This place was excellent in the past. My latest visit was a major disappointment. The clams appetizer was border line inedible. My favorite veal parm was a disgrace. Not sure where the veal came from. Gave it two stars because I was feel generous and maybe it was a bad night. Ravioli was good. Tomato mozzarella was good as well. The real chef must have been held hostage in the back room because the food overall was not good. read more

The service was great. However, I wouldn't call this the best Italian cuisine. I had the penne with sausage and broccoli raab. The pasta was over cooked. The sauce was bland and had no taste. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER AT A CA MIA. Had a reservation, hostess couldn't find it. Reservation requested a seat indoors. They attempted to give us an outdoors seat where the smokers were walking by the front of the restaurant. Not once, not twice, but three times they tried to give us an outdoor seat. Finally, we are seated inside. Waiting for a waiter to even acknowledge we were there. Five, ten, fifteen minutes later the waiter walks by for the 7th time and says, "I'll be with you in a minute." Waited another five minutes before leaving. If you can not handle a Saturday night crowd, don't overbook the restaurant. This was once one of the go to places in Cape May for a fine italian meal. These days I wouldn't recommend it at all. BTW: It might make sense to have a hostess that speaks better english instead of two hostesses that speak little english. read more

The best word I can come up with to describe our experience at A Ca Mia is "awkward." When we arrived, we were seated right away, indoors (per our request). We were seated on the porch area, near the entrance/exit, hostess stand, and I guess the general "employee hangout area." The during our entire meal, I felt like the staff, who apparently didn't have much to do, as it wasn't that busy at the time, were just standing around, looking at all the customers. This just made us feel a little uncomfortable. The menu was rather limited, and surprisingly, for an Italian restaurant, didn't offer any of the standard vegetarian pasta selections. I asked our waitress if it was possible to just get a bowl of pasta with some veggies, and she told me she had to go check with the chef. She returned to inform me that the only vegetables they had were broccoli rabe and asparagus, and suggest that I order a certain dish off the menu that featured broccole rabe and sausage, but without the sausage. While I was surprised that an Italian restaurant wouldn't have all kinds of vegetables in stock at all times, I ordered the recommended dish. Now, on the menu that dish said it was served with an olive oil and garlic sauce, but when the dish came out, it most certainly had butter in it. The other strange thing about the menu is that there was no small side salad selection. I can accept if it doens't come with the meal, as many places only do a la carte, but any other restaurant I've been to at least offers a small side salad. On the contrary, if you want a salad with your dinner at A Ca Mia, you'll have to order a full dinner-sized salad, which is what my husband and I did, and split it. I was also dissapointed in the less than generous bread basket. One small little dinner roll for each of us. We declined dessert, opting instead to go for ice cream. A Ca Mia definitely does not portray the friendly, welcoming, "at home" feeling that most Italian restaurants embody. Definitely won't be wasting my time or money here again. read more

Excellent Italian food! In the downtown part of Cape May you will find A CA Mia, right across from the church. You have the choice of sitting outside or in, granted it all depends on the weather! If it is dinner time, I recommend that you reserve a seat before hand. I happen to sit inside. The waiter came right over to my table, asked to choose a drink and then brought a bread roll over, that was delicious! I ordered the spaghetti and meatball dish, with extra red sauce. This was probably the best spaghetti and meatball dish I have had! I even had extra to take home! Do note that things are kind of pricey here. I would certainly come here again. This restaurant is advertised as an Italian restaurant..... I should have known immediately that this place was going to be bad when i listened to the staff carefully, seemed as if the owners and all employees were eastern European or Russian and not Italian at all. I have no problems with that region, it is just not an authentic Italian restaurant. We had the Veal Parmigiana and the Salmon, both were rather bland and needed seasoning. The wait staff was extremely rude and not accommodating at all. Over priced.. They charged us $12 for a child's portion of pasta with butter.. talk about mark up. I hope the manager of this place reads this because last night was the absolute rudest service I believe I've ever encountered in my life. It's actually hard for me to fathom that in the middle of a pandemic, where so many restaurants are struggling to survive, a host can be so rude to a family. We arrived at 6:35 for a 6:30 reservation and the guy barks at my family that they were "15 minutes" late. Then he proceeded to sit them up at a make shift half sized table that at best could fit 2 people. When I arrived after parking the car to find this, I told him that we should be moved because the seating wasn't an appropriate socially distanced accommodation, and he got belligerent. There was another 4 top available but he said we'd then have to wait until other families sat down. I honestly felt like I was in the twilight zone, he was just so impossibly rude. I guess he figured a few busy weekend nights allows him to treat customers like crap? I have no idea but it was an awful way to behave. We found another establishment that was far more kind and accommodating. I have tried so hard to support local restaurants throughout this crisis but I'm afraid this is a place to avoid at all costs. read more

Walked in, sat down.... took them about 5-6 minutes for them to ask us what drinks we wanted... Was served bread and my friend reached for her butter knife and there was an ant crawling on it. We were sitting by the window, and saw that there were ants crawling along the windowsill. Told the waitress we wanted to move... I order a burger and asked for medium well-done. Burger was just a little warm when I got it and the center was pink. The bread they served wasn't warm... I also almost for to add that it's about $5 extra if someone else is caught trying your food you bought. Loved this place. We sat outside and the atmosphere was great because of the position of this restaurant. We got bruschetta, the arugula salad, and the portabella mushroom to share for appetizers, and it was all really fresh tasting and not too heavy on the flavors. I got the filet mignon for my main which was cooked a bit more than I asked for but overall very good. It was served with beautifully cooked asparagus and potatoes. For dessert we split "the napoleon" which was like layers of creme brûlée separated by thin nut wafers and it was the bomb to share with like 2-3 people. The cappuccino was pretty good too. My favorite restaurant from when I was a little girl visiting cape may with my family. My boyfriend and I came here for our romantic dinner date to start off our vacation, and the food and service was amazing! I am not going to lie.. I was a little skeptical of this place.. I was afraid it would be just to touristy being on Washington but boy was I wrong! The food was so good! Our sever Gabby was wonderful and recommended some great dishes! We came on a busy Saturday night but the service was spot on! The bruschetta app was one of the best.. for entrees we had the crab cake, meat lasagna, and the 2 specials cheese tortellini, and the Ossa Bucco. All delicious and all great for the price! The only reason I couldn't give it 5 stars is because the bread for the table wasn't great. Not very fresh at. But it was ok because not eating the bread left more room for the awesome food! Came here for a late-ish dinner on Friday evening. It seemed like main street (Washington) was very busy, so we first decided to check out other places to see what we were in the mood for. There were three of us- a somewhat picky eater and the other was in the mood for mussels. A Ca Mia was the first restaurant we saw, and after checking out other places and menus, we decided that was where we would end up. We did not have to wait long to sit. Inside it looks like they have more of a family-dining set up, with lots of larger tables. The inside was very serene and somewhat calm and cozy, but elegant. I saw this when I went to the restroom; we dined alfresco. Our young server came over immediately, and was very friendly. He took our wine order and then came back fairly quickly with our bottle of wine and took our food orders. Our food came out about 15-20 minutes later. My friend had the mussel marinara, picky eater had meat lasgna, and I had the scrimp scampi romano. All our dishes were really good, and the portions were perfect, though my mussels friend was a bit overwhelmed with her portion. My only complaints are with the service. It did not take too long for our food or wine to arrive, not did they skimp or neglect our water, but they did not bring us bread until our entrees were served, also when it came to settling the bill it took some time until our server, or a server came by to take our cards, but honestly, they were all very friendly and apologetic about any delay. A nice solid Italian place if you're vacationing in Cape May. Afterwards, you can go right onto the main street and get some dessert! read more

We did a walk-in to A Ca Mia on a Friday night in August. Dangerous, right? But we got in and were very pleasantly surprised. We were able to sit outside under the awning, a little tight, but definitely tolerable. I liked that the outer tables had the chairs positioned facing the sidewalk as if to imply that "the world is a stage". We all liked our meals, standard fare but done well. I went light with the Summer Salad and the Zuppa del Giorno. Couldn't have been better! The lasagna was delicious and even the burger got a thumbs up! The service was prompt and pleasant. We went here for dinner on a Friday night. It was a wonderful experience. We had the option of dining inside or outside. We chose inside. It was a quiet, relaxing atmosphere. We had high hopes for this Italian restaurant with a great location right on the main drag in downtown cape may. However, at first glance of the menu we were turned off by a few things. The children's menu was very limited. Also when we asked for two children's menus we were faced with resistance which we believe was doubt over our daughter being young enough which she is. Also we thought it odd that at an Italian restaurant they tell you on the menu that extra bread is a charge along with 20% gratuity for only 4 people. The clam chowder didn't taste homemade. The clams casino were tiny and only 6 on the plate. Out of four medium sized shrimp on my salad only two of them were thoroughly deveined. I was charged for jumbo shrimp. The first impression was very poor with this restaurant. One of the hostesses, she has curly, dark hair with multi colored glasses was a little snarky to us. With a party of six and a child, we all understood during a dinner rush it is important to get guests seated promptly with efficient service to maximize the number of guests during the rush. However, giving your guests an attitude for arriving past our reservation after we called and asked if we could arrive later, and we were told "no problem", being rude was not what we expected. We would go back for the food, except for the Cesar salad, and our server but if we saw the hostess standing outside, we'd immediately turn around. They were drunk and loud, in fact the dining room was so loud I downloaded an app to measure decibel level. Peak was 110 and the average was 92, the same as being 50 feet from someone using a jackhammer. I was disappointed in the vegetable lasagna, which was bland mush. The other food wasn't much better. A Ca Mia is a cute little Italian place on the Washington Mall. The restaurant was able to accommodate our party of 9 with a table outside, which was great for us to be able to take in the nice weather and great people watching in this busy area. Our waiter Will was very attentive, friendly and funny. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food. The group had a variety of dishes (Crabcakes, Veggie Lasagna, Chicken/Veal Parm, Ravioli Sampler, Shrimp Scampi) and there were no complaints. The red sauce on the pasta could have been a little tastier but all in all everyone was satisfied. Everyone was a little mystified by the "tuna mousse" butter concoction that they served with the bread - I didn't try it but those who did said it smelled more tuna-y than it tasted but overall wasn't something to write home about. Went for dinnern with my husband & a toddler. First this was one of the most expensive childre's menu we had evber experienced - $9.95 for just an entree & a cannoli for dessert (no drink). We chose the cheese ravioli in butter for my son and as the pic shows, it was 3 raviolis (stuffed pretty full) swimming in butter! That is way too much butter, especially for a child. Next the adult entrees of chicken parm & linguini with sausage were nothing good. The tomato sauce was just a can of stewed tomatoes, no actual liquid sauce made just lumps of tomatos. Chicken parm nothing different and the sausage in the other dish was not high quality sausage at all. Definitely would not recommend or return. Waitstaff was very nice but the hostess out front had an attitiude problem. For the price it definitely wasn't worth it. read more

Located in Cape May, this is one of the best northern Italian restaurants since our visit years ago to Bolzano, Italy, on the Italian-Austrian border. The starter was a luxurious zuppa di giorno, thick with zucchini and tomatoes. That was followed by a savory linguini dish covered with a succulently chunky, very delicious sauce drenched in clams and topped by steamed whole clams. The freshly grated Romano was delicate and not overpowering. The cannoli was a delicious end to the meal; not too sweet, with a raspberry ribbon making it as appealing to the eye as to the palette. My only fault when drinking alone was no wine by the glass. You need order a bottle or half bottle. All in all a phenomenal find. read more

The food is AMAZING. The service is .... So weird??? Our waitress's basically told us how to eat. We wanted to order an appetizer... she said no? We had to put the order in all at once... OK no problem. So we ordered two appetizer (soup and salad) and an entree to share. She wouldn't bring our food out tho in the order we were eating tho even after asking. She brought the salad and we sat for 20 mins, waiting for my soup. It didn't come so my date ate her salad, when I asked about the soup she said she "wouldn't bring it out until we finished the salad" but.... We weren't sharing that. So my date RUSHES kinda uncomfortably to finish her salad because I'm hungry and for some reason we aren't allowed to eat our appetizers together (there listed in the same part of the menu) , then she brings my soup with the main entree. Which kinda ruined the ambiance... since I was eating clam chowder with my lasagna.. It took kinda long and they brought us a bread basket with exactly 2 rolls.. we asked for oil and vinegar and it took about 4 people to ask because No one could understand us, so we just did without. If we had a better server it probably would have been 5 stars but I've never been so anxious and confused by a waitress. I really just wanted to go at the end.
