I had a very disappointing experience for a just a milkshake. Usually for 6.00 , I would just forget about it and not go back, but the way the whole situation played out, this was just aggravating. I did an online order so I can do a pick up and went through the proper channels and made sure the correct store was in. I went to the Lake George location and let the cashier know that I had a pickup and he just nodded and said okay. For a Thursday afternoon it was very slow for this time of year. I can see that no one is making anything, just stocking cups and utensils. After about 15 minutes, they start taking orders and I'm still standing there. I asked again and looked at my text stating it was ready and he told me that he did not receive an order. I then I noticed an email stating my order is ready in Hales Corner WI. The guy behind told me that this happens sometimes and its a glitch. He then made my milkshake and charged me. I told I already paid and he said that I would have to call the Hales Corner WI location and get the refund. I stated that this answer makes no sense. He said that while its through A&W website, it gets funneled through Doordash. I called the Hales Corner location and they told me this is not uncommon, but I have to go through Doordash. After 45 minutes with Doordash CS, who also admits this issue happens from time to time, they threw A&W under the bus. It annoyed me that no one wanted to take responsibility. Went here yesterday after visiting the area. The closest food place was A&W, so we stopped there. First time visiting, so I'll start with the young man taking the orders, which wasn't really pleasant or welcoming at all. I said "hi," and he said nothing back, lol. We ordered the chicken tender combo; we weren't asked grilled or breaded. When we got the order, it was grilled tenders. So we had to return them for breaded tenders. The chicken tender combo is $20, and I find that pretty overpriced. But I can say they tasted regular just like chicken tenders lol. They have a nice little outdoor seating area, which I thought was pretty nice. Overall, this place is just okay. I wouldn't come back here though. read more

Do not go here. I've been coming here since I was a little kid and this place has gone to shit in the last 2 years. Entire staff doesn't even speak English and they have AirPods in while they work. Waited behind someone for 15 minutes who waited when it was just us and them at the entire place. Overheard that their order was wrong. Then they got my entire order wrong. Overcharged me almost $15 as well. Told me they were out of root beer floats AFTER I ordered and paid for one. Going downhill fast. As other's have mentioned, there's no more wait staff. It's a pickup window and you seat yourself. One plus was that I see the burgers have gotten larger than when I had last reviewed. However, they screwed up orders left and right. My stepdaughter was the one who ordered the burger and it was supposed to be a double. She received a single. The souvenir mugs we get each year was supposed to have the year printed on it like I asked for. Ours didn't. My SO and I each got the foot long chili cheese hot dog. If you like it overflowing with cheese and sauce to the point where the hot dog is buried underneath, then this is for you. We had to engineer a way to eat this thing without getting it everywhere. You can't just pick it up like a regular hot dog. Unless you want to wear it. I can't see myself coming to this restaurant too much more in the future. Not for food at least. It's a shame as it's been a Lake George tradition for years. I have mugs dating back to 2008. A quick stop for an ice cream and a root beer is as far as I'd recommend you go. Two chili cheese foot longs, a burger, two root beers, and a root beer float with souvenir mug came to over $60. New Way Lunch is about 10 minutes up the road near Warrensburg. I haven't been there yet, but it looks like a great local place to grab yourself some lunch. read more

We stopped in for lunch and ordered a double cheeseburger combo with fries and a root beer and chicken tenders with a Thai tea. The burger tasted like cheap meat, worse than the burgers you got in high school. The fries weren't bad, and the root beer tasted good as A&W root beer always does. The chicken fingers weren't bad but nothing great and the Thai tea tasted horrible, and we should've known not to order it from this place. The parking lot is tight. This classic, old-timey spot on the outskirts of Lake George Village can still bring it! Sure, they have sadly (but probably wisely) discontinued the roller skating servers that I remember from my youth, but still the same charming little hut from which you can order some presumably unhealthy but still incredibly tasty burgers, hot dogs and fried appetizers and enjoy some comfortable outdoor seating which, let's be honest, is a bit neater and more comfortable than in car dining. While I'm always a fan of French fries, particular kudos for the onion rings and jalapeño poppers here--one of the rare spots where I might recommend these over the fries (or, you know... why not all?). And of course it feels virtually impossible to stop here and not order a delightful, frosty, unctuous root beer float. Charming, fun, easy, tasty... just a nice little vacation spot. read more

Floats were good though we all would've preferred a ratio with more ice cream, less root beer. Double-fried fries were good. This is a classic drive-in facility. Carhop, take-away and picnic tables are all in play. Parking is a bit limited, they mostly cater to walkup from Canada Street tourist/vacationers. Menu is basic grill comfort food, with beverages focused on their trademark rootbeer and floats. Staff is friendly at the order window, pricing is fine for what it is. Food comes out timely and it quite tasty. Burgers, chili dogs and tenders dominate the menu. Tables are clean and the atmosphere is casual and pleasant. This is a seasonal location, so warm weather only. And all dining is outdoor, so bear that in mind for extreme cold/heat and any rain. This was a favorite for many years, since I was a kid. Unfortunately, it is under new ownership as of 2023 and they have changed nearly everything that was charming about this place. Staples of A&W restaurants across the country include service at your car with trays that hook onto your windows (car hop), root beer in frosted mugs, and, at this location in particular, an extensive soft serve ice cream menu. I believe they had over 60 flavors of soft serve ice cream available. New ownership has removed all of that. Now, you walk up to a window and order you food, walk up to another window and pick up your food, and sit at some tables behind the restaurant to eat. For ice cream, you have some pretty basic selections that are not nearly as good as what used to be. This place was the same since 1959, and they have removed pretty much everything that made it unique. You might as well go eat anywhere else you can get a burger. I'm so disappointed in the new ownership. The atmosphere has changed completely instead of the great waitstaff they used to have you now have to order and pick up from a window. This means no more car hop service, and unless you want to buy a mug, the root beer is now in a paper cup that doesn't keep it near as cold as a glass mug. Finally the food, I ordered the fish, and I got 3 small pieces that, if you stretch the imagination, could be called fish. For a $18 dollars , the portion is ridiculously small. I get inflation, but I for a few dollars more I can go to a sit-down restaurant, pay the same price, and get a decent piece of fish as well as full customer service. This place was a pleasant surprise. We went to the A&W in Nebraska and the kids really wanted to go to another. It's typical fast food. I got the BLT but was surprised that it came on a sesame bun. It had plenty of fresh lettuce and tomatoes. There were three thick slices of bacon. It wasn't bad. My daughter got mac and cheese kids meal. Typical box stuff but she loves it. Her kids meal came with a free ice cream. My son was pleased with his chili cheese dog. My husband had the hot chicken nuggets. He said the hot sauce was good. The price for everyone was reasonable. But the real reason for this place is the fun atmosphere. There's only outdoor seating. The waitress was great. She was patient, cheerful, and really hustled. The place was quirky. The seafood is very fresh! I was surprised, the fish was the freshest my friend had tried, and the fried clams I ate were extremely fresh and delicious! But I'm not gonna lie, I have a problem with the rolls being -- basically plain bread with nothing, and fried seafood placed on it. They could have had some toppings, ie pickles, and more sauces -- not just dry bread out of the bag with seafood pieces thrown on it. And that bread could have been toasted or SOMETHING, just anything more was necessary. Very nice outdoor seating area! Bathroom is passable but really work on getting it as contactless as possible. You have to touch so many things with full contact because of how the sink and doorknob are - I wouldn't go unless an emergency. Popular place with many visitors. read more

It's not a bad place. The people are nice, it's just the food quality that's not that great. The food is fast food like hamburgers and hot dogs. But it's old so I already expected this. If you're into that then you might like it. Apparently it's the last A&W open so it gives you that old and musty kind of vibe. I like that they bring the order to your car but it's a small/tight parking lot. The A&W root beer is freshly made, which is very cool, but it tasted a bit different. They had a pick up window, but it said that was for servers only. Have them in the kitchen having things go faster. The servers were nice for sure, but looked exhausted and frustrated. Also, two other parties that arrived 15-20 min after got their food before. A&W is supposed to bring back memories of days gone by. Unfortunately, there are no more baby burgers or mama burgers, papa is the only original burger still there. The beverage - official A&W root beer - is also still there. Perfectly chilled mugs accompany your root beer or cream soda. Parking though is sparse. There are signs posted saying that parking on Route 9 will get you a ticket. Many still park on the roadway though it may be more of an issue once Memorial Day arrives. It is perhaps one of those memory problems that make the burgers of days gone by seem bigger and better. I ordered the "Bacon Double Cheeseburger" sandwich. It would have been lacking if I hadn't ordered the double. Perhaps as a kid that would have been a big sandwich. SO ordered the papa burger and agreed that there was more bun than burger. The server carelessly slammed the root beer float on the table spilling a large portion of the drink all over the place; without apologizing and rushed away. Chicken sliders are awful. The chicken is battered, not breaded-and way too thick for a slider. The breast meat was dry and overcooked with no flavor at all. Corn dog nuggets were tasty, but it would have been nice if they had a spicy mustard. They had either yellow mustard, or a cloyingly sweet honey mustard. This place is a staple in Lake George. A&W is a chain restaurant but this place is family owned and tastes like any homemade mom and pop place. The burgers are great as well as the curly fries and onion rings. There are a ton of milkshake options. They get busy so its best to go early. Our food came out super quick this time but has been slow occasionally in the past. Don't pass this place up, its only open seasonally. One of the previous reviews mentioned this place is under new ownership. This explains why my son said it was great back in 2019. It was about 25% occupied when we sat down at 2:30pm. A waitress didn't take our order until 3:00pm, probably under staffed, not her fault. A couple near us, who arrived after us went to get her, ordered before us, and was finished and out the door before our food arrived. Our food came out about 45 minutes later. When our food arrived, my wife had a raw chicken tender, all of the other chicken tenders at the table seemed to be cooked. She sent it back and a new order came out immediately. The chicken tenders were nothing special, they had hot sauce and bluecheese (Ken's individual containers, good stuff), but they don't toss them in the hotsauce - Not sure why not. I ate a couple of the chicken tenders, they were OK. Nothing special. The burger was overcooked and tasted like a bad McDonalds burger. The pickles were sweet, not dill. It immediately stood out to me, and I took it off. I ordered a large diet rootbeer for $4.34 - They don't come in mugs, paper cup. I was a little disappointed there. It was somewhat flat, but after waiting 45 minutes from sitting down to getting a drink, I was just trying to relax. My kids got the frosty rootbeer drinks, I tried some and it was good. Check was $77 for a family of 5. 3 frosted drinks, 1 large rootbeer, 1 small fry, 2 eight piece tenders, 1 3 piece tender, hotdog and mac and cheese. I know I don't give five stars too often, but this is the only place we stopped at twice during our trip to Lake George. No, we are not fast food junky's, but we found that this place had the most delicious shakes, some of the fastest service, delicious sweet potato fries, and friendliest waitresses of any place we went to. Yes, veggie burgers too. And CAR SERVICE! The trick here, of course, is trying to find a parking space because the parking lot is very small. There are so many places that are meh for service and food out here when you have picky kids who just want to get back outside and play. In our case, they also wanted to go inside to play at the arcades ;). My son highly recommends the peanut butter cup milkshake. I had what they call Chicken Sliders which were very small and had hardly anything on them, french fries were terrible not hot at all, I want my French Fries hot.
