Worst A & W ever. What a disappointment. Had my heart set on A & W rootbeer I should have paid attention to the horrible reviews the one in Grass Valley received and NOT gone there tonight. NO way was the root beer regular. The girl on the register we heard her ask what was going on with the root beer, then served it to us. Best case scenario it was diet. Tasted awful. Then I asked for a Papa burger without onions and pickles. Well of course it had both on it and our burgers were COLD. If you want A & W, choose another one or go to Sizzler in Auburn and make your own. Horrible service and don't appreciate being lied to by the girl. If your machine is having a problem, she could have been HONEST and given us a choice to pick something else. I told my husband first time I just wanted a refund and leave. this has been my go to stop on the way home from work for years....after 10+ hours of working in the sun, all I'd want is a large rootbeer and a bite to eat. I'd race from the other side of the river to make it before closing...usually with 10min to spare...and sit in the parking lot enjoying the liquid gold that is their root beer. that would all change this year. the last couple of months, I come by and they're closed. granted, I normally get there close to closing, and have been told that since there's no chicken left they closed early...but tonight I got there at 930, a half hour before the advertised closing time. left work a few minutes early to try to make it since they closed 20min early last week. tonight I get there at 930, place is closed,again, driveway washed, no signs of life. sadly, my weekly stops have been a bust this summer, and I've been left with choosing between McDonald's, burger king, taco bell, or jack. they're not a&w. really bummed that i don't get to eat here anymore. seriously, if this place is going to close a half hour early regularly, change the posted hours already. read more

Horrible customer service. Not worth the wait. It should not take 15 minutes waiting at the drive thru intercom to get anyone to respond or take an order. This is with one customer in front at the window and two waiting behind us. Additinally, this does not include the time it took to get to the intercom after being behind 2 vehicles to begin with. I will not be coming here again. The food is not worth the trouble, and they don't care about the quality of service, at all. Even tried calling the store while at the intercom, no answer. If I could give this place no stars, I would! Service was absolutely terrible. The food was horrible. The potato wedges were so dark and gross inside it was obvious they haven't changed the frier oil in months. We asked for new ones which took almost 10 minutes and came out like the old ones. One of the super stones brought them out to us but that extent of the ok service. The chicken strips were tiny and super brown. The cookie was very old and stale (super crunchy and smelled odd, like mold). The worst part was the employees that seemed to be super high and screwing around in the kitchen. We could hear them cursing and playing around. Thank goodness we were just passing through. Do yourself a favor and keep driving. Don't eat there! I am concerned we may get sick now. read more

No root beer, cold burgers, food and dirt all over the floor. The employees are screaming and messing around. There was water on the floor, I slipped and almost fell. The food is terrible. Other than the obnoxious horseplay going on in the back of the kitchen, it's completely silent in here. There is no music playing and we are all left to sit here and wonder what life would've been like if we kept driving past this terrible location! Huge thumbs down!!! read more

Every time I'm here, they take forever, and have us pull up front to wait. The long haired ginger guy, messed up the order, then made it very slow, while on the phone. The least they could've done is make it last good. HARD. AS. A. ROCK. Fries, and RB was good though. read more

While I've been in GV for some time, I just went to A&W for the first time. It's a split store with KFC so you know it when you're looking for it. Their menu is simple, and always has been. I had a Coney dog and mini corn dogs, which are great! And of course, an A&W root beer float that I hadn't had in ages. Great prices, and great quality food. The staff was really nice too! The first thing they tell us when we arrive to this establishment, is that they are out of root beer. How are they out of root beer at an A&W you may ask? This question may never be answered. The place is filthy inside, and my mom almost slipped and fell on a puddle of water. When my mom told the employee at the front counter that she almost fell, the employee stated "oh, sorry. I was mopping right there.". We order our food and wait between ten and fifteen minutes. We get our food, and my parents burgers are cold. My dad specifically asked for onion rings and they gave him fries. I only had two tiny pieces of chicken in my famous bowl. We sent our food back and had to wait another ten minutes. They said they would "heat them up for us". Instead, we had them remake the burgers completely. Instead of double stack burgers, they bring back singles. They didn't offer us any type of silverware with our food, nor did they offer any dipping sauces for the food. The employees were horsing around so loudly in the kitchen, screaming even. This is absolutely despicable behavior. Not only did we have to deal with the nasty food, we had to deal with sitting in this dirty establishment in complete silence (other than the screaming and horseplay), there was no music playing. When they did finally play music, it was on their phone in the back. Lil Wayne I believe. Definitely not a great business genre. WE WERE THE ONLY PEOPLE IN THE ENTIRE RESTAURANT AND THEY WERE STILL UNABLE TO DO THEIR JOBS. All in all I wish we would've went somewhere else. This place used to be our favorite family stop, and now unfortunately it looks like we're removing it from the fav list after over 10 years of visiting. I'm definitely one disappointed customer!!!! I was on my to offroading to a ghost town high up on some cliffs so all I wanted was something quick and easy. We ordered burgers they were like sandpaper their was a gristle on them maybe burnt pieces or it fell on the floor? Its hard to know for sure but my sons corn dog bites were missing and his fry. When I went to pay at drive through even though they were not busy they told me I would have to wait out front for our food as they had nothing ready. Come on all it was is burgers and fries but whatever. I sat there for 10 minutes only for the lady to bring me an incomplete order. I then seen the same two staff hanging outside talking to some dude or friend of theirs. I am not stupid I know when people are slacking and boy they were here! So again I had to wait even longer the manager returned brought me the rest of the order threw in an extra fry. I realize the gesture was nice but it still did not make up for how long I had to wait or that they messed up a simple order. Now my GF will never eat here again this is our second time we went to A&W and probably our last. Service could have been better they get a plus for friendliness but the wait times, food and them taking your order is a headache. They messed up my order more then once at drive through and I figured they would when serving me my food. I am a busy guy things to do, people to meet and places to journey at. The last thing I want to do is spend an hour at drive through when I am trying to beat the sun going down up in the sierras so I can offroad. Thanks to A&W my adventure was shortened it must be nice to have all day chilling out chitter chattering but others have lives and things to do! Therefore they only get two stars I believe this fast food joint needs allot of improvement! read more
