Our first time inside (after many a walk by). A bit put off by the menus but after reviewing yelp pictures and reviews we both had the beef brisket with wife noodles. Yummy! Love the cilantro. Wish for veggies is something I wouldn't have wanted 20 years ago - but yeah cilantro isn't a veggie right?

Dropped by after a day in Richmond. Noodle joint that is across from the Safeway. It's in a heavily traffic ridden area. They do have free parking in the shared lot with other businesses. The place has a number of tables and are quite busy during dinner service around 6ish. Cash only as well. Nothing stands out in terms of decor but clean establishment. All in all, soup was way too salty for my tastes. The beef noodle soup had decent protein pieces but could have included some vegetable greens. The dumplings were too wrapper heavy and just your usual pork meat filling. Albeit mine tasted overcooked. Beef Green Onion Pancake was nicely sized and slightly crisped. Nothing stood out for me but I'd probably just eat in Richmond next time as there is much better to be had.

Wang's Taiwan Beef Noodle House serves one of the best beef noodle soups in town. As we've travelled previously to Taiwan multiple times I must say their broth tastes very authentic. It's rich and full of flavour and the beef is tender. The hot and sour soup is also very aromatic and less gelatinous and spicy than most of hot and sour soups I had previously. I also enjoyed their dumplings that were packed with meat and cooked to perfection in delicate pastry. It can get very busy over dinner time for a reason. It's a definitely must try.

CASH only. No credit cards accepted. Wang's Taiwan Beef Noodle House on Granville Street is always a popular place no matter what time of day it is. Everyone comes here for their famous Beef Noodle Soup, Pork Pot Stickers, or Beef Dumplings. Others come for the Fried Popcorn Chicken, Deep Fried Tofu or Taiwanese Sausages, Pork Belly, Deep Fried Chicken Thigh or Pork Chop, Deep Fried Fish Cake (one of my favourite things), Kelp Seaweed, Marinated Pork Hock or Dried Tofu, Marinated Pig's Ears or Beef Tripe, XLB Shanghainese Dumplings etc. They're open daily for lunch at 11 AM and closed after dinner at 10 PM. Good option for late night eats too. I came here around lunchtime and waited for 20 minutes in the line which continued outside the entrance. It's a definite sign of popularity when the queue runs outside the restaurant and it's worth the wait! Parking is not always easy to find so patience is a good virtue to use during your hunt for a spot if you decide to drive there. If you're tired of waiting, a good tip for next time is that they even sell frozen dumplings to make at home. It's a really good option to have them handy in the freezer. The frozen dumplings come in all sorts of varieties like Cabbage Dumplings, Chive Dumplings, Pork Dumplings or Beef Dumplings. Once seated, the server brought over tea (a refreshing mixture of green tea and black tea) and a menu. My go to order is A01 - Large size - Beef Brisket Noodle Soup with Thick Noodles plus an add-on of Extra Vegetables for $1 more. The beef brisket was cooked just right - it was tender and juicy. The hand made noodles were fresh and chewy. The atmosphere of this busy Taiwanese restaurant was bustling with tables of regulars, large groups of friends and families gathering for a delicious meal.

Sooooo delicious! One of my favourite beef noodle places. The broth, noodles and beef are so delicious. I got the tomato broth and it was really tasty. Portion is a good size too.

I ordered noodles in beef brisket soup (meatless). The soup is a bit on salty side. IMO salty and fatty is the prominent flavours, not so much beef. The thick noodles are good but seem like something you might find from your local asian supermarket. The "small" is a very sizable portion. I think a large could be difficult for a lot of people unless you're very hungry. Salt and pepper chicken was good. It has a lot of five spice flavour, wish it had basil. I like that the order had a lot of small pieces - I like smaller bites for higher crunch to meat ratio. I wouldn't mind getting another order of chicken in the future.

I came earlier for lunch and by the time I was leaving the restaurant was filling up. The staff was very friendly and the food came out quickly after ordering. As the name suggests, they specialize in Taiwanese beef noodle and you can choose the type of meat/tendon combo as well as type of noodle from thin, thick, to vermicelli. You can also pick from small and large sizes. I had half and half meat and tendon with thick noodle. The soup was flavorful, the meat was really tender and the noodle had a perfect chew! Really delicious Taiwanese beef noodle and I would definitely revisit and try more items on the menu!

Pretty close to perfect Taiwanese beef noodle soup. The taste of the soup is not too salty, clean, yet rich. The tendon was soft and like jelly. The beef was very tender and melts in your mouth. The only downside is the noodles were a little soggy and over-cooked and I prefer my noodles al dente. Otherwise the flavour of the wide noodles were great. Better than most beef noodle soup places.

This place have been around forever!! One of very few original Taiwanese noodles place left in Vancouver! First thing first, it is CASH ONLY. So better take out those dollar bills before you make your way there, on another note, pricing is very reasonable and portions are not small. Baby/stroller/ kids friendly - Free parking and unlike most Asian restaurants with gross backlane garbage bin 1.5 stalls! which is a plus nowadays in Vancouver (even Costco and T&T have pay parking now, which is so not cool) Couldn't really figure out why this place is 3 stars, based on price/taste/portion ratio, it is actually quite nice. Personable customer service, clean environment and a large variety menu as well. We had XLB, 2 noodles, a combo appie plus 2 BBT and total was about 60 bucks. Soup was flavourful, noodles have good texture and tender meat. Can't say the XLB is best in Van but I actually had much worse ones in fancy restaurants in Richmond. This made perfect lunch on a snowy day. Hit the spot, will def come back!

M was craving some Taiwanese noodle soup so I went to my trusty Van adviser and was told to check out Wang's Beef Noodle House. It's located right beside a VPL branch. We dropped in on a late Wednesday evening (around 9:00pm) and the place was about a third full. No frills but it's clean and with lots of seating. Service is fast and efficient; I liked how they came back several times to fill up our tea cups. The menu is bigger than I expected. Noodles, soups, rice, dim sum (aka. dumplings), appetizers and beverages. They have a "happy hour" (3:00pm to 5:00pm and 9:30pm to 11:30pm) where you order an entree and can get a black/green tea for $2.95. Wohoo? - Spicy beef brisket noodle (A2) ($12.75 large) - we got thin noodles for this bowl. The broth was a touch spicy, I liked the addition of the pickled mustard greens and the thin noodles matched well with the broth. The beef brisket was tender but still had some chew to it. - Dan dan noodle (A20) ($9.75 large) - we got the thick noodles with this bowl. I liked how the peanut sauce wasn't over doused (like it usually is). Noodles had a nice spring to them and there was even a decent amount of minced pork and bok choy. - Steamed chive dumplings (D5) ($7.50 for 8) - these were homemade and came with a side of sweet ginger sauce. The wrapping had a nice chew to them but the filling could have had more chives. Cash only! It's cheap and open late/everyday to satisfy your late night noodle cravings.

The guy in front of me, Deng, looked at me with such envy as he cut in line. This place is incredibly popular! Every time I pass by, there's a long queue. Even on rainy days, people are willing to get soaked in the rain just to have a bowl of hot tonkotsu ramen. While you're queuing, the staff will hand out menus. The ordering system is similar to Ichiran Ramen; you can choose the noodle firmness, broth consistency, spiciness, green onions, oil level, and MSG amount . The basic ramen is only $13. I added a soft-boiled egg and pickled cabbage for $2 each. Although the pickled cabbage is really expensive , I can't help it, I'm a pickled cabbage addict! The pickled cabbage paired with the rich tonkotsu broth was refreshing. The broth was flavorful but not greasy, the noodles were chewy and springy, and the portion size was just right. Overall, it's incredibly good value for money; no wonder there's always a queue. After eating, you really get that "Ah~ this is the taste of happiness" feeling

I had the goma vegetarian and my brother the tonkatsu. We both had thicker noodles. However, one could not tell. The vegetarian was loaded with sesame seeds. Now i love those seeds but it was way too much for my liking. Too much seeds to chew on. They also do not put any vegetables on like Hawaii does. Everything is ala carte and that adds up. I simply chose the ramen version without all the add ons. The broth was yummy but again with the loaded seeds, it made it challenging to just drink the soup. I will say, Hawaii has by far better ramen, but this place was ok too. Pricey for for what you get though.

I…read moredecided to check it out for dinner, mostly to check it off my list of Japanese restaurants to try. As a transit user, It's conveniently located across the street from chinatown stadium skytrain station. I like that it opens a bit later until 10pm so i can go there after an evening movie at international village a 5 minute walk away. There was basically no queue to order so i was able to order as soon as i walked into the restaurant. I told the staff i was a first time customer and asked what was the most popular dish, and they said number 5 which is the nikutama udon. It comes with sweet beef, BK sauce, and onsen eggs on top of thick udon noodles. The braised sweet beef was alright in terms of flavor and it definitely hit the spot. It's by far the best ingredient in the udon. I had never tried onsen eggs before, and I didn't really care for them. It's basically eggs that were cooked slowly at a low temperature. The texture and appearance is unusual in my opinion. i thought the nikutama udon overall was pretty good and it has unique flavors and ingredients. It's not amazing but I can understand why people love the unique BK sauce's flavors. There's not many customization options but you can get the dish served hot or cold, and you can choose to get a regular version or larger version for only $1.50 more. There's apparently a lot of hype around the BK sauce but i didn't find it that great. It has a unique combination of salty, sweet, and smoky flavors. The portion size is a little smaller than i prefer so i'd definitely get the large size. But i think most people will find the regular size just fine. I was able to eat my whole dish within 5-7 minutes and im not a person that wolfs down their meal quickly. Price-wise, the cost of their udon is fair. They are around $12-13. Slightly cheaper than other ramen places. The tempura add-ons are expensive in my opinion but I saw lots of folks buying them anyways. At the time, other ramen places like Kinton Ramen had a $15 set meal, which I thought was a better deal because it came with a special summer drink and gyoza. I wish Marugame's nikutama udon had something like this. Like adding a choice of a couple tempura and a drink for a similar price. The dining area was a little smaller than expected because half of it was closed at the time. But I was still able to find a seat at the counter where i could eat my dish. They don't use a wait staff but it's cafeteria style where you get the food at the counter and bring your dish to the table, and bring it back to the cleaning area yourself. I like that you can get your own water at a tap, napkins, utensils, and cups too instead of asking for them at the counter. The dining area was pretty clean and spacious. Overall, I give Marugame 4 stars out of 5. You should definitely check it out at least once if you are a fan of Japanese udon. Try the nikutama udon with BK sauce and see if you'll like it too.

Utensils, sauces, and water are off to a counter in the seat area, and there's a return area to bring back your empty bowls/trays. Not super busy when we got there on a weekend night, but filled up as an event at BC Place was ending. We got the beef udon with the classic soup, the beef rice bowl that has the runny egg, the chicken katsu curry udon, and a few tempura items. My favorite was definitely the curry udon, since the curry soup/sauce had more flavor. Out of the fried items, the shrimp tempura is delicious, and the zucchini tempura has a nice sweetness to it. Udon noodles were pretty good, has a nice solid texture to them. Overall bill was $50ish for 3 people. And since this is basically fast food, you don't necessarily have to tip.
