That said, the dine-in experience is pretty perfunctory. Some tables are threaded between the lines to the two cash registers, where they just get in the way. The tables to the north are often full with regulars. It can get busy. If you call ahead they'll have your order waiting at the left register, which can save a few minutes. Don't rely on a quick grab-and-go though - while it does happen occasionally, they will not always man both registers when they're busy making orders. This is without a doubt the best bagel place in Sussex county. In my opinion the best bagel they have is the French toast bagel. It is not like other places do it, the bagel itself has flavor it isn't just crumbles on top, which I personally do not like. Everything else here is good too, they make excellent subs and breakfast sandwiches. But if you want the best French toast bagel, you need to come here. The service is always good. All the girls that work there have been there for years. The inside has tables and chairs too if you want to sit and eat there. It is more of a grab and go place. They also have benches outside in the summer too. The parking can be tight. They share a lot with a bar next door. But it's usually ok and everyone is usually in and out. We just had the best breakfast experience at A&B Bagels! We were amazed at the food quality, freshness & variety of the menu. Our Western egg sandwiches were hearty & so tasty. The variety of excellent coffees were surprising too. The huge amount of fresh choices plus the truly welcoming and friendly staff made this such a spectacular experience. And they cater! A&B makes a decent sandwich and bagel. The way that the store is operated borders on the insane. The store is consistently understaffed and even if you call in your order in advance you are made to wait in line with everyone else that is ordering while your food gets cold and soggy. The inside of the store is somewhat overcome by the smoke from the grill. If you're going to go the A&B leave plenty of time for the insanity. read more

It's a real treat to have a bagel store in Jersey that serves bagels that taste like they've been shipped straight from NYC! (but rest assure they are all made on site )The servers are always so pleasant, even though they're constantly juggling orders like a circus performer--who knew bagel-making could be such a high-pressure sport? My two cents? Call ahead! It'll save you from the marathon of waiting in long lines on weekends or early mornings. Trust me, those lines can be longer than a Monday morning! And don't forget to indulge in some of their pastries, too. So far, my favorites are the cinnamon stick buns (I think that's what they're called--if not, I'm starting a petition for a name change!). This business is a staple of this community. It's been here a long time and almost never disappoints. Food is above average and reasonably priced. Lines can be long especially on the weekends so calling your order in ahead of time is the way to. I know they have a other locations in Randolph and Morris Plains but for how busy it can get (lines out the door) they might want to consider another location near Newton or maybe even a food truck for the breakfast sandwiches to serve more people faster! read more

It was pretty good. I got the Early Bird on an Asiago Cheese Bagel. The egg was a little over done (brown) and the tomatoes were a little pale (I guess that was due to time of year?) Overall, not bad. Coffee was good although they were out of the specialty coffees. read more

After being in the area for a wedding, my husband and I stopped by for breakfast Friday around 9:30 AM. THAT LINE THOUGH. We had one person ahead of us in line when we arrived. Within 5 minutes there were 12 people behind us and a phone order. It was madness. There are two lines for ordering/paying which had people getting confused. Someone who was waiting a long time ended up realizing their call in order got lost and stormed out. There wasn't much logic to the process. Luckily, Castaway was playing on two TVs so we were all kept calm by watching Tom Hanks learn how to open a coconut. A WIDE SELECTION OF BAGELS. I'm here for a bagel sandwich. Of course. I was impressed with the bagel options. Not only did they have everything and wheat everything, they also had egg everything! I'd never seen this before and had to try it. The result was a decent bagel that could have benefited from more everything seeds. The sandwich same with two thinly fried eggs. The cheese was American, which had I know I would have swapped out (they have a lot more meat and cheese options). For a decent bagel sandwich, I wouldn't put up with the chaos this restaurant leans into. But if you can time your arrival right, this is could be a worthwhile stop. read more

Bagels breakfast sandwiches are very good, but during breakfast and lunch you will have to wait. The lunch menu all sounds good, but every sandwich is loaded with garlic. So much so that you do not actually taste the ingredients. For example the Soprano. Chicken cutlets loaded with garlic in the breading, roasted peppers loaded with garlic big cloves and oregano. All I tasted was garlic oregano and balsamic. Lighten up on the garlic and chop it up and use less and you will have some great sandwiches. read more

I like scallion cream cheese on a jalapeno bagel. Oh, it's also pretty cheap at least compared to Los Angeles. Make sure you tell them you want the bagels toasted otherwise it'll be cold and hard... Coffee is ok and self served, just get a cup and get the one you want...I drink decaf so I'm ok with it. Milk is served thru a machine on the left. It's a bit confusing but I think the cashier charges when you order is ready. 2 days later: I came back and this time got a lox and bagel with garlic bagel and scallion cream cheese. It was great. We stopped here on our way back to NY on a Sunday morning. My husband, the Long Island bagel snob, was pleasantly surprised by how good the bagel was. He said the bagel was light and airy but somehow still had that bagel taste and texture. They definitely boil their bagels first and the flavor of whatever yeast they use is delicious. I got a Taylor Ham and cheese on a plain bagel and the amount of Taylor ham could have made 2-3 sandwiches! Also, the Taylor ham was thick cut and very tasty. After we left we wished we brought some bagels home with us. Also, their prices are good! We will 100% be going back when in that area again. I've been living in Sussex County for 19-20 years and thought I found the best bagels until I ate at A&B Bagels. OMG!! The best bagels I've eaten!!! I bought a half dozen, froze them and tasted just as good, fresh when I defrosted them. A and B Bagels are the best Bagels in NWNJ. No competition at all. Anytime we drive to Newton we always stop and buy bagel sandwiches and a bag to take home and freeze. A&B does a good job on breakfast and sandwiches. However, the staff appears to be opposed to wearing on masks. It's crazy to see the customers all waiting respectfully with masks on, while the employees wear the masks on their chins or not all. What makes it worse is that you also have long wait times to get food, so you breathe in the air while you wait. If not for this, the place is a solid neighborhood choice with an above average rating. read more
