Technician did not come prepared and did not ask questions, installed sink incorrectly. I was floored. I had to hire another local plumber to fix what they did. Never again. 3 visits and they still have not fixed the running toilet. On first visit, the entire inside was replaced for $357. It still leaked. The next day, the same plumber came out and made adjustments. It still leaked. On the third day, A & R sent another plumber who thought it was a faulty flush valve that they had just replaced. He said he would order it. After 2 months, we never heard from them again, even after we called him to ask when he was finally going to fix the toilet. We will never use them again. read more

I'm just a renter, but I was so pleased with A&R that I literally felt compelled to write a review. Kitchen sink had been draining slowly for a couple weeks, but on a Friday night in the middle of making dinner it stopped up completely - no draining whatsoever. Property management company closed until Monday. On Saturday late morning I just decided to call A&R after googling plumbers real quick. They had someone working on my sink like an hour later. Alden was super nice and friendly, and I could tell he knew what he was doing. He didn't mind that I was hovering over him and watching the work, and I even learned some stuff. This guy deserves a raise! A&R bills for TIME, so you're being charged really fairly. They even helped me communicate to my property manager that the issue didn't originate in my apartment and I was able to negotiate a reimbursement for the cost of the services. Two slow drains, one shower, one kitchen sink developed over the weekend. I got estimate from nationally advertised co, and they wanted $355...each. Called A&R after reading Michelle's posts, and because of previous positive experiences years ago. The technician, Cody, arrived on time, was pleasant to talk to, put on shoe covers and went to work. The shower was snaked and running in 20 min. The kitchen required disassembly/reassembly of the pipes and took 35 min. The service and result was outstanding, and saved me close to $500 over Brand X. I am not new to contracting.. Professional project manager in the area for 15 years. Called A&R based on a recommendation from another contractor for sewer backflow (flapper) fix or replacement on my house. From what I could tell to finish a price or quote we just needed to confirm old or new style flapper. The gal on the phone informed me they would have some one come by to confirm which type so we could finish the quote. After meeting A&R at the house for less than 5 min we determined the flapper was the old style. Before leaving the gentlemen asked for $140 - puzzled I asked why? He informed A&R has a standard 1hr. rate for all service work. I called the office asking whats going on to hear that finishing a quote with no actual work done would require $140 min. service charge. I told them I was not informed of this but would pay it in good faith for the forthcoming quote. I have never paid for a quote to do work in my 15 years experience without actual work not performed? Even funnier - The quote did not come after paying for it? After calling they sent me a quote for $1,740. RK Wilson Plumbing came by and fixed the flapper in 20 min paying for parts only! I had a tub spout with a defective diverter. I tried every which way from Sunday to get the spout unscrewed but I was afraid I would twis the copper pipe. I called A & R and they scheduled a plumber to come out. He ended up haveing to cut the spout off abd replaced it with a new one. While he was here I had him replace the filters and the membrane for my reverse osmosis filter. Great freindly, professional service. They are my new go to plumbing contractor! My family has done a lot of business with A and R over the years. I had them do some work on my moms place about a month ago and felt that the price is reasonable however I asked them to do some simple replacement of dryer ducting and they told me that they don't do that. The repair man told me that I could go to Home Depot and do it myself. Why are they called plumbing and heating repair if they don't do simple things like ducting? I know for a fact that they used to do ducting because they replaced the ducting on my dryer on my home in Marina 6 1/2 years ago. Most recently I called to see if they could repair a leaky toilet and would not be able to be fit in for almost a week. Not sure if they've gotten too big for their britches or what however I am probably going to seek out another plumber for my needs. Update!! The water heater they installed at my house does not have the proper trap. I am getting ready to sell and since this is a fire hazard I have to fix it!! Honestly, A & R Plumbing has saved me more than once. Last week they took care of a tenant's house where the exterior drain pipes had essentially disintegrated (due to the age of the house and the inferior prior plumbing work by another company). The water had to be shut off and trenches dug. Plumber Mario took pity on the tenant and her little girl, working that day and most of the next day with his parter, Justin, to fix the problem properly and efficiently. They even back filled the trenches so they barely looked dug. I have used A & R many times over the years for other properties, including a business and my second home there. Mario has also worked at my home and my business. He is competent, honest and a good trouble shooter. Whenever, A & R pulls up, you can be confident that you will be serviced with experience, integrity and fairness. They've never let me down! read more

The lady who answers the phone, Michelle, has no customer service skills, is extremely rude and snappy, and if you say anything about it be prepared for A&R plumbing to "not have room for you on their schedule." When I emailed the company to discuss my terrible customer service experience, the same Michelle (who answers the phone) called me back and stated that she is the owner, and blamed me for her curt and crappy attitude. She said that she can pick and choose who she takes as a customer and she "only takes nice people." She said "all the people in her office heard our conversation" and they don't think she was rude. Perhaps Michelle, it's because they are scared of you because you don't listen, you are extremely defensive, you blame others and have no ability to see that the common denominator with all the customers here that complain about bad customer service- is you. I would definitely not disagree with you if I had to work in your office either. She said, "you are just mad because you have a problem you need fixed and you want me to drop everything and run over there." Actually yes, I wouldn't be calling you if I didn't have a plumbing issue I need fixed. She said there was an account issue with the home owner and I told her I was willing and able to pay the bill for the leak that has left a one inch deep flood on the floor myself. It needed to be addressed asap. It is noted on the account that I am authorized to enlist the services of A&R anytime I need to. Michelle said she still needed to get authorization from the homeowner. I asked Michelle if she doesn't want to make money from paying customers? Her response: "well that's a dumb question." Who talks like that to customers??? After reading other negative reviews on Yelp and the responses it's obvious that Michelle's bad attitude and behavior is a pattern. But I don't think she's willing to reflect on that and do better with speaking to clients. I have used A&R on the property I am currently renting, and have also used them in the past on my own home. I don't think they're that good or worth the headache of dealing with the lady that answers the phone. I've also been underwhelmed by their work. And, since A&R doesn't think I'm nice enough to send a plumber to fix my leaking pipe, I hired another plumber to my house who arrived within the hour from Peninsula Plumbing and they were very polite, friendly, caring and efficient. Bottom line: just get someone else. I won't be using them or referring them to anyone. read more

A & R rock. They have come out several times for different issues. Backed up sinks, toilet that's not flushing right. Re-plumbing some of our pipes. The issue we just had is our garbage disposal stopped working. Justin came out to replace it...but when he heard that the motor was still working, he asked if he could just inspect it first. He did and it turns out there was a metal object that had gotten inside and jammed the disposal. He took it out and it was working just perfectly. He saved us the money to replace it and did it easily and quickly. Really grateful. read more

Had an emergency at a rental property where the sewer cleanup was overflowing. Called just after hours and got their answering service and was told I'd get a call back in a few minutes. No call back after 45+min so I called again and was told their after hours technician was on an emergency and unavailable and to call back 8am the next morning. Meanwhile my tenant decided to stay in a hotel. I called back 8am sharp, got answering service again and finally a call back 35min later and was told their schedule was full and they had no one available. When asked why they can't shuffle their schedule to accommodate an emergency, they said the same thing...they have no one available. I know some people have good experiences with A&R and I have too in the past. But this is the 2nd time they've shown extremely poor customer interaction. Highly recommend finding a plumbing outfit you can rely on, especially in times of an emergency. read more

My husband and I came out to our second home in Carmel, Ca. in mid-Oct. We've owned our home here for 12 years. I noticed a faint smell of gas so we contacted PG&E to come out and inspect for any possible leaks. They discovered a small leak in a valve on our gas fireplace. I then called to make an appt. with A&R Plumbing and was told their first available date was today, Nov. 13th. So, I took the appt. date and was given an arrival window of between noon and 2pm. At 1pm today I called to make sure I was still on their schedule and was told their plumber was finishing up another job in Carmel and would then be on his way to me. At 3pm I called back to find out what was going on. I was given the same story! And when I suggested a terrible Yelp review would be in the offing and hung up, someone called back to say they didn't appreciate being threatened and would NOT be coming to the appt., after all. So they were maligned?? How about the customer who spent three hours waiting for a plumber to show and who was never kept appraised of anything by the company. During such tough economic times I'm really surprised this company feels it can treat customers so badly. Needless to say, I will never use A&R Plumbing in the future. And I will certainly let my full-time neighbors (from whom I got the A&R referral) know about the way we were treated! read more

Had a kitchen sink drain pipe clog that I could not clear trying all the typical remedies including a hand cranked snake. Mario came out and did a great job on a super clog using their mechanical snake. Took a couple of attempts, but finally cleared it. We contacted A&R when we discovered a leak in our kitchen faucet hose. Turns out it was a difficult hose to find. But, they were able to find one in Southern California. It took longer than expected to for the hose to arrive. So, they went above and beyond and installed a temporary hose until it arrived. We've used A&R in the past and they never fail to deliver. We had a minor billing issue which they resolved immediately. I highly recommend them if you are having any plumbing issues. read more

I was told that they don't have insurance to cover this it's up to the homeowner to clean up their mess my mother is an 80-year-old on a fixed income she call A and R plumbing for a simple backed up sink the tech showed up cabled the sink but in the interim put a hole in her pipe told her everything was good when he was done so they used the sink not knowing that he had caused damage in the crawlspace when she called and complained about a smell they sent a tech back out the tech showed up looked under the sink said nope everything's fine have a good day ! Very unprofessional office staff very rude hung up on me refused to answer the phone their company is being run under a master plumber license of a gentleman that is deceased please do your research don't use this company we are in the process of following legal Action against them all we wanted them to do was do the right thing and fix their mistake but no !!!
