Update following the company's response:…read more I want to clarify one point raised in the owner's reply so readers understand the concern accurately. Yes, I mentioned that I would prefer the panels be placed on the rear of the home if possible. That was simply an aesthetic preference and not a design requirement. I relied on the company's expertise to determine whether that placement would still allow the system to reasonably meet the goals discussed during the sales process. I also want to be clear that the system functioning is not the issue. We appear to agree that the equipment is producing energy as designed. The production numbers themselves have never been what I questioned. The concern I raised relates to how the system size and expectations were presented during the sales process. When we explored going solar, the conversations centered around offsetting most or all of our electric bill, which was the primary reason we decided to move forward with a $20,000 installation. If it had been clearly communicated that the system was intended to be a smaller "starter system" that would only offset a portion of our electricity usage, we likely would have approached the decision differently or waited until we had a longer utility history available. Another important point is that no written proposal or modeling documentation outlining the assumed household usage or projected offset was ever provided prior to signing. Because those design assumptions were never shared with us in writing, it has been difficult to understand how the system size was determined relative to our expected energy needs. As a result, we are now paying a monthly solar loan while still carrying a meaningful electric bill, which is not the outcome we understood or expected when making this investment. At this point, I have shared my experience and clarified the concerns raised. I do not intend to continue a public back-and-forth discussion on this review. My purpose in posting this update is simply to provide context so other homeowners researching solar know to request clear written modeling and offset assumptions before making a significant investment.

We ended up speaking with several of the big solar installers and another couple smaller ones. They all wanted us to take huge low interest loans to buy a lower quality system than what we got with Smart Solar Energy. Smart Solar Energy allowed is to choose the equipment we wanted at no extra cost, and the overall cost was less than half what many others were trying to sell us. The install was delayed by a day because of illness then some paperwork wasn't left requiring a few extra days during install, but other than that they were great to work with and I highly recommend Smart Solar Energy.

Elemental Energy has been outstanding in post customer care. In the eight years since I've had my system, I've only had two issues which were properly taken care of. The project manager in 2008 was absolutely awful. Poor communication and someone quit so my project got pushed to no-man zone- no one was taking care of my project or communicating clearly about what was going on. I didn't write a review in 2008 because I was upset about the process. However, eight years later, the install is absolutely fantastic and the product has held up really well. Plus the person who was so awful is likely gone so thinking you'll have a better experience than I did. I'm getting quotes on battery and they are the first person I called

Our house was built in the late 1960's. Which means that the outlet plugs and other components that were installed back then (over 50 years ago) have become brittle. Jostle them a bit and they can fracture. This happened to the circuit for the room on the other side of the Battery install. Apparently they jostled the wires running to one of those outlets and it fractured it, disabling that circuit. It being a guestroom, we didn't notice it right away. When we did, Elemental did not hesitate to step up. I would use Elemental Energy again if I needed any of their services in the future.

This process started with initial deposit 8/29/25, and I just powered the system on today, 10/22/25- just about 7 weeks start to finish. Their system of communication is pretty great- I heard from various people as the process unfolded, and they made sure to notify me of communication from my utility company (Pacific Power) to sign off on the net-metering agreement. At one point, Emma pulled Brian (one of the owners) onto a call to answer some specific questions I had about permitting. They were always quick to respond, and demonstrated expertise every step of the way- which eased any concerns I had about the process. Feel confident that they are knowledgeable, trustworthy and professional- I highly recommend GR Solar

They needed to install a smoke/heat detector in my house. I have dark hardwood floors and grey blown in insulation which is very dusty. Cut a 2" x 4" hole in the ceiling and dropped it on the floor. The insulation went on the floor as well as the pieces of wire he cut off. Then asks me if I have something to clean it up with. When they finally finished they left 2 pallets of trash in my garage for 8 days so I couldn't park my car in there. Failed inspection because of mistakes a first year apprentice wouldn't make. Went to the addresses on their website and found an empty office building and someones house. They came back 3 weeks later to take photos of their work. One and a half hours late for that meeting. Opens up all the panels, take pics, then relables panel doors because they're wrong. So, are the lables wrong now or before? If I could have given no stars I would have.
