 211 to find a better company that will give me a Certified Safety Inspection for my Chimney. read more

The day of the appointment, Jeremy and Alex called ahead of time and showed up within the window I was given. They were very safe, considerate and professional. Jeremy was knowledgeable and gave a lot of advice on how to maintain both the chimney and dryer duct moving forward. He was clear in his explanations and patient in handling all my questions. Super impressed. I messaged them on Tuesday night at 7 PM. By Wednesday morning they wrote back and we scheduled a visit for Thursday afternoon. That's quick. The tech, Austin, called and texted about a half hour before arriving which was greatly appreciated. He was very nice, explained everything, answered questions, wore a mask, and did a great job. He cleaned my dryer inside and out, plus the duct all the way outside of the house. There was a ton of lint inside there after about 20 years of neglect. He also cleaned the fireplace quite well, and suggested a bit of work I could do myself to repair a tiny fracture in the concrete. He cleaned up well after himself, put everything back, etc. Great job. We got an awesome repair tech! One star for him! The office staff is terrible, however. Mario didn't return my calls for over a week. When I continued to call the following week, an employee told me that Mario had been out sick for over a week. Um, don't you think you should TELL PEOPLE THAT when they call for him? And don't you think perhaps ANOTHER employee should return his calls, since he is out very sick for over a week? The worst experience I had was when Martin scheduled a time with me, and then he sent the tech THREE HOURS earlier. Then their office called to see why I was not at home! What? I reminded them of the scheduled appointment time. The man said "Oh we had a cancellation, so I moved you up". I was shocked. "You didn't think once to call ME, the paying customer, to see if this new time would work for ME?" Nope. And when the tech arrived later - he had not been told what happened. My dryer duct was very clogged and needed cleaning ASAP. I was able to schedule an appointment within a day of my first call. Austin arrived on time wearing a mask. He was very friendly and got right to work. The duct had years worth of buildup which made the cleaning more difficult than usual. However, Austin managed to get it cleared out fairly quickly. He also did great cleaning up after the job. I have already recommended this company to a friend. I will be using them again. read more

I will preface this review by saying we did not actually use their service. I called originally wanting to get our fireplace insert and chimney cleaned and inspected. Once speaking with the representative, I was unsure if our insert was lined or unlined which made a difference in the pricing as well as whether they send out two technicians or one ($399 for lined and $599 for unlined). So I told them that I would hold off on scheduling until after we had the home inspection. The home inspector proceeded to tell us that it was lined, so I made the appointment based off of it being lined and the price was supposed to be $399. The technician got there and told me that it was in fact not lined and that I would need to call and make an appointment for a two-man team since it was unlined. They proceeded to call me the following day to make the appointment, and told me that it was going to be $799 in the message they left me. I called back today in order to ask why the price had jumped $200, and I was told that the price for them to come out would be $999. When I asked why there was such discrepancies in prices and how the first time I called it was $599. Second phone call I got was $799 and now I was being told $999, I was told that he wasn't sure who told me $599, and that they had already been out to our property once and weren't able to complete the service due to misinformation. I politely explained to him that I was also misinformed from our home inspector and i don't feel like I should be getting dinged for also receiving the wrong information. After 10+ years of not having our chimney and dryer vents inspected or cleaned, we noticed our dryer was taking longer to dry clothes and the fireplace would cause our room to become smokey. I requested quotes from many companies in the area and although they were not the "cheapest," I felt compelled after talking with Martin on the phone. Martin was so helpful, knowledgeable and personable that I could not help but have them perform the two services. Joel and another associate (I'm sorry I forgot his name) came today and performed a terrific job. They were professional, efficient and very informative. They wore masks and shoe covering which is really appreciated especially nowadays (covid). They took pics of their work and were honest about what needed to be done without being persistent. I also got a quote for their gutter services and a couple of upgrades to the fireplace and will hopefully be calling them back to schedule that. This is a great company. When I called, I got an intelligent, friendly person on the phone right away (and during subsequent calls). They listened carefully to my problem and quoted a cheaper price than the other two companies I'd already tried. They set me up with an appointment earlier than I'd hoped for. On the appointment day, the technician called ahead to make sure we were home, and then arrived exactly when he said he would. He was courteous and friendly, and explained what he was doing. He found we didn't need all the work we'd asked for, and charged less. On the follow-up appointment, a second technician also arrived exactly on time and was just as friendly and professional. So far, so good! A-1 Chimney cleaned my chimney in December right before Christmas. The man who came out, Justin, was very polite and knowledgeable. Justin inspected the top of the chimney first and even brought me pictures to show me some of the issues I'm having at the top (primarily some wood damage). He brought a huge vacuum cleaner into the house, used a tarp, and vacuumed out the fireplace area. He pointed out a crack in the floor and the back of my chimney. I had known about this crack, but had been told previously that it would probably cost upwards of $300 to fix it. Justin suggested sealing it for $40. He told me that this is probably a temporary solution, but that it should last for a number of years since I rarely use my fireplace. Overall, Justin seemed honest, and didn't want to charge me for a lot of extra things that I could do myself, and left the place clean. My only complaint is that the fireplace is still smoking a little more than I would like. I'm not sure why this is, and it may have nothing to do with A-1 Chimney. Full disclosure: A-1 Chimney has asked some of their customers to write reviews for compensation. However, they do not dictate whether these reviews need to be positive or negative. I don't blame them since reviews online help local businesses, and sometimes negative reviews outweigh positive reviews simply because those of us with good experiences don't take the time to write about them. :-) read more

Pros: Nice people and showed up on time. Cons: They did not show up with a long enough ladder, They couldn't reach the chimney . So the reason for the one star is what they did next. I asked if they would be calling out for a longer ladder. They said no they did not have time. That was not cool . So I ask when they would do the work? The guy says they will call me to reschedule . They never called. On top of that he said it would be a $100 more on top of what they quoted because it was a longer ladder. I was like what? Why are you charging me more ? Terrible customer service. I scheduled an appointment for dryer vent and gutter cleaning. I was told the tech would be out between 8AM and 12 PM and that they would call at least 15 minutes prior to their arrival. I have a large dog that I need to put up. No body showed up or called. I called the office just before noon and at first they hung up. No big deal I called back and spoke to Kim who told me they had someone call in so they are behind. I told Kim that someone should have called to let me know as I have been waiting for 4 hours. Her response was no that isn't necessary (are you kidding). I did not get the best service. They rescheduled me then arrived 4 hours late. Needed bat poop cleaned so paid the 2X up charge extra.Only 15 min of wire brushing then cleaning. My floor was so dirty that I needed to vacuum and white poop still on lower area. BEWARE. read more

She finally gave me the go ahead so I contacted the local company. They gave me the run around (read my previous review) so I decided to try a different company. I found A1 here on Yelp and gave them a call. Explained my situation and frustrations with the previous company and that I just wanted to get this project done! I had already picked out the insert I wanted and their representative, Martin, told me they could get it. Awesome! I felt relieved knowing this project was finally getting started! Well, 3 weeks later and multiple emails back and forth and still no price or insert! Talk about frustrating! I got the feeling they just didn't want my money!
