The menu is different now - its bigger, and they have some meal set/combo options. Also more drink options. I tried: Nitro pear tea - excellent. get this. The nitro adds a smooth finish and the fresh pear puree is excellent with the tea. 5/5 signature sliced noodle with beef - not bad. Nice "wok hei" on it but its a bit wet/greasy. The beef in it was good but not many pieces. 3.5/5. Taiwanese stir fry rice noodle - pretty good. Well seasoned, not too greasy tasting. 4/5. Fried chicken nuggets - a classic. solid. 4.5/5. odd to put this here but they have a house made hot sauce with chili and garlic which was bomb. They charged $1 for it. 5/5. If you like spicy stuff, get this and put it on everything. Theyve done really good things since theyve opened. Menu is broader, a lot more options and classics for Taiwanese food. This is the second time i had been to this restaurant but first time for dinnet menu items. We ordered a variety of items including soup noodles, stir-fry noodles, rice bento set and the signature taiwanese chicken nuggets. Overall, we really enjoyed the taste of the items. They were all well seasoned. However, for some odd reasons, almost all of the items were lukewarm. The only exception was the Seaame oil chicken soup because it was served with a candle light heater. Even the deep fried chicken nuggets werent very hot as you would expect for deep fried items. it feels like the cook was rushing and didnt stir-fry or fry the items long enough as they should have been I am unsure if the sides for the bento should have been serves warm or room temperature. But they were colder than room temperature but warmer than fridge temperature. odd. I've been here 3 times because well, I'm Taiwanese and Vancouver really doesn't have a lot of good Taiwanese food options. However, food here is far from how food tastes like in Taiwan (I know because I go to Taiwan every year). The chicken nuggets and the fried basket were bland. The beef noodle broth lacks depth and flavour, and the worst tasting thing I had from the menu is this "sizzling plate" with fish. It was totally westernized and there was nothing Taiwanese about it flavour-wise. The oyster/shrimp omelette was decent though. Service is good, and [[HIGHLIGHT]]ambiance is modern and clean[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. I don't think I will be back unfortunately as food is very mediocre. read more

Contemporary Taiwanese restaurant located close to Broadway city hall station. It's a cozy place and doesn't get too crowded so it's relatively quiet. Good spot for a date! I got their chicken nuggets for appetizers, I asked the server if we could get some sauce with it because they were dry but she insisted that we try it without the sauce first. They were good - crispy and salty but definitely would be better with some kind of dipping sauce. For main course i got the spicy beef fried rice which was good, I would say 4/5. We also got the deluxe tri sauce chicken with rice, this was definitely more flavourful! Wasn't the biggest fan of the sticky rice cake that came with the chicken but the rest was good. This is my favorite Taiwanese restaurant and it's very delicious. We were lucky to find street parking near by and came off hours on Friday. Ambiance was laid back and welcoming. We got sat right away and server was friendly and attentive. We ordered lunch combos, beef brisket and chicken nugget and it came with complimentary desserts, grass jelly. The portion was generous and we had no problem clean the plates. Lunch menu was different from dinner. You might want to check their website before you come. It's such a treat when we were in town. I love their food, beef noodles and many other dishes taste very good. But what's disappointing is that they are currently offering the Dine Out Vancouver menu, and they only offer the braised beef noodles in soup on their $40 DOV menu. If I don't want to spend $40 for lunch or simply don't have the appetite to eat such a large meal, I can't have just the beef noodles as a standalone item. I even told the server that I purposely bus here just wanting the beef noodles, is there no way the kitchen can accommodate that? Without consulting with manager or kitchen, she just denied my request. Obviously the kitchen has all the required ingredients, and pricing is in their billing system, so why the hell not? As a Taiwanese restaurant, it is stupid to remove your signature dish on your regular menu just because you are offering DOV. So I ended up ordering the peach tea and seafood pan fried noodles. Taste is wonderful, there's basil, garlic and good amount of seafood. The noodles were a bit too soft and mushy for me. Unfortunately they put a lot of msg, as I was very thirsty the entire afternoon. The peach tea was very refreshing, with peach puree and lemon, that would be a very nice summer drink. read more

I checked out their DineOut Fest menu a while back. I like the clean/chic interior, it's a comfortable dine-in experience. They're a modern Taiwanese-style restaurant. Nitro Oolong Tea: highly recommend this! It is just subtly sweet, and the bubbles/foam on top make it extra smooth and also creamy texture. Very strong and fragrant tea flavour. Pork Pepper Bun: Very flaky pastry, and had a good meat to bun ratio. Tad bit on the salty side, but it is definitely very flavourful. Taiwanese Chicken Nuggets: can't go wrong with this! I like how they kept it very traditional and included lots of deep-fried basil too. Squid with Five Flavours Sauce: the sauce is common for Taiwanese cuisine, but it isn't for everyone - it has a sort of sweet and vinegar taste with a very strong flavour of mixed spices. Served cold. Night Market Style Chicken: I'm familiar with this dish as being more Hong Kong/Cantonese style, but they've done their own spin where it is on the sweet side (more Taiwanese-style palate). I've been wanting to try this restaurant since I saw it on Instagram. However, amidst the raving reviews of foodies in Instagram, there are a few dishes that are not quite at par. It lacks the WOW factor and the home run dish that I look for when eating out. *Seafood Pancake/Oyster: Have been craving for this dish since I left Asia. This dish is ok. I like the small size oysters they used. *Clear Broth Beef Noodle Soup: interesting noodle soup, different from the usual beef noodle soup where it's spicy and served with pickled vegetable, quite plain for me. It tastes very much like home cooked beef soup if that's considered good. *Night Market Style Chicken Steak: very strong pepper flavor which is not too delicious for chicken steak. It might work with short ribs but definitely not chicken steak. *Eggplant & Tofu Stew: not bad *Sweet & Sour Lychee Fish: presentation of whole fish standing on its side is definitely great. It is fried crispy to a point where some bony parts can be enjoyed. However, fish is coated with sauce that is super sweet, I guess they must have used the lychee syrup to make this sauce. The fish itself could have used some salt when frying to create that complex flavor. Overall, there was nothing that stood out except for the presentation of the fish. It smelled so good when we sat down but we sat there for almost 20 mins before we waved someone down to take our orders. The food was good but some are a little too salty especially the tofu that's been soaking in the sauce. I would say my favorite was the taro chips with the eggplant sauce. Nice atmosphere for Taiwanese food, quite classy for the decor and utensils, the staff were attentive too they opened at 5pm for dinner. (They have a break and closed between 3-4pm) We had a $38 dine out menu We choose their appetizer: Taiwanese crispy chicken nuggets 9/10 it was super crispy and salty. I liked the basil and fresh garlic seasoned alongside the chicken nuggets. Best chicken nuggets I've had. Includes a soup either Ham and corn soup or clam soup gotta go for that seafoody soup so the clam soup was 7/10 the clams were fresh and salty, the soup was like hondashi (quite fishy and clear) they sliced quite a bit of ginger into the soup as well. For the entree we choose night market chicken steak with egg noodles 6/10 it was tempting to get this because it was on a sizzling plate, so the presentation was nice and cool, teppanyaki style the food comes in hot! But eventually it cools down and the hype for it dies down. In my opinion, it was quite peppery and the gravy sauce was very western for my taste, the chicken and egg was disappointing for this dish as well. Also have to say the carrot was very hard in this dish which I don't like We also got an extra dish on the side the Taiwanese sausage fried rice (honestly wanted the spicy beef fried rice instead but apparently they don't have it during dinner? It wasn't on the menu, so kinda disappointing to see that it's on their website but then you don't see it on their menu in store...) Lastly the drink of choice was nitro black tea (it was the sweeter option of the two, either oolong tea) I'd give the drink a 7/10 my first time with the nitro tea, I didn't know what to expect but it came with the foamy top and cold brewed tea below the foam. I found it hard to drink with all that bubble and foam at the top, reminded me of drinking like beer with the foam at the top, eventually the foam dies down and it's easier to drink. Overall, my favourite is the Taiwanese crispy chicken nuggets, because their specialty is Taiwanese food, they can't go wrong with that! Not only is this one fried to perfection being both light and not too greasy but the side dishes add a great accompaniment. The dish I chose didn't wow me at all. The dining area and service were nice. The host was nice to show me where their rear parking lot is. They have about 4 to 5 free customer parking. Near by street meter parking is hefty. - Deep fried boneless pork chop on rice The pork was on a thin cut. The flavour was alright. The side dishes in the combo was a bit underwhelming and bland, except the marinated big head vegetable. The vermicelli and cauliflower were almost flavourless. I'll try other dishes next time. Had the wonderful opportunity to try out A.Bento after a giveaway from instagram and not only did we indulge in an authentic meal for two, we also ordered some of their most popular dishes to try out! For out dinner, we had the pork intestines stew which was chock full of ingredients (that I didnt touch haha) which was adored by my dad who doesnt get these things often! We also had the hakka stir fry with flavourful tofu and pork, basil clams which had plenty of plump clams with a delicious sauce containing a plethora of green onions, garlic and onions (YUM!). The meal set also allowed us to try their sliced pork with garlic sauce and taiwanese sausage as some appetizers but we added their appetizer trio of fried squid, chicken and fishcake. Their flavour for the fried items was spot on authentic taiwanese with plenty of salt, pepper and five spice. It was a little bit soggy due to being takeout but this did not affect how it tasted. Finally, one of the best dishes of the night was their shrimp and chives fried rice which was nice and "dry" meaning they fried it well and was tasty but not oily either! It had a good amount of plump shrimp and went great with the other dishes. Overall, I am so glad to have tried out this restaurant and look forward to returning again to try their newer items (I spy taiwanese beef noodles!). Finally had a chance to check out A.Bento. The interior is very modern looking with a minimalistic feel. The plates and utensils were also very nice. We shared the Appetizer Trio which had chicken nuggets, fish cake and squid tentacles. All 3 items were good but my favourite item is still the chicken nuggets. They were juicy and well seasoned. The Spicy Beef Fried Rice had a really good flavour to it and good amounts of beef in it but it was waaay too oily. There was so much oil left on the plate. I'm a huge fan of Taiwanese food in Vancouver so I decided to give this place a try given its amazing reviews on yelp. I ordered the ruroe fan, beef noodle soup, bamboo shoot soup, and popcorn chicken. The popcorn chicken tasted exactly like the ones I've tried in Taiwan - it was crispy on the outside and soft inside - with a bit of spice. Beef noodle soup was one of the best I've tried in both Vancouver and Seattle. The noodles were chewy and firm. The soup was super flavorful. Lastly, my favorite was the bamboo shoot soup. The ribs was super flavorful and you will also taste a slight hint of bamboo shoot. However, I was really disappointed with the ruroe fan. That could be because I was expecting your typical ruroe fan with radish, while boiled egg, cilantro, etc. But the one at A.bento can with a sausage, fried egg, and quail eggs. The ruroe itself was not tasty and the sausage was terrible. Taiwanese chicken nuggets is one must have dish at A.Bento! Not only is it fried perfectly but be ready for a delicious garlic aftertaste from the bits of fresh garlic it is topped with! It just adds so much more to that dish!! We thoroughly enjoyed every dish! The Oyster Pancake sure reminds us of the ones in Taiwan with its silky glutinous texture and is probably the closest one we have tried so far from the ones we had in our travels. And not only did they nailed their dishes but their drinks are quite unique too with Taiwanese beer and nitro tea! The Nitro Guava Plum Black tea was recommended by the staff and it was soo good! Smooth and fruity with a good amount of tea flavour. Prices is a bit on the higher side compared to your usual Taiwanese restaurants but the quality and uniqueness in some of their dishes is worth it here. They make some tea fresh at the restaurant but they have their own canned tea, which you could also purchase home. They have bento and other dishes for lunch and more options for dinner. However, if you want the bentos, they are only during lunch hours. Their breaks are 3-5pm. Reasonable prices, good portion size and flavourful. Authentic Taiwanese food and some memorable flavour. It has the spices and unique flavors of the traditional Taiwanese rice dish along with the colorful basil flavor. Pork Ragu over Rice -- similar to Lu Rou Fan and the Tri sauce chicken dish but without the basil. Tasted great with the chicken =p Xiao long bao -- juicy and flavorful except they stuck together and some of the juices escaped but still so good. Beef noodle soup -- solid. Beef brisket, al dente noodles and clean, clear yet tasty beef broth. Can't ask for much more. This restaurant discriminates against delivery drivers and refuses to open the back door, unless it is to receive deliveries. They make food delivery drivers walk all the way around the block, even though they are well aware that there is no parking, no stopping and no loading zone anywhere on Broadway due to construction. Like others mentioned, the flavors are authentic Taiwanese. I think they are using spices and ingredients sourced from Taiwan, and not just following the recipes. The popcorn chicken had a satisfying crisp thin skin, juicy tender meat, and distinctive five spice flavor with the fried basil. The pork rice bento was a good portion. I liked the quail eggs and the glass noodles. Definitely looking forward to visiting again soon to try their other dishes. read more
