Tried to buy some breakfast tacos and the cashier was pretty rude. He told me I couldnt go in without a face mask (which I get cause of the employee safety) but he just let me walk out and didn't offer any other alternative. Another lady that was there was nice enough to tell me I could order online and they could bring it out to me. I tried going to the website but it is not easy to navigate. So I called in to see if I could order over the phone and the saaaameee cashier answered the phone (Michael) and told me I couldn't order over the phone and that by the way they also don't accept cash. WHAT! I felt like he just didn't want my business which makes me sad cause I love going to 2nd cup. That's not a very good experience and honestly I don't feel like going back after that. I was surprised at how much I liked this place. The photos here on Yelp don't give it justice. This is a beautiful coffee shop that was designed to be minimal and hip as well as spacious and communal on top of being rooted in a deeper mission to bring awareness to modern day slavery. Particularly, I liked how it was a great study environment. They have a small parking lot, so I managed to find a spot easily. The tables are all big and open. And while I did have to share, I didn't mind doing so at all. Almost everyone was sharing with strangers. It gave it a great feel, honestly. And I didn't worry about finding a seat, although I heard that they can be extremely busy at times. During the day, I appreciated that the music wasn't overpowering because so many coffeeshops are so loud. It was just a good ambiance overall. I ended up grabbing a cup of drip coffee. No complaints there. Towards the evening (on a Saturday), it definitely started to pick up with larger groups of people coming to hang out and socialize, so the mood in the shop started to shift. Overall, great experience. One of my favorite shops in Houston so far! read more

Excellent coffee that supports a good cause. Quality drinks and house made food can trick you into forgetting that this shop is about more than just coffee. All profits go to human trafficking organizations and the shop will soon offer job training for trafficking survivors as baristas and chefs. Strong WiFi if you're here to get work done. Not only do you cater to everyone with all sorts of whimsical drinks, but you raise awareness for a crime that a lot of fellow Houstonians don't realize happens in our backyards: human trafficking. Did you know Houston is one of the biggest trafficking centers in the US? A portion of proceeds goes towards organizations that fight these trafficking rings and help their victims, so go ahead and indulge in that extra cup of joe or pastry or salad (they serve lunch here!) or whatever! I basically try a new mocha every time I visit, and I have yet to be disappointed. You could also get regular coffee, classic espresso, or even hot chocolate. Came here yesterday since we did not have any internet connection after Harvey. Stayed for two-three hours because of their great concept, delicious, and fast wifi. This is a non profit shop and raises money and volunteers for amazing charities. They are collecting lots of supplies for families that were affected by Harvey. Came back again today because I was craving another chai fritz latte (chai + double espresso) it is delicious hot or iced. So glad people are supporting this place!! read more

The reason why I love this place so much is not only the solid cup of coffee and nice study spaces they have, but also the mission behind their business. Their central focus on exposure and advocacy for fighting human trafficking in Houston is something that really drew me into visiting this coffee shop in the first place (per recommendations from two fellow Rice alum/Houstonian friends). They have ample study space (at least when I went on a Saturday afternoon and in comparison to other coffee shops I've studied at in the Houston area). They have a small parking lot next to their store, which helps tremendously. I like how the airiness and space of the place contrasted with the more industrial decor and design. If you're ever in the Heights and looking for a place to chill, catch up with friends, coffee dates, etc., I highly recommend A 2nd Cup. (You're helping out a cause by coming here, so double benefit!!) I definitely will return in future visits to Houston :) read more

Someone near and dear to my heart told me about this place a few months ago and I've been looking forward to visiting ever since then. This is a coffee shop that anyone and everyone can get behind. The workers, for the most part, are volunteers. You'd never know that by the quality of the coffee or any of their snacks, though. I assume there are many people who visit this place and don't realize they're supporting the fight against human trafficking, so in case you're one of those people - thank you for unwittingly offering your patronage. I'm told that Houston is at the top of the list for human trafficking in the country, and A 2nd Cup has made it their mission to support organizations who combat this terrible practice. Profit from the sales are donated to any one of ten organizations that A 2nd Cup supports. Additionally, the rental space in the back of the building is donated to these same human trafficking organizations whenever they hold events/meetings/etc. For the individual customer, this space is as good as, or better than, any other independent coffee shop you'd find in The Heights or Montrose - free wifi, plenty of comfy work space, tons of caffeinated and caffeine free options (including some pretty fantastic smoothies), a few food options for a moderate snack or dessert, and reasonable parking accommodations. I highly recommend this place for all it represents as well as for the pleasant experience itself. Cool modern coffee shop with a good cause. They are a non-profit fighting human trafficking, which is a known issue in Houston. Which is the best part, but the prices are pretty reasonable (probably the cheapest in the Heights). They serve coffee made from Boomtown's beans, which I do like. Overall, good coffee, plenty of places to study, work, read, etc. Not the most secluded or cozy, but definitely a good vibe, music, and cool info displayed on the wall. They also have a decent amount of parking, which is a rare and great find for the Heights. read more

It was my first time there this afternoon. I've always wanted to go ever since I saw some classmates post pictures of the place, which by the way looked more spacious than I thought. Parking was nice since there was available parking right next to the shop. It has a nice feel and atmosphere. The decor was simple yet modernized. Nice and comfortable spot to grab a cup of coffee and converse. Definitely love the fact that they're raising awareness and funds for local organizations to fight human trafficking. Only downside is that the WiFi isn't so great. I would sit there and wait for things to load, eventually have to give up and use my data since I needed directions to get home. read more

I hate to write anything bad about this place because what they're doing is fantastic, but to be honest the coffee just isn't very good and neither was the chai or frittata that I tried. Don't come here with any high expectations about the food & beverages. That being said, I'm happy to come here for a tea anyway and support their efforts to end sex trafficking in Houston. I like it, the only thing that made them lose one star for me was that they only do the bottomless coffee up until 4pm.

It was my first time here, so I asked the barista for a recommendation. He suggested the Secret Squirrel latte which is hazelnut and amaretto. He then explained that they were a non-profit organization fighting human trafficking. The latte tasted great. Love our local coffee joint! Love that they have a philanthropic mission as well. All their coffees are great. Their mocha but inspires me to go with a mocha with coconut milk in an effort to increases fat instead of sugar, all executed beautifully. They do have a small made breakfast selection and lunches are prepackaged. Their pastries are also awesome. Space is large and good for working and quiet kid play. Costs are higher than other coffee shops, but of course the assumption is that the extra is going toward ending human trafficking in Houston. Worth it!! read more

I absolutely loved this concept. Drinking coffee for a cause? Sign me up! The coffee itself is yummy and it's next door to Andy's to pair it with breakfast tacos. I saw they had chamomile tea and it's on my to do list for my return. The only downfall was the pastry selection was absent. The only thing baked where cookies of various flavors. I went pretty early in the day too so I'm not sure if it's a regular thing. Other than that I will return to this wifi spot for some yummy tea soon. read more

Awesome breakfast sandwich and the grilled cheese is on point! My daughter really liked the fruity palmer. The only reason I give four stars is the Red Baron. The flavor profile was supposed to be raspberry and mocha but it tasted like a regular mocha, albeit a good one. We'll still come back, I'd like to make my way through the rest of the menu. Love the concept, but the staff is awful. I went in to pick my husband up. I had half a froyo with me, explained I wasn't staying and just wanted to buy a cup of coffee, and one of the women behind the counter told me to leave and wait outside because they don't allow outside food or drinks. Meanwhile, three people had their own Yeti cups, and one guy was eating out of a Tupperware. So, ok. Yelling at a customer from across a cafe "YOURE STILL EATING IT WAIT FOR HIM OUTSIDE" as my husband is obviously packing his stuff away? Suuuuuper professional. read more

Great place with a good selection of fair trade (but unfortunately not organic) coffees and teas. For now we are not going there due to only outdoor seating and the fact they don't accept cash (which leaves out a good segment of the population who don't have credit cards or don't want to use them). What's not to like about a great cup of coffee that supports the fight against human trafficking!? I tried their duke of York, which is a minty mocha, and it was delicious, especially after I added more cocoa to it because I like my drinks very chocolatey. They have great breakfast food as well, I had their peanut butter scone as well as some kind of panini which were both delicious and was devoured as soon as it came. Parking is better than other places, they have a pretty big parking lot but it gets full on weekends. Street parking is not too bad though. Great place to study, there are tons of plugs and tables, and the huge windows lets a lot of natural sunlight in. Definitely coming back the next time I'm in the area!! read more

Quaint little coffee shop in the heights! Those who know me know that I'm all about the local coffee shops & this one doesn't disappoint. I'm not sure where they get their beans from but the cold brew I had was very smooth,enjoyable, & made me want to savor every single sip. The ambiance is very hip, like most coffee shops, & features several seating areas to have those deep conversations that only a coffee shop can provide! I went on Sunday morning & thought this place was awesome; but I can see this as a great gathering spot or a neutral meeting place for a Friday or Saturday "date night" with the one you adore. Growing up near Beaumont, we used to go to Houston all the time but never ventured deep into the city like this. I know that places like A 2nd Cup haven't been around long but it's places like this that make the city more unique & diverse; helps set it apart from the chain restaurants & other shopping destinations closer to it's many freeways that are more familiar to those who visit this monster-sized city. read more

I've visited A 2nd Cup 3 times since I read other reviews from fellow Yelpers so I think I have a good idea of what this place is about. First off, I love the idea behind it. As many of you may know, it's a non-profit business that aims awareness and tries to put a stop to human trafficking in Houston. More businesses like this please! Secondly, the place is just plain cute. It has an open kind of floor plan and seating is ample which is great for those of us that have work and/or studying to do. I have to say their super cold A/C is a blessing in the summer months, just being real lol To me, they have a good number of outlets too. I like how they have outlets wired into the floor for when you happen to be seating at one of their tables and aren't lucky enough to nab a seat by the wall. Their drinks are quickly becoming my fave. My first time here, I had the iced matcha latte which had the perfect amount of sweetness and I was sad when I drank it all lol This past Sunday I came in and I ordered 2 of their strawberry, ginger lemonades for me and the bf and they were perfect! Very refreshing especially when you're running errands in this Houston heat as we were. If it's your first time visiting, I would try the Secret Squirrel (hot or iced) very flavorful with hazelnut and amaretto. Their hours are pretty decent too, 7am-10p weekly. I would've given 5 stars but did take one away simply due to the fact that the employees aren't very friendly and/or talkative. We're always friendly to them but they just seem to be stuck on one word replies as if they just want to get you out of their line. My first time here, I thought it was just chance that the employee helping me wasn't that friendly, but after returning here it seems to be the norm. Oh well. I like this place and even though the peeps that work here don't like talking, I find myself coming back here for the drinks. The inside is very spacious and lightly crowded. So you can easily find a seat (no problem there). The staff are very nice and polite.
