I've found working with them to plan a move very easy, even one time when things changed at the last minute they were very helpful and responsive. I highly recommend A-Rays!!! I used them to move in Novemeber 2022 and when I found myself moving again in December 2023 I had no hesitation to call them again. Both times they were absolutely phenomenal. These guys are friendly and nice (I'm a woman and I live alone...it's important to me that they aren't creepy), super easy to communicate with, clearly taking great care to get everything into the new place safely. I just moved into a VERY old building and I was so scared that the narrow stairways would be impossible, but they took one look at it and were like 'no problem!' I have worked with Alex and A-Ray's Moving Solutions for three moves now, and I have been impressed with their consistency, efficiency, and overall value of their work. Let me start off by saying Alex is a great and prompt communicator, he is quick to respond and is pretty flexible with scheduling. I bring this up because of all the times we've moved with A-Ray's, two of them we have been able to book pretty far out ahead, but once we had a situation where we literally had three days to move -- and Alex made it work! We couldn't have done that move without A-Ray's! Scheduling and communication aside, we are always impressed with the movers - they are friendly and efficient, and take good care of our items. They wrap fragile and delicate items, and are careful but fast moving everything! I have seen the A-Ray's team handle moving things up and down flights of stairs, through weirdly shaped hallways, narrow doors, you name it - they did it all with gusto and poise. While their prices have increased over the years we've worked with them, I also chock that up to inflation and the fact that we had to work with three movers more recently and initially worked with only two -- that's OK! The value still stands. I have recommended A-Ray's to everyone I know who's moving, and obviously have continued working with them myself. Disappointing experience with A-Ray's. We were referred by our Redfin agent & hoping to support a local small business. Alex did a walk-through and said an estimate would be sent within a couple days, which didn't happen. I reached out via call, email, and text and didn't hear back for several more days. A text was finally sent without a quote that he couldn't accommodate our target schedule. I hired A-Ray's to do a one bedroom/one bathroom move from Fremont to Cap Hill because I was referred to them by a friend who raved about these guys. I've used movers two previous times before (one company move 3000 miles and one from Wallingford to Fremont) and I wouldn't say they're bad but I felt like they left much more to be desired. Very nice and friendly guys who packed the truck up very very quickly. Once we arrived to my new apartment, they wouldn't pack up the entire freight elevator and move items up quicker. They took 4-5 loads up when it could have take 2-3 full elevator loads. It took them over 2 hours to get all my stuff into my new apartment WITH the help of myself and a friend. They charged me for 3 hours and 45 minutes though I did not think it was fair. Not only that but they didn't ask me where I wanted anything and so I had to completely rearrange things after they left. One guy offered to help me arrange but there was barely walking room (looked like an episode of Hoarders) and I wanted them to get out ASAP. On top of that, I noticed that all my black furniture has scratch marks ALL OVER them...probably from the hand cart they were using. As a moving company, I would think they would've laid down a blanket or something. Did they get all my stuff into my apartment? Yes. Were there furniture casualties and unsatisfied expectations? This review is woefully overdue... these guys moved me back in August '13 and it was the best experience I could have imagined. I've used "pros", friends, the guys who look for work outside of Home Depot, and it has always been a pain, uncomfortable, not worth the money, and usually I end up with broken items. A-Rays is the exact opposite of every bad experience I've ever had. They loaded up my 1x1 apartment safely and securely, and were amazing when hoisting a large couch down from my first-floor balcony (pics of the guys in the photo gallery!). They unloaded the truck and got everything up a flight of stairs in record time. They were personable, friendly, efficient, and all around wonderful. We moved from Georgetown to West Seattle and called these guys a few weeks in advance to set everything up. The quote was straightforward and quite a bit less than other companies plus no surprises at the end. A week before moving day, I called to request a stop at a storage unit on the way to the new house and it was accommodated graciously. Alex and his team showed up right on time. Alex was quick to respond to my inquiry about moving our stuff from Ballard to Kenmore and scheduled me at my preferred date. They showed up promptly on time and were lightning fast with putting all of my items into their large 20 foot truck, yet gentle enough to not damage anything as they wrapped all the items in plastic wrap or blankets. Once they loaded up, they were at my new home within 45 minutes and the unloading portion was also lightning fast. If there's one universal rule in life it's that moving can suck balls. Luckily there's moving company like A-Ray's that can help... moving that is. I used 3 moving companies in less than 3 years and Alex was by far the best. Since my first email to Alex he was super responsive. We must have traded 15 emails regarding my illogical paranoia about moving. He made sure to work out the logistics to ensure moving truck could move through the tight corners of the crack infested alleys in my new neighborhood. They were extremely professional. They showed up on time and started moving right away. They took a lot of care to ensure that my furniture wasn't damaged. They even helped me move some heavy furniture up to a loft space that I didn't think was physically possible. I was sure that they were going to get killed to move some 100lb outdated dresser that not even Pee Wee Herman would decorate his Playhouse with, but they did it safely and fast. Their rate was $105 for three movers and a truck with a fuel surcharge. The one thing I learned is that the rates don't typically matter as much as how efficient a moving company is with moving. They were able to move me across town in less time than it took another moving company to move me two blocks down the street. So this move cost me less than my previous move though it was a much longer distance. I can confidently say that A-Ray's the best moving company in town! read more

When my boyfriend and I found a new apartment to move into together, he was actually still in Turkey. Knowing that all 5'3", 115 pounds of me was going to be pretty worthless moving couches and bed frames and bookshelves, he volunteered to help pay for movers in his absence. I checked Yelp for reviews and collected estimates from all the more recognized local options; Alex responded the fastest AND had the best hourly rate with no fuel surcharge (in addition to coming highly recommended by people I know.) I didn't hesitate to book him for our move. From the get-go he was polite and friendly, always responding promptly to my calls and emails as the logistics changed. On move day he even arrived a little early. Not once did he bitch about the pain in the ass it must have been to load from a 3rd floor walk up apartment and unload to the unfortunately placed loading dock of my new digs, AND he did it in the estimated time. 2.5 stars. I thought I had a really good experience. Alex had an opening for my last minute move the day after I called and was very friendly. Kevin and Daniel were both funny, fast and efficient movers. The previous job ran late and they showed up about 3 hours later than their appointed time, but they did call to let me know beforehand. The pricing is hourly and very reasonable for people like me with about a studio size apartment amount of stuff. But... I should have checked up on their work. After they left I noticed that my mattress had a small rip in it as though something got snagged on the cloth and opened up a one inch wound that leaked stuffing. I left the old apartment before they did. I just got back to the old apartment from work to continue cleaning after the move they performed yesterday and I found they left 3 of my items in the elevator. A bag of my Bluray discs, a personal family item and a bag of blankets. I don't often use the elevator so they'd been sitting there for 24 hours. Overall a solid moving choice as long as you make sure you take inventory and check for damages once they finish. It will not be a white glove experience that wear booties or use floor / door / wall protection against bumps, scrapes or dirt. I guess the lesson is you get what you pay for. read more

First and foremost, their prices are hard to beat. They charge a flat hourly rate regardless of how much stuff you're actually moving (I had two movers and the rate was $90/hr) and if you have your stuff organized relatively well such that it's easy to load and unload, you're not going to find a lower price. Note that they charge 0.5 hour for travel time to the move site and another 0.5 hour for time traveling from the move site. I've used them twice in the past year for two separate moves- the first from Renton to Shoreline and then the second from that original Shoreline house to a different neighborhood in Shoreline. The first time (Renton-Shoreline), the company was a little smaller and the actual owner, Alex, was one of the movers. I couldn't have been happier with this one. Everything was perfectly done in a timely manner and it made moving day as seamless and painless as possible. I'd give 6 stars for that instance. So naturally, there was a clear cut moving company winner for the Shoreline-Shoreline move. However, I think that the company has been a victim of their own success because the second experience was not quite as good. They've clearly expanded and have hired more people which I think is the primary reason for the dropoff. The owner was not there this time and it was two other guys (they wrote down their names on the final invoice, but I have long since lost that piece of paper). There were a couple weird things that rubbed me the wrong way- First, the movers would disappear for 10-15 minutes at a time when moving stuff out of the truck into the house. The first time it happened, I just chalked it up to the fact that they were getting something heavy like the mattress or the table. But that first time they each came in with just a dining room chair. Maybe 10 pounds and something that should have been grab-n-go. It happened 3 or 4 times throughout the move. Maybe breaks were supposed to be included in the hourly rate, but since I wasn't told that they were included, it upset me that they seemed to be taking them. That definitely wasn't something that happened in the Renton-Shoreline move when the owner was present. Second, I watched them take a wrong turn en route from house 1 to house 2 and then take an additional 20 minutes to get there after I arrived. The drive time between house 1 and house 2 should take about 5 minutes, so it shouldn't have taken THAT long to get there, even if you did make a couple wrong turns. I understand that people make mistakes, but my expectation is that the mistake is fixed in an expeditious manner, especially when you're charging the customer an hourly rate. Finally, the interaction/chatter between the two guys was just not that professional. I don't have kids, but if I did, I probably wouldn't have wanted them to be within earshot. Definitely some unnecessary, audible vulgarity. Because really, strangers don't need to know about the sex you had last night in such great detail. I hate moving and I hope to not have to do it again for a very long time, but I would probably still use A-Ray's again for the next move simply because the price is so good. If the movers behave in a similar, less-than-professional manner next time, it might make me reconsider. But then again, the price is just so good... read more

I originally used this business after getting a groupon back in 2012. I loved that experience! The movers were on-time and hard-working. Stuff was well-packed, carefully handled, furniture was placed where I requested, and the pace clipped right along. The subsequent experiences in 2014, though, weren't so impressive. I used them first to move my stuff into a new place, and the move took longer than it should have; I guess this is the risk you take when you pay by the hour. The following week, though, the crew was downright SLOW when we moved my boyfriend's stuff to the new place. There was no reason for it to take as long as it did; we could have easily finished 2 hours beforehand if they just kept, um, MOVING. To boot: both times upon arrival, one of the movers requested to use the bathroom. I paid for him to sit there for 30 minutes and stink up the place. The owner of our place intends to sell, so we're moving to a new place next week. I'll be using a different moving company. read more

Alex worked for another local moving company when we met him, and at the time my wife and I were impressed with his professionalism. We had several complicated demands involving a sofabed, a behemoth antique china cabinet, and boxes upon boxes of "fragile"-labeled goods. "Shouldn't be a problem," he said confidently. For ten marathon hours, Alex and his co-worker worked extremely hard to get us moved, sofabed, china cabinet and all... and with a miraculous zero damage. I've had movers in the past break things, steal things, soil carpets, scuff walls, scratch furniture... the list goes on. Alex did an amazing job that day, and we've used A-Ray's twice now since he opened his own company, and even become friends with him and his associate. They are a great and pleasant crew, careful, efficient and hard-working. I used A-Ray's for a recent move from one apartment to another. They charged by the hour, at $80/hour. In three hours they moved most of the furniture/boxes/etc from one apartment to the other. The apartments were about 3 blocks away from each other. I helped out for some of the loading and for all of the unloading. I had just recently moved to that previous apartment, so I was quite aware of how long that move should take. It took the last moving crew less than an hour to load up, and less than an hour to unpack. I didn't lift a finger in either of those cases. In that move there was more to move than in this one. So the previous movers were way, way faster. The difference here is that the previous moving company was paid by the job, while this company was paid by the hour. So it was in this crew's best interest to be slow. Which they were. In their defense, both movers were very nice and personable and were not careless or anything like that. They did perfectly fine work. They just worked slower than previous crews have worked. Also, apparently they had truck issues that day and, instead of canceling the job they rented a truck. So This saves them from the dreaded one star. Would I hire A-Ray's again? Yes, but I'd call around first for somebody who would give me a fixed price. read more

I don't normally use these review sites, but I was SO impressed with A-Rays that I wanted to make sure everyone else knew how great they are!! I have so many good things to say to say about Alex! I called A-Rays after a recommendation from my new landlord. Although I didn't give much notice of my move (one day), Alex was able to squeeze me in to a already full day of moving. Even though I know he must have been exhausted from the two moves before me, he showed up on time, cheerful and ready to go! Alex is super efficient, careful and most importantly quick! I was worried that the truck I had rented was too small (I should have just used the A-Rays truck) for what I had in my apartment, but he was able to fit everything in and had some room to spare. He definitely knows what he is doing! Aside from making my move the easiest one ever, A-Rays has great prices unlike some of the overpriced moving companies in the area! First of all, how rare is it that you are inspired to write a *good* review? For my part, I know what usually gets me yelping is some horrific experience. But A-Ray was flat-out terrific. I've hired movers a few times, and it's always been a lesser-of-several-evils situation. With a small indy mover, I wasn't expecting much, even though the reviews were all positive. How good can movers actually be? At best they just take some of the bachache out of it, perhaps exchanging it for a little heartache after they put the corner of a dresser through your favorite painting. Where was I? Oh, right: A-Ray was terrific. Alex and Johnny showed up on time and had everything they needed to do a terrific job. They took excellent care of a couple of fragile items (antique desk, ridiculously large plasma tv), and really helped us settle into the new place, which was a serious pain-in-the-butt of narrow stairs and hard-to-reach front door. They worked cheerfully, carefully, and quickly. There were no mishaps, and by the end I ran to the ATM to get them money by way of tip because honestly, they changed the way I feel about hiring movers entirely. I think most people will agree that there isn't much worse in life than moving. I hate moving so much that I'm quite sure I would rather be punched in the face repeatedly than to have to spend a day moving. That being said A-Ray's Moving Solutions made the day so much less painful than it could have been. I can't remember the name's of the movers who showed up because I'm a terrible person but they were on time, very polite and more importantly strong enough to move my horribly heavy couch. The movers worked efficiently with a sense of purpose, I didn't feel like I was being cheated for the time I was paying for. They were careful with the items they were moving, I didn't have anything scraped or damaged during the move. These guys are awesome. We'd had a really horrendous moving experience when we came to Seattle from DC. They'd forgotten our couch and when they finally got it to us (12 weeks later!!) they only sent out one guy - meaning we had to help move our sleeper sofa - up five flights of stairs because it wouldn't fit in the elevator. Welp. Our couch fit in the elevator when Alex was handling it, and it even fit through our house's 1930s hallways, up a narrow stair case into a converted attic (read - low slanted ceilings) around a 180-degree turn on top of the stair railing. They got everything done fast and professionally, and it was pouring out, so it was even more appreciated. The only thing that can make a move bearable is having a good moving company that you can trust to move you quickly, affordably, and above all...carefully! After receiving a few recommendations, I decided to go with A-Ray's for my move from Kirkland to Woodinville. Alex arranged the move with me via email and gave me an accurate and affordable quote for the move based on the information I provided. On the morning of the move, Alex called ahead to make sure everything was ready to go and to confirm the time that he would be arriving. Reasonably priced, professional, expert service. We found A-Ray's Moving Service on Yelp and hired them to move our stuff from the storage pods on the front lawn and into the house. Alex and company were very positive and professional. They even offered to move things around inside the house after the moving was done. There were a couple of heavier and/or awkward pieces and they made quick work of them. I never once felt like they weren't in control as they carried things - they used very thoughtful, deliberate movements and picked up and placed things carefully. I saw Alex's experience in the way he expertly navigated a huge bulky couch in through the front door. We had a smaller move since we just needed them for the unload, but they took care of 3 storage boxes (8'x5'x'7) in just under 2 hours. Completely worth it, easily a 5 star review. read more

My experience had both good and bad points. The company was very responsive to my calls, followed up with me and got me an appointment within a very short timeframe. The movers were on-time, and very quick. My main issue was that they caused two rather large scratches in my new home. There was a definitely sacrifice of quality for speed. At one point, one of the movers tried moving a piece by himself that really should have had two people move it, and put a large scratch on my ceiling. Just used A-Ray's service to move from a Seattle high-rise apartment to a house in Kirkland. Overall, they did well. We finished move in little above 5 hours, and everything came intact, without any damage. They were also reasonably priced. The first good thing about A-Ray's is that they actually respond to your phone calls in time. I had at least called 8 movers but only a couple of them got back, and among those A-Ray's was most prompt and was cheaper by a small margin. During the move Alex was constantly on phone (blue tooth), responding to other customer calls - I really appreciate the importance he gives to responding to calls. And, of course, since he was using blue tooth, that didn't really slow him down. On the day of move, Alex, Josh and Mark arrived right on time. They were professional, courteous and helpful. The only small gripe I have is that they underestimated de-assembling my Ikea bed, and kept it till the end. In the end, they had to spend 30 mins just de-assembling. If one of them had started earlier on it, I would have saved 20 odd minutes and hence some money. I will definitely recommend A-Ray's to my friends.. read more

So I had to get some help with my move, and I was really hesitant to do it. I looked up a couple different places on Yelp and Craigslist, and I really wanted to make sure I got a place that wasn't going to charge a ton of hidden gas fees, driving fees, set up fees and all that nonsense. I called Alex at A-Ray's, and he got back to me within a few hours. I set everything up on a Friday, and he had movers there on Monday at 9 am. Not only was he prompt, professional and reasonable...his movers were AWESOME. Joe and Thomas came to help me out, and seriously made the whole experience WAY more enjoyable. They were fun and funny, while being quick and careful. They also helped me assemble items and move them around. I could not be happier with the service, and I will definitely use them again. ****EDITOR'S NOTE: I should also add, that I offered them a beer at the end of moving, to which they responsibly declined. They arrived early and they moved us from Shoreline to South lake Union with nothing broken and smiles on their faces! Great customer service and were really respectful and careful with our belongings. They had great energy and attitudes even when there was construction that made it more difficult to move us. We wouldn't use any other moving company in Seattle. Took a little longer because of thing beyond their control but way less expensive than any other company I called and worth every penny and then some! Moving is a very stressful experience and so finding someone you can trust with the contents of your life is very important.
