Perfect stop when heading out of, or back to the LA area! I think we found this on yelp ages ago and have made it a regular stop. Their sandwiches are super tasty, with their fresh bread being a big part of that. My go-to is the Turkey which has bacon and cranberries and bread that manages to be incredibly soft which holding together really well. I would also recommend getting a loaf of their bread, it's over on a side wall. We just tried the dark one (can't remember the name) and it's very tasty. The perfect base for peanut butter. Parking is easy, staff is nice and interior seating is basic and plentiful. Last tip, which I screwed up on the drive out - don't buy gas in CA, wait until you get to AZ! read more

We stopped here on our way to Phoenix for the championship NASCAR race. We were a little concerned when we exited the freeway. The town is very run down. We found the bakery just a few blocks from the freeway. After gathering some courage we parked in the lot behind the bakery and walked in. We were greeted by a very friendly lady who took our order. We went with the recommended turkey sandwich on cranberry bread. We added avocado to our sandwiches as well. We took the sandwiches to go and ate them on the road. The sandwiches were SO GOOD! We've now added this to our mandatory stop list for any future trips to Arizona from California. HIGHLY recommend the turkey sandwich. They also sell the cranberry bread in loafs! read more

First off, the family running this business are friendly and helpful. They are fast and efficient. The place itself is a cute quaint little spot on a street corner in Blythe. Seating areas are comfortable and spacious. We've been here twice and both times have loved all the food we've gotten. So far we've tried the turkey sandwich--amazing! On their delicious cranberry bread. The French dip--fabulous! the dip is so creamy and rich. Pastrami & Philly steak--both a hit. We've also gotten grilled cheese sandwiches for the kids--also super yummy. And please do yourself and favor and get the fries. They're shoestring crispy fries--so so good!!!! We stopped by A&R in Mar 2023 during our roadtrip to Tucson. First, exceptionally good bread. "Bakery" in A&R Bakery is not just for show. 5 out of 5. Cheese steak part of my Philly sandwich is just okay. Wife's turkey avocado is very good. 3.5 out of 5. The wait for 2 sandwiches took 42 minutes. 1 out of 5. The young man working was contrite over the long wait and offered a complimentary drink or pastry. Bonus point for that. 4 out of 5. Stopped by on our way to Scottsdale and was not impressed. The food was nothing special, the bread was stale, and they add way too much mayo to their sandwiches. Also didn't care for the cheddar bread on a tuna sandwich combo. Prices were high for what you got and fries are extra. Maybe it was an off day, but I had a much better tuna sandwich for basically half the price over at Hadley's in Cabazon. Unfortunately, I won't be revisiting A & R. read more

Good dining is hard to find in Blythe but there's a reason this place gets almost all 5 star reviews. It's both a sandwich shop and a bakery. The baked goods looked terrific but we didn't try any. It's not really a deli where you can create your own sandwich. They weren't thrilled when we modified the turkey sandwich to make it more kid-friendly (read: dull) but they still did it. We also ordered a ham sandwich. Both sandwiches used the freshest of ingredients and were delicious. Based on Yelp reviews alone, this is probably the best restaurant in Blythe. Came across this bakery on our way from Phoenix to Cali. We were impressed with the reviews but we didn't get the same experience. This review is based on the pastries and service. If we had purchased a sandwich things might have gone better because most of the four star reviews were for their sandwiches. We ordered two pastries, one Bavarian cream filled empanada - was pretty good. The other a regular strawberry filled pastry - it was okay. We also ordered coffee, but the cashier was bothered that we wanted coffee because it was around 2pm when we arrived. She said she didn't want to make a pot and have the rest go to waste, which is understandable so we told her not to make one but she had already started to brew a pot. We used up almost half of the pot because we felt bad. read more

Fresh bread and delicious sandwiches! How often are you in Blythe, California thinking - I want to try something that isn't Jack-in-the box or Sizzler? This recently happened to me and I was glad to end up at A&R Bakery. I had the turkey sandwich on the cranberry bread as recommended. It truly was delicious. The turkey tasted freshly roasted and carved, but the true star was the bread. I wish the bread was sliced thicker but maybe that's me being a glutton. They do offer loaves to buy. I would have definitely bought a jalapeño cheddar loaf but none were available. They also have a gorgeous display of cheesecake and pastries but that will have to wait for a future visit. Overall it was a nice place to have lunch while escaping the glaring heat of the winter sun. read more
