A few weeks ago, I called A Cut Above Salon to inquire about the price to have my hair washed, blown out, and hot ironed. The young lady (without even asking the length of my hair) had me hold on a few moments and then came back on the phone and told me it cost $38.00. Then, a week later I called again, spoke to a different person and was told it would cost $45.00. Then, today, I went to the salon. When I entered, there was no receptionist at the desk and I actually had to step further into the salon. The stylists acted as though I wasn't even there. I waited a few moments and cleared my throat in the hopes to get one of their attention. I then said, "Excuse me. Can you tell me the price to wash, blow out, and hot iron my hair?" The stylist closest to the front replied, "Uh, Fifty," and then turned to the stylist standing toward the rear of the store and asked her, "Right? Fifty?" The stylist nodded and replied, "Yeh. Fifty." (Mind you, I am a senior citizen). Do they not have a posted price list for the services they offer so all customers are charged the same price? (I also feel it should be noted that the hair of the person who exited as I came in was really not much to speak of). I am from New York and even in the big city did I ever experience that! So in conclusion, my new name for this salon is A Price Above Its Own First Price Quote for A Cut Below. I will not be going there and am even considering reporting this salon to the Better Business Bureau. read more

Great salon without the pretention you feel in other upscale places. You pay for what you get! More affordable than many salons in the area and highly experienced technicians. I have a combination of curly/straight/wavy hair and both Linda and Melissa are great with that kind of hair. They recommend great products to deal with humidity, frizz, and dry hair. I recently had natural highlights put in my almost black colored hair and it looks very natural. Everyone says how much younger I look now. If there's a problem with your hair taking to a certain dye (especially if you've had frequent treatments at different places), I've seen them call their Redken representative to discuss specific solutions right then and there. I have been going there for over 20 years and I've seen total makeovers, fabulous long to short cuts, brand new styles, and unreal highlight/lo light jobs. They have very experienced colorists there who do a great job. They also specialize in weddings/proms/formals, etc. All the local high school girls go there for their special events. Plus, there's tons of MEN who go there and have been going for years. If you just want a buzz you can go to a barber (although they do it there too).. but if you enjoy a good scissor cut, you won't be disappointed. read more

I came in to the salon, 1/18/20, for a partial highlight and while the stylist was very nice, I cannot express how unhappy I am with the results that I received. Upon seeing my hair I was very overwhelmed. There appeared not to be a manager in the store to express my concerns and I was in a rush to get back to my kids so I needed to leave. I paid $115, left no tip, I wish I didn't now but I was so overwhelmed at the time. At home I could clearly see that my hair was too heavily highlighted and it was not evenly painted for a very unnatural look which shows clearly at the roots. I am not a very difficult person and I feel bad about writing this, but as a mother who rarely gets out to care for myself I am upset that I paid for this. The stylist suggested that I come back again another day so that she could tone it, but honestly I did not feel confident in coming back to the salon after this experience and ending up paying $300 at another salon to fix my hair. I followed up two times with my experience asking for a refund, however I never receive a response. This is the best salon I have ever been to. Linda is amazing. I have been to all the pricier salons in the Princeton area and what i've realized is they are NOT worth the money. Everyone at this salon was excellent. I came in for a keratin treatment and Linda was way less expensive but 10 times as good. She also pointed out ways my highlights could be improved and now i'm going to go to her for everything. The women are talented, knowledgeable and truly want to make your hair better for a reasonable price. I have found my forever hair place. read more

Looks like first review. That's a first for me. Men's haircut. I have done everything from the mall to metropolis. I walked in without appointment and was well treated from the start. One might think a men's haircut is not that difficult, but I have a had some that just were not carefully done. But here, left very satisfied with professional competent friendly result at a quite reasonable price. Will go back. Can't vouch for how they handle women's hair. But four stars from me. read more

If you have any questions about the service here, read the "about us" on their website...Every single thing Linda says there is absolutely true. I have been bouncing from salon to salon for years and found this one near my work and thought I'd try it out. I was nervous because I wanted to try something new with my hair, but was a little unsure of what I wanted. Linda (the owner) not only responded to my email personally and right away, but she got me in quickly, and she and her assistant Keara both stayed with me past closing and never once made me feel rushed. She sat with me for a good 20 minutes before starting anything and talked to me, looked through pictures, and showed me swatches. She is so knowledgeable and taught me things about hair that no stylist has shared with me in all these years. She is very passionate, patient, and super talented. As for my hair, she somehow took a mix of colors to create a really nice blend, so that now it's almost like my hair changes depending on what light I'm in, how it's falling, etc., and I just love it. Linda is also very sweet, doesn't try to up-sell, and in fact makes sure to work within your budget to get the results you want for a price you can handle. I'm excited to go back to see what she does next time :) read more

I have been going to the "Cut Above Salon" for over 5 years, and I have yet to be disappointed. Melissa cuts and colors my hair and does a fabulous job each and every time. She listens to my concerns and provides the education needed to keep my hair looking good. I also find the other stylist warm, friendly, engaging, and professional. This was one of the most unprofessional salons I have ever been to. The stylist had zero personality or ability to make me feel welcome. I was told I had dry ends despite the fact I deep condition and get trims every two months, I was reprimanded for washing my hair daily and was completely ignored when I told her what kind of cut I'd like. To add to the unprofessional atmosphere, my stylist took a phone call from her cell in the middle of my cut. While all this was going on the staff was yelling back and forth across the salon and the kicker was when one of the younger stylist went into the wax room to take a mid morning nap while resting her boots on the bed clients lay on when getting waxed. She did make sure the staff knew to wake her for her next appointment, though, by yelling 'WAKE ME UP AT 1 WHEN MY CLIENT ARRIVES' followed by a slamming door. All in all I am highly disappointed because this salon is in a higher end area. I would think there would be more of an effort to adapt to the clientele but apparently that is not a priority to this group. read more

My experience with A Cut Above Salon was a pleasant and educational experience. I am very particular about my hair, as are most woman, and very soon after sitting in the chair; I felt that I was in good hands. My highlights and cut came out especially well. I was resistant to have my hair trimmed, because I prefer a longer style, but my Stylist Melissa explained to me the importance of the trim and how its best for ones hair. Not only did she teach me things about hair health that I was not privy too prior my visit, she also trimmed my hair without taking off much of my length, which I appreciated. Many times when you tell a stylist to only take a little off, in many cases, they take off much more than desired....in this case my request was respected. Not only did I leave feeling refreshed and brand new, I left with knew knowledge about my hair and hair in general. I would and have recommended this Salon to many woman I know asking for a great salon to go to. If you are searching for great hair service, pleasant salon environment and great conversation this is the salon for you. read more
