Inconsiderate overall. Would not recommend. They take up the entire road to do their work and cause traffic everywhere they go.

A&L were easy to get in touch with regarding emptying of a cesspool. However, their office staff and field staff do not appear to communicate. I was given a prompt 2 hour window, but the truck & crew never appeared. I called and was given an apology and a rescheduling -- 3 times in a row. They did finally show, but at a time when I could not be home. We paid $450 on good faith, but it seems the crew did not empty our tank. Rather than phoning in to complain or attempt to get a refund/repeat service, I am seeking help elsewhere. read more

I'd like to thank the two crews that came out today. My toilet and shower backed up and the "plumber" that came yesterday said it was my cesspool. Hence the first crew. They arrived and took the lid off the cesspool to find it dry. I was completely embarrassed as I don't know anything about cesspools. We just moved in last June and have no experience in that system. The First crew called back to the office and a second crew was dispatched to actually fix the problem. The owner actually waived the minimum fee for the first crew. This company has earned my business for life. I cannot say enough kind words about A & L. Great customer service. Thank you so much!! I had them charge me extra for a tip to both crews. read more

This business is an absolute joke . If you need regular maintenance for your cesspool they are on point . If I you have an emergency, do yourself a favor and find another place . We had an emergency call last month . I called at 7 AM , told them the situation, was told they'd be there between 9 and 10 . Well that came and went , no one shows up . Call at 11:15, was told the driver was " on his way " , no one shows up . Call again at 1PM , told again the driver is on his way ., well guess what kids , the driver showed up at 4:15 . The driver was very nice .. told us that it wasn't in fact the cesspool it was a separate issue that a separate crew has to come to the house for and they couldn't come until the next morning between 8 & 10. Next morning , I had to get on the phone with them at 7 AM to make sure they were sticking to their word . Basically , don't use this spot if you have an emergency. Their operation is a joke. You have an appointment, they come whenever they want. They leave a mess of your nice floors and break equipment. Do NOT hire these clowns. Embarrassing story, but worth sharing as I don't see a lot of feedback on here for emergency plumbers and for the first time ever in my time in NYC, I needed one. We had a toilet that went from slow to completely clogged without cause. Unfortunately, it happened after business hours and our apartment's management company wouldn't respond to our plea for help. Also, rather unfortunately, I am 7 months pregnant, which means I need to go to the bathroom just about every hour. Long story short - a non-functioning toilet is not an option. We called someone in our neighborhood who basically told us it was after hours and his rate would be double. He then suggested we call A&L. They were very nice and said they would have someone to us in under 2 hours, which they did. They also quoted us their hourly rate over the phone. The gentleman who showed up was very efficient. He found the issue was nothing we could help - we have huge tree roots growing into our pipes! He removed the root and fixed the job in under an hour. I thought for sure it would be more expensive due to this unforeseen invasion of nature. It was not. First of all, I NEVER write a review.. ever. But due to the poor service I received I had to. DON'T EVER HIRE A & L CESSPOOL!!!! Let me start of with the problem. My sink was clogged in January and I got referred by a friend to use A & L. Seemed like a pretty easy job, nothing major. I asked my roommate to handle the situation since I was at work and couldn't be home. She let the plumber in and she texted me that he was done in 5 minutes and he said that we just had to put bleach in it and handed her the $163.31 bill that she paid with CC (Got a receipt of that) and he left. My roommate didn't really check if the job got done or not, and the sink was unclogged for 2 weeks, after that it went back to being clogged again. When I came home from work the whole bathroom floor and bedroom (bathroom is attached to bedroom) was covered in dirt and mud. Days later, I received a call from A & L about an unpaid bill. which was weird because I thought my roommate took care of it since she had the receipt. So I followed up with her to see if it got deducted from her account which it didn't and I gave A & L my personal CC info. They said that the system didn't work and that they were going to call me again the following day. Every time they called me I picked up, and communicated and I told them that I would be traveling out of the country majority of January and most likely won't be able to get any calls. Time fast forward, after I gave them my CC info multiple times and checked with my bank if there was a problem I stopped hearing from them. Fast forward to this week, I get a call from A & L that my bill is past due and that it's $617.82 now! I communicated with them since I was really confused about my bill and especially since on multiple occasions I gave them my CC info. Besides all that, the communication is really poor and childish. The person in charge of the customer service is doing an absolute horrible job and loves to provoke situations and threaten their clients. Anyways, they gave me the option to pay the bill again or they we're going to handle it with an attorney if I didn't pay it by today. The emails and communication was unacceptable to the point where they threatened me, "If I did not pay this bill before today, they are going to take legal actions" after I offered them to pick it up in CASH. They agreed and said that they would send over someone before 11AM, since I had to leave for work before that time. 10.50am hits and still no call and nobody there, so I e-mailed them again and they said somebody was at my doorstep but nobody opened, after I told them multiple times that the doorbell does not work (theres a sign on the door window). So they send somebody over, and FINALLY i gave the guy the cash, even the guy that worked for A & L told me that they charge way too much for what they did and that everyone dislikes the owner of A & L. He also came up to check my sink and offered to fix it for way less. So that happened, no fast forward to a couple of days ago I went on a vacation and my phone couldn't take calls, I get a text from A & L saying I still have an open balance of 350. I almost lost it. Thank god I kept all my emails and all the receipts so after going back and forth for an hour he said my balance was 0 and that it was a mistake from A & L. Long story short: DO NOT HIRE A & L - YOUR PROBLEM WILL NOT GET FIXED AND THE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS HORRIBLE! read more

Highly recommend this company. We had a problem with our sewer and had Roto-Rooter previously been there and said they fixed it but they did not since it happened again less than a week later. We called a&l at 10:00 am and they had 2 of their guys at the house by 12:00. It took their guys about 30 minutes to fix the problem and everything is working perfectly now.. great company read more

I am a local plumbing contractor, I had a emergency call on a Friday eve at my clients restaurant. A&L responded within 1 hour as promised, cleaned and cleared the grease trap and got the kitchen back on its feet! Great job guys read more

Scumbag people. They told my business partner they owed a couple hundred dollars from an old invoice. My business partner was willing to pay the balance and they threatened him for the money. A bunch of liars and crooks! Never use this company! The company came to clear a clogged pipe. In the process with their snake tool they cracked the pipe. Then they claimed it was not their fault. Their employees seem to have no plumbing knowledge and use the snake technology as a fix-all without consideration of the type of pipe, etc. read more

These guys always do a great job. I work in a restaurant and we've had to call them out at all hours to fix everything from a backed up toilet to an overflowing and clogged grease trap. None of these things is pleasant, its terrible actually but these guys always save us!!! thank you A and L!! read more

Called in the AM (around 9 or 9:30) : We'll be there by 11:30. Called at 11:40: We'll be there within 1 hour. "When do you think he'll get here?" (Rudely "BY 12:40") Called at 1 PM: He's on his way from Staten Island."Where is he? is he still in staten Island? " "He's on the BQE (that would be less than 30 minutes from me at most) Called at 2 PM: "He's right there". "If he's here within the next 5 minutes, ok, otherwise cancel". They finally showed up at 3:30. Didn't even apologize. Reasonably competent when they finally got here, borderline rude. read more

This place is completely unprofessional I do not recommend. I called on Sunday to get the grease trap for my bakery snaked and cleaned. They do not offer cleaning on Sunday, so they came and snaked the trap at least and we paid in cash in full at the time they offered services. They told us to call Monday morning to remind them about the cleaning we had scheduled Sunday morning. My partner called Monday morning and was told, "We will no longer be servicing your shop." My partner asked why and was just told "It is at our discretion. We do not have to give you a reason." I tried calling back and getting more information, but was told the same thing. Completely confusing and unprofessional since they left us in the lurch Thanksgiving week and with our annual inspection from the department of health looming. I do not recommend anyone use this service. We had used this service several times without issue and all of the sudden they refuse to do business with us. So, awful story. I thought the cesspool needed pumping and I kept on waiting f Cesspool man - who never returned my call even when i told him it had become an emergency. The emergency was that I finally discovered that a very important pipe had become disconnected under my house.That was where the stench was coming from. I called A&L and they could not have been nicer. Livvio (not sure of the spelling) actually got on the phone ad discussed the problem and possible solutions with me. I decided to have his guys come in to handle the problem. They came the next day (hallelujah!). Mark took a look and it wasn't as bad as it seemed. He also checked out y cesspool and it did not need to be pumped. (Really, could have said it did and i would never have known the difference). I live in a place where they would have to run something like 15 lengths of hose, so it would ave cost a lot. Instead, it was a fraction of what thought it would be. Honest and reliable - I would recommend A&L. They will be the only service I use in the future. read more

These guys came out on a Saturday night during a holiday weekend. I had an emergency sewer backup in my basement and if they wouldn't have come on a few hours notice it would have been much worse. Anthony was super professional and polite. They snaked the drains and fixed the problem within 45 minutes. The charges were under $200 and I thought it was going to be a lot more. We used A &L for years when we used to have a restaurant, as their prices were always more reasonable than most, and they were always able to send someone fast. When I had a clogged line at home last year, I tried using a guy off craigslist who burned our beautiful sink with acid and didn't clear the clog, so I called A & L again. Their guys really know what they are doing and are always friendly and they stuck to their hourly price ($175) for the hour they were here and cleared the line. Recently I had to use them again and there was a mistake with the amount I was charged. I called the office ready to do battle, but the supervisor to whom I was transferred immediately offered to refund the difference. This really is a solid company! read more

They pumped my cesspool a couple of months ago. Now it filled again. They gave me a discount the last time. This time -- nothing. They'll be there after 2 p.m. Called again -- they're coming. Never came -- never called. Nasty and obnoxious. I'd rather pay more for the Cesspool Man. I won't have to sit around waiting all day for them. read more

These guys were amazing!!!!! We had a double sink that was backing up with waste water Cesspool came out cleared our drain and also gave us pointers to prevent this issue from happening again. i have attempted to get the tanks cleaned 4 times. the first two times they stood me up (scheduled on alternate side days so they have room to park the truck). the third time they did show up very late and had no place to park. and just today we had an appointment and when they did not show up i called and they will not be here in time for alternate side, so again no place no park the truck. not again. will find a more reliable company. read more
