This is such a great family-owned restaurant. The service is super friendly and helpful for first-timers ordering. The ambiance inside feels very homey and like you're really at a community-oriented restaurant. The real star of the show is the food. We tried the Braised Pork Belly over Rice and the Basil Chicken over Rice, and both were extremely flavorful. The Braised Pork Belly was so tender it would nearly melt in my mouth, also having great flavor. The chicken was cooked perfectly with a nice bite to it and a great basil flavor that came through. I will definitely Be coming back to try more menu items and support this great local business!

In a sea of warehouses, you have this no frills eatery serving up some of the best home style Taiwanese comfort food. The five cup chicken was sticky, tender and flavorful. Definitely a great rendition. The noodles are a little too soft for my taste but my favorite has to be the dumplings which may not be 5 for a $1, but they are some of the best seasoned dumplings you'll ever have. I saw sign on the wall about past dumpling making classes. I'm no novice in terms of making dumplings but I'd sign up to find out their recipe! For drinks you can beat the $1 prepackaged Iced Milk Tea in the fridge. I always grab an extra one to bring home. The decor is a little behind the times and legal parking is really hard to find. I always end up "parking" and having to keep a close eye on my car from time to time. This part of Brooklyn is full of bumper car drivers. The sweet lady that runs the place is awesome, the service is always genuine even if it might take a minute. Anytime I am in this area I always stop by.

The grandma who runs this place is very sweet! The hong shao rou was pretty decent and it's pretty affordable. Wish the noodles had a bit more flavor.

Wanted to like this spot more after seeing it all over tiktok but it was just ok - not worth going out of your way for, especially since it's kind of in the middle of nowhere. Highlights were definitely the dumplings: the bread and butter of A Pou's business. The pumpkin one was very unique and did impress me, especially after having the seasonal pumpkin baos from Vanessa's (highly do not recommend those). The beef noodle soup and basil chicken rice were homey but nothing particularly special. Basil chicken was overly sweet. We also bought a $10 tub of their homemade chili oil but even that needs more of a punch.

Came into this small shop to grab a quick bite. This establishment is known for their famous pan-fried Pot-stickers- Ordered a combo bowl of Lo-mein with Pork fried dumplings ($8). The wait for the food was fairly quick and it came out piping hot. The star of the show to me wasn't just the pot-stickers, but rather the condiment sauces accompanying these dumplings; There's a varieties of sauces to choose from at the adjoining table; from soy-vinegar to spicy chilli sauce- it made the meal taste even better. Overall, I liked the Fried dumplings

I want to support this business, but I was always hesitant to order, because I have high standards for Taiwanese food and wasn't sure if this place would live up to my expectations. I really wanted to like A-Pou's Taste--I've finally decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, it was a big disappointment from start to finish. I ordered the beef noodle soup, and the best way I can describe it is bland. The broth had zero depth or richness, and the noodles? Store-bought, through and through. I couldn't understand the hype. The beef wasn't even tender--it was dry and tough, which made the dish even harder to enjoy. I also got the braised pork over rice, this dish was better than the noodles. But man the rice wasn't done to my liking. And the vegetables that came with both dishes? Completely shriveled and unrecognizable--not only unappetizing but also very bitter. Now for the dumplings... I honestly don't even know if I can call them dumplings. They were more like taco shells awkwardly folded over filling. There were no pinches, no seals, and definitely no way to eat them without everything falling apart. The wrapper was super thick and doughy--not my thing at all. I'm sorry to say this, but these might've been the worst dumplings I've ever had. I usually try to find something redeeming about a meal, but this was just not it. If there are other places around, I would choose them over here but if I had to come back, I wouldn't get the noodles and definitely not the dumplings.

This place is amazing and cannot be beat for amazing taiwanese food on a budget. Everything tastes homey and flavorful without too much salt and you can taste the love and passion in every dish. Star of the show was the basil chicken, but the braised pork and pork chop were also both really good portions and plates for the table. Shrimp potstickers, might be best i have ever had with loads of meat and flavor in every bite. 1$ drinks, had a water and 2 different teas. The herbal one is great for a palette cleanser.

A gem in east williamsburg. We found ourselves in the area by happy accident and, despite not being hungry, knew we had to check this spot out. It really feels like you're in a grandma's home (think red decorations, chinese karaoke playing on the tv, eclectic collections of plants in every sort of container) with cooking that is comforting and familiar. My partner and I shared the braised pork, taiwanese beef noodle soup, and pork dumplings. We also treated ourselves to a drink from the $1 drink fridge (which has some very fun flavors -- we got lemon black tea and passion fruit)! The food was delicious, flavorful and piping and amazing value (nothing we ordered was over $10). Service was fast, and they take card as well. A-pou was also so sweet and gave my boyfriend extra fortune cookies for finishing every last bite of food. It's clear that this is a neighborhood treasure and there are many regulars here for the food and for the iconic a-pou. Highly recommend stopping by!

A-Pou's Taste is so perfectly named, because the restaurant truly feels like you're visiting grandma's house for a quick meal. The decor inside is like a typical Asian grandma's house - true maximalism. It's a bit of a hole in the wall, but it seems to be popular with the locals. My fiance and I stopped by before a concert at the Brooklyn Steel (~10 min walk), and this was exactly what we needed on a cold rainy day. We ordered two beef noodle soups and the potstickers. I really wanted to love this more than I did but unfortunately this really was just a good noodle soup, not an exceptional noodle soup. Don't get me wrong, this is still definitely one of the better ones I've had - the broth had depth, noodle portions were generous, and the beef was tender. The dumplings were good - we ordered 5 pieces, but in true grandma fashion, we received 7! What made the dining experience better was A-Pou herself. She wandered around the restaurant making small talk and handing out fortune cookies while we were waiting. So sweet! The $1 drink fridge was a highlight, and most items on the menu are super reasonably priced.

Been here twice and the food is really good for the price. Sweet old ladies run the place and they really make you feel at home. In my 2nd visit, I got the beef noodle soup, the beef with egg over rice and the potstickers. Unfortunately, the potstickers weren't pan-seared enough so it didn't have that crispy skin. But other than that, everything was fantastic! You can tell that the granny is well loved as evident by the random pics and postcards/notes on the walls.

A top tier hole in the wall spot for affordable Taiwanese food. Do the owner a favor and bring cash to pay! The owner is such a lovely person who brings a taste of Taiwan to Brooklyn. The beef noodle soup is good although the beef is a bit tough. (If you eat it via shredding the meat, it tastes less tough). The dumplings were also really tasty. The 1$ cold drinks fridge has great cold milk tea reminiscent of those I've had in Taiwan. I love this spot and totally recommend you check it out! It also seems popular with the workers around the neighborhood - affordable authentic food in East williamsburg, what else could you ask for!

I had had this place on my to-go list for a long time, but never managed to be in this area. As soon as I saw the old lady behind the counter I smiled, nothing like a Taiwanese grandma to make delicious food. I saw the things people were eating and decided to go with the classic beef noodle soup and potstickers. They have an amazing veggie potsticker with all sorts of veggies inside, they must have been some of the best ones I have had around town. They also have butterfly pea tea!!! Delishhhh!!! A family of 3 came in and said hi to A-Pou, and their interaction made my afternoon.

+1 star for the sweetest workers!! And love the casual ambiance. Big fan of the Taiwanese braised pork. Tender and juicy and a good amount of fatty. The beef noodle soup and kimchi potstickers to me were okay but not standouts. Will come back and try the crispy chicken!

The actual area itself is quite cute, and I like the way the interior was decorated. It has a very minimal vibe, but it really suits the place and the neighborhood. We got an Iced Americano, a Mortadella Scallion Pancake Sandwich, and a cocktail called Lovers Quarrel. The drinks were honestly pretty good and very much needed for the weather. The cocktail had this airy tart taste that perfectly matched the vibe of the drink. The sandwich itself was good, however it was extremely oily. The actual taste of the sandwich reminded me a lot more of Indian Omelets than Scallion Pancakes, but regardless, was still tasty, just wish it had less oil. They typically bring the drinks and food over to your table if you decide to sit at a table, which makes it a lot more convenient. The people working there were also doing an amazing job, so kudos to them. Overall not bad, maybe I might come back when it's cooler for the dessert items.

We walked into a space with an energetic atmosphere, an open kitchen, bar seating, and a menu designed for sharing, the kind of place that feels best experienced with a group. The room had a vibrant, social energy with a steady buzz of conversation and the clatter of plates, and the layout encouraged ordering multiple dishes to pass around the table. While the space could get loud and busy during peak dinner hours, the lively environment fit the restaurant's casual and social style. The menu highlights a mix of Taiwanese classics alongside more playful creations. We ordered a few dishes and found the beef noodle soup standing out with a rich, flavorful broth, tender beef, and chewy noodles that made it one of the most satisfying items on the menu. The popcorn chicken was another signature dish, served hot and crispy with plenty of seasoning, making it an easy choice to share at the table. Cold sesame noodles, braised pork rice, and the shrimp floss lettuce cups were also worth considering if we were looking to try a variety of flavors, each arriving well composed and thoughtfully seasoned. Dessert was one of the more memorable parts of the meal. The fried tang yuan served with ice cream offered a creative twist on the traditional Taiwanese rice dumpling, combining a crispy exterior with a chewy center and cold, creamy ice cream. It was one of the more unique desserts on the menu and made a great way to end the meal. The service was friendly and knowledgeable, and the staff were happy to make recommendations if we were unfamiliar with Taiwanese cuisine. Because Wenwen has become a popular destination, reservations are highly recommended, and walk-in waits can easily reach 30 to 60 minutes during busy evenings. The team moved through the room with efficiency, and the pacing of the meal kept the flow steady without feeling rushed. Overall, Wenwen offers a fresh take on Taiwanese cuisine while staying rooted in many classic flavors. The combination of well-executed comfort food, creative desserts, and an energetic atmosphere makes it a great choice whether we were already familiar with Taiwanese food or trying it for the first time.
