I cannot say enough nice things about A Bar Above, in Crested Butte CO and the owner, Eliot. A Bar Above hosted my son's wedding welcome party at the end of June 2026 and it was an excellent time for all! Eliot and his staff were absolutely wonderful and so was the food and drinks. We had a fabulous time. Eliot is such a nice guy and went out of his way to help my son. At the last minute, some help my son had hired to assist during the wedding reception the following night quit unexpectedly! We had no idea why but it was too late to find anyone else. The woman who greeted us at the bar was extremely friendly. That said, the pepperoni pizza we ordered was A) on focaccia which wasn't mentioned anywhere, and B) The pizza looked like it had been blow torched black on top, past burnt. We asked about it and our server very grumpily replied "That's how it comes". the salad (without chicken) was the most sub par and small salad I have ever received for $18, adding chicken (which was like minimal precooked strips from Costco) was 7 or 8 dollars. It felt like every staff in there (except for the woman who greeted us) decided they hated us from the second we walked in. I gave an additional star because the folks from the adventure park crushing PBR's in the back were an absolute gem (no joke), and were really sweet with my kids. I get it, you work in a tourist town and it is super vogue to act like you hate tourists and couldn't be bothered. But need I remind you, friend, you moved here 2 years ago from the front range, So miss me with the townie tribalism. Maybe don't go into the service industry in a tourist town if you can't stand people. read more

This is a review for them as neighbors. A bar above started live music a few weeks ago, and have decided to put a speaker pointed out into the courtyard which can be heard all the way to Snodgrass. I write this at 9:55pm at night where I can clearly hear the inside band a quarter mile away in my condo. There are zero people listening in the courtyard. Play your music inside. The entire mountain village doesn't want to hear it at night. You aren't music on the mountain, which ends at 8 and is once a week. I'll update if/when they change. read more

when I was having my delicious mocha from a coffee Lab, I noticed the new restaurant across the way a bar above. What a great place! I had a Reuben and my wife had a beet salad. We have walked this spot multiple times while going to the chair lifts at Crested Butte. We finally stopped into this spot in Mt. Creates Butte after a couple hard hours of skiing. We were very impressed! The cocktail menu looks great, with a full bar. We stuck to beer, it is a place that prides itself on having lots of interesting craft beers! I was sad to hear there is no draft beer, but they had a great can list. The food went way past my expectations. I recommend getting a hot sandwich! The classic Cuban was great, well executed! The Banh Mi was amazing, by far the best item in the menu. It came with a little cup of pho, which warmed the soul on a cold ski day. Unfortunately, they were out of turkey, but the ham substitute worked well! The service was okay, it is a seat yourself place and walk up and order at the front. They then bring the food to you. It is a good substitute for lunch at the base of the mountain! I will be back! read more

The bar tender can give seminars on o how to avoid a tip. It was the most expensive Aperol Spriz, I have had and have been high end bars in NYC, London, Rome, Seoul, Tokyo, ...,of course he added two surcharges to achieve the honor. But the attitude made it all worthwhile. read more

They only had one bartender when I was there so service was a little slow, but she was working hard and was super nice. The prices seemed a little steep, but probably average for a mountain town. Saw this place after finishing up a long day of skiing and decided to shower and come back for some drinks. They had a great selection of beer and cocktails and an updated menu that has hot and cold subs that all looked great. The live music was awesome (starts at 7pm) and all the servers were great. I would definitely recommend this place and can't believe it hasn't really been discovered yet. read more

Good sandwiches but terrible ambiance for a ski lodge bar. It's like an art gallery that serves beer in cans.

My wife and I were visiting for a weekend and really enjoyed coming here. The drinks were really good, a little on the pricier side but still a good selection. Service was to be expected from a tourist bar. Nothing extraordinary but also nothing rude either. Bar itself had really cool vibe and it was awesome to see live music. We will be back! read more

Really fun atmosphere with great food and drinks. Love that they have live music and their pizza is super good! Only complaint is the staff seem to pay more attention to themselves than the customers. I get it's fun to catch up with locals/your friends, but the out of towners are the ones spending money to support your business. read more

Almost every table was empty but the service was still really poor. The woman behind the bar just could not be bothered and would rather chat with what seemed like staff sitting at the bar. Drinks were very pricey if you can get your hands on one and the nachos were disappointing. The space leaves a lot to be desired. I don't know if it's a lack of funding or imagination but this place just isn't there yet. I'd skip it. Not kid friendly. read more
