Several months ago, a technician from this company came to inspect my heating system. During the visit, he found small cracks in the furnace's burner plate/heat exchanger. I understand that safety issues need to be taken seriously. My frustration is with the communication. The technician disconnected the gas supply to my furnace but never clearly explained that he had disabled it or what that would mean going forward. Since this is a dual-fuel system with a three-year-old heat pump, the gas furnace is only used as auxiliary heat during the coldest weather, if at all. I didn't discover the furnace had been taken out of service until months later, when I actually needed auxiliary heat. Had the technician taken just a few extra minutes to explain what he was doing, why it was necessary, and what my options were, it would have avoided a great deal of confusion and frustration. I appreciate the importance of safety, but good customer service also means making sure the homeowner understands what has been changed before you leave. That's the part that was missing. read more

Technicians completed the work as needed, but company charged me $250 for a surge protector in 2021 and when the technicians returned in 2023, I showed them my 2021 invoice and they said that I had no surge protector. I called the office and asked for a surge protector to be installed or to receive a refund and they refused suggesting that another company that I'd used removed it...but that company didn't then try to sell me one, so that explanation makes no sense. Had a minor leak above our furnace, their sticker was on the furnace from the home's previous owners, so we called Comfort. They fixed the leak to the tune $864.00. Two months later, the leak is back and way worse than before. All evidence points to the same problem. My wife called and felt that Charlie was incredibly condescending and refused to check out his work without charging a fee to come to the house. I called and experienced the same. He refused to just check it out without charging and refused to stand by his work. When I expressed my irritation with this, he simply hung up on me. Stay clear. This company may or may not do decent work, but they refuse to stand behind their work and have 0 respect or card for their customers. read more

Comfort Heating and Cooling saves the day, again and again. We purchase a new furnace from a local Portland furnace company (I'll call them Company A) for our rental home 6 years ago. From the beginning we had problems with the furnace and had to pay for several service technician calls. We had 'Company A' service the furnace and when they were not available, we hired others to come out. All techs, except the ones from Company A, commented that the furnace was significantly oversized for the home and vent system and that we would continue to see the same problem until a smaller unit was installed. This winter, having been overheating for 6 years, the furnace started shutting itself off every few weeks. Company A continued to maintain the size was not the issue though they could not prove that they had ever provided a heat load test to determine the appropriate size furnace prior to installation. This is where Comfort Heating and Cooling came in. They provided us with a heat load test which proved the furnace was significantly oversized and gave us all the documentation we needed to prove to Company A that they had made an error. The end result was Company A replacing the furnace with the appropriate size. Years of bickering were put to rest with the help of Comfort Heating and Cooling. As this home is a rental home we are obliged to provide a comfortable living situation to our tenants. The inconvenience for them as well as the extra thousands we have spent on service calls have been significant. We are so grateful for Comfort Heating and Cooling. Their willingness to help and their professionalism has been unparalleled. To start, I'd like to say that Charlie and his team have always been courteous and have been prompt at responding to my inquiries. They have been very pleasant to interact with and are really nice people. That said, they installed a heat pump for my home a year and a half ago. I want to focus on the primary issue here. If you're interested in the other issues, you can find them further down in this review. The main issue is that they installed the heat pump at a location in my home that's right next to my neighbor's yard. At the time of installation, I asked them if it would cause noise issues for the neighbor, they said no. After installing it, my neighbor complained and for the past year and a half, I've spent over 1000 dollars in trying to address the sound issues. Throughout this, comfort did not take responsibility for their mistake in installing the unit incorrectly. The Portland city's sound inspector told me that most hvac contractors they work with are familiar with noise codes. They mentioned legal action against comfort as a possible route, which I was not keen on of course. Eventually, I decided to replace the heat pump with a completely new unit, and asked that comfort install the new unit at cost (minus labor) since it was their incorrect installation to begin with. They refused. I'm really disappointed that they didn't take ownership for their mistake. Other issues: - I've spent approximately 1000 dollars in maintenance for the unit in the past year, above the costs to address the sound issues. - They mentioned that they believe some of this is due to tampering of the unit. I have no way of proving if it was an installation error on their end, or indeed tampering. - Post-sale of my home, the new buyers found out that the thermostat was wired incorrectly and was not reading the outdoor sensor correctly. I feel like even if they dispute the secondary issues I mentioned, the primary issue remains - they refuse to take responsibility for an incorrect installation. It's tough for me to write this review because I really like them personally, but it's only fair that I inform other buyers about these potential issues. My advice is - make sure you check sound code levels before installing your hvac unit. read more

I have used them twice in the past three years. I called on Friday and Jim came on Monday morning . Fixed it and it was 147 . He said we need a new furnace , but I'm not the owner . I am pleased that I now have heat. Jim is a nice guy too. And that makes a difference to me. Would use them again in the future. read more

Actually the service guy was great. Arrived early and fixed the heat pump. Although the repair didn't last (but I don't think that was his fault - he warned us of the potential). BUT the sales area was disappointing. I set up a time to meet at our house - the plan was to replace 2 houses' heating systems. The guy just didn't show up, when I called I got the answering service and left a message we needed to reschedule. They never called back. They replace our old HAVC system with a new one. It failed within a week and after several attempts to fix it over a few very hot weeks this summer, they were only able to get the AC running by removing all of our filters including the main one in the furnace itself. Problem is they then wanted to charge us a big bunch more to upsize the ducts when they should have known up front that they would need to be done. They were the low bidder and now we know why. They refused to correct the problem without charging us so I took them to small claims court and won a judgement against them for the price of the fix. Very unprofessional in my opinion. I never bother writing bad reviews but they deserve it. read more

CHC came out on 7/18 to determine whether the AC could be repaired. The tech didn't do any repairs, but charged $99 dollars just to tell me the AC and furnace needed to be replaced. I asked if he could give me an estimate & he said he would if I was prepared to put down 50% that day, otherwise he'd send an estimator. He was not really good at explaining in layman terms, so I chose to wait for his estimator to come out. The estimator, Charlie, came out on 7/25 and he was great. He had serviced my existing AC & furnace before and was very good about explaining what was needed in a way that was very understandable. He explained financing options and provided pamphlets on the equipment. He was very prompt & professional and quickly e-mailed a detailed quote for a Ruud AC & Furnace. I probably would have opted for their service soley due to my previous experience as a customer of Charlie's and his professionalism. However, after researching equipment, I found that most of the brands are comparable in their ratings and the estimate he provided exceeded the price of the other quotes I had received. The $99 fee for no repair also seemed excessive. In addition, there are other contractors who offer a longer labor warranty. It didn't really make financial sense to pay a significantly higher price for comparable equipment and a shorter labor warranty. Had the quote been mid range in comparison to the other quotes I had received, they would have been my choice of installers. Even though they won't be doing my installation, I would still recommend Comfort Heating & Cooling for anyone unconcerned about pricing because I've had really good experiences with them in the past. read more

Charlie and crew are GREAT! I had a new heat pump installed. Tried others suggested by the energy trust, and all they wanted was to add things and cast that I didn't want.
