the best malatang spot to try in vancouver!! been here so many times and it never misses. fresh ingredients and yummy soup bases but it's still malatang at the end of the day so nothing ground breaking. pro tip for saving is to maybe share one bowl among 2 people if you don't want to eat a lot. they also have complimentary soft serve at the end, and sometimes during happy hour the staff gives free drinks like lemonades or teas. quick service since you build your own bowl, usually bustling with people so can be a bit busy and loud. read more

I come to this location fairly frequently. I have not in a couple months though until now. They have definitely gone downhill, substantially. First, the staff. All the old staff are gone. Now the staff are...lets say, they look like the typical crew at any Tim Horton's. The previous diversity is gone. They are also sloppy in their work. Example: the guy taking my order didnt ask about green onions/cilantro toppings etc and the bowls came out with nothing. Another example: some of the veg have rotting bits in it that have not been trimmed away. This was never an issue before with the old staff who were well trained and clearly experienced in this business. Also, there is no longer free kimchi at the sauce bar. The restaurant venue is still the same, and at least the dining area seems similarly clean as before. They are clearly cost-cutting. Lower quality staff, poorer service, lower quality ingredients, removing the Kimchi. This may be a sign of BigWay expanding too fast and sacrificing quality and consistency. The solution is simple. Go back to higher standards for your food and staff hiring. read more

I was craving for some hot soup and found this place. I was excited to try this new location. This location is smaller, but because it's located in downtown Vancouver, the side of the restaurant is pretty big in comparison. The place isn't too busy at late night, but with steady business. Everything is pretty Big Way standard, with the same selection of food and sauce bar. The quality of meat however isn't the best. The beef roll is way too fat with barely any lean meat on it. The sauce bar is also a little dirty compare to the Richmond location. But it was cleaned shortly after. The soup bases are the same, with the same level of spiciness. All the ingredients are cooked properly, which is pretty nice. The food came pretty fast, and the service is standard. It was a little hard to find the waitress when we needed a folk for our child, but since the place isn't big, we just grabbed it ourselves. I feel if I were to live downtown, I would want to come here all the time, based on the convenience of the location. I will visit again when I'm around the neighborhood. read more

It was a rainy day in June which called for hot pot. However, we weren't too hungry so Big Way was perfect because you can choose how much you want! Once you are done filling your pot with all the things you want, you get to choose the broth you want. They also have a dry mix option which is basically the spicies without the broth. I got their signature ma lang tang broth which comes with szechuan chilli oil. I loved it! If you are not too hungry though, I would recommend going for their spicy szechuan dry mix! My friend got it and we all loved it! It had lots of spiced and was cooked to perfection. We also got their taro milk tea which was pretty good! At the end they treat you to complimentary vanilla ice cream, I'm usually not a fan of vanilla ice cream but it is so satisfying to have it after a good hot meal. We came here during happy hour and it was not crowded and very clean. It was a cold day in Vancouver so we stopped in for dinner. It was super easy to customize your bowl and it was done very quickly. I got the miso broth and my brother tried the mala broth and my boyfriend got the collagen one. They were all delicious and the ingredients were very fresh and refilled quickly. The free tea at happy hour was a nice touch and the ice cream at the end was also very yummy! It was a busy Friday night for my most recent visit. Not sure if it's normal but I've been during the weekday and it was pretty dead there. The service was fast and they refilled our water even when the bottle wasn't empty. I was disappointed that they didn't have of a few of my go to items but other than that, it's pretty much the same as the other Big Ways that I've been to. I've been to this west end location many times. It feels more relaxing and peaceful compared to some of the other locations. Food comes out fast, and it's always fresh and tasty. I heard about the Big Way hype and checked it out with 2 friends! After weighing out the ingredients the cost was $15.67. not bad! Some of the stuff I chose included Bok Choy, napa cabbage, mushrooms, thinly sliced beef, and vermicelli noodles. The miso broth was delicious but just a little bit on the salty side. If I come back next time I would like to add a bit of hot water to the pot to adjust it. Overall, not bad! This location is among the most spacious of all locations because most of them are cramped. Little space. Biggest issue is they "stick a bowl and tongs" in your hands as soon as you walk in and literally NO customer ever washes their hands. Sauce bar lacks every ounce of cleanliness, and containers are always wet bc they never dry their dishes. This is our favourite place for lunch after we have gone for a walk around Stanley Park. Wait times are fast and the staff are super friendly and the service is professional. The food is fresh and the turn over is fast and the choices are plenty. So many ingredients that I haven't had since I was a kid. The wait times are way more reasonable and the only annoying part is how long it takes to get your ingredients and pay (Note: lineups like this is not the time to have a full on conversations contemplating life). Very delicious, VERY large portions, definitely recommend sharing 1 soup with someone. This is not a negative though, my friend and I went here during her Christmas break together and we ended up having so much leftover we were handing out hot soup to the local homeless people in the area. Took the family for dinner tonight at the Big Way Hot Pot on Robson. All of the staff members were very helpful and had a great attitude. My wife and I had the mildly spicy version of the Signature Broth while our daughtered ordered the bone broth. Both were really tasty and came with a healthy portion of fresh veggies, noodles, dumplings and countless other ingredients. All three of us at to our heart's content and the bill was very reasonable at just under $60. We'll definitely be back soon. It's really nice to have such great food and friendly staff in our neighbourhood! read more
