The food is AMAZING. The service is .... So weird??? Our waitress's basically told us how to eat. We wanted to order an appetizer... she said no? We had to put the order in all at once... OK no problem. So we ordered two appetizer (soup and salad) and an entree to share. She wouldn't bring our food out tho in the order we were eating tho even after asking. She brought the salad and we sat for 20 mins, waiting for my soup. It didn't come so my date ate her salad, when I asked about the soup she said she "wouldn't bring it out until we finished the salad" but.... We weren't sharing that. So my date RUSHES kinda uncomfortably to finish her salad because I'm hungry and for some reason we aren't allowed to eat our appetizers together (there listed in the same part of the menu) , then she brings my soup with the main entree. Which kinda ruined the ambiance... since I was eating clam chowder with my lasagna.. It took kinda long and they brought us a bread basket with exactly 2 rolls.. we asked for oil and vinegar and it took about 4 people to ask because No one could understand us, so we just did without. If we had a better server it probably would have been 5 stars but I've never been so anxious and confused by a waitress. I really just wanted to go at the end. Ate here with my fiancé over the Memorial Day Weekend. Food was average at best. Nothing stood out as horrible, but neither did anything stand out as great (except the delicious tiramisu). Shrimp cocktail and clams oreganata apps were so so. 4 tiny shrimp and about 6 even tinier clams. Clams were tasty, shrimp may have been frozen. I had the veal parm. Large portion, and pounded thin, but the tomato sauce was incredibly bland. My girl had a cheese tortellini Alfredo special, which was decent enough. Pricey for the quality. Pizzeria quality food. Price was right if you take into account location, no bottle charge, and other CM locales. I would go back. 2 stars for staff as they are very attentive and actually very nice. Hardworking people. The restaurant and menu are Italian, or at least that's what the names say, but flavors and texture of the dishes are close to Slavic cuisine. Having lived and travelled extensively worldwide, I am well versed in a country's cuisine and flavors. Ordered file mignon medium rare. It was well cooked since no pink color. Maybe to them that's medium rare. Not sure. Asparagus was a little overcooked and nothing to write home about. Mashed potatoes were lacking creaminess. Ordered tilapia with risotto timbale. Tilapia was very hot in the middle and warm around the edges. Usually that's a sign of microwave heating. Risotto is more like the rice cooked to stuff peppers (those flavors), if one has had stuffed peppers with rice. We gave the restaurant a try because of the good reviews and Italian menu. Great food! We had lunch on Sunday. Two great soups, Zuppa and Clam Chowder that we will come back for. Zuppa is veggie soup with bow tie pasta and Orzo. The clam chowder was origional and delectable. A fish sandwich with crusted panko and pasta salad was delish. Their serloin berger was the best I have had. We've gone here several times over the years with our young children ad the food was memorable. A high bar was set and today we were extremely disappointed. The food has gone down in taste, quality, and portion size but remains expensive. Bread was cold and tasteless. Entrees were sparse and pasta was from a box and red sauce on clam linguine was salty but tasteless if that's possible. Had to pay $5 to split my meal with my 9 year old child because the kids menu was so limited. I did not receive enough to share. 2 adults 2 kids and a bottle of wine (not sold by glass) cost us almost $200 with tip. Desserts were weird. Not worth $10 each and Napoleon was the worst I ever had. I used to be proud to go here because you could get a truly awesome Italian meal- now this place is just a tourist trap to under deliver on quality but gouge you on price. read more

Surprised to see negative reviews about the staff. They were very friendly and attentive in our experience. The restaurant was right near the Cape May Carriages so we went out of convenience. Turned out to be very good. We had the ravioli sampler which had a sauce that tasted very fresh and the filet mignon which was cooked very well. The side of mashed potatoes was dry though. Dined there this past Saturday and was so disappointed. We felt as though it was an Italian factory- they wanted you in and out as fast as possible. Appetizers and dinner all came out at the same time, the waiters would ask to pick up plates while you were still finishing up, we ordered and the food was on our table in 10 minutes (makes you think how fresh is the food), the lasagana's were luke warm. Lovely location in Cape May. Service was a bit slow. Meal was nothing to write home about--veggie lasagna was above average (not stellar) and other meals were fine not great. A plus was that even though it is BYOB but they do sell bottles of local wine through their adjoining cafe--and you do not even have to leave your seat. Pasta dinners for 2 adults and 2 kids plus a bottle of wine was about $100. Bottom line: not unhappy I went but would likely find some place else next time. read more

We were a small party of 4 with an elderly patron with a walker. From the onset the manager was rude regarding the walker and didn't give us a chance to move it. I ordered chicken parmigiana (which by the way is incredible at a neighboring restaurant Sapore) and it didn't have enough sauce on it. When I asked for some extra sauce the waiter said it would cost $3. I couldn't fathom that this could be true because the meal has sauce on it but needed more. I didn't order a steak and wanted some sauce; that would be acceptable. The manager was nearby so we asked him for the sauce explaining that the dish needed extra sauce. With this he created a scene citing that is the policy and that's it. He became very loud which was very embarrassing. We, however, kept our cool and said forget it. I refused to pay an extra $3 for a meal that was mediocre at best. I have frequented this restaurant in the past and was not thrilled with it but thought we would give it another chance. Never again. You can see that this restaurant is not run correctly by watching the staff. The staff were all very nice (my waiter was wonderful) but you notice that none of them help one another, In most restaurants the wait staff will work as a team but not here. If you ask for anything, a fork or water, they will get your waiter. I found that strange and I'm sure it comes from the top. That was the last time for Aca a mia for me! read more

I can completely appreciate the stress and difficulties that are surrounding the restaurant industry right now. I really do. But as soon as I showed up to this restaurant I felt so unwelcomed and everything was so overpriced. The hostesses barely gave me a hello and the one who took me to my table seemed like he wanted to flirt with me then he stopped himself... My dish (linguine with clams was so bland, which is whatever) so I asked for something else (lasagna) and was cold in the middle....I KINDLY told the server and was given an "...Okay...". REALLY? She didn't offer to take the lasagna off the bill. Entrees here are roughly $25....the lackluster food was made even worse by the rude service. Never returning. read more

Avoid, avoid, avoid! Let's start with the service. The server was rude. He was interrupted by another (rude) family while he was taking our order, and he walked away from our table after only half of us had ordered. He didn't even apologize when he came back. Just finished and left. My husband asked for extra Parmesan cheese. I guess they weren't in the mood, because the guy said, "hold on, I have something for you," and he came back with a block of cheese that he dropped off at the table and he walked away. Didn't leave a shredder or anything. After such rudeness, they had the nerve to add a 20% gratuity for our party of 7 (which included 3 kids under 3...) Now for the food. The bruschetta had way too much raw garlic. And I like garlic. The osso buco that my friend ordered had a huge chunk of fat on it, and half the meat was inedible. The broccoli rabe that my other friend ordered was devoid of any flavor. My vegetable lasagna was disgustingly salty, and I found whole garlic cloves in it. There is much better food in cape may. The location is beautiful. We sat outside as we have two young children and we had to leave our stroller on the side. My husband and I ordered a prefixed meal where we got a salad and then the meal and a cannoli for dessert. My husband ordered the linguine with white clam sauce and I ordered linguine with red clam sauce. We both were not impressed with the meal. It didn't taste authentic Italian as my husband and I are both Italian. We ordered meatballs for our kids and it didn't taste that great either. I have to say the service was excellent. But the food not to rave about as it sort of tasted like a pizzeria meal for a higher price. We will not be coming back to this restaurant again. read more

A hot and busy day in Cape May. A Ca Mia looked like a shady haven to this traveller. It turned out to be a rewarding joy. I think I knew that we were in for good food the moment my iced tea was delivered, which was very promptly indeed. It was simply the best iced tea I have had in the USA. Classy. Our meals were superb. Clam chowder was light in consistency and rich in clams. A sophisticated variation on the theme. Elegant. Our salads were perfection. The special which is a menu pair with the soup was crisp and interesting and substantial. The tomato and mozzarella salad with chicken was extremely generous and, again, of the best possible quality. Ripe heritage tomato with delicate, young mozzarella very handsomely presented. A good trail of basil pesto and a beautiful olive oil were underlying the dish, along with some baby salad leaf. The grilled chicken had been marinated in herbs and spices and had a salty succulence which was just moreish. Particularly good lightly grilled bread accompanied both salads. ATMOSPHERE: Bustling! This restaurant is a quaint little place, located on a promenade of sorts in the touristy district of Cape May, NJ. We were hungry, it was a busy Saturday night over Memorial Day weekend, and most all restaurants were packed to the gills with long waits. A Ca Mia was not a deliberate choice, but more somewhere we stumbled on at the end of the street. That said, it was a nice experience, and we were quite happy we lucked upon it! The hostess sat us almost immediately on the outside patio, so we were able to people watch on a lovely summer night - a bonus in their favor! FOOD: Good - while they won't win any awards for creativity / originality, the menu provides a good option for Italian food, executed to a decent standard. We started with a traditional tomato and mozzarella caprese salad, which was fresh, but not really memorable. For entrée's, we had: (1) Shrimp Scampi Romano - The dish had a light cream sauce with a hint of lemon. For me, there wasn't enough lemon, but other than that nice enough. The shrimp were well prepared, not overly "fishy", and the capers just enough without overpowering. I've had world's better in metropolitan areas, but considering the location, this dish earns good marks from me. (2) Tortellacci w/Prosciutto & Peas - Similar to the above, the dish features a light cream sauce with peas and pan fried prosciutto bits. The sauce is pleasant enough, if slightly bland, and I eat most of what is served. A side note that from the taste, I believe both tortellaci and linguini noodles come from a box... where this isn't necessarily ALL bad, at the prices charged, I'd have expected fresh, in house made noodles. (3) Kid's cheese pizza - surprisingly tasty, given the quality of other kid's meals, and our little one ate almost all of it, and was very happy. I'd guess it was the homemade focaccia bread from the attached bakery that made this special, but either way I wish I could have gotten a big person's portion (4) Kid's spaghetti - Also nice, though again slightly bland in flavoring. It was hot, it was spaghetti, and they humored my little one by making it with linguini instead of penne noodles at her request, which she loved. SERVICE: Good, but not great. Our server took the order promptly, brought bread made from the attached bakery which was quite lovely, and returned to serve our food, and again when it was time to clear plates and bring the check. Our water glasses went empty, but we had other drinks so it wasn't a total loss, but it would have been nice to be served a bit more than we were. VALUE: Not good enough to warrant the high price tag. The shrimp dish was $23, the Tortellaci $21, and each kid's meal $10 - add to that a $10 salad and a $40 bottle of wine, and the total price tag with tip and tax was just over $150. I have paid less money in a major city for far, far more flavorful food, so the value just wasn't there for us to return if ever the opportunity presents. In all, we were happy to be sat on short notice, and have a reasonable meal in our tummies at the end of it. SIDE TIP IF YOU GO: Bring your own wine, you'll save yourself near $30 by doing so and the restaurant is one of MANY that allow it. Second, focus on menu items that feature breads or items from the bakery, it really is what they do best, and you'll be happier. read more

I'm giving this restaurant two stars instead of one because most of our entrees were good. It was the experience in the restaurant which compelled me to review this place. We were sat quickly and attended to right away. The waiter was very solicitous. Okay I was caught off guard by the fact that we didn't realize it was a byob and could only buy bottles of wine (why is that?) but no big deal. One of my party ordered a house salad which was very good but halfway through found a dead fly in it. Okay . Deep breath. The waiter brought a new one immediately. When we received the bill we had hoped they might remove the cost of the salad as a professional gesture. Nope. So we asked. The waiter came over very agitated and asked why we were questioning the bill. So we explained. He had the salad cost removed ( really - $8.00 from a $300.00 dinner bill?) And then just ignored us for about 20 minutes. We finally had to go find him to pay ( unfortunately the tip was included) which took another 10 minutes - in a totally empty restaurant. Two stars only for location and because I liked the BYOB feature. Came here with a party of 8 and we were all highly disappointed in both the food and the service. First off our waiter was rude and our service was extremely rushed. They will not let you put in the appetizers and dinners separately- everything together and as we feared, as soon as the appetizers were finished the entrees came out. The clam chowder, penne with broccoli rabe, and linguini and clams were all EXTREMELY bland. My clam sauce tasted like just the water the pasta was boiled in. No garlic in anything we had! The lasagna also left much to be desired, if you could even call it lasagna. This restaurant doesn't even know how to cook pasta correctly. At the end of the night we were trying to pay the bill and the waiter said my husbands card chip wasn't working, which could not have been true because it is a brand new card and we'd used it before and immediately after with no issue. My fiance and I went here on the night we got engaged. We were in Cape May for the weekend, he proposed by the lighthouse.. it was perfect. Then we went into town for dinner and walked around and found this cute little restaurant with outdoor seating. I love Italian food, and this place had great Italian food, obvs. I got the Ravioli sampler which consisted of 4 different kinds of ravioli and my fiance got chicken parm. His plate was HUGE.. like over flowing and he couldn't finish it. I almost ate all my ravioli except 1 lol. SO DELISH! It was BYOB but we didn't know that so we didn't bring any, BUT luckily, they served wine by the bottle! Only one brand of wine, Turdo Vineyards.. which coincidentally we had gone to earlier in the day to wine taste and have a glass of wine on the cute little porch at the vineyard! (also, my fiance knows the owners son which is why we decided to go to that winery.. and ps. Turdo is adorable.. I def recommend checking it out and doing a wine tasting!) So to sum it up, A Ca Mia was perfect for the occasion, very quaint, outdoor seating on a perfect summer night and amazing Italian food paired with a great bottle of wine! read more

I enjoyed this place, however, I don't think it was the best meal I've ever had. The atmosphere was nice and the food was good, but not great. Service was slow, but nice. I got spaghetti and meatballs and my husband ordered the penne with italian sausage. While we did eat it all, I didn't find it to be very flavorful or exciting (I know, since when is spaghetti exciting, right?). I think meatballs should be pan sauteed, then baked and then cooked in sauce, but it seemed these were just boiled. Also, my husband's dish was pretty uninteresting with a pretty boring chicken broth-like sauce. If you only have a few nights in Cape May, my opinion would be to skip this restaurant and head down the block to Cucina Rosa, which is the gold standard for Italian Restaurants. read more
