We used A/C Mechanical for the first time recently, and they'll be our first call for any HVAC issues going forward. I managed to botch a thermostat replacement at the start of a heat wave, shorting out the blower control board (pro tip: flip the breakers before replacing your thermostat, kids!). Mel came out almost immediately, quickly diagnosed the problem, and explained that we'd need a new circuit board--which unfortunately wasn't stocked on his truck. Instead of making us wait days, he tracked one down at the office and came back that same evening, after 6 p.m., to install it. To make matters worse, I'd also managed to damage my brand-new thermostat. Rather than leave us without A/C, Mel temporarily jumped the fan so we could keep the house cool overnight, then recommended a thermostat model that would work well with our system. I picked one up the next day, installed it myself, and everything worked perfectly. On top of the outstanding service, I was pleasantly surprised by how reasonable the bill was. Our system is the original 30-year-old unit that came with the house, and plenty of companies might have used that as an opportunity to push a complete replacement. Instead, Mel fixed exactly what needed fixing and got us back up and running. Honest, knowledgeable, responsive, and fairly priced. I really can't recommend A/C Mechanical highly enough. read more

We have been using Mel for any and all services a/c related. They're extremely busy during peak season (like this current heat wave) so I don't expect them to squeeze me in when my a/c has issues. BUT, when they do, I (along with my furry dog) consider it a huge blessing. Julie (she usually picks up phone calls and schedules) is so nice and sincere. Erik is our favorite tech as he's extremely knowledgeable and patient with questions. Their service calls (and Freon refills) are affordable (or maybe on par with other companies idk). I can't say enough good things about Mel and his team at AC mechanical sol. Our AC worked, but not well. I called several companies to get advice all the others simply told me to buy a whole new system for tens of thousands of dollars. Mel was the only one that actually looked at my equipment and tried to fix it, and he was indeed successful. I've had him out a few other times for other issues and he's always very responsive and really truly knows what he's doing.. Recently we had a mini split put in a room and Carlos helped us out. Carlos was amazing. He patiently explained every bit of everything before he started and gave us helpful information about how to use the system and maintain it after install. The company is very poor and unprofessional at calling back. Also I purchase my furnace and AC unit from them and it came with a 7 year warranty. For 6 years straight my Freon kept leaking , all they did was refill the Freon and the leak would still happen. They tried to troubleshoot the issue, guessed that my coils above my furnace were leaking so they replaced that under warranty. Everything seems fine then the near my Freon is low again. They make up that my ac line, the skinny one is bad and they want to cut my walls up to fix the line. I hired a different company and they isolated the lines and told me the return line was bad. It's the thicker piping. So all in all I would not recommend anyone to this company I have been out of Freon for 6 years straight due to their incompetence. Please avoid this company if you need consistent AC. They did not advise me to fix my lines until year 7 of the issues. I never refused their advice. The advice was 7 years too late. You don't give that advice to a customer so late if you really care about them. I called your company 5 times to quote for the line repair and you failed to call me back. Please don't lie and say that I refused your advice. You sales rep kept saying. They would call me back and never did. You refused to bid my repair is the truth. My last follow up on Yelp for you to repair was May 13 which you ignored. Call me on Monday if you want to resolve this. read more

This place should really have 5 stars! My AC was running for 2 days straight with a completely clogged air filter choking the system and was dripping water. I replaced the air filter and the water dried up but I wanted a pro to come take a look and make sure there was no major damage. I got referred to Mel and sent him a Yelp message. Unlike other companies, these guys are actually honest, professional, and very reasonable in their fees. They don't invent "needs" via ungrounded fears on top of charging outrageous fees to take your money via a glossy multi-tier sales pitch of unnecessary work. Our technician Erik was not only friendly, patient, and punctual, he worked hard and was a straight shooter. Whereas another highly rated big company in the area recommended $3,500 of work on 2 separate AC units in my home, which I knew were lies and exaggerations, all it took was $90 to add refrigerant to one unit and a free inspection of the other. When I find a company like this, I stop looking around. I can't more highly recommend this company if you're in San Diego! read more

I waited to make this review to make sure everything cleared inspections and continued to work well and I can now say that A/C Mechanical Sol deserves 5 stars! I had a tough time finding a heat pump installer that could give me the latest model which uses the new refrigerant (R454B, an A2L type refrigerant with GWP 466). Mel came through for me and did it at a great price too. It has been operating perfectly for 4 weeks now and the efficiency is fantastic (based on midcycle update comparisons). It was really important for me to not get stuck with the R410A models that everyone is pushing now. They have to get those sold before the end of the year or they will be stuck with that inventory since it won't satisfy requirements. The global warming potential of those units (GWP) is 2088 so I am very happy that my unit cuts that to 466 AND operates super efficiently with its variable speed condenser unit (18SEER2). Mel knows his stuff, was very responsive, and his crew were super diligent. Highly recommended! read more

We had an appointment in the morning for a small project, we prepared the floor and surface even we have the ladder ready for the project early in the morning, however no one showed up after 10 so I called back , they said they are on the way, 12 o'clock no one showed up. called once again around 12, they told they will arrive in 1 hour 30 minutes, again, no one showed up, finally called again after 3 PM they started to gave the excuse of car issue. We have postponed our other appointment today for this and kept AC off for the entire day during hot summer just waiting them to come for the project. They dont even have the courtesy to give a call told us they will be late or not be there. This is what make us angry and upset most. Update: The owner said we agreed the new appointment. However this happened after 3PM when my wife tried her best to reach out the company and that is the only thing my wife could do at that time. Given the bad experience, my wife and I decided to cancel this project. This has nothing to do with the company's no show for the entire day without spending 30 seconds to inform us. read more

This company was subcontracted by Eco construction and energy to install an AC unit and split unit in our home. We have had numerous issues with the AC unit in the home and have to repeatedly call them back. The split unit in the garage was never fully installed and had a live power wire not connected to anything. I have attached pictures so you can see how it was left with paper shoved in the hole of the wall and the wire lying on the ground. I leave this review here so you can see that as the installers this should not have happened. Eco construction continues to maintain that this installation was done correctly and we now have to go to arbitration to fix this negligence. We are being told that Mel is all ready with his documentation and will defend this installation at arbitration. Be warned that if this is their attitude for subcontracting, it could be their attitude when they install something at your home. I have amended the rating as Mel called and will be coming to view the situation this week. I will further update after this meeting. read more

At 1245pm I called their office and I told them the tech didn't show and not to bother coming by later. If they can't keep appointments or notify me when running late, I'm not going to use their business. Time is valuable to everyone, and you can't keep potential customers hanging. I've worked with David twice now and by far the best hvac in San Diego. David is very transparent with all his prices and only does the best work. The first time I worked with him I had estimates from other companies that were much higher and the amount of time for the job was 2-3 days. I Scheduled an appointment to have my furnace and AC system evaluated and get a quote on repair or replacement with a new system. Set an appointment for 10 AM to noon. Day of the appointment no one shows up or calls. I call them at 12:15pm saying I had an appointment and no one called or showed up. They offered no apology just an excuse the technician is running late he'll be there at 1 PM. I let them know they should have called me or sent a text. Two hours later at 2:15 PM still no technician and no call or text. I call them again and told them what happened to see what their response would be.. I told them I couldn't wait anymore I have to go out shortly. Their response was "Would you like to reschedule?" No aplogy. I'm thinking- seriously are you joking? What does your schedule mean? Nothing. DISRESPECTFUL of MY TIME, UNRELIABLE and UNPROFESSIONAL. It would have taken 30 seconds to send a text message saying you're tied up, you can't make it, or you're going to be late. My review is 2 months late - that's relevant bc at the time, we were having a cold-snap by San Diego standards (30's/40's at night). My elderly parents' heater stopped working. I know I'm just another 5 Star rating for A/C Mechanical, but this man deserves every one. Mel is like having your neighbor, best friend, who knows about heating and air conditioning to come over and have a look at your problem. He gives you an honest answer to what you need to do and an honest price. I truly felt, Mel, was in no way trying to over sell or take advantage of me. My furnaces, 40 years old, was not working. My first impressions was that "here we go, time to replace both furnace and air conditioning systems because that's what we had been advised by other companies (8k-10k expense), but in comes Mel and with a tap of a screw driver he says you have a sticky replay. The tap got everything working and his responds was we can just leave it along or I can replace the relay for you. I asked well I don't what to take a chance the rely freezes up again, so how much.
