I had everything I own stolen from two separate units…read more I stored my belongings here for over 20 years, paying roughly $40-50k over that time. In the end, about $50,000 worth of my property was stolen from my two units, including irreplaceable items from my late father and grandparents, original artwork, and a career's worth of work samples (50+ snowboards). Their cameras only cover the outside of the buildings. Other storage facilities advertise interior cameras as a safety feature; this one doesn't have any. The front gate regularly allows multiple cars to pass through with one code entry, and the building doors themselves don't require an entry code or are usually propped open - essentially, anyone can enter the property and the buildings with zero verification that they should be there. Their website and payment system make you re-enter your payment information after you've already entered it and clicked confirm. I spoke to them about this numerous times, explaining that it's confusing; no retailer ever makes you reconfirm a purchase. Their response was that they didn't want people double-charged. I'd much rather be double-charged than robbed blind. Read into this however you like, but only my wife, myself, and their staff knew I had these units. I generally came midweek/mid-day and was careful not to leave anything of visible value in the hallways. My units were across the building from each other, and there was no obvious way for someone to know which units to target. My theory - and the detective on my case agreed it was plausible - is that I forgot to confirm my payment on their website one time, sending my unit(s) to pre-lien status. I paid the moment I got the notice, but the damage seems to have already been done. The thieves went through every single box in one unit, but stopped a third of the way through the other, leaving thousands of dollars of stuff untouched. Why? It's almost like they were told to stop for some reason. Maybe after a payment was made? When I reported my theft to the front desk, one employee was genuinely shaken, but the manager had an unmistakable "oh, sh**" look and showed zero surprise that I'd been robbed. To make it worse: insurance requires receipts and proof of ownership for decades-old belongings, much of it from people no longer alive to help me prove what I owned - capped at $5,000 on a $50,000 loss. Two decades of trust, gone. The place looks nice, but not everyone has a nice experience. I left one star, I wish I could leave less.

They have a moisture problem. Both elevators on my side I need to get to my unit are broken and could not get up to my unit. So it's not ADA compliant. They also do not have carts for you to use. They also have been playing a fun little game charging us $12 for not receiving my proof of renters insurance which I have provided multiple times. This facility is ran so poorly. Your stuff gets so dirty and they could care less to take care of their property. We are planning to get out as soon as possible. Even though I informed management right away they didn't fix the drywall nor did they call an exterminator. I was forced to buy mice traps and mice deterrent boxes. The results were disgusting, lots of mice were caught on the sticky traps. The negligence of this property is just beyond words. They shouldn't have rented the units to me in the condition they are. The drywall is falling apart providing an entry point, the units weren't even cleaned properly although they claimed they cleaned them, the facility is infested with mice and poorly maintained. On top of that they double the rates every 3 months for what?? The units are falling apart, dilapidated, dark and dingy; it's a very old facility with very little upgrades. I would strongly advise against storing anything at this facility because I can't stress enough that the entire facility is infested with mice which is a health hazard; mice carry hantavirus and the plague. I am assuming that all my belongings are going to be damaged due to this. This is god awful for anyone to go through. There isn't anything positive I can say here. I spent thousands moving my stuff into this storage facility.

They really only gave me that deal for the first month, We finally decided to move out after receiving yet another rent increase -- three increases in less than two years is honestly ridiculous. It felt like every time we turned around, the price was going up again. On top of that, basic convenience was an issue. The trash and recycling bins are consistently locked, which makes no sense when you're actively paying for a unit. If I'm renting space there, I should be able to throw away small amounts of trash without it turning into a whole ordeal. The customer service was the final straw. When I went to clear out my unit on 3/21/26, I brought a small bag of trash (just hangers, dryer sheets, etc.). I walked into the office and was immediately met with a rude, dismissive attitude. The employee looked annoyed from the start, questioned me about what was in the bag, and made the whole interaction unnecessarily uncomfortable. It didn't feel professional at all. Overall, between the constant price increases, lack of basic access, and poor customer service, this place just isn't worth it. I'm relieved to be out and would not recommend renting here.

First of all I want to express how thankful I am for The Rock Movers…read more Being a full-service moving company, I needed someone to help me pack AND move due to a recent injury crippling me right before I was scheduled to move. Their reliability and ease of setting up the packing and move when I was not even able to be present and the timing was truly helpful. It was more expensive than I had ever paid for movers, even without the packing, and that's honestly why I could not give them full 5 stars. As a military member going through an honorable discharge to help my family in crisis while already injured myself, I had to empty out my own savings and my children's I had saved up over a 9-month deployment in the combat zone to move back to my family when they needed my help, not even sure if I could then provide for them. So while I really thank them for the job they did, I never financially recovered from that and I do ask Rock Movers to consider the vets or military members in San Diego and to complete a weight estimate for them to be reimbursed.

I am not one to write reviews, but I am left feeling compelled to do so after doing business with this company. I First and foremost, I want to give a GIANT shout out to Billy (1783 Oceanside Blvd. location). He was by far one of the friendliest and helpful representatives I have ever had the pleasure of doing business with. I have used many storage facilities in my day, and this one is, by far, one of the most user-friendly places I've been to. We are new to the area and in dire need of some extra space. Public storage was one of my options, but, I have used them in the past and find them to be a little unfriendly and not particularly straight forward with their rates - in comes A-1 storage. Not only are their rates comparable (if not better) to other competing storage facilities, from the start, they were considerably friendly, both over the phone and in person, and upfront about all of their rates, rules, and regulations. Billy is so authentic and personable, I could not imagine anyone feeling unwanted when walking through those doors. Not once did we feel rushed when going over the unit and paperwork; Billy was patient and thorough every step of the way. I would highly recommend to anyone who is looking for an inexpensive, neighborly, and secure facility to look after their belongings. read more

I stored a car here for about half a year. Tracy was extremely helpful and friendly throughout, and other staff members were helpful as well. When I rented the space, though, I didn't realize how important A-1's customer service would become. As part of an estate distribution, I had to ship that car out of state. Auto shippers generally won't commit to pickup at a particular time and date. Since I live far from A-1, traveling to San Diego County and staying there for several days to wait for pickup would have been really expensive. However, A-1 was willing to hold the keys, sign the documents for the shipper and release the car to the shipper, with relatively simple arrangements and paperwork on my end. The shipper said I was lucky because not all storage places will do this. Everything went fine and I saved a lot of money and time. read more

I have found them to be very professional, kind and caring. I encourage others to store at this facility or any of them. My mother currently stores at one of their facilities in La Mesa, and she says it's the cleanest facility she has ever stored at. Tracy and I figured out, that it has been over 10 years, that I have had my belongings in the storage unit. Nothing seemed to be missing, and when the time finally came to purge the unit. There was a recommendation that was totally awesome and came at the perfect time for me. Hope you don't mind, from time to time if I call just to rattle off my unit number. These guys REALLY helped my fiance and I when we got kicked out of our place a couple days ago. I have very little money, and yet they were able to give me a big enough unit for all of our things, and have plenty of extra space to organize everything easily. Their employees were really respectful, polite, and didnt make me feel rushed or pressured to get a unit. Overall, I'd have have to say they made a very depressing situation much easier to handle. I have used this company many times with deployments and pcs moving. Their customer service is great and the prices are reasonable. Spaces are always avialable and they haveany different sizes to fit what ever you need. I have 4 bedroom house and needed a larger spaceand got a 8x20 for a pretty good price. We had our stuff stored in this facility during my husband's deployment and they decided to let a known hoarder rent a unit next to ours. The hoarder brought in rats which got into our storage and ruined all of our furniture and mattresses. I was told the insurance we had for our stuff would cover all of the damage when in fact they covered nothing....we were out around $5000. NEVER RENT HERE!!! read more

On top of that they double the rates every 3 months for what?? The units are falling apart, dilapidated, dark and dingy; it's a very old facility with very little upgrades. I would strongly advise against storing anything at this facility because I can't stress enough that the entire facility is infested with mice which is a health hazard; mice carry hantavirus and the plague. I am assuming that all my belongings are going to be damaged due to this. This is god awful for anyone to go through. There isn't anything positive I can say here. I spent thousands moving my stuff into this storage facility.

One of the biggest advantages is their full-year price guarantee. I was told that rates only increase once a year--and at a modest, low percentage--so far, that has held true. It's refreshing to find a storage facility where you don't feel like you're being taken advantage of. The staff are helpful and professional across multiple locations, and the reviews that led me here seem well-deserved. Self storage can be a racket, so I'm grateful to have found a place that's fair, transparent, and customer-friendly. If these practices continue, I would confidently recommend Encinitas Self Storage.
