The installation crew and the main house solar.

After considering solar for a few years and doing research on companies in the area, we settled on A&R Solar. They are a B Corporation, employee owned and have a stellar reputation. From the planning, installation and execution of the system, we felt cared for! Our Design Consultant, Spencer Drew was friendly, knowledgeable and just wanted us to feel comfortable with the project. Solar is definitely an investment, however, I can already see the payoff. With the utility companies continuing to raise the rates each year, it's great to know that we are going to be in charge of what our own power cost and output. We had a 21KW system installed on both structures of our home and we were able to aggregate the meters to ensure that we would get maximum credits. We also purchased two Tesla batteries and had a Tesla EV charger installed on the home as well. The app is cool and shows us each day in real time what our system is producing and using! A&R Solar has been fantastic in their follow up and if we do solar again in the future, we will absolutely be choosing them again! Thank you for creating a beautiful system on our home and for making us feel like we are part of the team!

Update following the company's response:…read more I want to clarify one point raised in the owner's reply so readers understand the concern accurately. Yes, I mentioned that I would prefer the panels be placed on the rear of the home if possible. That was simply an aesthetic preference and not a design requirement. I relied on the company's expertise to determine whether that placement would still allow the system to reasonably meet the goals discussed during the sales process. I also want to be clear that the system functioning is not the issue. We appear to agree that the equipment is producing energy as designed. The production numbers themselves have never been what I questioned. The concern I raised relates to how the system size and expectations were presented during the sales process. When we explored going solar, the conversations centered around offsetting most or all of our electric bill, which was the primary reason we decided to move forward with a $20,000 installation. If it had been clearly communicated that the system was intended to be a smaller "starter system" that would only offset a portion of our electricity usage, we likely would have approached the decision differently or waited until we had a longer utility history available. Another important point is that no written proposal or modeling documentation outlining the assumed household usage or projected offset was ever provided prior to signing. Because those design assumptions were never shared with us in writing, it has been difficult to understand how the system size was determined relative to our expected energy needs. As a result, we are now paying a monthly solar loan while still carrying a meaningful electric bill, which is not the outcome we understood or expected when making this investment. At this point, I have shared my experience and clarified the concerns raised. I do not intend to continue a public back-and-forth discussion on this review. My purpose in posting this update is simply to provide context so other homeowners researching solar know to request clear written modeling and offset assumptions before making a significant investment.

My wife and I decided to put solar panels on our house. Because, you know...we're green. So, I…read moremade an appointment for the Auric salesperson to come to my house Tuesday at 1pm to discuss. Tuesday at 1:20pm, she hadn't arrived. So I called her cell phone. Voicemail. I left a message, reminding her of our appointment. At 1:30pm, I said "Screw it!" and went to Target. At 1:45pm, she called me at Target. It wasn't her fault, you see. Her scheduling software "malfunctioned" and double-booked her for the 1pm time slot. Sure. Anyway, she said she could be at my house in ten minutes. I told her, "Make it 20." To her credit, she arrived 90 minutes late on time this time. To her credit, she had the read-out and analysis of my house, the costs, and the projected energy savings on her laptop. Quite impressive. She answered all my questions. As we wrapped up, I said, "I need to discuss this with my wife. Can you send me a copy of that presentation?" "Sure, but...I am booked until 9pm tonight, so I won't be able to send them until tomorrow." Sure. That was six months ago. We never got the presentation, and we never heard from her again. Menos mal. The energy savings equalled (but did not exceed) the cost of the panels. There was no upside for taking the risk of a strange company drilling holes in our roof in the name of conservation. And there was certainly no possibility that we would hand-over a $20K check to this particular salesperson. I'd imagine is quite hard to lose a solar panel sale in the greater Portland area, but by golly...she earned that loss in spades.

The first couple of companies we went with were way overpriced and they were promising the moon. Upon further research. I came across Energy Solutions and was in contact with the owner texting back and forth about questions I had. They came out and did a site measurement and gave me an upfront and clear breakdown of what it would cost for the total project. Nothing was hidden. There were NO surprises at the end and was also able to have them install an interlock kit in case the power went out, and I needed to use my generator for the house. After two years of service, I've had no issues with the equipment, I also an email from their team checking in to make sure everything was good and if I had any questions, I could reach out to them at any time. I also recommended them to my neighbors as I had such a great experience. One of my neighbors went with a different company and he has had total regrets on why he chose that company for his solar. If you are looking for a great, transparent solar company, you will not regret your decision.
