Munoz Landscaping did a great job cleaning up our yard (leaves and twigs), trimming our bushes and mowing the lawn. They showed up on time and completed the work in a timely manner. They also recommended the trimming of a large tree in the front yard which might cause a future hazard to the house. I would highly recommend Munoz for your landscaping needs. read more

When we started with them, it was okay. Slowly, there was no communication between the manager and the workers. We had to monitor the smallest details and keep asking to fix the problems. The manager and the owner would not pick our calls during the day, and work was just delayed by months. Even after that, the finished work is shoddy at best. Run, don't walk, away from this contractor. I hired a landscape designer, who gave Muñoz as one of her recommendations. The other contractors were booked too far out to do the project in time for an event I planned. A. Muñoz said that he could get the job done in time, and at a much lower cost. I was suspicious of the fact that he was so out of line with the other contractors, but he said he keeps cost down by having clients buy materials direct from the supplier. I asked the landscape designer if there was anything wrong with this guy and she said he was good, he just doesn't pad the price like others do. So I decided to to with A. Muñoz. First, he took so long to do the work that it wasn't completed by the stated deadline, which was why I gave him the contact in the first place. Then, before the job was done, I watched one of the retaining walls collapse. Fortunately, since the job wasn't completed, they had to rebuild it. They also modified the layout of design, after starting the project, because they said they couldn't do something they knew was in the original design. On top of all that, they killed two trees and cut my main coaxial cable. And now, a couple years later, pavers are separating with huge cracks and walls are leaning. And Antonio Muñoz will not respond to voicemail. This is literally the worst contractor I've ever dealt with, and it's been a frustrating lesson learned. These guys were hired by a house flipper to re-landscape the property next door. Watched these guys take down a tree - and almost my side fence - when they didn't properly plan removal or request access to my side alley. (Which I wouldn't have had a problem with - I'd have preferred that over watching them almost take down the shared wood fence with a giant branch they wrestled with - or me having to clean up the mess they left in my alley). Watched them park a trailer in the corner of the yard they were landscaping (and partially mine) and leave a mud hole in the corner of my yard when they took the trailer out. Trailer sat there for almost a week, a real eyesore. On four separate occasions I personally witnessed them piling tools and/or irrigation equipment in my yard - and bringing materials through my yard (see below). After the second time, I spoke to a worker onsite and very kindly asked them to be more considerate and respectful of the property line - while I watched them pick their shovels and other tools up off my property. The guy I spoke to spoke English and said he would let his guys know. A few days later, I again saw a pile of tools, shovels and potted containers in my yard. (BTW, there was no reason for them to pile tools in my yard since there was a wide sidewalk they could have also placed the tools on.) They moved the tools only when I got out of my car in the driveway and stared down the worker (same guy who was present when I spoke to his co-worker a few days before). As he picked up the tools and moved them out of my yard he didn't acknowledge me, or even bother to say sorry. Since the home being flipped (at the time) was vacant, the landscapers also didn't seem to care about the trash or other stuff they left in the yard at the end of the workday. Guys left debris in the landscaped yard over the Christmas and New Year's holiday (almost a week I and my holiday visitors had to look at the mess - and when visitors commented about it, I brought up the above details). Multiple times, I had to clean up debris (yard trash like branches or removed sod, and food wrappers, etc.) that found its way into in my yard after they finished for the day. To be fair, I never saw anyone throw trash into my yard, but they didn't clean up trash in the yard they were landscaping after they finished or have any courtesy to remove branches and other debris that fell into my yard after they finished. One day, I come home for lunch to see them pushing a wheelbarrow full of dirt through my front yard (so they don't take the wheelbarrow over the newly laid sod) to get to the backyard of the property they're landscaping. And we're not talking about them encroaching my property line by a foot or two, they came around an orange tree - almost into the middle of my front yard - at least eight feet or more away from the property line. I went inside to use the bathroom and came back out to say something to them - to see that same blue wheelbarrow, now laying on the ground, IN MY FRONT YARD. I yelled at the two workers in the yard (same guys who have been here throughout the job) that they needed to get their wheelbarrow and tools out of my yard NOW, and I would be contacting the owner of their company. Yes, after having multiple conversations with these guys, being as nice as you could, you too, would have been incredibly upset. They damaged my yard and disrespected my property and when I confronted the workers about it, their response was sheepish acceptance: They were in the wrong, but acted like "whatever." Bottom line, this was my biggest issue. The work crew did not show any respect for my yard or the property line - even after multiple notices. I was going to write this experience off as people behaving badly, but the wheelbarrow incident took me over the edge. If the work crew had not blatantly ignored me for their convenience, you wouldn't be reading this. I contacted the business owner, Antonio (who was never onsite when the work was being done), to bring these issues to his attention and to find out what he was going to do about fixing the places in my yard his crew damaged. I left a message, he contacted me back the following day. We met at my property a few days later. I walked Antonio through the issues I had. Antonio apologized and was professional and nice about making it right. We agreed to a make good and a few days later one of his guys came by to perform the work we agreed on - they did what I requested to right their wrongs. Update: One of the make goods was to plant new grass - which turned out to be crabgrass. read more

I met with Antonio nearly two weeks ago, and he looked at several landscaping projects in my backyard (replace fencing, replace grass, remove a small tree and replace, build some planter boxes, etc.). Antonio was on time, and we had a good visit. He said he would send me a quote the next day!! He asked me to email him so he could send me a quote.... I emailed him right away! But it's been about two weeks now, and nothing. After about the first 3 days I started calling his cell phone, and he didn't answer. Another few days later I called the office, and they said he was in the field and they would have him call me when he came back in. Still no word after two weeks. If he didn't want to work for me, he could have just said that right away.... But to leave me hanging for this long... There's no excuse for that. read more

This company was hired by the HOA association where I live to do a landscape project renovation. As they started to do my house, I saw one of the workers peeing on my property instead of using porta potties (that they claim it is installed somewhere). They were also using my private water to do their work as opposed to use the condominium's water. The person responsible for the job wasn't around and the day after could only say "I'm sorry". I needed a new redwood deck designed and built. Alberto and his crew came highly recommended by my landscape designer, who I trust quite a bit. When Alberto showed up he swiftly went through my options, quietly making recommendations to improve my ideas, with choices that often decreased the overall price. He fully designed the deck and as I watched its construction I was impressed by the high level of craftsmanship and attention to safety issues, as well as the speed with which the work was performed. I hired A. Munoz to install pavers, drainage, irrigation and sod in the backyard of my new home. The price quote was very competitive, I had been able to see their craftsmanship in other properties in our community, and found Antonio to be very professional. The crew that did the installation was very efficient, friendly and did high quality work. My backyard looks great and will (and have) recommended them to other homeowners in our community. My only knock, dropping my score from a 5 to a 4, was that I had a leak under the pavers that was percolating through the pavers, at one of the spigots where you would connect a hose. I had to follow up on multiple occasions, over email and phone, over the course of several weeks, before I heard back from someone. In the end, the crew that came out was just as good as the original; they fixed the leak, and reinstalled the pavers so that you would never know there was an issue. In the end, Antonio resolved the situation and I would definitely use them again in the future. read more

We hired Antonio to do our backyard. Our overall experience with him is very disappointing. It was exceedingly difficult to schedule anything. We had to call numerous times to follow up with Antonio to get things scheduled. During the entire 6+ months, Antonio nor his employees called us to proactively schedule work. Also, we were advised that our project would take 6-8 weeks but it actually took over 6 months which is a huge discrepancy. His price is very competitive and this is one of the reasons why we chose to hire him. Although our project turned out decent, it was extremely stressful to complete it. He gave us some valuable advice and assured us that he was going to do what he could to help us develop the perfect plan for our back yard. He gave us very reasonable estimates, and he sent out one of his designers to help us create the best patio/landscaping plan. He even added some extra features while keeping within our budget. They were right on time for starting the project. Antonio did the final inspection himself and made sure everything was exactly how we wanted it. He made sure all the work was high quality. Echoing other reviews, communication is extremely poor and projects take longer than projected. Showed up late to scheduled appointment to review plans. Workmanship is good, backyard pavers, sod and irrigation system were built as planned; they did replace my sod once because it dried up the first time. Quotes much lower than other contractors but the pain and frustration to schedule work is not worth it. What really triggered this review was what happened a couple months ago in July. Despite my past experience, I decided to try them again because their price is hard to beat (I obtained multiple quotes from other contractors). This time, it was a smaller job, which was to replace my backyard sod and to polish and seal my backyard pavers. This was right before the 4th of July but I was told they could start on the 6th. So it was the 5th of July and I had not heard back as to what time they would be starting the next day. I had to call and they told me it would be between 9:30am and 10am. It was 10:20am and nobody had showed up so I called to see what was going on. I was told that my project was on hold because the plan was to install my sod at the same time they installed it on a house down the street. I asked for a date of when they would do it and they told me they would call me back. Weeks went by, they would not return my calls, I left messages on the office phone and cell phone and none were returned. Then I noticed that they started to install sod on my neighbors house so I figured I would get a call soon but I never did. I called back again and my calls were never answered or returned, I was just left hanging. I would have preferred for them to turn me away and say that they could not or would not do it instead of just being ignored. read more

We did a house remodeling and expansion so needed to re-do the front and side yard afterwards. We hired Antonio's crew based on a friend's recommendation. We are not disappointed. He did a great job for our front yard; all of my neighbors told me how much they like it and wanted his phone number. He also build a great BBQ island in our backyard, and now all of our friends wants to build the same thing! His crew are very disciplined and hard working. We bought a new house, with nothing in the back but dirt and weeds. Antonio was not only the least expensive bid we got, but the most creative through a designer he referred us to - Charlene Brum. The results were excellent, workers friendly and each seemed to be an expert in what they were doing - from installing drainage, laying pavers, building a BBQ Island, building a Fire Pit, installing watering system, in short they did the complete job A to Z and on budget and timely. We hired Antonio to do a complete makeover on our driveway and front and back yard based on a recommendation from the woman who did our landscape plan and we were very pleased that we did. We had him install pavers on our driveway, artificial turf for part of front yard and in back yard, a fence with gorgeous 6' double gate and trellis,new front steps with lighting on the risers, irrigation upgrades and plantings so we could qualify for the water conservation rebate. He worked with us to stay in budget and helped us with equipment that met requirements for the rebate. His staff was very hardworking and always pleasant. Neighbors commented on how we were sure getting our money's worth as they watched them work during the day, including Saturdays. I would recommend A. Munoz Landscaping without reservation for a wide variety of landscape projects. His prices were competitive or better than all our other bids and he was happy to have me work directly with vendors to pick out exactly what I wanted (rocks, boulders, turf, pavers). I hired landscape designer Kim Leichner to design my backyard. I did not know any contractors, and she gave me a list of about four or five. I bid out the job, and Antonio was not only the lowest bid, he also seemed to be the most knowledgeable. So I chose him and his team. I am so happy I did. He was a joy to work with; his men are very skilled, polite, work VERY hard (even on the very hot days, when I didn't know how they did it). They came virtually every day, even though I know I was not the only job they were working on. Antonio and his guys did everything from demo, grading and irrigation to pouring the concrete base for my patio, to installing beautiful flagstone patio (plus walkways), to buying the plants my landscaper prescribed and installing them exactly to plan, to installing the wiring for the outdoor lighting. I had a difficult time finding the trees I wanted, but when -- three weeks after Antonio's guys finished -- they finally arrived, his guys came right back out and planted them immediately. In short, this was the most low-stress, high impact remodeling project I've ever been involved with.
