Beware! Not a friendly dog groomer. Dropped off our Cavapoo to have shampooed and groomed. They called 2 hours later to tell us they needed to charge $50 for comb out and that we were inhumane the way she was matted. This was a huge insult as we are animal lovers and love our dogs. They also said they needed to model her! She is a 7 lb dog who is groomed often. We told them not to continue and we would come pick up our dog. They charged us $70 for a shampoo and comb!!!! read more

At the recommendation of another PWD owner I took my dog to A Paw Spa several times for grooming hoping it would get better. I live 45 minutes away in Lowry, and took my 7 year old PWD who is a wavy in a lion clip on time for her appointment. Their software system is set up to send a text 10 minutes before needing to pick up your dog. I explained that I needed more lead time. Since I couldn't get an appointment on a Saturday for some reason and needed to get back to work. When I couldn't be there within 10 minutes, I was scolded by the owner and told that I needed to tell them every time I dropped my dog off. The second time I did just that and again was given 10 minutes. The grooming was ok, but nothing special and not what I was used to from my previous groomer who moved out of state. My dog came from a breeder who was also a groomer and she is wonderful on a grooming table. Please be aware that the person checking your dog in may or may not relate what you say to the actual groomer and it is an assembly line kind of place. There are brushers and bathers and then a groomer. My dog did not have her ears groomed properly for the breed and I noticed that when bathed here she was constantly chewing on herself and didn't do that when I bathed her between groomings. I asked if they would use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner and something without the strong smell that affected my allergies. I offered to bring in shampoo and was told they did use a moisturizing shampoo. Again this was not my experience. The third visit was the straw that did it for me. I wrote down the 45 minute lead time and a request to trim her ears to the leather and left it with the check in person. Later during my busy work day the groomer called me to tell me that she wasn't going to trim her ears as I requested as it wasn't proper. I didn't want to argue with her and told her to do whatever she wanted I had a client on hold. She asked me what I wanted and I told her that I asked for what I wanted, but wasn't going to argue over what was correct for the breed. Again I was only given 10 minutes to drive 45 minutes. After the horrible treatment by the owner who is the mother of the groomer, I knew I was finished. I paid and left. I didn't tip as I could see my dog had not been brushed out and was not scissored well I came home and cleaned up her privates where a big chunk of long hair was left and around her neck where it was uneven. I appreciate that other owners of Portuguese Water Dogs might not care what their dogs look like or how poorly they are treated by the owner of a business, but if you have a Water Dog do not be surprised if your experience is similar to mine. read more

Idk what happened with Haley G's aussie in the comments below but I also have a mini Aussie and they have really accomodated to her needs. They have never shaved my dog and I love how soft and nice smelling she is when I get her. My Aussie has her little "butt curtains" trimmed up and they keep them fluffy and natural looking, but with a little hygiene path. My dog is just naturally very spooky and nervous and I have never had her come back acting funny or more shy than normal. I also have a corgi/border collie I also take there and they have taken good care of him to keep his corgi butt fluff extra fluffy lol. My parents also use these guys for kitty who has a bad habit of getting matted on her back from rolling around. They always lightly shave her and it always looks nice. The moisturizing coat option has tremendously helped her dry skin and dander. We have used them for about 6 years now and never an issue. read more

After reading through the comments and not seeing one response from the establishment, it is easy to see not just based of our experience, they do not care. My wife took our two dogs in to get groomed today after being bumped earlier this week. Clearly they overbooked themselves, because after being given a 5 hour quote time, our dogs had only received a bath. We were on a time crunch and could not wait the additional 1-1.5 hour new quote. They still charged my wife $116 for 2 baths! When my wife said take us off your list we will not be coming here any longer, an older lady we assume is the owner just waived her off. $116 for two baths is completely unacceptable, and not how business should be conducted. You do not penalize a customer for your own incompetence. I hope you publicly respond, because I would love to hear your justification for the trash customer service, or lack of business ethic you provide. read more

Couldn't be more disappointed in the services from this place, one star is giving them so much more credit than they deserve. Only book an appointment here if you hate your pets and don't care if they look like your six year old nephew did the hair cut with a hedge trimmer in the dark. Usually the standard is "the customer is always right" especially in situations where you are being paid to do something I specifically ask for, on a member of my family. Imagine dropping your kid off to get a small TRIM and they shave him completely bald, and still demand you pay or you can't have him back? Absolutely insane. Super sad! My friend just took his Labradoodle to get a trim and they completely buzzed him down to his skin. Reopening one of wounds on his head, which is very irritating for him. They held his dog hostage after he said he wasn't going to pay because they completely buzzed him to the skin. I normally give businesses the benefit of the doubt, but this service brought me to tears. This was my 3rd time taking Scotch to a paw spa, in this request I asked for his butt fluff to be trimmed shorter key word trimmed. I guess all the owners daughter took from the conversation was short, and shaved off my poor babies top coat. YOU NEVER SHAVE A DOG WITH A DOUBLE COAT. He's already a very miserable pup in the heat, and now without his top coat this could truly cause harm. The owner tried to tell me they didn't shave him, maybe they didn't shave him to his skin, but nonetheless his fur was shaved. Icing on the cake the shave job was absolutely hideous. Completely choppy and uneven it's shameful. I love my dog regardless of his appearance but this company could potentially ruin my dogs coat, which is not okay. He had extremely full soft and lush coat that is all gone. I never been more disappointed in my life. I hope they never make this horrible choice again on another. read more

I would love to be able to review services, had any been rendered. I called A Paw Spa to ask if they took walk-ins for nail trimming. The tone of the lady who answered the phone was a little snobby. She told me that they do take walk-ins, but charge more for them, and she rudely informed me that since I was calling, I wasn't a walk in. **Inner thought: oh yeah, the best way to earn business is by making a potential long term customer feel stupid (sarcasm).** She then asked if I was coming soon, I told her we had to run home to get the dog and we'd be over. We talked a little more about my dog and how she hasn't had her nails trimmed in a long time, but should be just fine. At no point did I tell her that my dog was "difficult" or in any way aggressive. She did NOT take my name or any of my information, which would imply that I was making an appointment, and therefore confirming that I was not a walk-in, but an appointment. It took us about 40 minutes to get there, and when we walked in 2 women were standing near the desk as if they were leaving, and one lady sat behind the desk looking like she was ready to help. One of the leaving women-whom I can only assume was Rina, the owner, asked if I was "the girl who called an hour ago about nail trimming". I told her I was and she proceeded to tell me that she sent the girl who trims difficult dogs home. She said she kept her there for over 30 minutes after her shift ended because they were "waiting on me." At no point during the phone call I made did Rina inform me that she only had ONE groomer that could trim nails on difficult dogs, nor that she was leaving soon. Still standing in the entryway, I told her that I never said my dog was difficult, and she wanted to argue with me and put words in my mouth. She was trying to tell me that I did absolutely say that my dog was difficult. Even if I did say that, she would have had every opportunity on the phone to tell me that her special groomer was leaving soon. She took it upon HERSELF to keep her employee there late. She did NOT make me an appointment, so I hold no fault in the poor lady staying later than she had to. Rina told me that they couldn't help me. She wouldn't even let someone take my dog back to TRY trimming her nails. I told her I would go somewhere else. I did not receive any services from this establishment and I'm glad I left, because if she was treating ME this way, I can not imagine how she would have treated my dog. I was a potential long term customer, with cash in hand, and I tip well. I was happy to spend potentially even MORE money there while I waited, but she didn't even give me the chance. She acted like she was doing me a favor by offering services- for PROFIT. I will continue to take my money elsewhere, and I will continue to discourage people from going to this place. read more

I took a dog to Rina to be groomed for over a decade. I first met her when she was working at a shop by C470 and Ken Caryl maybe? It has been so long I cannot remember for sure. She opened this shop on Platte Canyon some time after I met her. Rina did an excellent job all those years. Never had a single problem. Not one. My dog always smelt wonderful and looked so handsome when she was done with him. I also really loved the bandanas they tied around their necks when they were done with the groom. A special touch! Do not hesitate to allow her to take care of your fur baby/babies. Rina is a little more expensive than some but she is worth every dime. As an added thought call ahead around the holidays - Thanksgiving and Christmas because she books up really fast. read more

Our MaineCoon cat Jack is becoming a 4 time a year visitor at PawSpa. He acts like a kitten when he gets home with his Lion cut. I love that they take such good care of cats and use no sedatives. This place is amazing! I recommend them to all fluffy furries in need of great grooming. read more

Rina is a really experienced groomer who always takes her time to make pets look and feel as good as possible. She has special skills in being able to work with uneasy or difficult pets. I know personally that she keeps her shop and employees to extremely high standards, much higher than most other grooming shops. I have known her for years and she has groomed my cat, as well as my mother-in-laws dog and my friends dogs regularly, and all the pets (even the cat!) came home happy and feeling good. She and her staff are always up front about each pet's behavior and what they were able or not able to do. I know many of her regular customers and have only ever heard glowing reviews about her and her business from them! She's a great groomer to trust with your pet, especially if you're looking for a regular groomer. read more

If you don't have a perfect pet, don't enter through those doors. The location is near my house, so I thought I would take my, then 18 year old, 15lb mutt in to have her nails cut. The owner came out with an attitude saying I didn't make an appointment so she wouldn't take her for a quick nail cut. I told her I was sorry for stopping in with out an appointment, I was new to the area. She then changed her mind and took her to the back. She came back out a few minutes later and said "she sure knows what a muzzle is now". She is a brat. Lets remember, she is 18 years old. Today I called them, 12 months later to make an appointment for her nails to get cut. I was hoping our first experience was due to the owner having a bad day. It can happen to any of us. I told the girl on the phone that she is 19 and will need a muzzle (she is getting slightly delirious in her age). I brought her in and they took her to the back. 1 minute later the assistant brought her to the front of the store and said she had bit them twice while trying to put the muzzle on. I asked her if she would llet me put the muzzle on her- she said, let me ask the owner. The owner came out part way and started reprimanding me raising her voice, in front of other customers, telling me NO I cant put the muzzle on her and she already bit me twice and I need to protect my self. I told her that I let the appointment taker know this could happen (they still made the appointment. I asked her to stop yelling at me in front of everyone... AGAIN, for the 2nd time grabbed my dog and left, as to never step foot in there again. Instead of saying "I'm sorry, we tried the muzzle and we were not successful, I don't want to put her under more stress, so I don't think we are a good fit". The owner has no idea of people skills and the bond of an owner and their dog. Business must be booming for an owner to talk any customer the way she does. I will never recommend her business to anyone. All dogs are different and different events can stress them out- You would think an owner of grooming store would be most understating of this. THIS OPERATION IS A DANGER TO YOUR PET ! I am a first time and last time customer of this horrible place. I am so concerned about the treatment of my dog who was groomed at this facility last week. My husband picked my dog up and the groomer, Rina, was there waiting with my dog. She told my husband that my dog "had gone out of her way to be bad and fight Rina's every move." Rina then stated "I think your dog needs an animal whisperer to determine what her problem is." (This is a dog we're talking about. An animal. And a groomer with 35 years of alleged experience.) When I got home, the first thing I observed is that my dog's eye was injured. I immediately called A Paw Spa and Rina herself answered. I told her that my dog was returned with an injured eye and Rina said to me "well she fought me every step of the way." I told Rina I had wished that she would have just called me and stopped the process if my dog was "so bad" instead of forcing an animal through her process. She had nothing to rebut. After an immediate visit to the vet, it appears that my dog's eye has hit or stabbed with scissors. I kid you not. I am working on filing a complaint with the Department of Agriculture which I believe licenses these facilities. Please read the other reviews too. There is a second review where a consumer states that Rina has been witnessed hitting and abusing the animals she is being paid to care for. We just got our Cocker Spaniel back this afternoon and he has been bleeding due to a bad cut in his bottom area. We know that he has extreme anxiety and they actually did call us today and say that they were not able to finish his cut. Completely understand and we went to pick him up. What wasn't said was that he was cut on his bottom and has been bleeding. Got him home and he was dropping blood. When we called the owner, Rina, she seemed to be very non-concerned and stated that it did not happen there. Hard to believe that when we received a voice mail stating that they had to stop. I don't mind that they did not want to complete his haircut but not to tell us that he was hurt is a whole different story. We have been taking our Cockers there for over a year and did not have any issues until now. Had they only told us what happened, and not allowed us to find out the way we did, it would have been the "right" thing to do. But to basically deny it and tell us it must be his "diarrhea", with an added rude tone, made it more upsetting. The dog cuts and shampoos have always been very good. We never thought we would have worry about what physically happened to our dog. His bottom is cut up and still faintly bleeding, 9 hours after pickup. And we are up cleaning the blood out of our carpet. While I love the way our dogs have looked over the last year we will no longer take them there since they did not disclose his injury. That would have been the right thing to do. read more
