I did not choose this repair shop. Instead, AAA did and I'm glad they did because it was a good choice! The tow truck drivers were quick, kind and very helpful. The mechanic I spoke with over the phone (Ray) was really nice and communicative, and did a good job of explaining what was wrong with my car. I also appreciated that he was "real" and down to earth. He was empathetic with me having my only car broken down, and did everything he could to fix it ASAP. I was in an accident recently and a AAA tow truck arrived. The driver was super nice. He gave me two options. Tow it to my house for a free or take it to A-Car Auto on Walnut for a free estimate. I chose the latter, maybe it wouldn't be so expensive. I never got a call so the next morning I walked over to see what the cost would be for the body work. Turns out the vehicle was totaled and they'd be selling it to a junkyard. I asked, "How much do I get for that?" Keep in mind junkyards pay about a thousand bucks for a totaled car. She said, "Nothing. It all goes to fees." "What fees?" "Over $200 for the tow and over $400 for lot fees." Keep in mind that it's against the law to charge LOT FEES when doing an estimate. So it was either pay $640 to get my vehicle back or bring them the title so they could sell it. They profited a thousand bucks on a vehicle they don't even own. They have an F rating with the Better Business Bureau. Let's shut this place down and take away their business license. Definitely a scam. read more

I'm not a fan of leaving bad reviews. My Audi was being serviced by Audi of Pasadena. I needed the vehicle towed back to my home and contacted AAA. AAA contracted the job to A-Car to tow my vehicle. A-Car called me up to confirm the pickup and drop off location. I told the gentleman on the phone that if they were planning to secure my vehicle to their flatbed by using tow straps through the wheels, I would like it if they could place a cloth between the tow strap and the wheel to avoid any scratches to the wheel. The A-Car staff member immediately became apprehensive and started making up excuses to not tow the vehicle because he was assuming there is a lot of liability. Dude, it's a simple matter of placing a rag between the wheel and strap. These guys apparently don't know how to do that because they started telling me that they are not allowed to tow vehicles for AAA from a business to a home. This is simply not true and was verified by AAA. Basically they refused to tow the vehicle and as a result, I was unable to have the vehicle towed today since AAA couldn't find another contractor to service the area. Bottom line is this; do you really want to trust a company that doesn't know how to place a cloth/rag in between a wheel and tow strap? Im vehicle-less now because of their inability to do basic tasks. They should not be AAA approved. read more

I had my car towed by the city. When I came to pick it up at their Pasadena facility, the lady in the office was unprofessional--no greeting or anything. After paying the fee, she told me that the car was stored in another facility in downtown LA, over a 30-minute drive. I asked why, and she just said that's how it is, without even verifying the information. However, when I drove there to pick it up, the car could not be located in the other facility. I called the office and was told over the phone that it was just a mistake on their part, and they have the car. Once I came back, I had to wait yet again for them to even pay attention to me. Only after saying that I am not willing to wait any longer, after they had already made me drive to a different city, they called an employee to release the car. My car was towed to A-Car Auto after an accident 3 blocks away in Pasadena. This was a top to bottom terrible experience. The staff was extremely rude and insensitive. This company took advantage of a terrible situation and price-gouged on top of it. They charged $570 to to my vehicle the 3 blocks to their shop ($390 tow fee, $180 "site fee" just to look at the vehicle), late on a Wednesday. While the situation went through insurance, I checked on their impound fee, an egregious $175/day. When asked if they charge over the weekend while they were closed the answer was yes. I later found out they were indeed open on Saturdays so I could have removed my vehicle but I'd already been lied to so they could make an extra $350. Each time I either went into their office or called I was met with an abrasive, rude, tone of voice. It was clear all they wanted was my money and had zero interest in helping out a person in their community. Without even looking at my vehicle, they claimed it was totaled and tried to force me to sign it over to the insurance company (handwriting a statement and pushing the pen towards me). When I asked to take pictures of my vehicle for the insurance claim, they pointed me towards the back alley of the shop, where it was parked in such a narrow space I couldn't actually take any pictures. I eventually had my car towed to Eagle Rock (two towns away)...for $175. I will NEVER recommend this business and will be reporting this to AAA, as well. BEWARE!!! I wish I could give this place less. Truck was stolen, later was told by the police station that the vehicle was intact but when we got there the truck had been completely stripped bare!!!! And the guy was pushing so hard for us to sign over the title as if that's the only option there was. But got a call back from the shop that they unhooked it just as fast and they left per supervisor. No reason at all was disclosed. DO NOT use this tow service!!! Kim, the representative that takes the calls and should be helpful, was HORRIBLE and she hung up on me without giving me info about why my vehicle was left behind. My parked car got hit by another vehicle pretty badly during the night, so Pasadena Police called A-car to tow. All I was calling about the next morning was to ask how I could get the process started to tow to a body shop of my choice. The guy was making a fuss about how they needed to get paid first to release my car. Dude, just hold on a second! He told me I needed to go there to allow them to release to my insurance, so that they pay to release my car. Without my car? Really? He told me I needed to write a release and take photos of some personal identification and vehicle registration so he could release to my insurance. My registration is also in the car like it's supposed to be. So I had to also write to let them go into my car to get the registration. So, I get everything squared away with my insurance and the auto body shop so that their urgent concern to get paid before even starting a conversation is addressed. I tell them my car is on its way. The guy said ok. It's 3PM on the WEDNESDAY before Thanksgiving. I get a call from the tow truck my insurance called for and the auto body shop that A-Car was closed and so they can't get the car until FRIDAY morning. So this place really fucked me over and got paid extra keeping my car hostage for the holiday too. Despite getting hit really hard, my car had a car fragrance clip that I bought custom made that was still attached right before my car got towed away. It's missing. So, where do you think it went? I am never going to let A-Car tow my car and keep my car in the lot, or any other service for that matter. I rather have it set on neutral, pushed to the side, and accumulate tickets at this rate. I could not be more thankful to A-Car Auto Repair services. I am a teacher and had seven kids in my van for a field trip two hours north of our school when the van suddenly wouldn't shift out of park. What a nightmare! I called Triple A, and despite the hour estimated he arrived in ten minutes, figured out what was wrong, and despite me not being able to supply the users manual for a fuse replacement figured out a temporary solution that at least got us home. He even followed me to the gas station on the corner to make sure it could stop and restart properly and we wouldn't end up stranded somewhere halfway. Worked like a charm! They are good at what they do and really went the extra mile. 10/10 would call again in a moment of need. Great value. read more

Experiences that night: *they were an hour later than we were advised they'd be; *they insisted we accompany them to the mechanic; *the driver lost our key. When I tried to deal with A-Car: *I wound up speaking with an abominable woman; *She refused to even discuss the situation with me; *She told me that everyone who worked at AAA (except for managers) was an imbecile. If they dispute the facts we're SOL. So, we're out the cost of the key, out the huge amount of gas at $6+ a gallon going to the mechanic, home, back to the mechanic, and back home. Car battery died today, and after calling AAA, Mr Ernie from A-car arrived within 30 minutes to charge and test my battery. He provided excellent, knowledgeable service. He didn't have my car battery, but Louis at A-car spent several hours calling other AAA trucks and finally found one! Mr. Ernie came back and skillfully installed the car battery. It was tough because it was underneath the passenger side of the car and weighed about 50 lbs. But he spent time to do it right. Excellent customer care & service. read more

My 335i BMW stalled on the freeway at 830PM. The "Drivetrain Malfunction" message. To us BMW owners, that means $$$ out of pocket. $1,000 at the lowest, and who knows how high it can go. My AAA driver, Paul, suggested I take it to their shop so that Ray, the manager, can take a look at it in the morning. I agreed. In my head, I'm gonna get up sold and end up paying thousands of dollars get my car fixed. The following morning, Ray called me and told me that the car needed gas and that my gas reading was not correct. I cautiously asked how much everything would cost and he candidly and reassuringly said that it would cost me $10.00 - TEN DOLLARS - for the gas! I was very grateful for his honesty! Thank you, Paul! Shouldn't be an AAA subcontractor. It took them almost three hours to come tow my vehicle. They originally sent a battery guy to come get the car started. He phoned in a tow truck that never was ordered. I had to call AAA and they said a tow was never ordered... you guys are in Pasadena. I was five blocks away. Come on now.. Even the battery guy said the dodger game was keeping their drivers in if you know what I mean. Dispatcher was no help with her made up estimated time lines. Overall, not impressed. Truck was towed here. Went to pick up and tow to new location next day at noon and they charged me for 2 days of storing truck there. When I questioned them, they said truck arrived at 11p night before so they consider it 2 days. The tow truck arrived at our location about 11:15 to pick up truck, which was still locked up with another car in accident, so there is no way it arrived to their location before midnight. Don't trust this place. Horrible customer service, super slow, and multiple reps who lie to your face and cover for each other. Many unhappy people are forced to come here since they deal with impound vehicles, and it's quite a negative environment. Seems they may run a racket of some sort with the auction process for impounded vehicles since the address is listed at this location for auction per city of Pasadena paperwork but is not actually the real location.
