It was a rainy day in June which called for hot pot. However, we weren't too hungry so Big Way was perfect because you can choose how much you want! Once you are done filling your pot with all the things you want, you get to choose the broth you want. They also have a dry mix option which is basically the spicies without the broth. I got their signature ma lang tang broth which comes with szechuan chilli oil. I loved it! If you are not too hungry though, I would recommend going for their spicy szechuan dry mix! My friend got it and we all loved it! It had lots of spiced and was cooked to perfection. We also got their taro milk tea which was pretty good! At the end they treat you to complimentary vanilla ice cream, I'm usually not a fan of vanilla ice cream but it is so satisfying to have it after a good hot meal. I'm sure I'll be back here after summer is over.

We came here during happy hour and it was not crowded and very clean. It was a cold day in Vancouver so we stopped in for dinner. It was super easy to customize your bowl and it was done very quickly. I got the miso broth and my brother tried the mala broth and my boyfriend got the collagen one. They were all delicious and the ingredients were very fresh and refilled quickly. The free tea at happy hour was a nice touch and the ice cream at the end was also very yummy! This location is way less crowded than others and much cleaner too.

It was a busy Friday night for my most recent visit. Not sure if it's normal but I've been during the weekday and it was pretty dead there. The service was fast and they refilled our water even when the bottle wasn't empty. I was disappointed that they didn't have of a few of my go to items but other than that, it's pretty much the same as the other Big Ways that I've been to. They currently have the Thai soft serve now. It was ok but tasted watered down.

I've been to this west end location many times. It feels more relaxing and peaceful compared to some of the other locations. Food comes out fast, and it's always fresh and tasty. Staff is so friendly, too. I order on uber sometimes and I love the spicy tomato dry mix! Perfect balance of heat and spice.

After weighing the ingredients my total came to $15.67 !

I heard about the Big Way hype and checked it out with 2 friends! After weighing out the ingredients the cost was $15.67. not bad! Some of the stuff I chose included Bok Choy, napa cabbage, mushrooms, thinly sliced beef, and vermicelli noodles. The miso broth was delicious but just a little bit on the salty side. If I come back next time I would like to add a bit of hot water to the pot to adjust it. Overall, not bad! It was nice how they give you a free matcha ice cream cone at the end, which was a nice surprise.

Really fun to do DIY hotpot. I love that there are so many variety of vegetables, mushrooms and seafood to choose from. The Ma La soup base is great! Their sauce bar is help yourself. I love mixing vinegar, oyster sauce, chilli oil, sesame, oil, Cilantros together. Perfect for Ma La pot.

The restaurant is pretty big and they have some big tables but all the tables had only one pot hot pot which makes it hard for people to eat. I wish they had multiple pots for bigger tables so that it was inconvenient. Other than that, their service was pretty good and they also had a really good AYCE deal for $39/pp! We got their two flavour soup base - spicy beef and tomato soup base. Their meats and veggies were all fresh! They had a massive self-serve bar with sauces, tofu, fried chicken (which was delicious), noodles, bean curd, and other items. It was a good selection! You also get dessert in the AYCE menu with two options - vanilla ice cream and coffee pudding. I got their coffee pudding which was not bad, but it tasted AMAZING when mixed with the vanilla ice cream so I would definitely recommend that.

Not only is the food overpriced, but…read morethe service is aggressively hostile. The highlight of the night was a staff member slamming meat onto our table and condescendingly saying, "Wanna bet you ordered this?" I calmly told her with a smile that we didn't, as we are all allergic to chicken. Instead of an apology, she stomped away and slammed the receipt in my face. After reviewing it and realizing she was wrong, she simply blamed her coworker and didn't offer a single word of apology for her behavior. Beyond the attitude, the food quality is a bait-and-switch. The first batch of meat was okay, but every round after that was inedible, greasy fat. They take forever to serve you because they are too busy fighting with customers. Save your money and your sanity--stay away from this place.

Maybe it's an American thing to linger and enjoy a dining experience. To stay longer than needed to…read moresoak up the ambiance and give a good moment some extra time for memories. But in other parts of the world the meal is what's important and so is a quick turn around. Guu with Garlic reminded me a lot of the Izakaya restaurants I found under the train lines of Tokyo in many ways, including the amount of time it felt right to stay. The food came out quick, the servers took orders quicker, and the alcohol came out chilled and as nice contrast to the hot food. Looking around and you see the hand written menu on blackboard surfaces on the walls and this feeling of authenticity. The heat of the flames from the kitchen can be felt and seen if you sit at the bar. And the flavors just hit all the right notes. Starting with appetizers, a section izakayas shine at, the first dish we got was their scallop and mayo pizza. With a crispy crunch on the bottom and crust, this reminds you of the flavors of a baked volcano roll or scallop roll you can find in almost any North American sushi restaurant. Just like that dish, it's important to eat it while it's still hot so it doesn't get gross and 느끼 에. Then came the yellowtail tuna "tempura" pieces. Thick pieces of yellowtail tuna flash fried for just the right crisp on the outside with slight pink of the fish inside. It is meaty without being oily or fatty. Great bite. The beef tongue after was interesting. From the color of the sauce it accompanies it you would think it would be heavy in flavor but it is actually light and citrusy. A good cut into the richer tones of the beef tongue. The yaki udon was one of the best I ever had. It was smokey without being overpowering. The beef was thin and tender and balanced well with the mushrooms it also came with. The udon noodles stayed bouncy and chewy which I didn't expect from being grilled. Very tasty and highly recommend this dish. For our final bite we shared a hot stone bowl of their pork and cabbage rice. With the hot stone bowl constantly cooking even after this dish arrived it was imperative to stir the ingredients together constantly for the first two minutes. It allowed for the runny egg to meld with the rice and the crispy texture of some ingredients was a nice bonus. All in all, I loved eating here and if my appetite was bigger I would've tried more on their menu. A solid place to eat with a great atmosphere, if you're looking for delicious food that won't take too much of your time but still lingers in your memories you have to check out Guu with Garlic.

As usual, I'm late to the party. I've heard about Phnom Penh…read moreand its famous chicken wings ever since I moved to Vancouver, nine-ish years ago. My fellow Yelpers raved about this place when I first moved here, and my kid came here with her school pals 5-6 years ago and also raved about the wings. It's been on my list to come here forever - and last night, finally, I did. It did not disappoint. My kid warned me, there'll probably be a line up waiting to get in (they don't take reservations here. I checked), so we decided to go at an off-time and get an early dinner, around 5pm on Friday. We walked there and, miracle of miracle, there was no line and we got seated right away. (Granted, we got the last vacant table in the place, and when we left after our meal, there already was a line of people waiting to get in). Food-wise...wow. I am NOT one for adventurous eating, so there were dishes on the menu I couldn't comfortably order (I wish I could, but hey, I'm better now than I used to be!). Still, there was lots for me to choose from. And first and foremost, I HAD to try the famous chicken wings. And I can honestly say, they were the best I've ever had: SO SO crunchy and crispy on the outside, and hot and moist on the inside. OMG so so so good. I can't speak highly enough of these! My kid ordered the butter beef. It was tasty and soft ("like butta!"), and the marinade was lovely, but personally, I couldn't get over the...rawness and redness of the meat and juice (which looked like blood to me). For fellow non-adventurous eaters out there, this might not be for you, despite how flavorful it tasted. It was just hard for me to get over how it looked. (I know I'm in a minority here. This dish is one of their most popular and asked-for dishes). We had the garlic dry spare ribs. I love spareribs. These were delicious but a tad too salty and greasy. I brought most of them home and had them today for lunch. I gotta say, they were so much better for me today: less salty, and I blotted off the excess grease. Delicious! My kid ordered a "small" sweet and sour soup with prawns, and wow, it came in a huge black cauldren. I can't imagine ordering a large size. Anyhow, this soup was a stand-out soup - especially for my kid who said she had dreams about it all night (lol)! So complex in flavors - spicy, sweet, savory, chock full of prawns and sprouts and lotus shoots and pineapple chunks and and other delicious stuff.... For me, it was a wee tad too spicy, but wow, even I thought, this is a special soup. So delicious and warming. 10/10. Our servers were prompt and impressively able to efficiently tend to a full house of diners. They got it all down to a science here. One issue of note: my kid had to use the washroom at one point and she left for a very extended period of time. I actually thought at one point that something had happened to her or she was ill, she was gone so long (VERY unlike her). When she returned, she told me it was "quite a hike", around the back of the restaurant and up a flight of stairs, too. I only make note of this in case anyone has mobility issues, know that the bathroom will be difficult (or impossible) for you to access.
