Stellar meats. Locally owned. A good hunk of meat that is carefully cooked with love. You know it's a good place when it sells out in the afternoon and you get there and there's no meats so sad face but that means each day's meats is cooked fresh with love and they don't stuff things in the fridge to try to fool fools. Went here a couple years ago when it was Marvin's, and quality and quantity were well on point. Fast forward Aug 25, whole new operation with wack pricing, that made me feel like I got taken. Unlike a pic that I saw from earlier in the year, they don't do combo plates. 1/2 pound minimum on meats, so on the fly I sprung for Ribs & Brisket, added 2 sides and got shanked with a $50 bill. That's pre-tip Really soured the whole meal despite brisket being good and ribs were pretty solid, but not as good as I got them before when it was just Marvin's. Really no other good BBQ in Sonoma County tho. Will just lower my expectations and go to Red Bee in Windsor for more than 1/2 the price. read more

This BBQ place is fantastic southern and Midwest style BBQ. Kansas City style. Absolutely amazing. As most of you know good BBQ is pricey. True be dat. But I gotta say this place worth every penny. Inside very bright, light, clean and very happy kind staff. Always. I've been there about 5 times now. Always consistent staff and amazing BBQ. Here's the deal though. You gotta go early. They sell out early every day they're open. So pick it up early and save for later when you're ready or you'll never get to enjoy. The baked beans are like the ones I grew up eating and so delicious. I decided to come in after having a family member read an article raving about the food. We ordered a 2 meat plate (chicken, brisket), beef ribs, cornbread, collard greens and Mac & cheese. The smell when you walk into the building is phenomenal. The staff were very friendly and happy to answer all our questions and recommend certain popular dishes. We weren't able to see them package any of the food with the design of the counter but we paid and went home to dig in. We were massively disappointed by the amount of food in the bag. We either ordered half a pound or a full pound of the meats and were expecting to see a decent amount. 2 pieces of brisket, two ribs and what looked to be a quarter of a chicken. All the meats lacked moisture and flavor other than dry spices and fat. The corn bread and Mac and cheese were pretty standard and basic. The collard greens lacked some flavor and seasonings for me but it was nice with the grease heavy meats. I would maybe return to try the banana pudding and burnt ends but probably not anytime soon. I've debated which BBQ is the best in town. There are two other places that rival A&M but I feel this place wins by only by a ribs length! Why? Well, because they were the first to introduce me to what BBQ is supposed to be. I've used them as the guide to rate others by. The little deli that was Marvin's has bloomed into a full fledge restaurant. They've grown with their additional staffs. But what hasn't changed is the food and kindness. I don't see Marvin much but Kris has elevated the menu and flavors. A lot of places rely on their sauces to carry the flavors of their ribs. Not here! The sauce is an extra layer of flavor, but you don't need it. Straight off the grill it packs a powerful punch. The bark is intense. The last time I bit into one, the juices literally squirted into my eye glasses. I laughed as I chowed down. Haha! The sides offered a great. Some are too sweet for me, but I'm more of a savory person. The green collards are to die for. They used to give white bread which I used as an edible "napkin" when picking up the ribs. I will admit, I've only had the pork ribs. Someday I will try their "Dino" ribs and oxtail. They're opened from Thursday to Sunday now. Still gotta get there early before they sell out. Someday I hope they open 5-6 days a week. I can't always make it during their current hours and that makes me sad. Kris, Marvin and crew: never stop doing your thing! I heard of this place from a guy worked with so I'd figure I'd give it a try. I was going after the beef ribs but when we got there no beef ribs so we decided to order brisket ribs and I wanted to try the ox tail so we decided to get some potato salad and their beans had to say I was kind of disappointed for the price. My best friend and I had a great time at A&M! Kris, the owner, (Austin in the A&M), Darius and others are the consummate coolest folks you can meet and they explained how the meat was smoked and cooked! It's love that you taste in the oxtail, pure flavor in the smoked turkey! My bestie would have loved the smaller oxtail joints but I found my larger joint moist and delicious! The potato salad was some of the best I ever had! Kris mentioned some of the exciting changes planned and the takeout menu is amazing but we had our "q" at the informal restaurant's tables, lots of great tunes---old school tables with rolls of napkins, giant bottle of sauce (!), exciting assortment of canned beer (taps in the restaurant's next reincarnation), parking in front (much more at the next site), longer hours (call the site, as Yelp's description is incorrect, as is the menu (as of 5/31/25). I can not keep my husband away from here! He is obsessed. Do you sell shirts? I might need one for Christmas. The BBQ here is out of this world. When my husband brought me (finally), I was a little skeptical. But no. Not overhyped at all. I think we've tried all the meats at this point and they never disappoint! Even the turkey. The ox tail is just... perfection! In case picking your meat isn't hard enough, the sides are also absolutely outstanding! The mac n cheese is our hands down go to but we typically get a few. The service is above and beyond. My first time they let me sample a couple of meats before making my decision which I thought was really awesome. The one thing I am DYING to try but they are always out of is mama's banana pudding. It must be good if it's always sold out. The space is exactly what you expect from a bbq joint. Finally got the chance to give A&M BBQ a try and wow, they are without a doubt making the best barbecue in the area. Having made a few briskets myself, I know how much time and effort goes into it, from trimming, to maintaining a fire all night, and trust me, it is VERY hard to get a juicy, tender flat because the muscle isn't full of intramuscular fat and collagen like the point. When I go to a BBQ joint, I almost always ask for slices from the point, because it's guaranteed to be the juiciest part, but I wanted to try both at A&M and boy did they absolutely nail it. The fat cap was perfectly, nicely rendered, and sticky, and the flat was still super juicy and delicious. Slices from the point were of course stellar. The rub isn't overly salty and definitely leans heavy on the black pepper. The smoke flavor is present but not overpowering, so you won't be burping up smoke for the rest of the day. Overall, just phenomenally cooked brisket. This isn't a product you can cook large quantities of and serve through the week. It has to be made daily, so yes, they will run out. But it's no different than at any other barbecue quality barbecue joint. Although I didn't order a brisket sandwich, I will say that it looked amazing. These are not weird off cuts that have been chopped up. I literally saw the dude slice two pieces off the point end and smash them up for the sandwich so it's going to be super rich and juicy. A lot of barbecue places will take the dryer parts of the flat and use that for sandwiches because you end up shredding it up so it's harder to tell that it might have been dryer or a bit tougher. It also allows restaurants to use slices that they otherwise wouldn't sell to customers. But that's not what I saw here, so I'm super impressed and will definitely be trying one next time around. We also had a small piece of turkey breast as a sample and that was also amazing - again heavy on the black pepper, which I like, but super tender and juicy. One of the best pieces of smoked turkey we've ever had. Lastly, we had some pork spares. They were cooked perfectly. Tender, but you could still take a bite out of it without the whole thing disintegrating. There is some sweetness either in the rub or in the glaze that perfectly complemented the pork. I'm salivating writing this review, thinking of the next time I get to dig into some more brisket, but even if they happen to be out, there are plenty of other really delicious options you should try instead. read more

Brisket had good flavor but was tough. jalapeño cheddar sausage had good flavor but the casing was extremely tough and couldn't cut through it . on a positive side . Fantastic barbecue ribs and chicken. And you know what shows an amazing attention to detail? It's when the sides are also fantastic. I had potato salad and yams. Normally I'm not a potato salad fan, but this potato salad was excellent. I would say a bit of a German style. Yams were very Thanksgiving in nature and tasted great. Service was fast and could not have been more friendly. The restaurant is immaculately clean. They've kept that rustic look while a hundred percent attention to food safety with lacquered picnic tables. If you're visiting surpass the pool, if you live here, or even if you're just driving by, I recommend going out of your way to get your dinner here. This BBQ is the real deal! This is Texas style BBQ and this girl from Texas would know. The brisket is delicious. It's tender and juicy with great smoke and a nice bark. The jalapeño sausage is amazing. I also love the smoked turkey! Their smoked chicken, pulled pork and pork ribs are all delicious too. My favorite sides are the Mac 'n cheese, BBQ beans and greens. Wow the meats here are excellent!! Especially paired with the bbq sauce! Be sure to arrive as early as you can because they WILL sell out fairly quickly. Collectively our party got all different meats (no sausage because they were sold out) and no one had complaints. Now for the sides.. - Mac n cheese wasn't really good. Lack of flavor, kind of dry, not a fan of the noodle they used - Coleslaw was good! Loved that it wasn't overwhelmed by Mayo. - Jalapeño cornbread wasn't spicy at all. Pretty basic. Personal preference, but I hate when there are corn kernels in cornbread. Wasn't a lot, but there were a few. Generally wasn't bad though. PB banana pudding was not horrible, but I would never get it again. Lack of peanut butter flavor.. was kind of sloppy.. overall was nothing special. Too pricey. Inside seating includes a few picnic tables and high tables. Big open space and doesn't feel crowded. One thing they're missing is MUSIC! They have records on the walls but no music was playing. I think towards the end of our stay someone had turned on a small tv that was on the wall .. but a large sized establishment like that will need some speakers and tunes! read more

I heard about Marvin's bbq in Sonoma Magazine last month and decided to come check them out. I'm always on the lookout for some good old bbq which we sure are lacking around town. Drove out to Sebastopol, plenty of street parking and there is also a small lot in front of Marvins. There is a table to sit down but not sure if they wanna be a sit down restaurant, a deli, a wine shop or a take out counter? The shop is relatively huge but not much to fill in the spaces in between. I ordered a double bbq chicken combo plate with side mac salad and side of beans. The sides were kicking with flavor! The chicken was plentiful, juicy and lots of meat. The interior of the chicken didn't have too much flavor but like many other places, it's hard to get the bbq smoke flavor in. Service was quick and I got my to-go order quickly. Filled me up for the day. Though a hour or two later I was dying of thirst so I'm sure I got loaded up on sodium. read more
