After a long drive from Arizona to Crested Butte, we arrived late into town looking for somewhere to eat. We were looking for something near our hotel with a kitchen that opens late and that offers gluten-free options (for my buddy). Iron Horse Tap ended up being the place for us. They serve up American bar food and appetizers with a nice selection of beer, wine and cocktails on their drink menu. Iron Horse Tap is located inside The Plaza and has great views of Mt. Crested Butte's Peak. We were able to walk over from our hotel. It was a chilly night, so we appreciated how warm and cozy the place was. Iron Horse has a number of TVs that show various sporting events. The pizza options on the menu looked good, so order a MOB Pizza with a beer. I like to try the local beers whenever I visit a new town and Iron Horse had a selection of local Colorado beers on tap. We love this bar as an apres skiing spot. The fact that you don't open until 4:00 is mindblowing. Considering there aren't really any other decent apres places, you are missing out on a huge sector of people that would come for lunch/beers after skiing. We always want to come but not at 4:00! Such a bummer. Even open at 2:00 and get the whole ski crowd. You've got the big TV for football and games start at 11:00. Is there a reason for opening so late? read more

Great option for dining near the mountain. Great place to watch sports as well. The bar is huge and bartenders were awesome. Food was ok - nothing exceptional. Would definitely go back as there's not many options outside of downtown Crested Butte for dining, especially if you are staying near the mountain. Went back because it's the only place we found to watch football in CB and we're pleased yet again! Happy hour beer (other drinks available too). We got a $4 amber ale and a $2 PBR to drink. Then had hot Buffalo wings and a mushroom pizza. The Buffalo wings were hot!!! I needed occasional water and I like spicy foods. The blue cheese sauce was home made and fantastic. The pizza had mushrooms, cheese, caramelized onions, bacon and balsamic.... And can I just say it was the perfect combination! The tap was very busy tonight but we got a table, staff was attentive and kind, and the place was clean. No complaints yet again! Just know they're short staffed and you have to order at the bar and get your own silverware..... but that doesn't take away from the great time we had for me. read more

Service was excellent ! There were a good number of tables also there and there was one waitress handling all and she did a great job , you wouldn't even notice they were busy. We ordered the poppers from reading other reviews for them saying they were solid and I agree . It was unique having the jalapeños in tiny chopped pieces mixed with the chopped sausage and cream cheese. My husband who doesn't eat jalapeño poppers are 2 and was impressed. The meat pizza was also good. The crust is softer than we typically like. But I'm sure there are many in the world that like softer vs crispy crusts . read more

If I could give a negative 100 rating I would with exclamation marks. Walked in and the place was packed, but I'm scratching my head as to why. No hostess. Fight for your own table. We had to clear & clean our own table. Waitresses were nonexistent. Placed order with bartender, then waited. And waited. And waited only to have 1 item (cheese pizza) of our 4 item order arrive and was told by the lady who delivered it that she knew we had more items coming but nothing else arrived for another 30+ minutes. Husband went to the order door to inquire and was told they lost our order. Rude older man at the "ordering door" said "what do you want me to do about it?" Impressive customer service. When that aforementioned cheese pizza did arrive, it had no sauce & we did not order it that way. From ordering to food arriving it was over an hour & a half. This is a great new addition to the dining options on the mountain. It's located in the old Firehouse Grill site. While their wings are nearly as good as the signature wings at the Firehouse, there are several new items that are good. The burgers are amazing with a sweet fresh bun. Only one dessert option, but it was excellent. Although it was a slower day, the service was excellent and well above average. I look forward to going back on Sundays to watch football on their big screens. The only negative was the lack of good Sunday bar specials. read more

Came into Iron Horse last night to get some food because the restaurant inside the hotel we were staying at was closed. Garret behind the bar was a super awesome dude. Girlfriend doesn't eat meat and Garret suggested the cauliflower bites. They were awesome. Would definitely recommend anyone to check this place out. What a crappy business. They don't need business, I guess. Drove 4 hours to come enjoy a birthday getaway and they close an hour early. Waitress watched us walk around the restaurant looking for the front door and walked right up, locked the door and turned off the open sign as we reached for the door. Forget your typical pretentious mountain resort hotel bar, the Iron Horse Tap was a breath of fresh air relative to the hotel bar which we were staying at. We wondered over here to avoid the families, kids, prototypical beer list, and overpriced cocktails that resided at the Elevation. We were relieved to find somewhat of a dive bar and working man's bar. The demographic was certainly more our speed and we were blown away by how friendly the bartender was. He even checked back with us to see how we enjoyed our beer selection. Their prices were reasonable to begin with but the fact that they had a happy hour with some unique breweries on tap that reside up and around Crested Butte prompted a return on day two of our stay. If I were a local, I would probably be a regular at this joint as it is redolent of the down to earth, neighborhood bars, with a great draft selection that I frequent at home. read more

The atmosphere is nice- cozy and comfortable. The service was atrocious. The owner or manager or whatever you want to call him was very rude. We waited over 15 minutes before someone asked us if we needed help, we just wanted to pay our tab. We lived in Breck for two years and NEVER received service this horrible, they looked like rookies. I was very pleasantly surprised how good the food was here. It was somewhat off season so the place was empty. It truly was one of the best burgers we've had. It seems like this place has potential, but tonight it was just an epic fail. It wasn't very busy, so I was optimistic when entering. It took much too long to place my order initially, and both times I ordered beer, it took a long time for them to be delivered. My dinner was pretty simple, wings for an appetizer and a burger for dinner. They brought both out at the same time, and the burger was over cooked (I asked for medium, it was well done. I also asked for no dipping sauce with the wings and received ranch). The waitress never came back after the food was delivered to check on how everything was, either. I didn't see her again until I was finished. There weren't a lot of other options open in the off season, but I recommend making the effort to find someplace else. read more
