How old is your unit?" I responded with the age of the home/unit (12yrs) and he said "Well, they're only supposed to last between 10 and 15 yrs so we can take a look at it and...." That's when I stopped and calmly interrupted him and said "Hey, this isn't going to go well. I've been on the phone for 30-seconds and you've prepped me for a new unit. I know I might be skeptical, but ... " aaaaand he interrupted and went on a rant telling me that yes I was overly-skeptical (he might be right) and how long he's been doing this and how he knows what's going on with my unit because of his experienced, he raved about how great their reviews are on their website, how they help people when nobody else does, how they help little old ladies and poor people who can't afford service, how they stay open when other companies are closed and don't wanna help." -- In so many words, "they're the good guys!" I offered to share with him why his lead-in had sent up red flags and he continued to tell me why they were the good guys and I was irrational. When he finally finished letting me know that my perception was invalid... I shared with him that consumers are on-guard with repair people because we don't have ongoing relationships and we've all heard of or experienced horror stories ... he dismissed my concerns and told me I was an exception (less than1% of calls ) everyone else just trusts them. This didn't increase my level of trust and I said we'll just go our separate ways. I was definitely the calm one on the phone, though he never got rude (other than talking over me and repeating loudly how great their company was and how unbelievable it was for me to have any doubt at all because read my reviews)... he let me know several times that their company stays busy with all of their other customers! I then read a few more reviews and found others had similar negative experiences on the phone and several had the type of service visit I felt I was being set-up to experience. Happy for you if you had a better experience with them... I couldn't get past the arrogance and dismissiveness of the sales guy priming me for the big ticket.

We asked for a specific heat pump model with the new R32 refrigerant, but the two other contractors put an old model in the estimate. 2Brothers was also the most reasonable price-wise. And we couldn't have been happier with them. We wanted to take advantage of the Oregon Heat Pump Purchase Program that had just been launched. They weren't participating yet, but after we asked about it, Lisa, who runs the office, filed the papers, and we were able to get the $2,000 rebate. Beyond that, Charlie, the brother, who does the estimates; Casey, the brother who does the installation along with Max; and Lisa (they make up the entire company) were all professional and pleasant to deal with. Several months ago, a technician from this company came to inspect my heating system. During the…read morevisit, he found small cracks in the furnace's burner plate/heat exchanger. I understand that safety issues need to be taken seriously. My frustration is with the communication. The technician disconnected the gas supply to my furnace but never clearly explained that he had disabled it or what that would mean going forward. Since this is a dual-fuel system with a three-year-old heat pump, the gas furnace is only used as auxiliary heat during the coldest weather, if at all. I didn't discover the furnace had been taken out of service until months later, when I actually needed auxiliary heat. Had the technician taken just a few extra minutes to explain what he was doing, why it was necessary, and what my options were, it would have avoided a great deal of confusion and frustration. I appreciate the importance of safety, but good customer service also means making sure the homeowner understands what has been changed before you leave. That's the part that was missing.

He is saying our condensation pump doesn't have a good foundation set up and that it is not hooked up properly. Company #2 misdiagnosed the problem & never followed up with a promised part (that I ultimately didn't need anyway). I think I used Angie's List to get recommendations after almost a month of no central heat and rising frustration, & that's how I found Fire & Ice. Thankfully I don't often have furnace issues but was appreciative of the quick and fair service offered by Fire & Ice. Would absolutely use their services if/when the time comes.
