What a gem, absolutely adore this business! A simple unpretentious hole in the wall with history as good and authentic as the pasties themself. The young lady at the counter was super helpful as I asked dozens of questions, promising to return to purchase her hand made product. I'm sure she was surprised when I actually returned with our party of 4 (kinda toasted from sitting in the ac at Gary's place across the street, separate review coming for them)to get a good variety of everything. I took pics and learned that Elizabeth is Marie Marshall's grand daughter and of course cuz they both have contagious smiles and a serious passion about traditional Cornish Pasties. 4 generations doing great stuff in downtown Grass valley. These aren't "Chef-y" concoctions trying to be cool just traditional pasties from across the pond. Righteous work ladies !

My first pasty ever and I loved every bit of it. We got the beef, and it was like a juicy meatloafy empanada. The vinegar and ketchup were delicious and a must. Cute lil shop, took cash or check only, and it was extremely cozy and original inside. Everytime I'm in Grass Valley, I will always try to get one now, and hopefully try the other flavors!

I recognized this food from the time I spent in New Zealand, where they are everywhere. It seems this traditional mining food that came from England had been very popular in this area due to its mining history. Great to see the historical food still being served in the area. The shop had a very simple and basic ambience, but lens itself to the hard-working honesty of the miner. This is one of two pasty shops in town and I'm not sure which one is definitively the best, but... this one cost half as much as the other... You be the judge.

I drove by the other day and knew that I had to come back and check them out. They offer several flavors to pick from and two different sizes mini and regular, I went with the regular. They are a cash or check only place with limited street parking and no public restrooms. The inside seating area is small and good for groups of two.

Still so very good and comforting food. Ordered to go , and heated them up later. Wholesome ingredients, packed with flavor, and very reasonably priced. There is a reason why they sell out early...

My beautiful wife and I were watching a short YouTube video about pasties in Grass Valley. The video featured Marshall's so we thought we'd check it out when we came to visit. Marshall's is a small place with a few tables and chairs inside. Bring cash, as they do not accept cards. I ordered the chicken pastie and my wife ordered the sausage. Our selection was limited since it was later in their work hours and they were out of a lot of stuff. The pasties were delicious! I think I liked the sausage one the best. I am definitely going to learn how to make them myself. Please give this place a try if you are ever in Grass Valley. Visit earlier in the day so there maybe a larger selection!

Wow! My husband and I were so excited to try pasties knowing their history and origin and this place is absolutely incredible. The pasties are delicious. These pasties you could eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The shop is small and intimate and the ladies working there are all so lovely. If you are traveling through I suggest bringing a cooler to take some home as we regret not bringing our own cooler to take some back with us. We are definitely going to be back and we will be loading up on pasties!

Mystery meat textured beef, no vegetables, and a soft/soggy crust. This is nothing like the pasties in Cornwall :(

Stopped here on the way back to SF. I don't know why people are writing "authentic" in their reviews because these are nothing like pasties from Cornwall. I ordered the beef, it was just filled with weird beef that was the texture of mystery meet and potatoes. There were no vegetables, like in a real Cornish pastie, and it was totallly BLAND. The crust of a real, baked Cornish pasties is supposed to be thick, firm, buttery, crumbly, and flaky - they have a glossy sheen. The crust on this one was genuinely like a hot pocket. I hate to say this, but this was the hot pocket version of a Cornish Pastie. Giving two stars because the lady behind the counter was nice and the service was fast.

My wife and I had a fun and educational experience. Every menu item was fairly-priced (all the same price). The sit-down area might accommodate about 10 people comfortably. It was fun and tasty!

    Small beef pasty. 5 bucks.

I saw someone complain about the house-made ketchup, but I liked it! And it was also toddler approved by my daughter. My Husband got the habanero burger and he said that is what a spicy burger should be! I got the basic burger and loved it. The only thing I would add are pickles LOL. But the bun was so fresh and the burger was the perfect size. It was busy since it was a Sunday but we waited maybe 10-15 minutes for our food, and it was nice and cool inside. Oh and the chocolate malt was 10/10. We will definitely be back.

The lettuce on our burgers was fresh, crisp, quality lettuce (some sort of spring mix perhaps?). I do wish they had thousand island sauce as I was not the biggest fan of their special sauce (it tasted -- and looked like-- tarter sauce and thousand island had a baby and then you mellowed it out with a ton of mayo). Fries were salty but fresh tasting (no old oil, yeah!). It was clean inside the restaurant, as was the restroom. The shake was phenomenal. The service was fast and the employees were kind to my kids despite being busy (as my kids requested to post their coloring pages with the others on the wall).

The heat lamps were on in the enclosed area out front and they have cushions for the wrought iron chains and a shelf of blankets for customers to use. Complimentary Chilean bread rolls brought to the table right away with garlic herb butter, salsa verde sauce (chimicuri like) so good, made the old fashioned way with pork fat. Calamari Frito, Cajun seasoning, light and crunchy with a house made tarter sauce (excellent server brought us an additional tarter) Crab stuffed chili Relleno was a creative version of this meal I've eaten dozens of times, feta and a sweet sauce with the rock crab was delicious. Panqueque especial ,chorizo had a little kick but was cooled off by the pineapple and sweetness of the crepe. All baked together with rice, cheese, guac, veggie's on the side, this was a big meal that was packed with a savory mix of flavors,my favorite thing I sampled. Honey shirachi shrimp, jalapeno, bacon, pineapple,on slaw. Big shrimp, big taste in the sauce, excellent appetizer or can be ordered as a full meal. I'll reserve judgment on the vegetarian entre options until we have tried more. First try was a bit bland even with ordering extra hot peppers. The vegetarian taco is a nice option, but it really tastes like a tofu scramble in a tortilla. In other words, it is great that there is a vegetarian taco option. It is unfortunate that it feels like an afterthought.

We stopped in about 4:30pm on a Saturday, and the place was a madhouse. So many people in line you could hardly hear the workers behind the counter when they talked to you. With that, their service was fairly positive. The issue was the food was a big letdown compared to experiences I've had at other locations. The volume of lettuce was overwhelming but the volume of meat was underwhelming. I always order a California Club (which seems to be off menu here) but is a Turkey, Bacon, Avocado sandwich. I just get it Mikes way. They put so much oil and vinegar on it, that it was a soggy mess when I sat down to eat it back at the house, which is about 6 minutes away. The bread was drenched, soggy and falling apart. There was so little avocado on it that I questioned it was even there until I peeled the sandwich open. The other members of our group ordered a Philly cheesesteak sandwich, and had never had Jersey Mikes before. They rated it a 4/10. Like most new establishments, they have links to get out, and hopefully that's all that was happening here. We'll give them another try a few months down the line and see if the foods improved.
