When I adopted two young dogs who are litter mates from Palms & Paws animal shelter, I didn't know what I was getting into. After a year of chaos, I knew I needed professional help. I want to take a moment to share our recent dealings with Ashley. But let me first start with, we have 3 rescues. Our first, Paloma, is a 4 year old female Doberman Ashley has trained and boarded several times. Recently we had Ashley board Paloma and our newest rescue Paxie, a 9 month old female Doberman that was found on the streets eating out of trash cans and emaciated. Ashley's job was to train and care for both pups for a week while we traveled. We first had concerns with Ashley's attitude when we dropped our girls off. She was rushed, dismissive and never inquired about a training schedule. While we were on our trip we never received updates on their well-being until we saw Ashley posting IG stories calling Paxie "rude" "invasive" and "bullying". These words were used without context and without corrective behavior, it just appeared as ranting not training. Reminder, Paxie is only 9 months old and was abused, neglected and homeless her whole life before us. Later we observed on IG another local "trainer" that we did not hire had Paxie in her care. Ashley never notified or received permission from us to hand Paxie off to another person to care for. She then continued to use inappropriate name calling in a follow up email to us after we asked for an update on Paxie's training during her boarding time (see attachment). This has been very hurtful, disappointing and unprofessional. Our rescue dogs mean everything and we entrusted Ashley to care for them, not have an attitude because Paxie wasn't fitting into her "way of doing things". She talks about her approach being "relationship based". Relationships take patience, care, understanding and empathy. Not name calling and disrespect to clients that have supported Ashley's business for years. Mind you, do your research and confirm Ashley's "credited dog training". Thank you for reading this. I began training with my dog with Ashley on September 29, 2025 as I was having a most difficult time with a dog that I had rescued. She was trapped under a collapsed cabin's roof on a very cold and windy January day. It took me five hours to get her out as she was traumatized and resistant beyond words. She was about ten weeks old, and once I had her cleaned up she was a beautiful puppy; I named her Raven. Getting Raven on a leash was a huge hurdle for quite a while. I had to learn how my energy affects my dogs (as I have two others) was critically essential, and was the hardest lesson I had to learn. I did not know it at the time she was teaching me how to have a dog. She was often skittish and would avoid me at all costs, so my first lesson was to build a good vibration of calm and trust. I had to learn to speak less and to keep training positive. To learn when she tried to control me and training. About October 25th Ashley wanted me to keep her on a leash twenty-four hours a day so that Raven would look to me as a "home base," I did not think I could do this, though Ashley convinced me this was the best way to change Raven into a trustful and connected dog. I had ten days of Raven on a leash which was eye-opening amazing to me. We reached a point where we both agreed more training was needed, so I signed-up. When it became necessary, she would spend more time going over lessons and to re-connect my understanding to enable a positive result. This additional training proved us right as Raven responded in positive and amazing ways. I know I must continue training her because if I don't she will revert to the way she was when I rescued her. I am planning an obstacle course in my yard to help her (and my Husky rescue) release some excess energy along with continuing training I've learned in almost three months. There were times when my frustration was astronomical as training a partly feral dog along with my own personality to my reaction of being upset. If you need help with your beloved pup for any reasons (behavioral training, puppy basic foundations, pet sitting, boarding, etc.) there is no need to look any further. Ashley is passionate and dedicated to her craft. She will treat your dog as if he/she were her own and is excellent with communication both with the owners and the dogs. My dog, Leia, had severe reactivity issues to the point where it was impossible to simply walk her down a street. We were completely dejected and believed Leia was at a point of no return. We put our miniature schnauzer in the program due to aggression issues. He's bit people, ran at the door, didn't walk properly, had some rough time meeting new people. We got our two pups during COVID so they had very little interactions during the crucial puppy time, and the fact we had two males was an issue in itself. We put our pup Coal in for these issues, Ashley recommended the 3 week program and we signed him up urgently. I'll be honest, when she mentioned being a balanced trainer I was thankful because we had tried other gentle training methods and he just was not responding to those. She mentioned the use of an e-collar, which we were hesitant at first about but she explained it all and showed us how to use them properly. After his 3 weeks there, he has improved so much! He's like a different dog and she made us feel empowered and comfortable in handling situations better with him. She showed us how to use the e-collar properly to get him to re-focus on tasks and it has been a lifesaver. He still needs reminding quite often but the e-collar is the best tool we've been given and it's not only helped us, him as well in being able to introduce him to more environments.
