My husband and I have been loyal customers of A-1 Storage - Little Italy (2235 Pacific Hwy, San Diego, CA 92101) for nearly three years, paying over $300 per month to store our car while we relocated to the East Coast to care for his elderly parents. We absorbed multiple rent increases without complaint. We were good, reliable, long-term customers. And this is how we were treated. On my most recent visit to San Diego, I arrived completely drained after a full day of travel -- bad weather, a long layover in Denver, a cross-country flight, only to find that my battery was dead. I walked into the office and politely asked if someone could give me a jump. One employee barely lifted his eyes and muttered "give us a few minutes." No acknowledgment that I was even a person in need of help. No "sorry about that." No basic human decency. Just dismissal. I walked back to my car and stood in the garage -- alone, with my luggage, no place to sit -- for over 20 minutes. Let that sink in. Over 20 minutes. Standing in a garage we have been paying thousands for, faithfully, for nearly three years, while multiple staff members sat around doing nothing. After that 20-minute wait, I had to go back into the office and ask again. I practically had to plead for basic assistance. Only then -- reluctantly, as if I were an inconvenience -- did they send Armando out to help. This is not a minor complaint. This is a complete failure of basic customer respect. When I followed up with a phone call weeks later and spoke to Ian, it somehow got worse. He was utterly indifferent -- no apology, no accountability, no acknowledgment that anything had gone wrong. He made it abundantly clear that our years of business and thousands of dollars meant absolutely nothing to this facility. I will say this: Armando, who came out and helped with the jump, was professional, kind, and genuinely appreciated. He is the only reason this review isn't a zero-star across the board. The problem is not him -- the problem is a management culture that treats loyal, paying customers like dirt. We have since moved our vehicle to a facility that actually values its customers. From the moment I contacted A1 I have been thoroughly impressed. Ian at the front desk is professional, approachable and very easy to work with. I'm traveling back east for the foreseeable future and must put my Lexus hybrid in storage. A1 provides auto storage as well as storage for personal effects. A1 also has a battery tender service for hybrids and EV's to keep your battery healthy which is critical when leaving an EV unattended for long periods. The price is right, the quality is right on. What other people have been saying is true. After reserving a unit online 2 months ago I just received a letter in the mail that they're raising the price on my unit. However when I check online they're offering my same sized units for cheaper than they're charging me. After talking to the regional manager he informed me that the online rate is just a three month introductory rate. That was definitely not clearly stated. I've had units here for 10 years & have no issue with the people or the place but the steps U have to go through to update your credit card information is ridiculous. Next time it would be a lot easier to cancel & move to another facility. read more

I went here to look at both vehicle and storage units. The sales person was very polite but rushed me through the process, obviously trying to close the sale as fast as possible. At this time they had three (3) car spots available. I signed the contract but called to cancel at the same afternoon, because I did not feel that the facility was safe as they only have padlocks and I found another place where I could add extra locks too. I went back the next day they were open to give them the keys and to get the car storage rental finalized, just to be told that there were no more spots available, as they were all taken since. Like in one afternoon on December 31st, during a quarantine - right...( eyerolling emoji) Quiet an obvious lie and retaliation. Thought the management should hear about how business is lost. read more

We've been using A-1 Self Storage on Pacific Hwy for over a year and half for both a car and household items. Emma, Cesar and Armando have been so very professional and courteous to us. They took such good care of our car, as we scheduled to drive the car regularly and all worked together to make sure the car was always ready for us. So very appreciated! Clean, well maintained when so many storage places are not and we felt safe when going there even after office hours. We needed to close the storages but we definately do recommend them! Good safe storage. Friendly staff. The only downside is that every few months they increase your rent. So, they hook you in with a cheap rate, then once they have you, they increase it. So if you have a place closer to where you live and it's a bit more expensive, go with them because the savings really isn't there. read more

This is a great location with quality people working at it. If there is a time I need help sorting out paperwork, getting a copy of my bill, figuring out what my code is (yessss I am the one who forgets all the time!), or even getting a cart, the people here always help me with a smile. I expect places like this to have bad service or be a really depressing experience mostly because what would one expect from a storage place? However when I run into any of the employees here I always get a smile and they remember who I am for the most part. I found it difficult to find a good price on temp controlled units and felt like I lucked out when I got one here. From what I understand the prices are somewhat set on supply and demand and one unit can become more expensive and then cheaper depending on the situation. My unit has never seen a price increase, and I've had it more than a year. They also store cars here if you should need some space from your clingy vehicular significant other. I won't tell if you don't. This place doesn't feel shady either. It looks like it SHOULD but honest it doesn't. Give it a gander if looking. read more

Great location for Downtown residents. Use the north entrance/exit if you plan to turn south on PCH. The south entrance is a right turn only (north only). Facility is very clean, organized and well managed. Security looks great and hours are reasonable. So far so good. read more

Raymond was so gracious and helpful. He took the time to walk me through the lay-of-the-land He was so accommodating. The space seemed much smaller than advertised. I didn't have a measuring tape to verify it. I did feel a little deceived. I just paid my bill and they added a $10 protection plan that I never agreed to. Again, Raymond who works the front desk is a class-act, the company, however seems sleazy. I would not recommend them. I prefer working with a company that has integrity. read more

Started out with two large units after moving out of a house, then downsized to one large unit, then to a single smaller unit, until finally I could fit what was left in my apartment. Motivation to downsize and eventually eliminate storage supplied by increasing rates over time, but that's to be expected. This place is clean, secure, and well maintained. read more

Initially, I wasn't a fan of A1 Storage but it really wasn't their fault. I rented a Uhaul from LA to move my stuff down to San Diego. The booking came with one month free at A1. When I arrived after sitting in Socal traffic, they told me my reservation didn't exist. *release grumpy monster* after talking it through with Brad and explaining the situation, he was able to locate the reservation and set me up with a storage space. From there it was easy peasy. He was really calm and nice. A1 storage is easy, totally secure and really convenient. I'll be out in a month but I would highly recommend this location. read more
