A Beautiful Corset and its owner, Tamar, are exceptional. Tamar is patient, kind, non-judgemental, and highly skilled at what she does. She knows just by looking at you what style will look perfect on your figure (and she has so many options to choose from in her shop). If you're an irregular size like me, she also does custom corsets. Tamar has done two corsets for me: an underbust she had in stock, and a custom overbust style I got to pick fabric for. Both are super high quality, comfortable, and meant for all-day wear. She helped me and my partner learn how to do couples lacing and self-lacing over a couple of visits--she takes time and care to make sure you understand your way around a corset--by look AND by feel. I mentioned this before, but she is SO PATIENT while teaching. As someone who feels anxious about "doing it wrong" any time I learn something new, having Tamar coach me through it really helped. I am a size 4 and there were a variety of corsets for me to try on which is typical. My mother is a size 22 she "just came along for the ride" but we were shocked to discover that they had corsets for her to try as well. No matter you size or size you are welcome here. Let me start off my review by saying that the shopping experience and quality of the corsets at A Beautiful Corset are outstanding. They provided wine and cheese while my girlfriend got properly fitted. You will not find a better experience. That being said, you pay about triple of what you would pay for another corset of nearly equal quality. I was shocked that the corset I purchased was well over $500. I have purchased many corsets in the past and none have run me even half as much. I feel bad writing this review, and I would not have even bothered, but the shop sent me an email asking me to post a review for them. So here it is in all it's ugly truth. The service and product they provide is second to none, but in my mind they are beyond over priced. They are on par with Agent Provocateur and La Perla. However their designs are not as unique or different to justify the price. I know most people lust after Christian Louboutin Shoes and Vera Wang Dresses. So if you are obsessed with labels, or simply just want to brag about spending a lot of money on a gift for someone this is your place. I would send my friends here simply for the shopping experience, but I would make sure they did some competitive shopping before they made a purchase. read more

A visit to this shop is a unique experience. My advice is to plan a visit when you have some time to spend an hour or two just being pampered. This is definitely a favorite place to go when I want to treat myself to something very special. First, there is the fragrance bar, where Tammy, the owner, or a member of her capable staff will guide you through creating a personal fragrance that they'll then turn into bath gel, body lotion. body mist, or other fragrant toiletry. (They keep records for you as well, so you can either tweak the fragrance or purchase more of exactly the same at a subsequent visit.) Then there are the accessories - incredible clutch purses, funky, unusual jewelry, gorgeous scarves and shawls, kitschy little nicknacks.... I could browse for half the afternoon. But my main reason for going there is really the star of the shop - the corsets. The much maligned corset is making a comeback and they are not just for re-enactors or great-grandmothers anymore. If you are in the market for a corset - a top quality corset that is fitted to you and made to order - Tammy, the owner, can fit you for any of the wide array of corsets she sells. In the privacy of her fitting room, she advises clients on the best corsets for their body type, will take measurements, and she'll fit you to a sample. She is very knowledgeable and very professional -- I am very modest and she immediately made me feel at ease. She has a corset collection unlike anything I've ever seen anywhere else. Not only does she have a wide range of styles, but the fabric options are also amazing. But best of all is how comfortable her corsets are and how wonderful they make you look when you're wearing them. That scene in "Gone With the Wind", where Scarlet is being "helped" into her corset and it appears she is being tortured, has done the corset a grave disservice. Wearing one of Tammy's corsets, whether you opt to wear it as a foundation undergarment or choose to wear it as a fashion statement, is like wearing a cloud. The best way I can explain it is to say that these corsets are the Manolo Blahnik's of the corset world - every woman should have at least one. I should note that while a trip to this shop with your gal pals is probably an ultimate shopping experience, I went with my husband and ten minutes after we entered the shop, he was ensconced on a comfortable sofa with a bottle of chilled water while I browsed and was fitted for a corset. Tammy will ship your corset to you but my advice is to arrange to pick it up from her. It is quite a distance for us, but definitely worth the trip to have her show me exactly how to fit it and wear it and care for it. After looking at the website, I had a few more questions since I was looking for something specific. When I called, they were very knowledgeable and helpful. I got exactly what I wanted and when they said I would have it. Completely painless. Keep in mind that this is a high quality corset that is an investment. I have a few expensive corsets and a few of the cheap ones you see at Fredricks. They are NOT the same at all. So expect the pricing to reflect that. September update: I just picked up the 4th corset I have bought at this place. All were over-bust corsets. The first was black cotton with a moon print, and the second a floral silk and both the same style. They are so flattering but take a few times of wearing them to mold to your body, The third was a custom order for the materials, powder blue satin with black lace edging, turned out lovely and the latest and best was custom made to my measurements and has a little shrug to go with it. Absolutely divine! Now I want an under-bust corset to wear with a bra under my antique style clothing. The owner Tamar knows how to tell by looking at you which styles will fit you and is honest to tell you if something you like is probably not going to work for you. I would not want to buy something this expensive without knowing it is going to fit. She spends the time to get it right. You get a free perfume with your corset as well! More expensive than the lingerie at a mall but made to last in great fabrics and the customer service is just what you want for this sort of thing. No rushing and lots of expertise to fit you right and help you get something you will love. Buy off the rack or get something custom made in your own choice of fabrics and trims. The owner did an amazing job making my husband and I feel comfortable and confident, as this was our first time purchasing a corset. She was extremely thorough, knowledgeable and kind throughout the entire process. She spent about 90 min with us, showing and trying on different pieces, explaining the differences between each corset, and the ins and out of the corset's materials. She went through how to put on and remove a corset and we practiced in the shop. At the end, she had about two dozen perfume scents, and I got to make my own perfume, which was on the house. I picked up my first corset today and I couldn't be happier. I researched this for months and visited other shops, but I found this to be the best in all of New England. The owner, Tamar has a lot of knowledge and a lot of patience. I am single now so I had to learn how to tie the corset myself. I was nervous beforehand but I have wanted to do this for years. Tamar put me at ease immediately and she was so wonderful, walking me through the whole process several times. She really is an expert too. I wouldn't have wanted to do this with anyone else. I already like my figure but it looks even better with a corset. It looks like I had plastic surgery! I am also surprised by how comfortable it is. I am really glad I went with Vollers too. My wedding corset was beautiful, but it was a long process getting the skirt made to match. They clearly can do corsets well, but I would not recommend getting anything else. So many alterations had to be made that had to get sent back to London on my dime. I still had to bring it to a tailor and I found someone else because I didn't want to deal with this vendor anymore. The corset was expensive, around $500, which is a lot of money. It was my wedding dress so I think I overlooked the cost. The overall product was not what I requested and the back and forth with the company was exhausting. read more
