Stopped in on our way back home to Phoenix. I had the mandarin chicken salad that was fresh and HUGE. My husband's pastrami sandwich was also gigantic and very flavorful with just the right amount of mustard to off set the salt of the pastrami. Very friendly staff. Great little bakery and sandwich shop in the heart of Blythe. The baked breads and goodies alone should get you in the door. I ordered a philly cheesesteak with chips while my wife had one with french fries. It was a good sandwich on freshly baked bread. It was loaded with peppers and onions, just the way I like it. On the way out the door, we had to grab some squaw bread and cinnamon rolls (hey they were calling to us). Best stop on the AZ -CA border on I-10 for sandwiches. Fresh baked breads, delicious meats, crisp vegetables and friendly counter service. Check out the baked goods too. The apple or cherry crisps are made for giants. Unbelievable how big they are. Place is not crowded so social distancing isn't a problem. They have two tables outside for eating. Just stopped in bought two sandwich's - with fries ( upcharge for the fries )- cashier lady who took my order was rude, unpersonable and never smiled once. This place is fantastic. On my way home coming back from LA I was hungry but hate to do fast food, I yelped sandwich shops in my driving vicinity and A & R popped up! This is a must stop by and it wont take any more of your time then a fast food place- and so much better! It is right off 10 in Blythe at the Lovekin exit about 1/2 mile down the road. They have a great menu of sandwiches and breakfast if you get there before 11am! Since this is a bakery you are getting fresh bread for your sandwich. And they are big! Everyone's pit stop when driving from CA to AZ. Located in downtown Blythe, just a block away from one of the busiest McDonald's I've ever seen. I'm glad we chose this place instead of fast food because their bread here is AMAZING, definitely a much better option. Don't be fooled by how this place looks from the outside because they serve good food. We got their turkey sandwich on a cranberry bread and their ham and cheese on the jalapeno bread per their suggestion. Comes with a pickle spear and a bag of your choice of chips. The ham and cheese came with sliced bell peppers inside (just letting you know, if you don't fancy those). The sandwiches are made fresh, they don't skimp on the meats, and again... the BREAD is the best. They also have a huge pastry case of fresh baked goodies ranging from loaves of bread, to danishes to Mexican pastries. It took a lot of self control to not impulsively indulge in every single one but I treated myself to a pineapple cream cheese pastry and that was so good. Flaky, not too sweet. Had a roast beef sandwich (cold) - it was nothing to write home about. The bread was too small for the sandwich and added nothing flavor or texture-wise (strange, since they bake their own). The meat was so-so quality - not a lot of robust roast beef flavor. There was no salt and pepper on the sandwich or the tables. The floor was filthy. Also bought a brownie - it was more like chocolate cake, and way too sweet. Spent $20. Would not return. read more

It's been awhile since I've written a review for A & R Bakery, but this is still my go to place when I want a meal out. My husband and I go there at least weekly. We have at some point or another tried everything on the menu, and of course the baked goodies, and have always been very satisfied with the taste, freshness, quality, and quantity especially for the price we pay. The place is always clean, including the bathrooms. The service is excellent, and the wait time very reasonable even if you go during the busy lunch hour rush. They are working as fast as they can to get your order out. They also do phone orders, which I have taken advantage of many times. Stop in and give them a try, you will be glad you did. read more

Based on the outstanding reviews of this shop I tried, and was wowed by, A&R Bakery. The food was excellent, the service impressive. I, too, was excited to have found a 5-Star place to stop at on my way back and forth from LA. Today (my second time there) was an entirely different experience. I didnt see any of the previous staff. I ordered a cup of coffee and was told that coffee isn't sold after 11am. Yes, I had to ask the young man to repeat that. They have coffee on the menu but don't sell coffee after 11am. No explanation. I ordered a soda and a slice of cheesecake. The cheesecake was placed in a styrofoam container and handed to me. I had to ask for a fork (plastic) and a napkin. Both were retrieved from underneath the counter. What happened here? When I politely asked if there had been a change of management and a change of coffee policy, I was told no. read more

This bakery is a GEM! I ordered a breakfast sandwich with potatoes (the sausage one) and this woman knows her spices! When I tell you the potatoes were SEASONED! The sandwich was hot. The provolone cheese was unexpected but balanced perfectly with the egg. The sausage wasn't overly greasy. And the baked goods looked so good my mouth was watering.
