The locksmith came right away when I locked myself out of my condo. He charged $80 cash, which seems fairly reasonable to me on such short notice at about 7:30pm on a Monday night. He insisted on seeing my ID and a piece of mail to verify that it was in fact my home I was asking him to essentially break into. Odd duck. Have no idea with whom I spoke b/c connection bad & he spoke so fast. Ended up going with another company recommended by property manager. When I called him back to tell him his services wouldn't be needed, he was aggressive with me. "So, you were calling around to see who could come out?" Yes, I was, strangely enough. "Who'd you call? Who's there now?" I told him I didn't see the need to give him that info and ended the call. He called back & left a msg that he "was trying to help you...places advertise themselves as locksmiths but don't know what they're doing..you'll be charged a lot more for things you don't even need." Yeah, ok. I can't speak to his quality of work; only that our conversation was not productive and his communication skills need a good deal of work. Excellent service! When I called, Leo first tried to walk through how to fix the problem to save us the $75 service fee (fair price especially considering it was after 6pm). When we determined we did need him to come out, he was there within 20 minutes and fixed the lock in about 3 minutes. I am a manager at a local establishment and needed a locksmith to fix lock on a bathroom door. After he was called he was here in about an hour! Good experience today. I locked myself out of my condo, called Leo, and was there within an hour. His estimate was $95 which I thought was reasonable and that was the amount I paid at the end. He even fixed my dead bolt to make sure I had at least 1 inch clearance. This was a nice bonus as he did not need to make this fix so I am very greatly. Very rude on the phone. I was calling around trying to find a retail locksmith that had Sunday hours.

I'm impressed. The QUALITY of work that was performed on my doors (I had several doors re-locked and re-pinned) was seriously outstanding. Now that's a freakin' lock! lol Dependable Locksmith was exceptional in communication. I can't tell you how thankful I am for the amount of time they spent with me and my landlord over the phone - they asked about the types of locks I currently had, even recommended to take photos and send them so that they could help me to understand what it is that I currently had vs. what could be done differently and why. They considered my safety first. That's really appreciated and most important to me. They educated me on the different types of locks out there and my options - not to mention they were knowledgable of building codes in the city of Chicago - very important because many landlords will hire a friend to go buy a lock at a retail store and install it when they really don't understand the building codes or what constitutes a quality lock - not to mention the quality of locks at retail stores are just not anywhere near what these are. This locksmith knows what's current and durable out there. This locksmith has immense talent in his profession. A professional is really vital and these guys are just that. I called Dependable Locksmith after reading all the raging reviews. Unfortunately, I am so disappointed with this company. I locked my keys in my car last night. Boo. Even worse, I left the keys in the ignition. Double BOO. My parents have a spare key, but they live over an hour and a half away and were busy. I needed to get my car unlocked asap so I called this company. The guy who I talked to on the phone was completely rude, unhelpful, and ignorant. I understand that when you lock your keys in your car, you need to prove to the locksmith that it is indeed your car. However, in my situation, the car is under my mother's name, for cheaper insurance purposes, since I'm in college. I have the same last name as my mother and tons of bills/old pay stubs in my car, so I was hoping there was something else that I could do to prove that this was indeed my car. Right off the bat, he was condescending and rude. He would interrupt me every five seconds with a rude remark. Maybe if you would have let me finish my sentence, we could have figured out a solution to this problem and you would have received my business. I understand and respect that you are trying to cover your ass and follow policy, but there is an appropriate and friendly way of dealing with customers that you just did not show today. I called another wicker park Locksmith who listened to my situation and was willing to find a way to resolve it. Thanks for nothing. read more

My daughter stopped by to visit and accidentally tried to open my front door with her apartment key, which got REALLY stuck in the lock. Tried drowning the lock in WD-40 several times and took the doorknob assembly apart, but the key was still stuck like the Sword in the Stone. Threw in the towel and called Leo, who had me text him a pic of the state of things so he could quickly make an assessment. He explained what had happened with my master-keyed lock, and suggested that I could probably have my cheap 20-year-old lock repinned/replaced at a local lockshop the next day for about the same price as his (reasonable) minimum fee would be for coming out the same night. Appreciated the advice, but I decided to take a chance and have him come out with the hope that he might at least be able to get my daughter her key, even if the lock itself was shot. To my pleasant surprise, Leo was not only able to get the key free in short order, but the lock was still operable (with the right key, of course!). Leo reassembled things and even made a minor repair to tighten up the front door's chronically loose strike plate, all for the minimum fee! read more
