UPDATE (1/4/2017): Shelly of Reliable Plumbing reached out to me and we had a discussion about my expectations, the services and warranties that come with the $2800 water heater. The water heater comes with 10 years' maintenance and warranty. So the annual fee I was paying for flush/service is now included. Great! That saves me about $125/year. I believe this is transferable to the new owner (that's what our Reliable technician explained to me but I'll have to check my warranty papers and will update this review once I do). Shelly further explained that the technician sincerely believed I would have hot water for the night and they are truly sorry for the inconvenience. I'm a reasonable person and understand that we can't always control outcomes and it would seem in this case, the technician made a fair assessment but unfortunately the end result was unexpected (and inconvenient for me). In the end, I have a fabulous new water heater with an exceptional warranty (fingers crossed) and I've decided to keep with Reliable Plumbing & Heating so they'll be back later this year for our annual water heater & furnace check up/service. ORIGINAL post (12/7/2016): The 50 gallon water heater replacement cost $2769. Sure it came with a 10-year warranty, but for the cost I could've bought two! My appointment was rescheduled twice, and "Reliable" showed up on day 3. The rescheduling caused me to re-arrange my work schedule three times to allow for that 2 to 4 hour window required. The appointment required a return visit. I was left without hot water for the night and without warning. Bird bath for me and couldn't wash my hair. Washed my face in cold water. Terrible. Ultimately got a new water heater but with much inconvenience and cost. Expected better from Reliable. I received their thank you card. Apparently whoever completes those cards has no idea about the actual customer experience. There was no apology or awareness of my dissatisfaction, though I called twice to express both items. Hope next year's plumber (may use different company) will do better. I've used Reliable for over 4 years. What a shame this last experience was so deeply disappointing. read more

Plumber showed up and first comment was is there a better way to get to the waste line as I may end up doing damage to your landscape. My response was I have had several companies out prior performing the same service and this has never been a problem. There is only one way into the corner. I went back inside and he continued to contact his office, was told over the phone that they are required to tell this to customers before work is performed? Never has any other plumbing Company ever said this or required this before snaking a drain. The service tech actually had to call the prior plumber servicing our home to get advise since that individual had done work in same area prior. (Also was never told of Potential damage by that technician) Came back from appointment to a Broken Landscape Light post, just left laying in the ground broken at the post below grade. Someone had to try very hard to break this and not to mention no use care lugging their equipment around sensitive materials. Really? This is the Best service this company can do? This is the bottom of the barrel Plumbing Company on the central coast. Having someone work for your company with this terrible attitude is first a reflection of the quality of service they provide. Having to verbally accept potential damage to our property over the phone is the second. They don't Care as their business comes automatically from Insurance companies that sub out the service so they get automatic business no matter what type of care they use in your yard during a service request. read more

We just had granite countertops installed as part of our kitchen renovation and needed a plumber to install a newly purchased sink, garbage disposal, sink trap, kitchen faucet, air gaps and three water valves. Having had a very positive experience the last time I called Reliable Plumbing & Heating Service now out of Sand City I called them close to quitting time on a Wednesday late afternoon. The person answering the phone could not get to their scheduling charts until the following day and they told me that they would call me at 8:00 am the following morning. I told them that my wife has been without a kitchen sink for about and month now and if they could schedule us a soon as possible. I got a call at 8:00 am the following morning and was told that they just had a cancelation and could install our sink this morning. That was great news for the wife and they sent out Joseph Aguilar who I was happy to see again who had previously fixed an underground water leak for us that other plumbing companies I called could not locate. Joseph did a great job installing our kitchen sink as he is very friendly, extremely competent and whom I would strongly recommend if you need the services of a plumber. read more

They came to flush my water heater, and I asked them to look at the bide for filter cleaning. He looked at and read the manual, told me that I have make a separate appointment. They called and left 2 voice messages to make an appointment so they can come clean the water filter on the bide. I returned their call, while on hold the message kept telling just opposed the other companies they would give the estimate upfront. I asked about the estimation and the lady told me that they don't give upfront estimation. I reminded the message, and also their tech already has seen the bide and read the manual, he should be able to give estimate. She wanted $89 truck fee for estimate. I reminded again that their tech has already seen the job. The lady said that they had no record or mentioning of it from the tech. After calling me twice and leaving me a message twice, she was telling me they had no information about my request. I guess, she forgot she already called and left two messages about job she denied that she had no knowledge about it. I was surprised that how easy for her lie. my grandmother bought a water heater from this place. Still under warranty. I had the house fumigated and PGE had to turn the gas off. When PGE came to turn it back on, they said igniter switch was broken. They were able to turn the gas on with a lighter. I called Reliable plumbing and they said we were still under warranty and there would be no charge. They came out. said they couldn't do anything because the heater was on. Why didn't they tell me that over the phone. Then the guy said I had to pay $79 for coming out?!?! Why wasn't I told this before? They said I was under warranty . What a rip off!. Well, I guess I have a different understanding of the word "reliable"? Called to make an appointment to get my heater serviced (by the way temperatures have literally been freezing here), and was told that the earliest appointment was several days away. I understand that people get busy, so I waited patiently while wearing lots of clothes in the house, buying a space heater, and trying to keep warm. I was also told it would be $199.00 dollars to diagnose the issue, even though PG&E had already come out and diagnosed the issue and given me a detailed write up of what the problem was. My appointment day came and went, and no one ever showed up. I called the office and no one answered (the phone just rang and rang). I called back and left a message. . .I never heard back. So, I recommend that you call someone else unless you like the feel of freezing weather inside your house. read more

This is by far the WORSE service I have ever received from a service company. We have insurance from American Water Resources and put in a claim last March asking to find us a plumber to unclog a drain. They put us in touch with this "Unreliable" Plumbing service which blew us off and never showed up because they weren't available and no other plumbers were available under contract to American Resources. They also told us we could get our own plumber and submit the charge to get a refund to American Resources. I forgot to do so and now I wish I had. Fast forward to today... the exact same thing happened again!!! I don't think they have any other plumbers contracted besides this "unreliable" one. They again blew us off. Said they called multiple time but we've been here all day and the phone never rang (from them; The phone works.). I am still waiting to hear back from the insurance agent but that's the last time I will work with them. Who has all day to wait for a service person who never arrives? On two different occasions we have needed a plumber when our regularly used plumber was not available. Reliable Plumbing was able to work us in and have a plumber come out. They are a little more expensive than some other plumbers, but they were able to get the jobs done. They were able to change out a kitchen faucet that we were unable to change ourselves. The old faucet was corroded like a piece of cement. The new faucet was finally installed, and they honored the quote they had given us even though it wasn't an easy job. read more

When I lost hot water and started calling for help, Reliable was the most responsive. They were at my house within four hours when others were saying I had to wait days. The technician Nick was knowledgeable and helpful. Why only four stars? Because their pricing was sky high for the repair. To be fair, they told me the price ahead of time and I could have said no (and waited days with no hot water), but I needed the fix done and so bit the bullet and came to an agreed price with them (which was modestly lower than the original quote). All I am hearing are justifications and pathetic apologies, which is exactly what I experienced. Paid $919 for a motor transducer (I think that's what it's called), but it turned out to not be the issues. Despite it not being the issue, they still charged me for the part and wouldn't take it back. They said it was bc they had agreed to only take back the part and prorate my price if I proceeded with replacing the furnice entirely, which I was considering. Also said they don't warranty parts for old furnices, which no warranty was necessary...it's common sense...the part simply was not the issues...it's not that the part malfunctioned and we needed to reel in warranty to fix it again. The technician who helped us was obviously fishing to pitch a new furnice to "truly fix the furnice." Well, I wanted to be involved in the process of pricing and choosing a furnice, but of course, they chose for me. Not only was I clear on wanting to be involved in the process, they simply called me claiming I owed now $4,600 for a furnice I didn't choose. They said they chose for me bc companies are running short on them & they didn't want me to be mad at them for ordering delays....but I wouldn't have been CLEAR to keep me involved if I didn't know that...they said "oh, well you said you were guna call us but u didn't so we chose for you." Excuse me? How about you be professional and call the customer...??? They also said they couldn't itemize a receipt bc "we don't do that here, the price is the price for everyone." Last I checked, I'm a grown ass adult. No one in their right mind spends almost $5,000 without knowing wth they are buying. No itemized receipt? That's ridiculous, and suspicious if you ask me. They claimed they couldn't tell what exactly they were changing bc "we don't do that here, we only do one total price." Bunch of b/s if you ask me. A different company I know happily said they would never charge their customers for a part that did not fix the underlying issue of a furnice. For every complaint, it seems that stating "we've been in business for 30yrs" is their played out response. It's no antidote, and it doesn't solve anything in present time!! They simply try to sound like they are honest and "reliable." This company is obviously not customer oriented. Take your money elsewhere. I will update on the other company we've moved forward with. And please, don't respond with your played out, "contact us and we'll discuss this further" b/s. Been there, done that, you guys made it clear where you stand...Unless you want to refund me my $919, let your lack of resolution, dishonesty, and shadiness speak for itself. read more

After a series of power outages our heater stopped blowing the heat through the vents. It started but no heat was dispersed. I contacted Reliable and they set up an appointment in 2 days (given the amount of problems the storms raised in our area - I was happy to get a response and appointment). Jose showed up on time, was able to assess and fix the problem (heater igniter). He was fast, efficient, friendly and explained exactly what was wrong and provided us with an assessment and a suggestion that it was likely that, due to the age of the furnace, it would need replacing and to start thinking about what we would want. He also offered Reliable's services when that time came. No hard sell, just information. And I was able to redeem a credit from an email Reliable had sent last month. I will definitely use them in the future. read more

we had a blockage from our clean out to the sewer line in front of our home. Reliable plumbing and heating came out for a service fee of $89. Upon arrival I was charged the $89. plus additional 299. for a total $388, to clean out the line. After an hour I heard the snake hitting a pipe just underneath the toilet, opposite direction of sewer line. I mention this to the plumber, three times, he insisted the snake was moving in the right direction, however we either had a collapse pipe or a root infiltrated the pipe. He would have to come back at $165. Per hour, per worker. so I chose my gardener to dig, no pipe located at spot marked by plumber. at this point I am at a loss of $700. Problem remained, my gardener rented a snake and in 10 mins cleared the line. I called reliable, the supervisor said, "sometimes the snake goes the wrong way",she said the gardener got LUCKY, but would speak to owner and get back to me, she or owner have not reached out to us, it's been 3 days. We paid Reliable plumbing for absolutely nothing other than misleading information. read more

I have an overflow valve in the front of my house, that over flowed on Sunday night Nov. 27,2022. I started calling first thing Monday morning. I got a hold of Reliable Plumbing and they were not available until Wednesday. I agreed to an afternoon 1-4 pm appointment. Wednesday afternoon 2:30pm I call to find out when was my tech coming. He was hung up on another job and could not make it to my house. So much for "Reliable". I rescheduled for Thursday afternoon, unfortunately it was pouring down rain on Thursday. My overflow valve is under a wood deck that was designed to give easy access to the valve. When Mario came to house he told me I had to pay $174. additional to the $79. to show up and the $229. to snake the line. I had no choice to agree. If I had known there would be a charge to remove the board I would have done it myself and saved $174. Mario was able to snake the line easily and remove the blockage. Not happy about their unwillingness to give some on the "difficult access charge" for removing a board with 4 screws. read more

Our furnace was shut off for about a week by PG and E because a small amount of gas leaked while it started up. We were desperate to find anyone who could fix the furnace in our cold house. Repairman said he didn't do older furnaces, would look up a part and get back to us. Then he charged us a fee for the service call. Do yourself a favor. Don't call a plumber to fix a heater. Look for heating repair services in your area instead. The heating repairman didn't even find a leaky part, just a pilot light malfunction. read more

I hired Reliable Plumbing to help us out in detecting a propane leak to the guest house of our property. They work closely with their company of choice, American Leak Detection, to get the job complete. They had previously coordinated between their different schedules to address the job and what each others responsible were. This is where it all fell apart. So where do I start. First, American Leak Detection shows up to the property before Reliable Plumbing had capped the gas lines and preformed a pressure test. Therefore, American Leak Detection couldn't do their job. They left without doing any work and handed me a bill for $315. Later that day, Reliable Plumbing shows up to cap the lines. I immediately complained that this should have been done before American Leak Detection showed up and that due to their error, I was being charged $315. After speaking with managers from both companies, it felt like I was in middle school. Both companies assured me that it wasn't their fault and kept pointing the finger at the other company. After multiple hours of time spent on the phone and nothing resolved, I had to pay the $315. How can either company blame the client for their scheduling error. I couldn't believe how bad their customer service was. To top it off, after speaking with the manager from Reliable Plumbing, he said that the technician didn't properly cap off the lines and he had to come back down to the property before we could test for the propane leak. Again they were going to charge me for their incompetence. Therefore, I decided that I had enough of Reliable Plumbing and asked the the technician reconnect all the lines to my house that he had capped off. Please note, our house didn't have the propane leak, it is the line that goes to the guest house. After "completing the job", the technician assured me that everything was working properly at my house. However, he couldn't reignite the pilot light on my water heater. He determined that I needed a new one, even though it has had no problems for the last 10 years. He had a great unit he recommended. He also told me that I should replace one of the valves to the stove. I asked how much. $175 for a new one! This part can be purchased at Home Depot for under $30. I told him I needed to do some more "research" and wrote him a check for the work that he had done. $850 bucks for disconnecting and reconnecting a couple lines, what a joke. But the best is for last. I went to try to ignite my propane stove and it wouldn't light. Not only was my water heater not working, but now the stove. Again both appliances have had zero issues for 10 years. Now Reliable Plumbing comes and all of a sudden, they think I need to upgrade and get new units. I once again complained to the manager that in fact, the propane line to the house wasn't working. He said he would send out a technician the following day. I myself know a bit about plumbing and took apart the stove and water heater. About an hour later, I have both units working just fine. Giving a rating of one star is too gracious. This company deserves a zero for not only their customer service, but also their incompetence in their technicians. They charge you top dollar and you get shit service. Bob K I called them and they came out to help me with my heater. I had no heat. Steve charged me a lot to light the pilot light. The next week I didn't have heat again so I called them back and he changed me again to light the pilot light again and he replaced a part. Steve said it's ok now. Two days later my wife smelled gas bad coming from the heater, so I called again and they said to call PG&E. They came out in ten minutes, he was under the house for 45 minutes fixing everything that Steve did. My heater works fine now! I will never call them again! I gave them one star because I had to put something in. read more

The fan on my furnace stopped working over the weekend. On Monday morning I called Reliable Plumbing and Heating around 8:30 AM for an appointment for a service call. The telephone was answered promptly by a very courteous person, I believe her name was Shellie (sorry if that is spelled wrong), who promised to have a technician to us by the afternoon. Good to her word she called mid afternoon and said that Technician Brandon was on the way. Brandon diagnosed the problem and said he needed to order a part, but the part should be in within a few days and he would come right out and fix the problem. He was very polite and courteous, even apologized when he gave us the quote, which was reasonable by the way, we signed the contract. He did not ask for the service call fee when he left. First thing Thursday morning Reliable called and said Brandon was on the way with the part for our furnace. He not only did the repair but he cleaned the furnace and filters and included the initial visit fee within the final bill so we only had to pay once. Reliable Plumbing and Heating was fast, courteous, reasonably priced and as I live in Seaside I was happy to support a local business. I will definitely call them for any needs in the future. read more

Reliably Professional Reliably Expensive- 5 Stars for Mario, who installed a new water heater and brought it up to code. Minus 4 stars for price gouging!!! 2200$ for a $750 water heater installed in less than 3 hours. Even with the extra parts to bring to code, materials cost less than a thousand dollars that leaves $1200 divided by 3 hrs = $400 per hour!!!! If you have a flat rate why couldn't you give the price over the phone rather than send someone out with a 90$ fee just to tell us the set price?? It sounds like you run a good business but everything you said does not justify $400 an hour . Yes it was Saturday and I'm only home on the weekends so you had me over a barrel. Like I said it was a quality job. Instead of 5 star I give 5 $$$$$ ! I see you removed/ edited the part where you charge a flat rate and some plumbers take longer than others. How much living wage do you pay your plumbers? Nothing you have said justifies 1,100 - 1,200$ just in labor costs for 2 1/2 hrs work. My review would be much better if you just charged an hourly rate and parts. In an earlier comment you said it's a flat rate and Mario said it was a flat rate. Now you have changed it. read more

These guys were great. Mario came out not once, but three times to take care of our sewer. We had a backup, then by the time we got service it wasn't visible and seemed to be working when he left after the first visit. Started using everything as normal and catching up on 4 days worth of dishes, a few hours later the sewer was backed up again. He came back out the same day and couldn't get it with the equipment he had, but scheduled us for first thing the next morning. Don't call them. These people are con artists! I just arrived at my home in Carmel last night and found the heat not working. I called this company up in the morning and the lady on the phone said we will charge you $59 for a house call and the tech will "diagnose the problem" and then unite you a price to fix it. Fair enough but when the guy showed up he tells me the 59 is just to drive his van to our house, Then he needs to charge me $174 to crawl under the house to check the pilot light and furnace, and then PLUS maybe another $199 to do a furnace diagnostic test. Only after that could he tell me how much it might actually cost to fix the problem! (Assuming it wasn't just the pilot light). Not sure how they gave themselves the name Reliable Plumbing, but based on this experience, I'd say their word is anything but reliable! read more

Couldn't help giving a 5 star rating. My experience started off with the usual chaos of a plumbing emergency. Once I called the office to make an appointment they had someone at my door within a couple hours. As a delightful little bonus, they call you when the plumber is officially heading to your house! I've had terrible experiences with plumbers giving me a 6 hour window only to show up at the most inconvenient time, so this was wonderful. Once the guy arrived, he promptly diagnosed the issue, quoted me a price upfront, and discussed all my options for repair. After all was said and done days later, I received the nicest Thank you card with a coupon and magnet. Totally above and beyond both customer service and plumbing & heating "know-how". Will never look thru the phonebook for a plumber again. read more
